Robert Hudson Hoak
MILFORD — Mr. Robert Hudson Hoak of Milford died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at his home.

He was born Nov. 3, 1910, in Sterling, Ill., to Harry and Lena Hoak.

Robert lived and worked in Sterling, Ill., as a manager for the Sears Roebuck & Co.

During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corp., returning to Sterling, Ill., and his position with Sears after the war.

He married the late Jean Scuffham in Milford on July 30, 1943, and transferred several times with Sears from Muskegan, Mich., to Grand Rapids and on to Kankakee, Ill. Upon retirement from Sears Roebuck & Co., the couple purchased a farm in Milford and spent eight years farming. Robert also spent several years with The Leatherstocking Corporation (Fenimore House) in Cooperstown.

Robert enjoyed woodworking, canoeing and photography. He was a member of the Grand Malta Masonic Lodge of Grand Rapids, Mich., the Greater Milford Historical Society, the Rotary Club of Milford and the Doubleday Dancers of Cooperstown.

Robert is survived by one daughter, Miss Judy R. Hoak of Sommerville, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Eve Scuffham Smith of Alberta, Canada; two nieces, Pat  Johnson of Alberta, Canada and Betty Stoudt of Springdale, Ark.; and two nephews, Mr. Howard Hicks of Sterling, Ill. and Mr. Millard Hicks of Dixon, Ill.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999,at 2:30 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford, with the Rev. Betsy DelGiacco officiating. Interment will follow in the Westville Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Harriet VanWoert
ONEONTA — Harriet Byard VanWoert, 88, of 5 Ravine Park North, Oneonta, died at home on Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999.

She was born Nov. 30, 1910, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Byard, Jr.

She was married to John L. VanWoert on June 29, 1934, at Oneonta. Mr. VanWoert died in October 1992.

Mrs. VanWoert attended elementary school in Cooperstown. When her family moved to Oneonta in 1923, she attended the Oneonta schools, graduating in 1929. She was very active in many extra-curricular clubs. In 1933, she received a B.A. degree from Elmira College.

In her early married life, she was a tireless volunteer in many organizations: Boy and Girls Scouts, Family Services, PTAs, St. James Church, and especially the Sunday School. On two separate occasions, Mrs. VanWoert served on the Oneonta School Board and was active during the building of the new schools in the district.

She was a communicant of St. James Episcopal Church, a member of the League of Women Voters, the Oneonta Country Club, Citizens Club of Hartwick College, Elmira College Alumni Association and the National Cathedral Association.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Carl Cole of Vermont, a son and daughter-in-law, John David and Judy VanWoert of Las Vegas Nev. and a son, Peter T. VanWoert, of Oneonta; sisters, Beth (Gertrude) Byard Le Beouf of Florida, Frances (Panny) Hill of Florida, Mary Almeda Ness of Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Byard; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harriet was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was dedicated to improving the quality of life locally. It was her desire to leave the greater Oneonta community a better place by her efforts.

A Requiem Mass will be offered at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at Saint James Episcopal Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Canon Mark R. Cole, rector, officiating. Burial of Mrs. VanWoert's cremated remains will immediately follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

There will be no calling hours.

The family has requested that contributions be made to either the memorial fund at St. James Episcopal Church, 305 Main St., Oneonta or the Boy Scouts of America, Route 23, Southside, Oneonta.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Frieda E. Onasch
DELHI — Frieda Emily Onasch, 93, of Delhi, passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 15, 1999, at her home with her family present.

She was born Jan. 10, 1906, in Troy, Mo., the daughter of Fritz and Laura (Ludwig) Wieman. She was predeceased by her younger brother, Edwin, whom she loved very much.

She attended the State Teacher's College at Cape Girardeau, Mo., for two years prior to starting her career in primary education near her home.

Frieda met the Rev. Adolf Carl Onasch, who was a student pastor at her family's church, and they were married October 10, 1935.

Frieda continued with her teaching at Clarksville, Iowa and Pecatonica, Ill., moving with her husband as he served various pastorates. In 1973, one year after retiring from teaching and at the age of 67, Frieda graduated from Rockford College, Ill., with a B.A. in Education. That same year they moved to the Delhi area to be near their son and his family. She was a loving grandmother, and a gentle lady, loved by all who knew her,

Mrs. Onasch is survived by her husband, Carl; her son, Otto Frederick Onasch and daughter-in-law, Barbara, and her three grandchildren, George, Timothy and Emily Onasch. A sister-in-law and her husband in Montana and three nieces and three nephews and their families also survive.

Funeral services will be held at the United Ministry of Delhi at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, with the Rev. Mark Chatterton officiating. Calling hours will precede the service from 11 a.m. until noon. Burial will take place in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

The family request that expressions of sympathy in Mrs. Onasch's memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, or the United Ministry of Delhi.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Dominic Brancatisano
OTEGO — Dominic F. Brancatisano, 77, of Otego, died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Rochester on July 15, 1922.

On August 7, 1976, he married Marion VanBuren Loveland, who died on June 24, 1998.

For a period of 42 years, Dominic was employed by the D&H Railroad and retired as a yardmaster. He was currently working as a security guard at the Homer Folks facility in Oneonta.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Army.

He was a member of the Sixth Ward Athletic Club, and Oneonta American Legion Post 259.

An avid pool player, he played in several local leagues.

Dominic is survived by his children and their spouses, Dominic and Karen Brent, Jr. of Oneonta, the Rev. Robert and Teresa Brent of Salisbury Center, John Brent of Albany, Terri Loveland and Frank Wood of Otego, Dale and Jennifer Loveland of Otego, Marc and Karolee Loveland of Unadilla, Andrew and Teresa Loveland of Oneonta, and Joe and Gail VanBuren of Fallon, Nev.; 19 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Julia Belgiorno of Rochester.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Donna Smithhurst.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Brent, son of the deceased officiating. Burial will follow in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Friends may call Monday evening from 7 to 9 at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Foundation or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Lyle R. Wilson
DELHI — Lyle R. Wilson, 67, of Delhi died peacefully at home among his family after a long illness.

He was born. Oct. 31, 1931, in Walton, to Hobart and Lillian (Williams) Wilson.

He married Elsie B. Burdick, Nov. 30, 1952. She predeceased him May 15, 1998.

He graduated from Walton High School in 1947, and started working for N.E. DHI in 1951. He retired in February 1986, after 36 years of service.

Lyle's handicap was never an inconvenience, as he became an avid fisherman, hunter and golfer among other hobbies,

Lyle was well known in the agricultural community for his sharp wit and a willingness to share his knowledge and a helping hand. He was a longtime member of the Delaware County Holstein Club. He and his wife Elsie became honorary members in 1997. Also in 1997, he was awarded Sportsman of the Year by the Delaware County Federation of Sportsman Club.

Lyle leaves behind four children, Glenn Wilson of Delhi, Steve and Ruthanna Wilson of East Meredith, Lynden Wilson of Roscoe, and Steve and Lucha (Wilson) Collins of Oneonta; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A sister, Lois Ray of Delhi and three brothers, Harley of Fort Wayne, Ind., Arthur of Edison, N.J. and Niles of Walton survive him.

Two brothers, Douglas and Burton predeceased him.

Calling hours are Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, from 6-9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday Aug. 17, 1999, at the Bloomville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will be in Bloomville Cemetery, Bloomville.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Sarah Denny
FRANKLIN — Sarah Isabelle Denny, 93, of Franklin, died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at the Oneonta Nursing Home.

She was born July 5, 1906, in Franklin, the daughter of Edward and Grace (Millspaugh) McIntyre.

She married William H. Denny on August 25, 1926, in Franklin. He died on March 10, 1981.

For a number of years, Mrs. Denny was employed by ECD Bendix from which she retired. Prior to that, she worked for the Franklin Telephone Company. She also owned and operated a restaurant in Franklin, for which she gained area recognition for her homemade pies.

She was a member of the Franklin United Methodist Church and the International Association of Machinists.

Mrs. Denny is survived by her children and their spouses, Walter and Thelma Denny, and William W. and Phyllis Denny of Franklin; her grandchildren, Michael Denny, Arthur Denny, Kathleen and Edwin Pickering and David Denny; her great-grandchildren, Aimee and Shannon Pickering, and Daniella, Christopher, and Ethan Denny. She is also survived by several nieces.

She was predeceased by a sister, Laura Jester.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at 3 p.m. in the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin, with the Rev. Dr. Lyle Linder, pastor of the Franklin United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Friends may call on Tuesday one hour prior to service time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Forrest E. Brenn
STAMFORD — Forrest E. Brenn, 79, of Route 23, Grand Gorge Road, died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

He was born Aug. 13, 1920, in Roxbury, the son of Elton and Lois (Ellis) Brenn.

Forrest was married to Maryalice Penny on Dec. 5, 1945, in Oneonta. Maryalice died Nov. 26, 1998.

Forrest was a lifelong area resident and graduated from the Grand Gorge Central School. For many years he owned and operated a dairy farm. He was a member of the Grand Gorge United Methodist Church. Forrest enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as his hobby woodworking.

Forrest is survived by a sister, Edna Moore of Stamford; a brother-in-law, John Becker of Schoharie; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Charles E. Brenn.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at the Grand Gorge United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Nash, pastor, officiating. The burial will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery in Prattsville.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, Main Street, Grand Gorge at their convenience Tuesday afternoon and evening, the family will be in attendance, from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may be made in Forrest's memory to either the Stamford Baptist Church Bus Fund, 40 Lake St., Stamford, N.Y. 12167, or to the R.A. Robinson Emergency Squad, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Joseph Stock Sr.
GILBOA — Joseph Stock Sr., 64, of Stryker Road, Gilboa, died unexpectedly Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 30, 1934, in Queens, the son of Emil and Josephine (Eda) Stock.

Joe was married to Loretta Mueller on Nov. 7, 1953, in Queens.

He moved to Gilboa from Queens in 1987, and purchased Nickersons Park Campground. Joe was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Stamford.

Joe is survived by his wife, Loretta Stock of Gilboa; a daughter and son-in-law, Catherine and Stan Weredyk; three sons and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Pamela Stock, Joseph Stock Jr. and Gerard Stock, all of Gilboa; grandchildren, Loretta and Beth Weredyk and Nicole Stock, also of Gilboa; a sister, Janet Trezza of Long Island; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, presiding. The burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery at Stamford.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford between 7 and 10 p.m., Tuesday at which time the family will be in attendance.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Joe's memory to either the Conesville or Grand Gorge Rescue Squads.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Albert Tuttle
UNADILLA —Albert Tuttle, 76, of Route 7, Unadilla passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, Aug. 15, 1999, at The Hospital, Sidney.

He was born March 25, 1923, in Livingston Manor. Al was the son of the late Martin and Mary Dunn Tuttle.

On Feb. 17, 1946, he married Ruth Snow in Sidney.

Mr. Tuttle was a veteran of World War II, serving his country with the United States Army. For several years, he was the service manager for Otsego Automotive Inc., Oneonta. Prior to his working in Oneonta, Al was employed for Hotaling Sales and Service, Sidney.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Sidney, Charles L. Jacobi Post No. 183 American Legion, Sidney, and the R.H. Arrandale Post 7914 V.F.W., Sidney.

Albert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Ruth Tuttle of Unadilla; two sons and daughter-in-law, Clement Tuttle of Newport News, Va. and Ronald and Lynn Tuttle of Sidney; daughter, Norma Joslin of Unadilla; four brothers, Clifford Tuttle of Sidney, James Tuttle of Ballston Spa, Theodore Tuttle of Livingston Manor and George Tuttle of Oxford; also four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 18, 1999, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney. Burial will be at the family's plot in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Friends are invited to call after 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 17, 1999, at the funeral chapel. His family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to The Hospital Memorial Fund, 43 Pearl St., Sidney, N.Y., if desired.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.
