Mary Elizabeth Ryan of Rockville, Maryland died on November 9, 2005 at the Wilson Healthcare Center at Asbury Methodist Village after a courageous battle with cancer. Born September 5, 1933 in Troy, New York she was the daughter of Thomas J. and Isabel (Carroll) Ryan. The family moved to Tupper Lake in 1941 where Mr. Ryan was stationed as a State Trooper. Mary graduated from Holy Ghost Academy as valedictorian in 1951. She moved to Syracuse after graduation and over the years received a Masters Degree from Northeastern University in Boston. She worked for General Electric Company for over 35 years in various positions in Syracuse, Florida, Boston, and Virginia and finished her career as a financial manager at the Valley Forge,  Pennsylvania operation retiring in 1993. Mary gave much of her time as a Eucharistic Minister and a volunteer worker at St. Mary’s Church and a member of the Board of the Rockville Senior Center serving as Treasurer. Survivors include one brother Thomas Ryan and his wife Janelle of Melbourne Beach, Florida, and two sisters, Kathleen Mikszan and husband David of Columbia, Maryland and Carol Becker and husband Albert of Tupper Lake. A Funeral Mass will take place at St. Alphonsus Church on Wednesday, November 16 at 11am. The family will receive visitors in the vestibule of the church starting at 10am. Burial will follow in St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the Richer Funeral Home.

Jack Crimmins of Logan Lane, Tupper Lake, died November 9 at the Blossom Health Care Center in Rochester. Until last month, Jack had been cared for at Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake. Born in 1919 in Worcester, Mass., Jack was the son of Dennis P. and Mary H. Crimmins. He was married to Molly Sullivan in 1944 at Fort Devins, Massachusetts. They were married for 61 years when she died on May 9, 2005. Jack served in the U.S. Army on active duty from 1941-1945, stationed in Europe, and in the Army Reserves, retiring as a major. Jack was a food technologist who last worked at Nabisco in New York City. He and Molly moved to Tupper Lake in 1983 from Pound Ridge, NY where Jack played an active role in the Lion's Club and the Ambulance Core. In Tupper Lake, Jack was an avid skier and a member of the TL Ambulance Squad for many years. Jack is survived by four daughters - Eileen Crimmins and Richard Easterlin of Pasadena, CA and Tupper Lake; Sheila Hunter and her husband John of Amherst, Mass; Peggy McNamara and her husband John of Rochester; Sally Vilella and her husband Paulo of Albany; three sons - Dennis Crimmins and wife Jane of Plymouth, Mass; Daniel Crimmins and his wife Jaynie of Cold Spring, NY; and John Crimmins Jr. and his wife Sandra of Memphis, TN; nineteen grandchildren and two great grandsons. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, November 14 at 12 p.m. Burial will take place in the Saratoga National Cemetery on November 25 at 2 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Mercy Healthcare Endowment Fund in care of the Richer Funeral Home.

Patricia A. Ratelle, age 68, of 35 Tara Drive, Saranac Lake, died Friday, November 11, 2005 at Adirondack Medical Center. Born in Rochester, New York on August 28, 1937, she was the daughter of Harry and Beatrice (Nolene) Tatlock. She married Joseph Ratelle, Jr. on June 30, 1956 at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake, NY. She has been a resident of Saranac Lake since 1956 coming from Rochester, NY. She was employed in the Housekeeping department at Gauthiers's Saranac Lake Motor Inn and later for the Burkes Motel for many years. She later worked at the Holiday Inn in Lake Placid for several years until her retirement in 1988. She is survived by her husband Joseph Ratelle, Jr. of Saranac Lake, NY; three children Joseph Ratelle III and his wife Anne of Lake Clear, NY, Katherine Ratelle of Hudson Falls, NY; and Tim Ratelle of Saranac Lake, NY; two grandchildren Danielle VanNortwick of Hudson Falls, NY, and Jason Ratelle of Saranac Lake, NY; three great grandchildren Jason Ratelle of Vermontville, NY, Adriana Armstrong of Hudson Falls, NY, and Jordon Ratelle of Vermontville, NY; three brothers Thomas Tatlock and wife Joan of Clear Water, FL; Tim Tatlock of Rochester, NY; and Lee Tatlock of Rochester, NY, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and one brother Paul Tatlock of Hogansburg. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. Private funeral services will take place at the convenience of the family. Following cremation burial will take place in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake. Mary Louise LaBounty Donaldson, age 92, formerly of Will Rogers Drive, Saranac Lake, and Lake Clear, died Saturday, November 5, 2005 at the Eastern Star Home in Oriskany, NY. Born in Jay, Vermont in 1913, she was the daughter of Mitchell and Bertha (Mayhew) LaBounty. At the age of 16 Mrs. Donaldson was hired as a waitress and worked in the Olympic Arena during the III Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid in 1932. Along with her husband Clifford Donaldson Sr., she owned Donaldson Construction Company of Lake Clear, NY. For many years Mr. & Mrs. Donaldson spent winters at their home in Kissimmee, Florida. Mrs. Donaldson was a member and past matron in 1959, of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Order of the Amaranth. She was a former member of the Saranac Lake Women's Bowling Association. Mrs Donaldson was also an active member of a group of Lake Clear parents who lead the efforts to build a new school in Lake Clear which is today a part of the Saranac Lake School District. She was president of the Lake Clear School Parent Teachers Association from 1957-1964 and was a member of the Lake Clear Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Donaldson married Clifford Donaldson Sr. on January 10, 1933 in Saranac Lake. He died in 1987. She is survived by a son: Clifford Donaldson Jr. and his wife Joan of Saranac Lake, a daughter: Arlene Wozna and her husband Robert of Holland Patent, NY, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 from 6-9PM. An Eastern Star service will be held at 8PM Wednesday with immediate past grand Matron, Betty Crawford, officiating. The funeral service will be held Thursday at 10 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Saranac Lake, with Reverend Joanne  White and Reverend Arthur Goyette concelebrating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery in Paul Smiths.Friends wishing to remember Mrs Donaldson may make memorial contributions in care of the funeral home to the North Country Community College Foundation in support of the nursing program.

Pauline Lena Bashant, 79, of Tupper Lake and Palm Harbor, FL died Friday November 4 at Glens Falls Hospital after a very courageous battle with cancer. She was born in 1925 in Tupper Lake, the daughter of Victor and Lena (Gilligan) Pickering. She grew up attending Faust Elementary School and completed her education at Tupper Lake High School. In 1945, she and Rolland Roy Bashant were married at St. Henry's Church in Long Lake. They made their home and raised their family on  Washington Street in Tupper Lake for 57 years. Mr. Bashant died in 2002. Pauline waitressed at many local establishments for many years. She was an avid seamstress, cook and her favorite pastime was making crafts. Surviving are her four sons, Steve Bashant, Lanny Bashant and his wife Jacqueline, Jesse Bashant and his wife Shawn, all of South Glens Falls and Rodney G. and his wife Linda of Tupper Lake; 14 grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and four sisters and two brothers, many nieces and nephews. Calling hours are at the Richer Funeral Home, Monday November 7 from 2-4 and 7-9. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday morning November 8 at 11 a.m. at the Holy Name Church. Memorial donations may be considered to High Peaks Hospice.

Susan Stevens Dashnaw died peacefully with her family at her side, in her Sentinel Road, Lake Placid home of 62 years on November 5, 2005. She would have turned 97 on November 29. Born in 1908 in Ausable Forks, she was the daughter of James Henry and Elizabeth Thwaits Stevens. She initially worked at the Mirror Lake Inn and later followed her older sisters into the beauty business. She started her first beauty shop in the Malone Building before opening the Wanda Beauty Shop in 1932, in its namesake building. After 56 years in business she retired in 1988. During here career years she and her husband raised their children and owned and operated a bed and breakfast at their home,  White Timbers. Her husband, Delancey F. Dashnaw died in 1975. She is survived by her daughter Beverly Madden Waters and her husband David Waters of New York City; her son F. Rodney Dashnaw and his wife Mary of Phoenix; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters and eleven nieces and nephews. Calling hours will take place Tuesday from 4-8 at Clark's Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 in the Adirondack Community Church. Gordon James Williams, 78, died Wednesday, November 3, 2005 at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid where he had a resident since August, 2002. Gordon Williams was born in Ausable Forks, New York on April 27, 1927, the son of LeGrand and Florence (LeClerc) Williams. He served in the U.S. Navy assigned to the Sea Bees in World War II. On January 2, 1948 he was married to Mildred Norrie at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, four children and their spouses; Michael and Martha Williams of Deerwood, Maryland, Gladys and Jon Barney of Lake Placid, Patti and Scott Osgood of Henniker, New Hampshire, and Karen and Paul Pagano of Pleasant Valley, New York, and sisters Frances Stickle of Plattsburgh, Shirley Whalley and her husband of Sebring, Florida, and brother Richard Williams and his wife of Oakwood, Georgia. Calling hours will be held Friday November 4, 2005 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm at the Clark funeral home in Lake Placid. A funeral service will be held Saturday, November 5, at 10am at the funeral home. Burial will be in North Elba Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests friends to remember Mr. Williams make donations in his memory to Uihlein Mercy Center or the Adirondack Community Church.

Bertha Mae LaRouche, 102, of Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake died Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at the healthcare center. She was born in Tupper Lake on October 30, 1903 the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Provost) Gauthier. She grew up and completed her education in Tupper Lake. On October 29, 1928 she and Earl Arthur LaRouche of St. Regis Falls were married in Tupper Lake. For many years Bertha worked as a practical nurse at the Mercy Hospital. Surviving are grandchildren, Jean-Paul Bergeron II of Jackson, New Jersey, Earl Bergeron and his wife of Clarksburg, New Jersey, and Daniel Bergeron and his wife of Jackson, New Jersey. The family will greet visitors in the entrance of St. Alphonsus Parish beginning at 1pm Friday November 4, 2005. A funeral mass will begin at 2pm Friday. Burial will follow at St. Alphonsus Cemetery. Memorial donations may be considered to Mercy Healthcare Center in care of the Richer Funeral Home.

James Michael “Smedly” Lutz, 54, a resident of Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid passed away Wednesday November 2, 2005 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake after a long battle with kidney disease. He was born in Rochester, New York August 31, 1951 the son of George and Harriet (Luchsinger) Lutz. Mr. Lutz worked as a cook at various restaurants in the Rochester area. James is survived by two sisters, Beverly Lutz of San Mateo, California, and Carol Lutey and her husband of Ontario, New York. There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held at Furnaceville Cemetery in Ontario, New York at the convenience of the family. Donations in his memory may be made to the National Kidney foundation.

Thomas P. Ward II, age 57 of Saranac Lake, died suddenly Tuesday, November 1 at home. Born in Saranac Lake in 1948, he was the son of Daniel F. and Catherine (Williams) Ward. Tom was a 1966 graduated of SLHS and a veteran of Vietnam serving in the Navy Seabees. He worked construction for Torrington in Plattsburgh and later for the Village of Saranac Lake. He worked in the family business, the Thomas P. Ward Real Estate and Insurance Agency, for ten years. In 1979 he opened Saranac Lake Discount Liquor which he has operated for the past 26 years. He was involved in civic affairs and was a Town of Harrietstown Councilman for several years, and a Village of Saranac Lake Trustee. He was a member and former chairman of the Harrietstown Democratic Committee and had been a member of the Village Democratic Committee. Tom was also involved with the Saranac Lake Civic Center and Pee Week Hockey Association and was a member of the American Legion and Saranac Lake Lions Club. Survivors include his wife, the former Susan Boula; a son Thomas O. Ward of Savannah, GA, a daughter Colleen Burnah and her husband Joey of Bloomingdale, two grandchildren, one step-grandchild, two sisters, three brothers, and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will take place Friday, Nov. 4 at the Fortune Keough Funeral Home from 2-4 and 7-9. A mass of Christian burial will take place Saturday, November 5 at 11:15 a.m. St. Bernard’s Church with a reception to follow at the SL Fish and Game Club. Ethel Lyons Scinto, age 90 of Saranac Lake died Tuesday November 1 at her home. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1914, she was the daughter of Martin and Ethel (Simmonite) Lyons. Ethel graduated from Stratford High School in CT in 1933 and attended Bridgeport University. She married Frank J. Scinto in 1934 in Stratford. She became a telegrapher for Western Union in Bridgeport in 1936 for 16 years. She worked for Western Union when she moved to Saranac Lake in 1949. She and her husband Frank owned and operated the Saranac Lake News Co. until Frank’s death in January 1982. Ethel continued to run it until it was sold in 1984. Ethel was involved in numerous groups and organizations including the Catholic Daughters, the Altar and Rosary Society and the St. Bernard’s School Mothers Club, Meals on Wheels, Red Cross, SL Adult Center, Rotary Club and Women’s Civic Chamber. She is survived by a son: Matthew Scinto of Montana, a daughter: Winifred Isham and her husband William of Connecticut, three sisters, two sisters in law, a brother in law, two grandsons, two granddaughters, and other family members. A mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday November 8 at 11:15 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Church. Interment will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Lucille M. Jabaut, age 93, formerly of Neil St., Saranac Lake, died Friday, March 10, 2006 at Meadow Brook Health Care in Plattsburgh. Born in Buffalo, New York on September 1, 1912, she was the daughter of Lina and Rozalia (Barker) Beecher. Mrs. Jabaut married Francis E. Jabaut of May 20, 1960 in Maryland. He died April 18, 1991. Mrs Jabaut had been a resident of Teaneck, NJ for many years before moving to Saranac Lake in 1976. While in Teaneck she had been the office manager for Dr. M.K. Griffel retiring in 1976. She is survived by two sisters-in-law: Margaret Wells of Plattsburgh, NY and Barbara Femia of Albany and many nieces and nephews including Marceline Kavanagh of Plattsburgh. She was preceded in death by her husband Francis, her father Lina Beecher, and her mother Rozalia Barker Beecher. Grave-side services will be held in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Saranac Lake, in May. Theresa M. O'Dell, age 85, of Paul Smiths, NY and formerly of Overlook Apartments, Bloomingdale, died Saturday, March 11, 2006 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born in Paul Smiths, on December 31, 1920, she was the daughter of Frank and Esther (Gonyea) Macy. Mrs. O'Dell was a life-long resident of the area and had recently made her home with her daughter Myra Rabideau in Paul Smiths. She was a past member of the V.F.W. Ladies Aux.. She worked at Will Rogers Hospital, Hotel Saranac, Gabriels Sanitorium, Saranac Lake General Hospital and last, for Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid for 19 years until her retirement in 1991. She was married to Charles W. O'Dell who died December 19, 1979. She is survived by four daughters: Mary Pryce and her husband Allen of Lake Clear, NY, Rosalie Martin of Bloomingdale, NY, Esther O'Dell and her companion Walter of Paul Smiths and Myra Rabideau and her husband Edward of Paul Smiths, two sons: William O'Dell and his wife Mimi of Pinehurst, NC and Charles O'Dell and his wife Judy of Saranac Lake, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Frank Macy, her mother Esther Gonyea Macy, one brother and one sister. Private services will be held. Aranka S Ward, a resident of Uihlein Mercy Center since June 2001, died March 4, 2006. Her son, Béla D Ward, a resident of Ray Brook for 33 years, predeceased her. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Edwina Cormier, and a nephew, Laszlo Nagy of Toronto. Mrs. Ward, born Aranka Schwarzenberger in Budapest, Hungary, May 9th, 1913, was married in Hungary to Norman Ward, an American with whom she danced professionally as a team in many countries of Europe and Asia in the late 30s and early 40s. Mrs. Ward came to the United States in 1945 with the assistance of the American Military Mission in Budapest, after her husband was taken abruptly by the Russian army and died while in captivity. Mrs. Ward lived in New York City upon her arrival in the USA, became an American citizen and worked as a model for many years. In 1987, she moved to the Adirondacks and lived in the care of Mrs. Germaine Miller of the Bloomingdale Road until moving to UMC. Fortune and Keough Funeral Home handled the arrangements for the cremation. Mrs. Ward's remains will be interred in the North Elba Town cemetery in the spring next to the tomb of her mother, Giselle Schwarzenberger. There are no calling hours, but a memorial Mass and a reception will be held for her at a later date.

Charles R. Smith, age 64, of 14 VanBuren St., Saranac Lake, died Friday, March 3, 2006 at the Adirondack Medical Center at Saranac Lake. Born in Saranac Lake on June 6, 1941, he was the son of Stanley and Mildred (Moody) Smith. A life-long resident of Saranac Lake, Charles graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1959. He was employed by Charlie Keough at Keough Marine as a marine mechanic, he later worked for 18 years as a mechanic for Ed Duso at Duso Sales and Service and for 10 years at Young Life Camp retiring in May, 2003. He was a member of the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club, and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and hiking. He also enjoyed woodworking, tinkering and computer games. He was a devoted family man who enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren. He is survived by his wife: the former Judith Bunker, of Saranac Lake. They were married September 17, 1966 at the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake by the Reverend Daniel Partridge. Also surviving are three daughters: Shelly L. Wood and her husband Dana of Saranac Lake, Tara A. Smith of Saranac Lake and Tisha A. Fina and husband Ronald of Roanoke, VA, four grandchildren: Ethan H. Wood and Emma C. Wood of Saranac Lake and Kayla M. Noto and Vincent J. Noto of Roanoke, VA a brother: Stanley M. Smith of Keesville. He was preceded in death by his father Stanley Smith, his mother Mildred Moody, and his brother William Smith. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Monday, March 6, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9PM.. A funeral service will be held March 7, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at the Adirondack Alliance Church., 72 Canaras Ave., Saranac Lake, with Rev. Randy Cross, the pastor, officiating. Ann M. Lewis, age 91, of 76 Will Rogers Drive, Saranac Lake, died Friday,
March 03, 2006 at Adirondack Medical Center. Born in Saranac Lake, New York on March 19, 1914, she was the daughter of Robert and Mary (Tierney) Lewis. Ann graduated from Farmingdale High School, L.I. in 1935 and later attended and graduated from St. Catherine's School of Nursing in Brooklyn in 1938. Following that she worked at the General Hospital of Saranac lake for 3 years as Night Supervisor and then attended St. John's University in Brooklyn graduating in 1946, with a B.S. in Nursing, then attended New York University and graduated in 1955 with a Masters degree in Nursing Education. After receiving her masters she worked for State Education Department for 20 years as a state consultant for the approval of Curriculum Development for Nursing Schools in New York State. Ann retired in 1979 and then returned to Saranac Lake. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court St. Bernard, the Saranac Lake Women's Civic Chamber, New York State Nurses Association, Alumni of St. Catherine and St. Johns University. She was a member of St. Bernard's Church where she served as an Eucharistic Minister, Liturgy Committee, and the church prayer group. She was also founding member of the Resurrection House. She is survived by several cousins including the Martin, Robert and Fred Winderl families all of Saranac Lake; Mrs. Mary Tierney Farinelli and Ann Tierney; two God children Kathleen McMahon of N.J. and Robert Winderl of Saranac Lake. She is also survived by many close friends. She was preceded in death by her father Robert Lewis, her mother Mary Tierney Lewis, and her brother Martin W. Lewis. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Sunday, March 5, 2006 from 2PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM. A Catholic Daughters service will take place on Sunday afternoon at 3:45P pm. A prayer group service will take place Sunday evening at 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:15 am on Monday March 6, 2006 at St. Bernard's Church.,

Lorraine Waterson Garwood, age 77, of 87 Olive St., Saranac Lake, died Sunday, February 26, 2006 at her home. Born in Pine Woods, New York on March 25, 1928, she was the daughter of Oliver and Corrine (Sampier) Waterson. Lorraine worked for New York Telephone from 1945 - 1952. She had been a resident of Saranac Lake since 1946. She is survived by her husband Donn, who she married September 21, 1952, a son: Dale Garwood of Latham, NY, two daughters: Bethany Pelkey of Keene Valley, NY and Judith Sochia of Spencerport, NY, nine grandchildren: Joshua & Megghan Garwood of Latham, NY, Lindsey Pelkey of Watertown, NY, Landon, Dana & Erin Pelkey of Keene Valley, NY and Lauren, Thomas and Kevin Sochia of Spencerport, NY, a brother Dr. Gerald Waterson of Chestertown, MD and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her father Oliver Waterson, her mother Corrine Sampier, and her brother Lawrence Waterson. Private services and burial will be held. Harriet L. Ward, of 30 Greenwood Ave., Lake Placid, died Monday, February 20, 2006 at Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid, NY. Born in Champlain, New York , she was the daughter of Richard and Katherine (Crawford) LaPan. The family moved to Saranac Lake in 1932. Harriet served in the US Navy during WWII from 1944-1946. She married Bernard J. Ward in Hobe Sound, FL on August 9, 1963. She and her husband worked in renowned resort hotels for many years. They returned to Lake Placid in 1983, where she was the secretary at the U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation for eight years. She served in the Navy during World War II having attained the rank of Yeoman third class. She is survived by her husband Bernard J. Ward, of Lake Placid, one brother: James LaPan of Saranac Lake and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Richard LaPan, her mother Katherine Crawford, and her sister Virginia Deyo. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 12 Noon Friday, February 23, 2006 at Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid with Father Patrick O'Reilly officiating. Interment will be in St. Bernards Cemetery, Saranac Lake, in May. Michael J. Palcic, age 65 of Saranac Lake, died Friday, February 17, 2006, following a brief illness. Born in DesMoines, Iowa on March 9, 1940, he was the son of Frank and Eva (Juno) Palcic. He is survived by his wife Sandra of Saranac Lake, three sons, Timothy Palcic of Los Angeles, CA; Joseph Palcic and his wife Christina and their daughter Mariana of Cape Cod, MA; Peter Palcic and his wife Diana Fox of Hamden, CT; one daughter Catherin Ingham and her husband Christopher of Athol, MA; one sister Sandra Schneider and her husband Tim of Granger, IN; two nieces and one nephew Susie, Annie and Michael Schneider. His father and his mother preceded him in death. Mr. Palcic had been a resident of the Saranac Lake area for the past five years. Prior to that he lived on Cape Cod, MA and Los Angeles, CA. He owned and operated Mike's Transmission in Saranac Lake for the past five years until his retirement in 2005. Mr. Palcic was a member of St. Bernard's Church. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, February 23 at St. Bernard's Church. Friends wishing to remember Michael J. Nicholas G. Brown, 67, of Port Charlotte, FL, died Monday February 13 at Bay Pines VA Health Center in Bay Pines FL. Born in Plattsburgh, NY in 1939, he was the son of Alfred and Helen (Julius) Brown. Mr. Brown was an army veteran of Vietnam and became 100 percent disabled while in the service. He was an expert rifleman and was sniper qualified. He made his home in Piercefield before moving to Florida in 1980. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping. Mr. Brown is survived by a son: Jeffrey Brown and wife Terri of Lake Placid, two daughters: Nicole Patterson and husband James of Lake Placid and Annette Brown of Magnolia, NJ, two sisters: Patricia Dalton of Topeka, KS and Darlene Vollertsen of Newark, NJ, three granddaughters: Lindsay Brown, Chelsea Brown and Rhiannon Patterson. He was preceded in death by his father Alfred Brown, his mother Helen Julius, and his sister Gloria Brunette. A graveside service will take place on Friday, May 5, 2006 at 2 p.m. at Gale Cemetery in Gale, NY. Genevieve “Sally” Williams of Tupper Lake died Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. She was born July 28, 1913 in Malone the daughter of Floyd A. and Eva (Fletcher) Hutchins. She was the first woman to graduate from the University of Vermont with a degree in civil engineering in 1936. She was a member of the University of Vermont’s target shooting team and held a first place in the National Rifle Championships. She was married to Arthur L. Williams of Williamstown in 1936 with whom she traveled the world until she returned to settle in Tupper Lake in 1952. She worked into her 80’s as a surveyor and map worker. She had surveyed many local properties with Guy Sylvester and Creighton Fee. She is survived by her two children, Sharon Williams of Tupper Lake and Laird Williams and his wife Carol of Utica, two grandchildren Scott Williams of Boston and Beth Williams and her husband Chris of Baltimore, a brother Floyd J. Hutchins and his wife Jane of Tupper Lake and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two bothers Almonzo and Howard Hutchins. Friends may call on the Richer Funeral Home on Monday, February 20, 2006 from 1 to 2pm. A prayer service will be held at 2pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in May. Memorials may be made to the Tupper Lake Rescue Squad.
