FRANK DAVID KURTZ

Frank David Kurtz, 78, recently of Saranac Village Will Rogers Retirement Community, died Tuesday, February 24, 2004 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY.

Born in Rochester, NY, on October 9, 1925, he was the son of Frank Lawrence and Sarah (Morse) Kurtz.

He grew up in Rochester, NY, with his parents and sisters: Ruth and Elizabeth Kurtz. In 1952, he married Mary Phyllis Sherry.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis of Saranac Lake; one son: Mark Kurtz of Saranac Lake; two daughters and one son-in-law: Sherry and her husband Phillip LaPlante of Piercefield, and Eileen Kurtz of Johnstown, NY; one granddaughter: Holly Linn LaPlante Kurtz of Piercefield; one sister: Betty Stanton of Trumansburg, NY, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister: Ruth Will.

Calling hours are set to take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Saturday from 12pm to 1:30pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 2pm at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake with Reverend Thomas Kornmeyer officiating.

NORRIS CRARY

Norris Crary, of 19 Front Street, Tupper Lake, died Friday, February 27, 2004 at his home. Calling hours are scheduled for Sunday, February 29, from 2-4 and 7-9pm at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. Funeral Services are tentatively scheduled for Monday at the United Community Church.

GEORGE W. OLSON

George W. Olson, age 93, formerly of 86 Kiwassa Road, Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at Uihlein Mercy Center where she had been a resident since 2001.

Born in Watervliet, New York on November 26, 1910, he was the son of Oscar and Hanna (Peterson) Olson. He married Frederica Shutts on October 15, 1937 in Ballston Spa, NY.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years: Frederica of Saranac Lake, NY; two daughters: Linda Bonaduce and her husband Albert of Saranac Lake, NY, and Pamela Stewart and her husband Charles of Skaneateles, NY; 6 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by five brothers and one sister.

Calling hours will be held at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday from 3-4:45pm. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 4:45pm at the funeral home with Reverend Carol Drew officiating. Following cremation, burial will be at Saratoga National Cemetery in Saratoga, NY.

Friends wishing to remember George W. Olson may make memorial contributions to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.

SYLVIA CHARLAND

Sylvia Charland, age 85, of 38 Ampersand Avenue, Saranac Lake, New York, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at the Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh, New York.

Born in Coladurto, Italy, on May 13, 1918, she was the daughter of Louis and Maria D'Onofrio. She married Arthur J. Charland, Sr. on July 4, 1938 in Lake Placid, NY. He predeceased her February 8, 2003.

She is survived by two daughters: Linda Piro and her husband Rocco of Saranac Lake, NY, Deborah Trim and her husband Gerald of Saranac Lake, NY; one son: Arthur Charland, Jr. and his wife Terry of Saranac Lake, NY; 4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her infant son: Nelson James Charland; two brothers: Michael D'Onofrio and Louis D'Onofrio; and one sister: Levia D'Onofrio.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1pm on Saturday at St. Bernard's Church with Reverend Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.

Joseph "Bud" D. Gardner, age 79, of 383 Swinyer Road, Vermontville, died Monday, February 06, 2006 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, New York. Born in Watsontown, New York on December 19, 1926, he was the son of Albert and Orpha (Stickles) Gardner. He married Barbara A. Patnode in 1959 in East Bloomfield, New York. Mr. Gardner had been a resident of Vermontville for over 34 years coming from Macedon, New York. He was employed at Paul Smiths College in the Maintenance Department for 10 years until his retirement in 1989. Prior to that he drove school bus for 7 years and had worked at Wegmans Grocery Store and McCurty Department Store in Rochester, New York from 1964 to 1971. Mr. Gardner is a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. He is survived by his wife Barbara Gardner of Vermontville, NY; one son Ronald Gardner and his wife JoAnn of Vermontville, NY; two grandaughters Megan and Brittany Gardner of Vermontville, NY; one sister Mrs. Norma Lyons of Holcomb, NY; and one brother Donald Gardner of  White Pine, PA, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; two sisters Mrs. Marjorie Allison, and Mrs. Shirley Wilson, and one brother during WWII Paul Gardner. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. Private services will take place at the convenience of the family. Richard M. Edwards, 75, of Trillium Drive, Lake Placid passed away January 29 in Englewood, FL, where he and his wife enjoyed the winter months. He was born in Rome, NY in 1930, the son of Maurice and Laura (Campbell) Edwards. He was educated in Rome public schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy. He became a licensed funeral director after graduating from Simmons School of Mortuary Science in Syracuse. Mr. Edwards married the former Janet Strong in 1947. Dick and Janet made their home in Lake Delta, NY and Rome where he worked at Strong Funeral Home for nine years. He moved to Black River, NY in 1961 and joined the Marsellus Casket Company where he worked for 33 years as a traveling sales representative in central NY, Vermont, New Hampshire and Ontario. In 1989 Dick and Janet made their home in Lake Placid. He retired from Marsellus Casket Company in August 1994. Dick is survived by his wife Janet of Lake Placid and their children Richard M. Edwards Jr. and his wife Linda of Potsdam and Claudia J. Quinn and her husband Dennis of Champion, NY. He's also survived by his sister Betty Jane Sutcliffe of Hampden, MA and two grandchildren. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 4 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Sherwood Charles "Woody" Amell, 73 of Tupper Lake died Monday January 30 at his home with his family and care of High Peaks Hospice. Born in April 1932 in Tupper Lake he was the son of Leslie Peter and Florence Elizabeth "Castell" Amell. He grew up in Tupper Lake and completed his formal education at Tupper Lake Central School. As a young man he worked with the Emporium Lumber Company in Conifer. Woody served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. During his years with the Reserves he began working with Sunmount VA and through its transition to Sunmount DDSO, retiring in 1991 as grounds supervisor. He enjoyed hunting, card playing and socializing at the VFW and CJ's. He was a member of the Tupper Lake Fire Dept. Co. 2 and CSEA Local 916. He is survived by his two sisters, Margaret Vezeau and her husband, Paul of Tupper Lake and Barbara Caron and her husband, Ray of Tupper Lake and Southington, CT, two sisters in law, Rena Amell and Shirley Dechene, both of Tupper Lake; 23 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and great nephews and cousins and long time companion, Mary DiStefano. He was predeceased by one sister, Christina Lavigne; three brothers, Raymond, Stanley and James. Calling hours will be held at the Richer Funeral Home on Wednesday February 1 from 2-4 and 79 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Thursday morning February 2 at Holy Name Church at 11 a.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad or High Peaks Hospice in care of the funeral home.

Hilda Helms, age 92, of Hobe Sound, Florida died Saturday, January 21, 2006 in Hobe Sound. Born in Belmont, New York on February 14, 1913, she was the daughter of Oscar and Dora (Earle) Holmes. Mrs. Helms had been a resident of Bloomingdale since 1945 and moved to Florida in 2000 to make her home with her daughter Rebecca. She was past mayor of Bloomingdale serving two terms, was deputy town clerk and was on the board of elections as well as a member of the Home Bureau and the Vermontville Senior Citizens. She was an active member of the Bloomingdale Methodist Church and had been a member of the Friendship Club as well as other church organizations. She enjoyed crafts, puzzles reading and letter writing. She is survived by two daughters: Rebecca Starkey of Hobe Sound, FL and Sally Herker and husband Merlyn of Kennewick, WA, two sons: Merrill Helms and wife Gail of Jupiter, FL and Daniel Helms of Hobe Sound, FL, 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 8 great-great-grandchildren, three sisters: Leona Wendel of Malone, NY, Bertha Koehler of Juno, FL and Lucy Schoen of N. Bangor, NY and one brother: Newell Holmes of Bombay, NY and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband James Helms, her father Oscar Holmes, her mother Dora Earle, her grandson Brian Booras, her brothers: Asa, Cyrus, Earl and Richard Holmes, her sisters Martha, Bertha, and Jennie Holmes. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, February 3, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9PM. The funeral service will be held Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. at the Bloomingdale Methodist Church., with Reverend Andrea Sears officiating. James A. Brown, age 74, of State Route 3, Sugarbush, NY died Sunday, January 29, 2006 at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Facility in Burlington, Vermont. Born in Plattsburgh, New York on November 07, 1931, he was the son of James and Myrtle (Bushey) Brown. He married Audrey Miner on January 6, 1968 at St. Paul's Church in Bloomingdale, NY. She predeceased him on September 5, 1997. Mr. Brown attended and graduated from Plattsburgh High School, where he was an outstanding football and track athlete. He held several track records there for many years. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in the 407th Field Maintenance Squadron during the Korean War from 1951 to 1955. Following the his service in the Air Force he returned home and worked as a plumber for over 35 years, for the Plumber and Steam Fitters Union # 773 until his retirement in 1998. He also had served as a NYS DEC Park Ranger at Buck Pond for 10 years and was appointed by NYS DEC as a Fire Warden, which he served for many, many years. Mr. Brown volunteered for the Iron Man in Lake Placid. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt, and trap. His passion and legacy will be his love of nature and the outdoors. He loved animals especially his dog Kelly and feeding the birds. Mr. Brown was a member of the AuSable Forks VFW Post 0504. He is survived by three nephews Keith Brown of Sugarbush, NY, Kevin Brown of Ellenburg, NY, and Danny Brown of Loon Lake, NY; two nieces Vanessa Rascoe of Loon Lake, NY and Lynne Nichols of Sugarbush, NY; one step son Charles Partridge of Central Square, and several great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, one brother Keith Brown, and one sister Janet Norton. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place in Loon Lake Cemetery in June. Friends wishing to remember James A. Theresa R. LaLonde, 77, of Averyville Lane in Lake Placid passed away peacefully at her home January 25, 2006. She was born in Lake Placid March 23, 1928 the daughter of Oscar and Florida (Daoust) Husereau. She was married to Richard LaLonde Sr. He passed away in 1973. Mrs. LaLonde was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Mrs. LaLonde is survived by her close companion John O'Gorman of Lake Placid and nine children; Sandra Hudson of Lake Placid, Brenda Parrish and her husband Jim of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Agnes Hollrock and her husband Mike of Lake Placid, Althea Bovee and her husband George of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Richard LaLonde and his wife Sandy of Pompano Beach, Florida, Charis Dunn and her husband John of Deerfield Beach, Florida, Theresa Novak and her husband Jack of Farmersbranch,  Texas, Mary Bedard and her husband Pat of Catoosa,  Oklahoma, and Scott LaLonde of Lake Placid. Two brothers, Elezor Joe Husereau of Ticonderoga and Xavier Husereau of Lake Placid and three sisters, Blanch Southmayd of Lake Placid, Mary Musgrove of Lake Placid, and Marguerite Martin of Rochester. A brother, Oscar Husereau passed away October 2005. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Sunday, January 29, 2006 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A bible vigil service will be held at the funeral home at 8:45pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, January 30, 2006 at 10am at St. Agnes Church with Reverend Patrick O'Reilly officiating. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in May. The family suggests those wishing, may make donations to the Senior Citizens Center in Lake Placid.

Richard Harold Hugg, age 78, of 60 Church St., Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born in Vermontville, New York on March 19, 1927, he was the son of Robert and Edith (Ling) Hugg. One of Richard's greatest loves was delivering the Grit Newspaper for 45 years. When Dick was not riding his bicycle, he could be found doing chores or errands for people throughout the community. He enjoyed the friendship of many people in Saranac Lake and spent many happy hours in conversation with them. He is survived by a sister: Gladys Heath of Saranac Lake, five nephews, and one niece and several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Hugg, his mother Edith Ling, and his brother Ernest Robert Hugg. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, January 27, 2006 from 10-11:30AM.. A funeral service will follow at 11:30 A.M. at the funeral home with Pastor Gene Thomas, pastor of the Seventh Day Adventist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Pine Ridge Cemetery in Saranac Lake in May. Paul L. Thornton, 87, passed away January 24, 2006 at United Helpers Cedar Nursing Home in Ogdensburg. He was born in Lake Placid on June 7, 1918 the son of William and Martha (Wilkins) Thornton. He was married to the former Lucille Roy who passed away in 1983. Mr. Thornton was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Airforce. He lived on Sentinel Road in Lake Placid for many years and worked for the Town of North Elba as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1980. He was a member of the American Legion Post 326 in Lake Placid and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3357 in Saranac Lake. Mr. Thornton is survived by one son, Paul R. Thornton and his wife Patsy of South Colton. He is also survived by two granddaughters, Kelly Rae and Kerry Beth Thornton of Norwood, Massachusetts, one step grandson Chad Dennis of South Colton and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Saturday, January 28 from 10 to 11:45am at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. An American Legion prayer service will be held at the funeral home January 28 at 11am followed by a bible vigil service at 11:45am. A mass of Christian burial will be held on January 28 at noon at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Reverend Joseph Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agnes cemetery in May. The family suggest donations be made to the South Colton Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Patricia J. Kilburn, 74, of Cottonwood Way, Lake Placid passed away January 21, 2006 at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. She was born in Lake Placid, May 5, 1931 the daughter of Michael and Lucinda (Stowe) Grady. She was a graduate of Lake Placid High School class of 1950. Mrs. Kilburn had worked at the River Ranch in Lake Placid for several years. She was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church. She is survived by her son John Kilburn of Lake Placid and her daughter Betty Mousseau and her husband Kevin of Lake Placid; four grandchildren, Craig and Keith Shipman of Lake Placid, Melissa and Tyler Kilburn of Moriah, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held Monday, January 23, 2006 from 6 to 8pm at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A funeral service will be held following visiting hours at 8pm at the funeral home. Reverend Patrick O'Reilly will officiate. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery in May.

Jeannette Conroy Valdez, age 93, of 84 Maryland Ave, Saranac Lake, died Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Uihlein Mercy Center Nusting home where she had been a resident since October 6, 2005. Born in Wilkes Barre,  Pennsylvania on March 25, 1912, she was the daughter of James and Jeannette (Wilde) Conroy. Jeannette attended school in Sellersville, PA and then transferred to Columbia in South Orange, NJ. She also attended business school. She married John "Jack" Valdez in 1931 and they had a son in 1933 who died in 1934. Jack was associated with the Thomas P. Ward Real Estae and Insurance office until his death in 1971. Jeannette took a practical nurse course and passed her examination at Albany Medical Hospital. She served as a volunteer nurse at the Saranac Lake General Hospital during the war. She also worked as a nurse secretary in the office of Dr. Francis B. Trudeau until his death. When Amercian Management Assn opened their office in Saranac Lake she was their first employee and served as the Personnel Manager until her retirement in 1981. She was a member of the Saranac Lake Gold Club and had been an ardent golfer since 1936. She also enjoyed snow skiing. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and at the Adirondack Medical Center for over 30 years. She is survived by one brother James Conroy Jr. of Brant Lake, NY, several nieces and nephews including Brian Conroy and his wife Jill, Jessica Rufe and her husband Dan, James Conroy III and his wife Basia, Regina Wentz and her husband Dean, and Janice Cairel and her husband Jack. He is also survived by one sister in-law Veronica Conroy. She was preceded in death by her husband, her father and mother and oen brother Dr. Edward Conroy. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 24, 2006 from 2PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM. A bible vigil service will take place on Tuesday afternoon. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday January 25, 2006 at 11:15 A.M. at St. Bernard's Church., with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in May. Salvatore Bimonte, 91, of Main Street Lake Placid passed away Saturday, January 14, 2006 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut, August 23, 1914 the son of Michael and Clemantine Bimonte. His wife Mae (Flintom) Bimonte died earlier. He was the owner and operator of the Cobbler Shop located on Main Street on Main Street in Lake Placid. He was a veteran of the Army serving in World War II. Mr. Bimonte is survived by three sons, Matthew Bimonte and his wife Theresa of Lake Placid; Michael Bimonte of Ray Brook; and Mark Bimonte of Lake Placid, and two daughters, Jacqueline Leonard of St. Louis, Missouri, and Brenda Nugent of Lake Placid. He is also survived by six grandchildren. There are no calling hours. A Graveside Service will be held at St. Agnes Cemetery, Lake Placid in May.

Charles B. Fox, 67, of 496 River Road, Lake Placid died Friday January 13 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. He was born in Utica in 1938 the son of Charles J. and Catherine (Fuchs) Fox. He attended Utica College and went on to graduate with honors from the Aviation Cadet Program of the US Air Force. In 1961 He married Carol Edwards in Utica. They settled on Fish Hatchery Road in Rome where they raised four children. Charlie was employed at Griffiss Air Force Base as a vehicle maintenance officer. He was also active in the National Guard Reserves with the 174th Tactical Fighter Wing in Syracuse until his retirement. For 23 years, Chuck and Carol worked together to build their own business, Natural Solutions, distributing Shaklee Products. He was actively involved in St. Agnes Parish in Lake Placid as a Eucharistic Minister and Altar Server. He was also a member of the Lake Placid American Legion Post 326. Favorite pastimes included riding his Harley and boating and kayaking on the Adirondack lakes. Surviors include four children - Donna M. Sullivan of Jamesville, NY, Laura C. Bennett of Deerfield, IL, Daniel R. Fox of Lake Placid and Greg C. Fox of Schuyler Falls and two grandchildren. Calling hours took place Sunday at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A funeral mass will take place Monday morning, January 16, at St. Agnes Church at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department or the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service.

Richard J. Modell, age 79, of 35 Breezy Acres Lane, Saranac Lake, died Saturday, January 07, 2006 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born in New York City, New York on September 06, 1926, he was the son of John and Dorothy (Shmutty) Modell. Mr. Modell was a long time resident of the Saranac Lake area and had been employed at the Ray Brook State Hospital in Ray Brook for many years as a Stationary Engineer. He later went to work for a tree service company as a foreman and tree climber and had worked closely with Niagara Mohawk. Prior to moving to Saranac Lake he lived in Poland, New York where he was a member of the volunteer fire department there for 4 years. Mr. Modell was also a past member of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department where he served for 36 years. He is survived by three brothers Robert Modell of Bossie City, LA, Donald Modell of Kennebunk, ME, and Francis Modell of Punta Gorda, and FL. He is also survived by many close friends including Gary Kilner of Saranac Lake. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. Maureen Patricia Hackett, 72, of Lake Placid, Staten Island and formerly of Ridgefield, CT, died unexpectedly at her home in Lake Placid on Monday, January 2, 2006. Born in Brooklyn on August 16, 1933, she was the only daughter of Martin Durkin and Marie Donegan Durkin of Ireland. Raised in Brooklyn she was a member of St. Matthew's Parish, where she married Joseph R. Hackett on February 27, 1954. She was the loving wife of Joseph for nearly 52 years. As a young woman, she graduated from Bishop MacDonell Memorial High School and attended Fordham University. During her college career she was a Copa Cabana line dancer and Conover Model. She began her married life as an United States Air Force wife in Florida and  Texas, and later in France and Germany. She returned with her husband to the states with two young daughters. As a loving mother of four she was involved with her children as the Girl Scout Leader of Troop 136 in Ridgefield and many events at St. Mary's School, the former Notre Dame Academy and Mamanasco Lake. Mrs. Hackett also ran the Ridgefield Model Agency and Location Service during the 60's and 70's. Maureen, affectionately known as Mos, was proud of her Irish heritage and passed it on to her family in song and dance. Besides her husband, she is survived by her two daughters, Dawn Hackett Miner and her husband Gregory of Shushan, NY and Trez Hackett of Mount Kisco and her son Brian Hackett and his wife Grace of Baldwin, NY. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great grand child, two brothers and other family and friends. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, January 7 at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Ridgefield, CT. Burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Percy J. "Perc" De Lair, a life-long resident of Tupper Lake died December 27, 2005 at Mercy Healthcare Center where had resided since March 2002. Born November 11, 1913 the only son of Daniel H. and Delia Themens De Lair , Percy graduated from high school in 1933. He was married to Claire Villnave on November 15th of the same year in St. Joseph's Chapel by Monsignor Hervioux. Claire died on May 20, 1994 after 60 years of marriage. Percy was always an active part of the community beginning as an enterprising entrepreneur at the age of 1 5 when he operated a pop-corn concession in his uncle's barber shop on Park Street. He later clerked and managed the Iroquois Hotel before beginning a thirty-three year career with Prudential Insurance in 1939. For many years he was an active member and served as president of the local chapter of the National Association of Life Underwriters. Percy served with the United States Army in the European theatre during World War II. He was wounded in action in northern Italy and spent three months in a convalescing hospital in London before returning to his beloved home town and young family. An avid skier and horseman, Percy initiated a local horse show in the early 60's which continued under the auspices of the Rotary Club after he became a member. Always an active participant and colorful promoter of Rotary endeavors, Percy wasthe project coordinator for the construction of the Rotary Pavilion at the Municipal Park in 1981 and was later named a Paul Harris Fellow. Survivors include one son Ron De Lair and his wife DiAne of Saranac Lake, two grandchildren - Robin Hoke and her husband Chuck of Springboro, OH; Dale Trexler and his wife Leslie of Charlottesville, VA; six great grandchildren and one great great grandson. Wendell W. Collins, age 63, of 651 County Route 31,  Jones Pond Road, Rainbow Lake, died Monday, December 26, 2005 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. George Paul Peroni, age 80, of 78 Will Rogers Drive, Saranac Lake, and formerly of Rainbow Lake died Friday, December 23, 2005 at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid where he had been a resident since September. Born in New London, Connecticut on December 31, 1924, he was the son of Paolo and Victoia (Orazi) Peroni. George, married Frances M. Mournighan July 18, 1953 in St. Peter's Church, Oswego, NY. She predeceased him in 1990. Mr. Peroni attended and graduated from Paul Smiths College in 1949, North Carolina State University with a B.S. in Forestry in 1951 and St. Lawrence University with a Masters in Education in 1963. Mr. Peroni was a Professor Emeritus in the Forestry Division at Paul Smiths College where he worked from 1953 to 1995. He was a Professor of Forestry from 1953 to 1986, Academic & Transfer Advisor from 1986 to 1990, and a part time faculty member from 1990 to 1995. Prior joining the faculty at Paul Smiths he had been employed by Dow Chemical Company and the U.S. Forest Service. Mr. Peroni is a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II in the 82nd Airborn and 63rd Infantry in France and Germany. He was a battlefield Commission Officer 2nd Lt. and was decorated with two Purple Hearts for being wounded in combat, two Bronze Stars and the Army Distinguished Service Cross for Valor. He also received four Battle Stars. He is survived by one daughter Patricia Peroni of Davidson, NC, one son Luke Peroni of Girdwood, AK, and a nephew, Luke Lukoski of Hanover, MA. He was preceded in death by one son Paul Peroni on December 29, 1959, and by two sisters, Rose Lukoski and Neva Newcomb, both of New London, CT. Michael J. Clarke, age 63, of 44 Marshall Street, Saranac Lake, died Friday, December 16, 2005 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born in Brooklyn, New York on December 27, 1941, he was the son of John and Margaret (Prendergast) Clarke. Mr. Clarke grew up in Saratoga Springs, NY where he attended and graduated from the St. Clements and the Spa Catholic Schools. he continued his studies at Siena College and St. Bonaventure University. Mr. Clarke joind the New York Telephone Company in Saratoga Springs and later transfered to Saranac Lake. He was a long time resident of Saranac Lake and worked for the Telephone company until his retirement. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving for 7 years in South Korea and West Germany. He is a past member of the Saranac Lake American Legion Post 447. He is survived by his father John Clarke of Saratoga Springs, NY; one brother Philip Clarke of Saratoga Springs, NY, three sisters Catherine Clarke of Saratoga Springs, NY, Nancy  White of Queensburry, NY, and Margaret Fueston of Stillwater, NY; one niece Jennifer  White of Queensburry, NY; three nephews Cullen  White of Queenburry, NY, Matthew Fueston of Stillwater, NY, and Michael Fueston of Stillwater, NY. He is also survived by cousin here and in Ireland. He was preceded in death by his mother Margaret (Prendergast) Clarke. Marie S. McCartney, 99, of Park Street, Tupper Lake and most recently of Mercy Healthcare Center died there Tuesday, December 13, 2005. She was born in Saranac Lake in 1906, the daughter of Robert and Anne Murphy Sadler. Marie grew up in Saranac Lake and completed her education at Saranac Lake High School. On January 7, 1928 she and James Rae Watson McCartney of Huntington Quebec were married in Saranac Lake. They made their home in Saranac Lake and Watertown prior to coming to Tupper Lake in 1937. Mrs. McCartney was proud of being a Pioneer Telephone operator. Her great love was for her family and entertaining her friends at bridge. As a young lady she skied the slopes below Mt. Morris. In her retirement, Marie kept busy in her son and daughter in laws clothing store. She is survived by her son James Jr. and his wife Judy of Tupper Lake; three grandsons; one granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren. Calling hours were held Wednesday, December 14 at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. Patrick H. Wind, age 64, of 14 Kiwassa Road, Saranac Lake, died Saturday, December 10, 2005 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born in Buffalo in 1941, he was the son of Harlow and Marion (Savage) Wind. Patrick had been a resident of Saranac Lake since 1996 coming from Buffalo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the 1960's. He transferred to the U.S. National Guard and then later to the Army Reserve and was stationed in Buffalo. He was an avid photographer and artist. Patrick loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, boating and fishing. He is survived by two daughters Bonnie Louise and Mary Kate, both of Buffalo; one sister Linda Chaffee of Akron, NY and five grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. Rose D. Stiles, age 86, died peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, December 8 at the Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. Born in 1919 in Brooklyn she was the daughter of James and Emma (Eden) Sherry. In 1940 she married Chester F. Stiles in Hollis. She had been a resident of Lake Placid for 24 years and a summer resident on Upper Saranac Lake for the past 50 years before entering Mercy Healthcare Center. Prior to moving to Lake Placid she was a resident of Garden City and had been employed as a purchasing assistant at Adelphi University. Survivors include her daughter Patricia Wills and her husband John of Brewster and Upper Saranac Lake, her son Curt and his wife Susan of Upper Saranac Lake, six granddaughters and six great-grand children. There will be no calling hours. A private family service was held on Saturday. Florence Stephenson, age 85, formerly of Rosevelt Ave., Bloomingdale, died Sunday, December 4, 2005 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. She had more recently been a resident at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. Born in Saranac Lake, New York on June 8, 1920, she was the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Betters) Charland. Florence was raised in Saranac Lake and attended local schools. She had been employed at Ray Brook Sanitarium for several years. She and her husband Bud loved to dance and she enjoyed cooking. Florence was married to Albert "Bud" Stephenson on October 5, 1974. He died January 7,2003. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her father Fred Charland, and her mother Elizabeth Betters four brothers: Raymond, Earl, Carl and Peter and four sisters: Leila Kern, Mildred Kimpton, Edna Gladd and Elizabeth Peters. Darlene Romito, 61, of Tupper Lake, died Friday December 2, 2005 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born in 1944 in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of Douglas and Catherine (Burnell) Drum. She attended school in Burlington, NJ and married John Romito Sr., in October 1962. She worked in the New Jersey area for several years in the retail/sales business. In 1999 she moved to Tupper Lake where she was employed by Kinney Drugs. She is survived by one son John Jr. of Tupper Lake; one daughter, Lynne Romito of Tupper Lake; two grandchildren Kevin and Tony; one brother Douglas and his wife Michele Drum of Saranac Lake; two sisters, Donna and her husband Al Broadbent of Buford, Georgia; Debbie and her husband Timothy Wise of Tupper Lake and several cousins. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, December 6 from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at the Tupper Lake Christian Center, Park Street in Tupper Lake, followed by a funeral service at the Christian Center. Joseph A. Isabella Sr., age 66, of Lake Clear, died Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, VT. Born in Rotterdam Junction, New York on March 28, 1939, he was the son of Ralph and Philomena (Masterpolo) Isabella. Joe had been a butcher in Rotterdam Junction before moving to Saranac Lake in 1964. Along with his father, he helped manage the Alpine Hotel in Saranac Lake. He continued to operate the hotel for several years after his fathers death. He was self-employed in the construction field and operated a blacktopping business. He was also the steward at the Elks Club for ten years. Joe loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his dog Teddy and his cat Lucky. He is survived by his wife: the former Patricia Aucompaugh, whom he married April 27, 1960 in Rotterdam Junction, NY, six children: Irene Morock and husband John of Fort Myers, FL, Ralph Isabella and his wife Teresa of Lake Clear, NY, Joseph Isabella of Ft. Myers, FL, Anthony Isabella and his wife Monica of Saranac Lake, Todd Isabella and his wife Katrena of Bloomingdale and Amy Isabella of Saranac Lake, nine grandchildren: Travis and Madison Morock, Gabrielle, Joseph, Benjamin, Michael, Ashley, Anthony and Ava Isabella, two sisters: Patricia Mastroianni of Rotterdam Junction, NY and JoAnn Halloran and her husband Owen of Canton, NY and six nieces and nephews. Elizabeth Morgan, 83, a resident of Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, formerly of 30 Greenwood Street in Lake Placid, passed away Thursday, December 1 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. She was born in Brooklyn, October 23, 1922, the daughter of Stephen and Mathilda (Boetteker) Northrup. Her first husband Addison S. Whitman passed away in 1973. Her second husband Watson Morgan passed away in 1984. Mrs. Morgan had worked as a secretary for G.R. Leonard and Co. in New York City. She is survived by one son, Walter Whitman and his wife Nicole of College Point, NY; one granddaughter Elizabeth Whitman of College Point; one step son, Donald Morgan and his wife Shirley of Saranac Lake; one step daughter, Barbara Ferking of Centerreach, NY and other family members. A mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, December 3 at 12 noon at Reiss Memorial Chapel in Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. Rev. Patrick O'Reilly will officiate. Seth Arlington Sawyer, age 5, of 149 Vosburgh Road, Rainbow Lake, NY died peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, November 21, 2005 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake after a life long illness. Seth was born in Albany, New York on July 04, 2000, the son of Gordon and Carol (Dora) Sawyer. He is survived by his father and mother Carol and Gordon Sawyer of Rainbow Lake, NY; one brother Ethan and one sister Carley Sawyer both of Rainbow Lake, NY. Seth is also survived by his paternal grandmother Alma Sawyer and maternal grandmother Elizabeth Dora both of Saranac Lake, NY, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Gordon Reginald Sawyer, and his maternal grandfather Arlington Dora. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. Mary Elizabeth Barrett, 95, of Mercy Healthcare in Tupper Lake died Saturday evening November 19, 2005 in the company of her daughters. She was born January 14, 1910 IN Leraysville, New York the daughter of Albert J. and Delia (Denesha) Baker. She was raised in Watertown and graduated from the public high school in 1928. As a young lady she worked with the telephone office and Woolworth’s in Watertown. On June 16, 1930 she and Theodore Wilfred Barrett of Tupper Lake were married in Watertown. They had always made their home in Tupper Lake. Mrs. Barrett was always a capable seamstress especially for her children and grandchildren. Betty enjoyed skiing and hiking on the hills below Mt. Morris with Marie McCartney. She had volunteered for the Red Cross during World War II. She is survived by her two daughters, Elizabeth Jean Smith and Mary Patricia LaMere both of Tupper Lake, 16 grandchildren, 32 grandchildren, and three great great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held Monday, November 21 at the Richer Funeral Home in Tupper Lake from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. A funeral Mass will be held Tuesday morning, November 22 at St. Alphonsus Church at 11am. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Alice Dashnaw, 87, of Moody Road, Tupper Lake died unexpectedly Thursday 17, 2005 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. She was born August 14, 1918 the daughter of Mary Dashnaw. For many years she lived in Rome, New York. She came to Tupper Lake in the early 1960’s and to the home of Joseph and Margaret Haile in 1966. Alice worked at the Blue Anchor Restaurant and Holiday House Restaurant on Park Street with the Haile family and at their home on Moody Road. Alice always loved animals especially her own poodles and dachshunds. She loved crocheting, gardening and listening to music. She is survived by her “mom” Margaret Haile of Tupper Lake, a “brother” Dennis DeGroot and Joan of Florida, her “sisters” and their companions and children, Jessica Haile and Alan of Garland,  Texas, Mary Clarahan and Joey, Ryan, and Kelley Clarahan, Peggy Brown and Richard of Bloomingdale, Donnie Brown, Nicole, and Trenton of Tupper Lake, and Robbie Brown and Morgan of Lake Placid. A memorial service to be held at the Richer Funeral Home will be announced. Memorial donations may be considered to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society in Saranac Lake.

Wilfred Pete LaMare, 78, died Sunday November 20 at Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone. Born in 1927 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Homer and Dezira (Puttrow) LaMare. Mr. LaMare attended local schools and then went to work as a trackman with the NY Central RR in Beaver River. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Navy. After his discharge he returned to TL where he married the former Gladys Bordman in 1950. She predeceased him in 1994. He was employed by Benson Mines, Wm. C.  Johnson and Sons and then later as a caretaker at Ivy Terrace retiring in 1993. He served his community as a member of the Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Department, a member of the Moose Club and a member of the Nomis hunting club. He's survived by one sister Violet LaMare of Tupper Lake, three brothers, Homer and his wife Mac, Lee and his wife Theresa and Doris and all of Tupper Lake. Calling hours will be held Tuesday November 22 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Holy Name Church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors. Gerard G. "G.G." Miner, age 69, of 9 River Street, Saranac Lake, died Saturday, November 19, 2005 at Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid, NY. Born May 24, 1936 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Edward and Freida (Durett) Miner.

He married Margarite Wagner on June 12, 1961. She predeceaded him in 1966. Mr. Miner was a life long resident of the area. He was employed by New York Telephone Company for 27 years until his retirement in 1995. Prior to that he had worked at the Ray Brook State Hospital, American Management Association and had been a paid driver for the Saranac Lake Vounteer Fire Department. He also worked for Resort Cable and had delivered bottled gas with Joe Catiliz for several years. Mr. Miner was a member of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years and was a member of the New York State National Guard. He was a member of the Saranac Lake Golf Club and was an avid golfer. He was also an avid bowler and participated in the Saturday Night and Tuesday night leagues.
He is survived by a daughter: Darlene Peer and husband Dan of Saranac Lake, a son: Steven Miner and his wife Heidi of West Henrietta, NY, six grandchildren: Nicholas Miner and Caroline Miner both of West Henrietta, NY, and Eamonn Peer, Maeve Peer, Maggie Peer and Emma Peer, all of Saranac Lake, his long-time friend: Kathy Curit of Saranac Lake, a brother: Gordon Miner of Saranac Lake, a sister: Patricia Sawyer and her husband Richard of Lake Clear and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Edward Miner, his mother Freida Durett, two sisters: Catherine Ball and Helen Smith and three brothers: Claude Miner, Dean Miner and Roland Miner. Timothy Paul Paiement, 49, of Tupper Lake, died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 15 at his home. Born on February 26, 1956 in Tupper Lake he was the son of Joeseph and Joyce (Burnell) Paiement. Tim attended Tupper Lake High school and graduated form the Modern School of Welding in Schenectady in 1973. He relocated to the Colorado area where he worked for several years in the mining business. In 1978 he married the former Margaret Carmichael. In 1985 he returned to Tupper Lake and was self employed as a welder/mechanic until retiring with a back injury in 1998. Tim had a passion for music, playing guitar and several other instruments with local area bands. He also had a great fondness for animals. Tim is survived by his wife Peggy, two sons, Sean and his wife Misty of Sidney, NY, Dustin of Old Forge, one daughter Megan of Tupper Lake, two grandchildren, one sister Susan and her husband Jeff Trudeau of Piercefield, three brothers, John of Frisco, CO, Matt and his wife Penny of Tupper Lake, Paul of Tupper Lake and several nieces and nephews. Michael J. Adams, age 52, of 142 Hoel Pond Rd., Saranac Lake, died suddenly Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at his home. Born in Massena, New York on September 27, 1953, he was the son of Merton and Alice (Morgan) Adams. Mike grew up in Massena, NY and graduated from Holy Family High School in 1971. He graduated from Lemoyne University in 1975 with a degree in industrial relations. He moved to Saranac Lake in 1978 as manager of M&L Electric to provide materials and expertise for the construction of the facilities for the 1980 Winter Olympics. After the Olympics he stayed on with M&L which became Twin State Electric and is now Consolidated Electrical Distributors (CED). Mike was elected to the Town of Santa Clara town board in 1983, elected supervisor in 1986, a position he held until his death. He was a member of the Saranac Lake Lions Club and the Tri Lakes Snowmobile Club and was active in Boy Scouting for many years. He especially enjoyed boating and snowmobiling and was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Pamela "Scottie" (Trettel/Logie) Adams, a step-son: Alexander Logie and his wife Nicole of Saranac Lake, three grandchildren: Mason, Madelyn and Sawyer Logie, two brothers and their wives: Robert and Nancy Adams of Massena, NY and Gregg and Nancy Adams of Penfield, NY, six step brothers and sisters, three nephews: James Adams of Heber Springs, AR, Nolan Adams of Penfield, NY and Thomas Adams of Massena, NY and one niece: Allison Stoll of Buffalo, NY. He was preceded in death by his father Merton Adams and his mother Alice Adams. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Thursday, November 17, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral service will take place Friday, November 18, 2005 at 2:00 PM at St. Bernard's Church with Father Jeffrey Hubbard officiating. A reception will follow at Corvo’s restaurant. Harriet McClure, age 77, of 29 Virginia St., Saranac Lake, died Monday, November 14, 2005 at her home. Born in St. Regis Falls, New York on August 12, 1928, she was the daughter of Warren and Mildred (Hollister) Whitman. Mrs McClure attended school in St. Regis Falls and graduated from Moira Hugh School in 1945. She was employed by the American Management Assn. in 1959 as supervisor of registration and retired as the registrar in 1992. She was active in the Business and Professional Womens Club where she held office, was a volunteer at the Visitors Interpretive Center and was an avid golfer and member of the Saranac Lake Golf Club. She was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church where she volunteered for the many Bazaars and Rummage Sales and also assisted in tallying the Sunday collection. Harriet also enjoyed cross country skiing and was an accomplished seamstress. Harriet was married to Ernest Prichard who died in 1983. She married Raymond "Bert" McClure on December 5, 1970. He died December 20, 1987. She is survived by a daughter: Marilyn McClure of Plattsburgh, NY, a son: Thomas Prichard of Puyalup, WA, twostep-daughters: Maryanne Affigne of NY and Charlotte Sperling and her husband Richard, of CT., eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and five nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Warren Whitman, her mother Mildred Hollister Whitman, and her brother William Whitman. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Friday, November 18, 2005 from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 2PM at the funeral home with Reverend Merry Waters, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in St. Regis Falls. Friends wishing to remember Harriet may make memorial contributions to the United Methodist Church or High Peaks Hospice in care of the funeral home.

E. Ann Cavallo, age 81, of 91 Turtle Pond Road, Saranac Lake, died Monday, November 14, 2005 at the Adirondack Medical Center. Born in Ogdensburg, New York on September 28, 1924, she was the daughter of Arthur and Theresa (Doyle) Cole. She married Joseph P. Cavallo, Sr. on August 29, 1955 in St. Bernard's Church. He predeceased her on May 11, 2004. Mrs. Cavallo graduated from the Hepburn School of Nursing in Ogdensburg, NY and later moved to Saranac Lake in the late 1940's to work as an Registered Nurse at the Ray Brook Hospital. She and her husband also owned and operated the Belvedere Restaurant in Saranac Lake for many years. She was an avid gardener. She is survived by two sons Joseph Cavallo Jr. and his fiancee Lillian Duffy of Saranac Lake; Gerard Cavallo and his wife Joanne of Saranac Lake; one daughter Ellen Campion of Jay, NY; three Grandchildren Jay Campion of Jay, NY, Christopher Cavallo and Alyssa Cavallo both of Saranac Lake, NY; one brother Kenneth Cole of Ogdensburg, NY, and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by he father and mother one son Daniel Cavallo, and several brothers and sisters. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:15 AM on Thursday, November 17, 2005 at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Following cremation burial will take place in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
Friends wishing to remember Mrs. Cavallo may make memorial contributions to Saranac Lake Vol. Fire Dept. Rescue Squad in care of the funeral home.
