Douglas Dickinson
COLONIE — Douglas A. Dickinson, 54, of Hunting Road, died suddenly Tuesday at Albany Medical Center Hospital.

Born in New York City, he was the son of Pershing and Mary Klein Dickinson of Cooperstown and husband of Suzanne Kenderian Dickinson.

He was raised in Cooperstown and moved to Albany after college and was educated at Cooperstown High School and the State University of New York at Morrisville.

Mr. Dickinson was an unemployment tax examiner for the New York State Department of Labor for 33 years.

He was the statistician for the University of Albany basketball and football teams, the Albany Patroons, Albany Firebirds and Albany Colonie Yankees. He was also statistician for many local groups, was the secretary for the Capital District Boys Basketball Scholar Athletic Program, director of media relations and statistician for Section II Boys Basketball, head statistician for the New York state Boys Basketball Tournament and editor and chief of the Section II Basketball Sectional Program. He was a sports writer for the Daily Gazette and Times Union newspapers. He was a member of St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet and past trustee.

Survivors, in addition to his wife and parents, include a daughter Kimberly Dickinson Aceti of Grand Island; a son, Michael Douglas Dickinson of Clifton Park; a sister, Nancy Frances of Penn Yan; a son-in-law, Salvatore Aceti; a daughter-in-law, Maria Manoni Dickinson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. from the Bryce Funeral Home Inc., 276 Pawling Ave., Troy, and at 11 a.m. from St. Peter Armenian Apostolic Church in Watervliet with Rev. Garen Gdanian, former pastor, officiating.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 5-9 p.m.

Interment will be in Albany Rural Cemetery in Menands.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Doug to the Capital District Boys Basketball Scholar Athlete Program, c/o Bill Higgins, 140 Boshart Road, Fonda, N.Y. 12068 or St. Peter Armenian Church, 100 Troy-Schenectady Road, Watervliet, N.Y. 12189.

Agnes Fischer
LONGBOAT KEY, Fla. — Agnes (Bonnie) Fischer of Longboat Key, Fla., and Worcester, died of heart failure July 4, 1999, at her New York state home, Bonnie Acres. She was 81.

Born Agnes Foy on Sept. 19, 1917, in Elmwood Park, N.J., Bonnie lived with her late husband, Fred, in Glen Rock, N.J., for more than 30 years, where they raised five sons. Her husband was the founder of Garden State Tile Distributors Inc., a New Jersey-based ceramic tile company. For many years Bonnie worked with customers and assisted her husband in the tile color selections.

Retiring with her husband to Longboat Key in 1979, Bonnie was active in the Sarasota community serving on the board of directors for the Ringling School of Art and Design Library Assocation and the Longboat Key Women's Golf Association. In addition, she was a past president and member of the board of directors for the Longboat Key Library and board member of the Seaplace Condominium Association. She was a member of the Bird Key Yacht Club, the Longboat Key Golf Club and the Stamford Golf Club.

Her husband, Fred, died in 1993. They were married for 53 years. Bonnie is survived by four of her five sons and their wives, Fred and Suzie Fischer of Mariette, Ga., Linda Fischer of Skillman, N.J., Stephen and Eileen Fischer of Skillman, N.J., Mark and Gari Fischer of Weston, Vt., and Robert and Michele Fishcer of Westfield, N.J.; seven grandchildren; sisters, Cecilia Verrinder of New Jersey and Helyn Vogel of Florida; brother, Joseph Foy of New Jersey; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Keosian of New Jersey and Dorothy Fischer of Florida. Her son Jack died in 1997.

A funeral mass was held on July 6, 1999, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Worcester. A memorial mass will be held at her Longboat Key parish, St. Mary's Star of the Sea, at a future date.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's, 181 Main St., Worcester, N.Y. 12197 or Worcester EMS.

Marie Moore Veres
 Johnson CITY — Marie Moore Veres, 92, formerly of Gilbertsville, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, at the Susquehanna Nursing Home,  Johnson City.

She was born Feb. 4, 1907, the daughter of the late J. Merton Moore and Helen J. (Palmer) Moore.

She was predeceased by her husband, Michael N. Veres; her brother, Paul D. Moore; and her sister, Beatrce H. Brimley.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Helen Veres of Endicott and Michael M. and Donna Veres of Zephyrhills, Fla.; her sister, Margaret P. Moore of Chambersburg, Pa.; her brother and sister-in-law, James M. Jr and Mary Elizabeth (Daniels) Moore of Fredericksburg, Va.; four grandchildren, Lynne Talbot and Richard, Shawn and Robert Veres; three great-grandchildren, Bradley, Nathan and Gregory Talbot; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and a special friend Susan Frair.

Marie was a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gilbertsville, and librarian for many years in the Gilbertsville Free Library and the Gilbertsville Central School library. She served as tax collector for the town of Butternuts and Gilbertsville Central School district, treasurer of the Village Improvement Society and participated in a host of other village activities.

She will be interred at Brookside Cemetery, Gilbertsville, at the convenience of the family. A memorial service will be held at a future date. Friends wishing to do so may make contributions in Marie's name to the First Presbyterian Church, Gilbertsville, or to the Gilbertsville Free Library.

Arrangements are by the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, Binghamton.

Dorothy E. Rexroad
WORCESTER — Dorothy E. Rexroad, 86, formerly of Westford and Worcester, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999, at The Meadows.

She was born March 12, 1913, in Worcester, the daughter of Arthur and Ruth (Wright) McClintock.

She married James E. Rexroad on Oct. 7, 1935, in Wellsburg, W.Va. He died in 1972.

Dorothy lived in Selkirk for many years. Upon retiring, she moved back to Worcester.

She was a registered nurse, employed at the Albany Medical Center as a nursing supervisor. She retired in 1968.

She was a member of the Westford United Methodist Church, a member of the United Methodist Women and the Worcester Women's Club. She was a graduate of the Westford Union School and a graduate of the Syracuse Memorial Hospital School of Nursing on Sept. 27, 1934.

She is survived by two sisters, Nellie Bush of Westford and Georgia Sawyer of Worcester; two sisters-in-law, Helen McClintock of Worcester and Margaret Diehl of  Pennsylvania; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her brother, Walter McClintock.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 9, 1999, at the Westford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Alan Griffith, pastor of the Hyndsville United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester.

Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Thursday evening at the Skinner Funeral Chapel, Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Westford United Methodist Church.

Funeral arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, Worcester.

Phillip N. Greene
SIDNEY CENTER — Phillip N. Greene, 87, of Sidney Center, passed away Wednesday, July 7, at his home.

He was born to the late John and Kate (Snyder) Greene on Oct. 19, 1911, in Canton, Pa.

Phillip married Marie Elmore on July 19, 1937, in Downsville.

He was employed at ECD of Bendix, Sidney, since 1944 and retired as a machinist in February of 1977. Phillip was past president of the Delaware County Federation of Sportsmen as well as past president of the Sidney Center Rod and Gun Club. He was also a past member of the Sidney Center Fire Department and Emergency Squad.

Phillip was a great lover of hunting, fishing, bowling and golfing.

He is survived by his wife Marie Greene of Sidney Center; two sons, Arthur Greene of Unadilla and John R. Greene of Ellenton, Fla.; two daughters, Phyllis Brown of Bradenton, Fla., and Kay DeMott of Unadilla; a special cousin, Alice Loomis; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Philip was predeceased by a son, Richard Greene.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 12, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 11 a.m. The Rev. Jerry Shriver will officiate.

Friends may call Sunday, July 11. The family will be in attendance from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Burial will be in Highland Cemtery, Sidney Center.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the NYS Veterans Home, State Highway 220, Oxford, N.Y. 13830 or Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Michael C. Paradies
ARKVILLE — Michael C. Paradies, 17, of Arkville, died July 7, 1999, at Albany Medical Center after an automobile accident.

He was born June 19, 1982, in Staten Island.

He attended Margaretville Central School. He enjoyed basketball and skateboarding and other outdoor activities.

He is survived by his mother, Linda Paradies Manon, and his stepfather, Claude Manon of Arkville; two sisters, Lisa Vitale of Margaretville and Melissa Luneborg of  Texas; maternal grandparents, Richard and Marie Paradies of Margaretville; two nieces, Christina and Danielle Vitale; two nephews, Edward James Vitale and Hanson Luneborg; as well as aunts and uncles.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999, at Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. Richard Price, officiating.

Burial will be in the Margaretville Cemetery, Margaretville.

Calling hours will be Friday, July 9, 1999, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at Hynes Funeral Home.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Violet Wiest Hanson
LARGO, Fla. — Violet Wiest Hanson, 86, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at her home in Largo, Fla.

She was born March 30, 1913, in Oneonta, the daughter of Myron M. and Elsie Grant Wiest.

Violet married Willard G. Hanson on Oct. 16, 1938, by pastor Gollnick at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Atonement, then located on Grove Street.

Mrs. Hanson was a 1931 graduate of Oneonta High School, 1935 class of Hartwick College and 1936 class of the Oneonta Normal School. She did graduate work at  Texas Christian University, Fort Worth,  Texas. She was a member of the Hartwick College Alumni Association and editor of the early Alumni news, now WICK. She taught school at Islip and Binghamton. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Largo, Fla., and was an associate member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Atonement.

Violet is survived by her husband, Willard G. Hanson of Largo, Fla.; a sister, Evelyn Wiest Benjamin, and her husband, Carlton E., of Northport; nieces, Elaine Benjamin Rosner and her husband, Richard, of Vestal, Pamela Benjamin  Woods and her husband, Donald, and children, Christopher and Heather, of East Northport, and June Benjamin Hart and her husband, George III, and children, Jessica, Kellie and Sara, of East Northport; an aunt, Margaret Grand Kniskern; first cousins, Herbert Holstead and his wife, Marilyn, of San Diego,  Calif., Helen Holstead Wood and her husband, Richard, William Kniskern and his wife, Dorothy, of Pearce, Ariz., Betty Kniskern Russ and her husband, Wilbur, of Maryland, Wayne Kniskern and his wife, Janet, Fritz Grant and his wife, Helen, of Puyallup, Wash., Agnes Grant Young of Orlando, Fla., Robert Smith of Florida and Kenneth Smith of Pearce, Ariz.; second cousins and many nieces and nephews including Ronald Hanson, who has assisted us during the last three years; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Bates Hanson of West Winfield, Ellamae Myers Hanson of Cooperstown, Alice Hanson Ramp of Williston Park and Margaret Hanson Barker of Tannersville.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 12, 1999, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 1 Center St., Oneonta. The Rev. Dr. Robert E. Mansbach will officiate and deacon Laura Roper will assist. Marilyn Roper Simon will be the organist, Wayne Kniskern will sing "In the Garden" and the congregation will sing "Beautiful Saviour."

Pall bearers will be Ronald Hanson, Wilbur Russ, Wayne Kniskern, Richard Rosner and second cousins Robert Holstead and John Holstead. Burial will follow at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery Oneonta.

The family will receive friends at 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be given to the Endowment Fund of Willard G. and Violet Wiest Hanson of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 1 Center St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Phyllis V. Clewis
NEW PALTZ — Phyllis V. Clewis, 68, of New Paltz, died July 7, 1999, in New Paltz.

She was born Sept. 11, 1930 in Margaretville, the daughter of David Thomas Williams and Helen Marie Tompkins.

She graduated from Russell Sage College and was a home economics teacher. Later she was a senior case worker for the Delaware County Social Services Department.

She enjoyed reading, sewing and movies. She had a large collection of music albums and also was a former resident of Arkville.

She is survived by one son, David Clewis of Kingston; one daughter, Elizabeth Crim of Virginia; three grandchildren; and one sister, Lois Miller of Margaretville.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 1999, at the Clovesville Cemetery, Fleischmanns, with the Rev. George Carpenter officiating.

Arrangements are by Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Alan F. McEwan
COOPERSTOWN — A commital service for Dr. Alan Fletcher McEwan, VMD, will be Monday, July 12, 1999, at 10 a.m. at Lakewood Cemetery with Fr. John R. Roos, pastor of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, officiating.

Services are under the direction of the Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Wilhelm Koopmann
TREADWELL — Wilhelm Koopmann, 90, a 52-year Treadwell resident, died Friday morning, July 9, 1999, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

He was born July 22, 1908, in Stocken, Germany, the son of Wilhelm and Marie (Dierks) Koopmann and came to the U.S. in 1926 where he married Anna F. Mandel on April 11, 1929, in Brooklyn.

The Koopmanns lived in Brooklyn where "Bill" was a butcher by trade, and employed by Trunz Pork Store Inc. In 1947 the family moved to Treadwell where they purchased a dairy farm on Roaring Brook Road which Bill operated until his retirement in 1971.

He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Delhi and the Treadwell Fire Department.

Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Anna Koopmann (presently residing at Countryside Care Center); two sons and daughters-in-law, Frederick and Johanna Koopmann of Treadwell and William and Annette Koopmann of Albuquerque, N.M.; five grandchildren, Susan Prokop and Ralph, Mark, Helana and Vince Koopmann; a sister, Greta Twietmeier as well as several nieces and nephews in Germany.

Friends are invited to call on Monday at their convenience at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi. (The family will not be in attendance.)

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Delhi by the Rev. Richard J. Niebanck. Burial will follow in the Croton Union Cemetery, Treadwell.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

John G. Zesewitz
HARTWICK — "Absent from the body, present with the Lord."

The Rev. John G. Zesewitz, 64, of Hartwick passed away Friday, July 9, 1999, at his residence with his family at his side.

He was born July 8, 1935, in Atlantic City, N.J., the son of John H. and Gertrude (Weisig) Zesewitz.

On Oct. 1, 1960, in Fair Lawn, N.J., he married Elaine Eldredge, who survives.

John was an engineer prior to beginning a 13-year ministry in Christian radio. He served as pastor at the Calvary Baptist Church in Richland from 1982-87, the First Baptist Church in Berlin from 1988-90 and the West Edmeston Baptist Church from 1990-95.

He was a veteran serving in the United States Army from 1957-65, and a graduate of Weidner College in Chester, Pa. with a bachelor's degree in engineering and the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

He was a member of the National Religious Broadcasters and the Conservative Baptist Association of New York State. He was worshipping at the Toddsville Bible Chapel.

In addition to his wife, Elaine, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Mark J. and Aimee of Clifton Park; a son Paul E. of Richfield Springs; two grandchildren, Shane and Shawn and a brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Gloria Zesewitz of Ridley Park, Pa.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 12 at 10 a.m. at the West Edmeston Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the West Edmeston Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday, July 11 at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Contributions in John's memory may be made to the Toddsville Bible Chapel or Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon and time of fellowship at the Parish House following the committal.

Funeral arrangements are by the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Fitch Watts
OXFORD — Fitch Watts, 78, of 1150 County Road 4, Oxford, died Wednesday, July 7, 1999, at Valley View Manor in Norwich.

He was born Aug. 12, 1920, in Gilbertsville, the son of Arthur and Lydia (Townsend) Watts.

He is survived by his children Edward, Russell, Rosemary and Patsy; his brothers, Wallace Watts of Norwich and Reed Spraker of Seattle, Wash.; his sister, Vera Gilbert and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters Dora Horne, Ersel Houghtaling, Alice Race and Nellie King.

Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are being handled by the Behe Funeral Home, Oxford.

Kenneth S. Carson
ONEONTA — Kenneth S. Carson, 80, of Oneonta died Friday, July 9, 1999, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born July 21, 1918, in Maryland, the son of Stephen and Minnie (Wildey) Carson.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the United States Navy in the European Theater of Operations.

He was a truck driver and repairman for Atlantic Richfield for several years. He was a past member of the Morris Pony Club, the Retreads Motorcycle Club. He loved the New York Yankees and reading and playing poker.

Kenneth is survived by a son, Kenneth and a daughter-in-law, Florence of Cooperstown; five daughters, Christine of Cooperstown, Madeline of Sharon, Toni, Joann and Tina, all of Oneonta; also one stepson, Harry and one stepdaughter, Peggy. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a son, Theodore, in 1989.

Graveside funeral and committal services will be on Wednesday, July 14, 1999, at 2 p.m. in the Walton Cemetery in Walton, with Pastor Rick Yerdon, officiating. After the services, there will be a gathering at the West Oneonta Fire Station.

There will be no calling hours.

Those who wish may make donations to the Hartwick Seminary Fire Department, State Highway No. 28, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
