Robert W. Lake Jr.
COOPERSTOWN — Robert W. Lake Jr, 77, of Cooperstown and formerly of River Edge, N.J., died on May 25, 1999.

Mr. Lake served his country in the Army in World War II. He graduated from Utica College of Syracuse University. He was retired from the FBI and was a member of the Leatherstocking Golf Club in Cooperstown.

He was the beloved husband of Elsie B. Lake (Campbell); loving father of James R. Lake of Closter, N.J., David R. Lake of Atlanta, Ga., and Donna B. Cort of Hampden, Maine; and cherished grandfather of seven grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Closter, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society and/or Hospice at Bergen Community Health Care, 400 Old Hook Rd., Westwood, N.J. 07675.

Lois B. Wilson
SIDNEY — Lois B. Wilson, 54, of Sidney, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 1999, at her home.
She was born April 2, 1945, to the late Melvin D. and Dorothy B. (Madison) Perry in Cherry Valley.

Lois married Donald W. Wilson on March 31, 1999, at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Sidney.

She was employed as a senior test lab technician at the Amphenol Corp., Sidney, until her retirement on Sept. 11, 1998.

Lois was a member of St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Sidney.

Lois loved her family, and many friends, and the plight of animals.

She was generous with her time and resources and was always there to help.

Lois is survived by her husband, Donald W. Wilson of Sidney; her three daughters and sons-in-law, and grandchildren, Barbara and Greg Tiska, and Cassidy and Brian of Masonville, Amy and Michael Farrell, and Matt, Adam and Erica of Unadilla, and Heather and Dan Coleman, and Kevin, Meghann, Ryan, Kaitlin and Connor of Montgomery, Ill.; two sons and daughters-in-law, and grandchildren, Craig and Brenda Wilson and Jessica of Rockport,  Texas, and Eric and Marcia Wilson and Austin, Tara, Spencer and Onilee of Bainbridge; and many special friends.

Lois was also predeceased by her grandson, David A. Tiska.

Memorial services to celebrate Lois's life will be held Saturday, June 12, 1999, at St. Lukes Lutheran Church, Sidney, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Allison Leitzel, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

At Lois's request there will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 East Main St., Sidney; the American Cancer Society, Breast Cancer Research, please call 1-800-ACS-2345; or Catskill Area Hospice Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Claude Waldron Sr.
CHICOPEE, Mass. — Claude F. Waldron Sr., 95, of Chicopee, Mass., died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at the Holyoke Hospital in Holyoke, Mass.

He was born Nov. 13, 1903, in Glens Falls, N.Y., the son of John N. and Edith L. (Kidder) Waldron.

He married Edna G. Roof on Nov. 27, 1944, in Scranton, Pa.

Mr. Waldron retired in 1968, as an electrical engineer from the American Bosch Company, where he was employed for 15 years. Before that he worked from 1937 to 1953, for the Bendix Corp. in Sidney, N.Y. Mr. Waldron was also a certified public accountant, and after his retirement he did income tax preparation.

He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of South Hadley, Mass., the Gideons International, the Kiwanis Club, and the Ma"-sons, in which he was a 32nd Degree. He was also a past president of the Association for Retarded Citizens in Columbus, Miss., and Delaware County, N.Y.

Mr. Waldron is survived by his wife, Edna R. Waldron of Chicopee, Mass.; his children and their spouses, Clifford and Wanda Waldron of Harlegin,  Texas, Claude and Marjorie Waldron Jr. of Sylvan Beach, N.Y., Elizabeth (Betty) and Donald Dixon of Sidney, N.Y., John and Frances Waldron of Las Vegas, Nev., Edith and Joseph Rando of Missouri City,  Texas, and James Waldron of Chicopee, Mass.; his stepchildren and their spouses, Genevie (Bea) and Donald Mott of Masonville, N.Y., Donald and Joan Puffer of Granby, Mass., Vivian and Larry Granger of Chicopee, Mass., and Marjorie and Clyde Tiffany of Sidney, N.Y.; 35 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother, Major Robert Waldron and his wife, Helen, of Oneonta, N.Y., and a sister-in-law, Helen G. Waldron of Unadilla, N.Y.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at 1 p.m. in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 81 Main St., Franklin, N.Y., with the Rev. Donald Bradley, pastor of the Second Baptist Church of South Hadley, Mass., officiating. Burial will follow in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin, N.Y.

Friends are invited to call on Monday, June 14, 1999, at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Association for Retarded Citizens, 8 Fair St., Walton, N.Y., or the Second Baptist Church, 529 Granby Rd., South Hadley, Mass. 01075.

Jeanette Northrup
ONEONTA — Mrs. Jeanette Mae Northrup, 84, died Thursday evening, March 18, 1999, following a recurrence of breast cancer.

Mrs. Northrup was born May 11, 1914, in Inkerman-Pittston, Pa., to Robert and Mabel (Walker) Eustice.

In 1931, she married Donald C. Northrup in Hallstead, Pa. They were married for 52 years, until his death on May 27, 1983.

She attended Oneonta schools, but left school during the depression. After her three sons were grown, she graduated from the State University College at Oneonta, completing the four-year course in three years. Mrs. Northrup taught elementary students of the Milford School District for 20 years, retiring to care for her ill husband in 1980.

Mrs. Northrup loved to golf and bowl until her disease no longer permitted her to do so. She continued to enjoy reading, music and her pets until a few days before her death.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Oneonta.

Mrs. Northrup is survived by two sons, the Rev. Dr. Ronald Northrup of Wilsonville, Ore., and Shaun Northrup of 41 Belmont Circle, Oneonta, who cared for her during her final illness. Her third son, Ralph Northrup, died in 1993. She is survived by her grandchildren, Peter Northurp and Sarah N. Stafford of Lake Oswego, Ore., David Northurp of Loisville, Ky., Diane N. Miranda of Girard, Ohio, Karin N. Paoletta of Hilton Head, S.C., Renee Northrup of Tampa, Fla., and Kevin Northrup of Oak Creek, Wis.; and seven great-grandchildren. Survivors also include her sister, Mabel Kristofik of Laurens; four brothers, Merle Eustice of Oneonta, Robert Eustice of Franklin Square, Harold Eustice of Syracuse and Willard Eustice of Henderson, Nev.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Northrup will be held 4 p.m., Monday, June 14, 1999, at First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. William Bouton, pastor of her church, officiating.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta, or the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta and Otego.

James F. Mason Jr.
GILBERTSVILLE — James Fraser Mason Jr., 78, of Gilbertsville, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 15, 1921, in Paterson, N.J., the son of James F. and Catherine Helen (Van Rensselaer) Mason.

He was first married to Dorothy Smith on May 30, 1946. She died in July 1987. He was then married to Caroline Mason in September 1988.

He resided in Gilbertsville since 1988, and was a frequent visitor to the Butternut Valley, as his mother was raised in Morris.

He served his country in the United States Navy, during World War II in North Africa.

He was a member of the American Legion Post in Gilbertsville. He had served on the Board of Education of the Haledon, N.J., School System. He was a Scoutmaster in Ridgewood, N.J., for more than five years, a member and former Vestryman of the Christ Episcopal Church of Ridgewood, N.J., and member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity of Rutgers University, of which he was a graduate. He was also a very avid golfer.

James is survived by his wife, Caroline Mason of Gilbertsville; two sons, James Mason and his wife, Margaret, of Bechtelsville, Pa., and Bruce Mason and his wife, Tuney, of Warwick; and six grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Richard Van Rensselaer Mason.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, June 13, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Christ Episcopal Church in Gilbertsville with the Rev. John Scott III officiating.

Friends who wish may donate to the Christ Episcopal Church or the American Cancer Society in his memory.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Antonette Ferguson
WESTFORD — Antonette Rita Ferguson, 75, of Westford, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at her residence with her family at her side.

She was born June 3, 1924, in Hoboken, N.J., the daughter of John and Mary (Trusso) LeoGrande.

She married Glen A. Ferguson Sr. on Jan. 19, 1946, in West New York, N.J. He died on Nov 20, 1991.

Antonette retired as a buyer from Jamesway in 1986, where she was employed for 22 years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church.

Antonette is survived by a son, Glen A. Ferguson Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Westford; a daughter, Carol A. Rumenapp of Milford; her grandchildren, Melissa and Mark Silver, Glen A. Ferguson III, Derrick and Amy Rumenapp, and Katherine Rumenapp; a sister, Nancy Chichester of Syracuse; and a brother, August Nickol of Lakeland, Fla. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony and Dominick LeoGrande, and Rose Carmeci.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 12, 1999, at noon in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial of her ashes will immediately follow in the Milford Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Adelbert L. Houck
COOPERSTOWN — Adelbert "Dub" Houck, 90, of Cooperstown, died Friday morning, June 11, 1999, at The Meadows in Cooperstown.

Mr. Houck was born March 30, 1909, at the Thansgiving Hospital in Cooperstown, the son of Willard Lee and Winifred (Aylsworth) Houck.

He married Marion E. Chase on Dec. 29, 1929, and lived on the home farm with her parents. He worked there for 41 years until her death in 1970.

Mr. Houck then moved to Milford and was employed by Bassett Hospital until he retired in 1974.

He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge at Mt. Markham, G.L.F. in West Winfield, Dairymen's League, Louisville Grange in Garrattsville and the Senior Citizens in Milford and Morris.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Karen Houck and two grandchildren, Amanda and Alison of Ballston Spa; four sisters, Elizabeth Ross of Fly Creek, De Ette Pratt of Averil Park, Edna Bliss of Toddsville and Caroline Trinkaus of Fly Creek; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Floyd Houck; a sister, Virginia Small; and a long-time friend Ethel Bennett.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 13, 1999, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta. The Rev. Mel Farmer, pastor of the River Street Baptist Church will officiate.

Burial will at the Burlington Flats Cemetery, Burlington Flats. The family will receive friends at the funeral home at 1 p.m. on Sunday until service time.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Milford Emergency Squad. Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Antonette Ferguson
WESTFORD — Antonette Rita Ferguson, 75, of Westford, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at her residence with her family at her side.

Donald W. Byington
ONEONTA — Donald Wilken Byington, 76, of Oneonta, and formerly of Downsville died June 10, 1999 unexpectedly at Fox Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 30, 1922 in Perrysburg, Ohio, the son of Harrison Arthur and Anna Louise (Wilken) Byington.

He married Marion A. Carey on April 30, 1942 in Oneonta.

Mr. Byington was a lifelong area resident, having been employed at the Downsville Central School for more than 30 years, retiring in 1986.

He and his wife moved to Oneonta in 1989.

He is survived by his wife at home; five children, Donald G. Byington of Allendale, Mich., Beverly A. Biggar of Troy, Sharon L. Devaney of Harrisburg, Pa., Timothy D. Byington of Downsville and Barbara A. Byington of Oneonta; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren

He was predeceased by a great-grandson, Brandon Reed of Downsville.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours. Those who wish may make contributions to the Brandon Reed Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Downsville Central School, Downsville, N.Y. 13755.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Jonathan DeGraw
GILBERTSVILLE — Mr. Jonathan DeGraw, 85, of Gilbertsville died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at Chenango Memorial Hospital, Norwich.

He was born April 8, 1914, in Sloatsburg, the son of James B. and Rebecca (Lewis) DeGraw.

John married the former Eileen Hogan on April 4, 1942, in the Bronx.

He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. DeGraw was a construction plumber for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 373 in Rockland County prior to his retirement. During the time he was employed by the Local 373 he served on the committee which made the rules and regulations for the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union. He worked on many large construction projects during his working years. He and his wife retired to the Gilbertsville area, where he pursued his love of farming.

John was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta.

Mr. DeGraw is survived by his wife, Eileen "Hogie" DeGraw of Gilbertsville; three daughters, Noel Waldo of Pamona, JoAnne Conklin of Suffern and Claire Raymond of North Carolina; one son, John DeGraw of Hillburn; five grandchildren, Matthew and Jonathan DeGraw of Hillburn, Kim and Michael Conklin of Pine Bush, and Ricky  Jones of North Carolina; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral prayers will be offered 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 1999, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, thence to St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta on Tuesday, June 15, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be present.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Michael D. Ferris
WORCESTER — Michael David Ferris, the infant son of David W. and Rhonda L. (Hunt) Ferris of Worcester, was born and died on Friday, June 11, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare Hospital in Cooperstown.

Michael is survived by his parents; grandparents, Ronald and Nancy Hunt of Worcester and Donald and Donna Ferris of North Blenheim; maternal great-grandmother, Grace Hunt of East Worcester; paternal great-grandparents, Robert and Lillian Wilson of North Blenheim and Nellie Ferris Thorington of Grand Gorge; four uncles, Fred and his wife, Denise Hunt, Ron and his wife, Jamie Hunt, Tom and his wife, Brenda Hunt and Bob Hunt, all of Worcester; an aunt, Heather and her husband, Stephen Fancher of Worcester; and several cousins, great-aunts and great-uncles.

A private graveside service was held Sunday, June 13, 1999, at the Maple View Cemetery in East Worcester, with the Rev. Joyce Allen, pastor of the East Worcester and Worcester United Methodist Churches, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Michael to the East Worcester United Methodist Church.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Peggy McChesney
COOPERSTOWN — Committal services and burial for Margaret Mary McChesney, 45, of Cooperstown, who died Nov. 30, 1998, will be held at noon on Thursday, June 17, 1999, in Lakewood Cemetery in Cooperstown with the Rev. John R. Roos, pastor of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, officiating.

Our heartfelt thanks. As we gather to bury our beloved Peggy, we would like to extend a very sincere thank you to the Cooperstown community for the outpouring of love and support these past two years. Knowing that so many cared and were willing to help make a difficult time easier for all of us through your prayers, cards, flowers, visits, hugs, phone calls, meals and rides for Mia and Dana has meant so much. Peggy was blessed with so many wonderful friends and we will always be grateful to you for your thoughtfulness and kindness. The families of Peggy McChesney.

Albert A. Nigro
ONEONTA — Albert A. Nigro, 83, of Oneonta, passed away Sunday evening, June 13, 1999, at the Albany Medical Center, Albany.
He was born June 25, 1915, in Glasco, town of Saugerties.

On Oct. 11, 1951, he married Elsie Langkau in Richmondville.

Albert served in the United States Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star.

Al had been in the theater business since the early 1930s. He owned Al's TV service in the 1950s. He then worked for Hartwick College as an AV tech for 25 years. He also owned the Cobleskill Drive-In, The Valley Theater in Middleburgh and currently owned the Park Theater in Cobleskill, since 1975.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church, a member of the Lions Club, past president of the Oneonta Moose Club, and also was a past president and secretary of the Motion Picture Projector IATSE No. 842.

Al enjoyed crafts and his model railroad.

Albert is survived by his loving wife, Elsie Nigro of Oneonta; three daughters, Connie Nader of Oneonta, Patricia Bookhout of Sidney Center and Kathy Stone; two sons, Daniel Nigro of Florida and Tom Nigro of East Worcester; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a sister, Rose Petromale of Glasco; many nieces and nephews in Glasco, Barbara and Richard Schulte of Cobleskill; and his faithful companion, Rambo.

Funeral and committal services will be held on Thursday, June 17, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Timothy Hoyer officiating. Albert will be cremated at the Hillington Crematory, Morris.

The family will be present at the funeral home on Thursday, from 10 a.m. until service time for those who wish may call.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to either the American Heart Association, Heart Gifts Processing Center, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, N.Y. 13220-3049 or to the American Diabetes Association, 356 North Midler Ave., Syracuse, N.Y. 13206 in loving memory of Albert A. Nigro.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.
