Beulah E. Jones
UNADILLA — Mrs. Beulah E. Jones, 80, of 7 Bridge St., Unadilla and a longtime resident died Saturday, May 22, 1999, in The Nursing Care Facility of The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born Nov. 5, 1918, in Oneonta, the daughter of Frank Arnold and Edith (Short) Bell.

She was married to Floyd E.  Jones on Oct. 11, 1941, in Susquehanna, Pa. Mr.  Jones died Oct. 14, 1978.

Mrs.  Jones is survived by three daughters, Shirley A. Luce of Sidney, Mary E. Bunt of Unadilla and Rose M. Howard of Apalachin; three sons, Paul E.  Jones and Robert C. Jones, both of Sidney and Jeffrey L.  Jones of Unadilla; a daughter-in-law, Charlotte  Jones of Sidney; a brother, George E. Bell of Unadilla; a sister, Mary M. Miller of Sidney; also 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Georgia Lorraine Jones, three sons, Floyd Arnold Jones, George Edward  Jones and Walter Vincent Jones, and a brother, Frank M. Bell.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, May 29, 1999, in Evergreen Cemetery, Unadilla.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Gladys E. Moseman
ONEONTA — Gladys E. Moseman, 67, of Oneonta, died Sunday, May 23, 1999, unexpectedly at home.

She was born Nov. 13, 1931, in Hazelton, the daughter of Arthur and Pearl (Hendrickson) Moshier.

She married Clifford L. Moseman, who died in 1963.

Gladys was at one time employed with Green Dell Packing in Prattsville, Kass Inn in Roxbury, Williamsons Veneer Co. in Fleischmanns and also was self-employed cutting Pulp wood. She enjoyed birds, going baja riding, wrestling, family gatherings and all her grandchildren, great and otherwise. She also enjoyed all the friends she had over the years of her life.

Gladys is survived by her children, Linda Aubry of Schenevus, Laurel and Randall Curran Sr. of Davenport, Lola and Rex Curran of Westford, Shannon Moseman and fiance, Shirley Votee of East Meredith, and Len Haynes of Hartwick; a daughter-in-law, Cathy Haynes of Oneonta; her lifelong companion for more than 30 years, Leonard Haynes of Oneonta; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a special longtime friend Doris Wetmore of Oneonta; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, a daughter, Doraine L. Moseman, in 1962, two sisters, Virginia Gardner and Evelyn O'Brien, and a brother, Windell Moshier.

At her request Gladys was cremated and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 26, 1999, at the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus, with the Rev. Bonnie McGraw, pastor of the Schenevus United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Prattsville. A celebration of life will be held at the Wilber Park in Oneonta, immediately following the burial.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, May 26, 1999, from noon until service time at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Gladys to the Milford Fire Department, Milford, N.Y. 13807 or the American Lung Association of Mid-New York, 311 Turner St., Suite 415, Utica, N.Y. 13501.

Funeral arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Mildred J. Rosa
MARGARETVILLE — Mildred J. Rosa, 94, of Margaretville died Saturday, May 22, 1999, at the Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

She was born Jan. 30, 1905, in Margaretville, the daughter of William Gorsch and Grace Waterman.

She married Fred L. Rosa on Dec. 28, 1925. He died Jan. 2, 1941.

She was a licensed practical nurse at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a lifelong area resident. She was a member of the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

Mildred is survived by two sons, Fred W. Rosa of Phoenicia and Robert C. Rosa of Pensacola, Fla.; one daughter, Nancy Vermilyea of Orlando, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Jackie Robinson in 1997 and Midge Mead in 1973, two brothers, John and Carlton; and one sister, Gertrude.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 25, 1999, at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. Dr. George Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Shandaken Rural Cemetery.

Calling hours will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hynes Funeral Home.

Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Marjorie W. Sanford
ARKVILLE — Marjorie W. Sanford, 92, of Arkville died Friday, May 21, 1999, at Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville.

Mrs. Sanford was born April 4, 1907, in Indian Fields, the daughter of Abram and Jennie Whitbeck.

She was married on Oct. 15, 1936, to Ralph E. Sanford. At that time she was the manager of W.T. Grant Department Store in Albany. After they were married the couple moved into a new home in Arena, where her husband owned a hardware store.

Mrs. Sanford was a member of the Methodist Church and Choir. For many years she sang in church for wedding and funeral services. She was also a volunteer at the old Margaretville Hospital as a Grey Lady. Her hobbies inlcuded gardening, baking, singing and playing the organ.

Mrs. Sanford was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, in 1995.

Mrs. Sanford is survived by one son, Bruce Sanford and his wife, Patricia of Arkville; one grandson, Brian Sanford of Arkville; one granddaughter, Diana Finnerty and husband, Nevin of Arkville; and one great-grandson, Matthew Finnerty of Arkville.

Graveside services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Margaret Ostrander
SIDNEY — Margaret L. "Peg" Ostrander, 96, a resident of the Gilmour Health Care Facility, Norwich, and formerly of 72 West Main St., Sidney, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, May 23, 1999, at her home in Norwich.

She was born June 2, 1902, in Sidney. Margaret was the daughter of the late John and Anna Jeanette Neidlinger Lawall.

On March 29, 1925, she married Milford W. Ostrander in the First Congregational Church, Sidney. He predeceased her April 25, 1944.

Mrs. Ostrander was the oldest living member of the First Congregational Church, Sidney. She was also a member of the Sidney Chapter No. 255, O.E.S. and the American Red Cross of Sidney. She was a former member of the Sidney Fire Department Auxiliary.

Peg was an avid bridge player in the Tri-Town Area.

Peg is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Milford L. and Kathryn Ostrander of Sidney; three grandchildren, George Ostrander of West Edmeston, Margaret DeCocker of Oneonta and John Ostrander of Sidney; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 1999, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Roanne MacEwan, pastor of the Sidney First Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Friends are invited to call from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral chapel with the family in attendance. The Sidney Chapter of Eastern Star will conduct memorial services 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral chapel.

Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the First Congregational Church, Sidney, or to the Sidney Emergency Squad, if desired.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Mary N. Miller
ONEONTA — Mary N. Miller, 105, died May 11, 1999, at Fox Nursing Home, where she had resided for 19 years.

She was born in Minnesota on July 17, 1893, of Danish immigrant parents Soren and Jensina Nelson.

She was predeceased by her husband, Elmer; two brothers, Anton and William; and four sisters, Carrie Sharp, Anna Townsend, Edna Strong and Minnie Sponburgh; and is survived by one sister, Dorothy Sargent of Vestal, and 18 nieces and nephews, along with several great- and great-great nieces and nephews.

Though she never had children of her own, she was devoted to her many nieces and nephews and dearly loved by them. Since 1913, she has lived in the Oneonta area and was the oldest member of the Atonement Lutheran Church.

Until recent years she enjoyed crocheting and quilting for herself and others.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 27, 1999, at 2 p.m. at Atonement Lutheran Church at the corner of Center and West streets with burial following at Laurens Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Mary Miller Memorial may be made to Atonement Lutheran Church, 1 Center St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

John L. Burnett
CONCORD, N.C. — A Mass of Christian Burial for John L. (Jack) Burnett, 69, of Concord, N.C., and formerly of Cooperstown, N.Y., who died on May 7, 1999, will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, 1999, at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown with the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor, officiating. A committal service and interment, with full military honors accorded by the Clark F. Simmons American Legion Post No. 579 in Cooperstown, will follow in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Nellie Y. Trainor
FLY CREEK — Committal services and burial for Mrs. Nellie Y. Trainor, 74, of Fly Creek, who died Dec. 15, 1998, will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 28, 1999, in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Douglas Burleigh, chaplain of Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, officiating.
A graveside service will be conducted by Fly Creek Valley Grange No. 790.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Agnes M. King
STAMFORD — Agnes M. King, 90, formerly of 18 Harper St., Stamford, died Monday, May 24, 1999, at the Delaware County Countryside Care Center in Delhi.

She was born Aug. 17, 1908, in New York City, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John King. She was never married.

Agnes lived in the Stamford area for the past 20 years moving there from New York City. She loved the outdoors and especially birds.

Agnes is survived by a brother, George King of Ireland; and nieces, Mary Wilkes, Florence Roth and Grace Davis of the Sayre, Pa. area.

She was predeceased by a brother, James, and a sister, Mary.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Stamford Cemetery, Stamford.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

John T. Karwan
COLUMBIA, Md. — John (Jack) T. Karwan, 52, of Columbia, Md., died Monday morning, May 24, 1999, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Md., from complications following surgery.

He was born on July 4, 1946, in Hartford, Conn., a son of John J. and Carmella P. (Pandolfe) Karwan.

He married Pamela Grady on May 15, 1976, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cooperstown, N.Y.

Jack grew up in Hartford, Conn., where he graduated from Bulkeley High School with the Class of 1964. In 1968, he graduated from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn. From 1968 until 1974, he served in the United States Army Reserves.

Jack had been associated with Sir Walter Raleigh Inns in the  Washington metropolitan area for the past 25 years, and at the time of his death was serving as executive vice president.

He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Columbia, Md.

Jack is survived by his wife of 23 years, Pamela Grady Karwan of Columbia, Md.; a daughter, Julie A. Karwan, a student at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa.; a sister, Brenda T. Green, and her husband, Edward, of Stoughton, Mass.; a brother, Michael L. Karwan and his wife, Patricia, of Glastonbury, Conn.; a brother-in-law, Kevin M. Grady and his wife, Pati, of Cooperstown, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 1999, at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, N.Y. with the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor, and the Rev. John R. Sise, retired pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Index, N.Y.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut St., Cooperstown, N.Y. on Thursday evening, from 6 to 8 p.m., when the family will be in attendance.

Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to the Howard Hospital Foundation, Emergency Department Fund, 5755 Cedar Lane, Columbia, Md. 21044 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Association, care of The American Diabetes Association, 356 North Midler Ave., Syracuse, N.Y. 13206.
