Anna Woodbeck
WORCESTER — Anna Woodbeck, 78, of Worcester, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at her home after a long illness.

She was born on June 26, 1921, in Worcester, the daughter of Anton and Anna (Lepsina) Habinc.

She married Donald Woodbeck on Nov. 21, 1942, in East Worcester.

Anna was a lifelong area resident. She was employed at General Electric in Schenectady and also at Cobel Sportswear in Cobleskill as a seamstress, for many years.

Anna is survived by her husband, Donald Woodbeck of Worcester; son, Gary Woodbeck of Worcester; brother, Larry Habinc of Decatur; sister-in-law, Jeanette Habinc of Worcester; a brother-in-law, Melvin Force of Worcester; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a son, David Woodbeck; a brother, Henry Habinc; and two sisters, Alice Force and Caroline Sablyak.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 17, 1999, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Worcester, with the Rev. George I. Goodwin officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Anna to the Worcester Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 191, Worcester, N.Y. or Worcester Fire Department, Church Street, Worcester, N.Y. 12197.

Funeral arrangements are by the E.J Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Stanley Rusin
COOPERSTOWN — Stanley Rusin, 75, most recently of Cooperstown, died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at The Meadows, where he has resided for the past seven months.

He was born June 10, 1924, in Bryant, the son of Joseph and Mary Rusin.

For more than 24 years, Stan was a caretaker for various estates along Lake Erie. He has been an area resident for about a year, moving here from Angola.

Stan was of the Roman Catholic faith, and a former member of the Angola Moose and VFW.

Stan is survived by two children, Stanley C. Rusin Sr. and his wife, Liz, of Otego and Dorene Gentissi of Pocono, Pa.; a brother and four sisters, Steve Rusin of Eden, Helen Pistella of Hamburg, Florence Masterson of West Seneca, Dolores Calderone of Middleburgh, and Frances Lunderman of Cabot, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was predeceased by two brothers and a grandson.

It was Stan's wishes that there be no formal funeral service, and that his body be donated to the Albany Medical College for the advancement of medical research and education.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Arrangements were made by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Virginia M. Race
Mount Vernon — Virginia M. Race, 84, formerly of Schenevus, died peacefully on Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at St. John's Hospital, Yonkers.

She was born on Nov. 2, 1914, in the Bronx, the daughter of Charles Harold and Edna Matilda (Jacobsen) DeWerth.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Race.

She was a longtime resident of Mount Vernon.

She was a retired IBM executive assistant, where she earned numerous achievement awards.

She passed on as she lived, with grace and dignity. We will forever carry her in our hearts.

Virginia is survived by two children, Ginger A. Mason of Tuckahoe and Stephen Race of Mount Vernon; and three grandchildren, Randy Mason, Gregg Mason and Robert Race

She will be laid to rest on Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at 4 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted by the Rev. William Robert Thompson at the Elk Creek Cemetery, Elk Creek.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Salvation Army, the American Cancer Society or the Wartburg Home, Mount Vernon.

Funeral arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Brianna Perazone
ROXBURY — Brianna Lee Perazone, 15 days old, of Roxbury, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at the Albany Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 30, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, the daughter of Brian Perazone and Ruth Ann Elflein.

Brianna is survived by her parents, Brian and Ruth Ann Perazone of Roxbury; one brother, Brian "Duke" Perazone; three sisters, Lisa Perazone, Kristina "Dina" Perazone and Angela Perazone, all of Roxbury; her paternal grandparents, Edward and Bette Perazone of Roxbury; maternal grandparents, Wm. and Ruth Baker of Roxbury; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, Roxbury, with the Rev. Dr. George Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery, Roxbury.

Calling hours will be Saturday, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Methodist Church, prior to the service.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Agnes M. Butler
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Mrs. Agnes M. Butler, 86, of Cooperstown, died Wednesday evening, Sept. 15, 1999, at Sun Coast Hospital in Largo, Fla.

She was born on Oct. 4, 1912, on Staten Island, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Jennie (Thompson) Merrell.

She married Clyde W. Butler on Oct. 23, 1931, in Cooperstown. Mr. Butler died on Dec. 23, 1976.

After graduating from business school on Staten Island and being employed by AT&T in New York City, she moved upstate to attend Hartwick College. She was later employed by the Otsego County 4-H office and then the Otsego County Department of Social Services. For many years she served as a secretary at the Cooperstown Central School and later at the Clark Foundation Scholarship Office. Upon retirement, she was employed part time at the family business, The Butler Press, Inc.

Mrs. Butler was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, the Otsego-Hartwick Chapter 201, Order of the Eastern Star in Cooperstown, the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital Auxiliary, and at one time was an active member of the Cooperstown Fire Department Auxiliary.

Mrs. Butler is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Richard Olin of Venice, Fla., and Susan and John McCullough of Cazenovia; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard C. and Anita Butler of St. Petersburg, Fla.; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by one sister, Mrs. Ruth M. Spencer (formerly of St. Petersburg, Fla.) who died in 1991.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, with the Rev. Douglas Deer, pastor, and her nephew, the Rev. M. Lee Spencer, co-officiating. Burial will follow in Lakewood Cemetery in Cooperstown.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, from 3 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, when Mrs. Butler's family will be in attendance.

Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, 19 Elm St., Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326 or Cooperstown Fire Department, P.O. Box 1, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Isabel Freehafer
COOPERSTOWN — Isabel Houck Freehafer, 91, of Cooperstown, died Thursday morning, Sept. 16, 1999, at The Meadows.

She was born on Feb. 6, 1908, in Reading, Pa., a daughter of Edgar and Emily (Baer) Houck.

She was married to Edward G. Freehafer on July 7, 1934, in Oley, Pa. Mr. Freehafer died in 1985.

Mrs. Freehafer grew up in Reading and graduated from Reading High School in 1925. In 1929, she graduated from Ursinus College at Collegeville, Pa., with a bachelor's degree in mathematics. While attending Ursinus College she was a member of the Schaff Literary Club, the hiking club and the glee club.

Mrs. Freehafer was employed as a French teacher at Conschohocken High School in  Pennsylvania from 1929 until 1934. Following her marriage, she assisted her husband in his duties as director of the New York Public Library in New York City until his retirement.

A resident of Cooperstown for the past 20 years, Mrs. Freehafer was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown, and will be remembered as an accomplished bridge player, participating in the Clark's Sports Center Bridge Group. She especially enjoyed reading and listening to music.

Mrs. Freehafer is survived by her son, Dr. John G. Freehafer, and his wife, Gail, of Cooperstown; a sister, Mrs. Edith Fetterman of Temple, Pa.; three grandchildren, Peter Baer Freehafer of Cherry Valley, Susan Tracy Freehafer of Durham, N.C., and Lisa Morgan Freehafer of Baltimore, Md.; three great-grandchildren, Alexander Hunt Freehafer and Morgan  Taylor Freehafer of Cherry Valley, and Jacob Frazier Martin of Durham, N.C. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Private services and burial will be in the Charles Evans Hughes Cemetery in Reading, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made to the Friends of Bassett Hospital, 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Eleanor Atkinson
COOPERSTOWN — Eleanor M. Atkinson, 84, formerly of Cooperstown passed away Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, in Florida.

She was born Feb. 27, 1915, in Lee Center, the daughter of Harry D. and Georgianna, (Cavanaugh) Macomber.

She was a member of the Boonville High School, Class of 1933, and became a registered nurse in 1937. She worked in various locations in New York, during her 50 years of nursing. She worked in Crouse Irving Hospital, Syracuse, Utica as private duty and Faxton Hospital, Rome Army Air Base, National Biscuit Co. and St. Mary's, Niagara Falls, a physicians office in Grand Island, and at Bassett.

Eleanor was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Cooperstown, the United Methodist Women, and did Volunteer work at M.I. Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown. For many years she wrote the Thanksgiving Home Notes in the Freeman's Journal, Cooperstown.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Robert Black; two grandsons, Christopher and Scott Black, all of Coconut Creek, Fla.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Harry C. Macomber and Hubert Macomber.

A graveside funeral and committal service will be held on Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at 11 a.m. in the Springfield Center Cemetery, Springfield Center, with the Rev. Jess Hale of the United Methodist Church, Cooperstown, officiating.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Atkinson's memory may be made to the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home, Cooperstown, United Methodist Women, Cooperstown, or the charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Brianna Perazone
ROXBURY — Brianna Lee Perazone, 15 days old, of Roxbury, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at the Albany Medical Center.

She was born Aug. 30, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, the daughter of Brian Perazone and Ruth Ann Elflein.

Gladys B. Decker
ONEONTA — Mrs. Gladys B. Decker, 83, of Oneonta died Thursday evening, Sept. 16, 1999, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born July 3, 1916, in Bridgeport, the daughter of Miles and Clara Thompson Graham.

Gladys married Kenneth M. Decker on April 17, 1943, in Oneonta. He died May 13, 1995.

Gladys was a member of the nursing staff at the former Homer Folks Hospital, Oneonta, for 18 years, retiring in 1973. She has been a resident of Oneonta since 1936 and a member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth M. and Donna Decker of Rensselaerville and Ronald E. and Sherry Decker of Otego; four grandchildren, Kenneth J. Decker and Michael J. Decker, both of Rensselaerville, Heather Lynn and her husband, Sean Coleman, of Bunn Level, N.C., and Cynthia Beth Decker of Otego; and one great-grandchild, Jesse Liam Coleman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

The Rev. Stephen Heiss, pastor of the Elm Park United Methodist Church, Oneonta, will officiate.

Burial will be at the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta, from noon-2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, when the family will be present at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be given to the Otego Fire Department, River Street, Otego, N.Y. 13825 in memory of Gladys B. Decker.

Charles O. Haynes
STAMFORD — Charles O. Haynes, 97, passed away Sept. 17, 1999, at Robinson Terrace, Stamford.

He was born March 8, 1902, in East Meredith, a son of Jesse and Frona Tompkins Haynes.

In 1924, he married Elsie Beebe in Cazenovia. She predeceased him on Feb. 25, 1997. An older sister, Blanche Gibb of Rochester, died recently.

His early life was spent blacksmithing with his father in East Meredith. Thereafter, he built custom-made coaches and built or remodeled several homes in the same area. He had a longtime interest in learning and was well versed in many subjects, especially those relevant to his various occupations and extensive travels.

Charlie was a member and benefactor of the East Meredith Presbyterian Church, East Meredith Cemetery Association, Davenport Historical Society and Oneonta Elks Club. He was active in the restoration of Hanford Mills Museum.

In 1981, he and his wife established the Charles O. and Elsie Haynes Foundation for charitable and educational purposes. The Foundation continues to provide scholarships to Charlotte Valley students.

In 1994, the Hayneses were honored at Cazenovia College with the dedication of the Elsie Beebe and Charles Haynes Learning Resources Center on the campus.

He is survived by a brother, Andrew F. Haynes of Oriskany; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Beebe of Englewood, Fla., and Erieville; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charlie is remembered for his wide interests and ambitious pursuits and his humorous remarks and recollections.

A memorial service will be held at East Meredith Presbyterian Church, East Meredith, on Sunday, Sept. 26, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Tracie Martin officiating.

Virgil A. Knox Sr.
MILFORD — Virgil A. Knox Sr., 84, of Milford, died peacefully early Friday morning, Sept. 17, 1999, in Chesapeake, Va., at the home of his daughter, Regina, who was at his side.

He was born on Oct. 21, 1914, in Brooklyn, a son of Nicholas and Agnes (Cote) Knox.

He married Lillian U. Schreibweiss on Sept. 15, 1937, in New York City. His beloved wife of 48 years died on March 18, 1985.

A World War II veteran, Virgil served his country in the U.S. Navy from Dec. 7, 1941, until Oct. 5, 1945, which included a tour of duty in the Asiatic and Pacific theaters.

Virgil first resided in Copiague, Long Island, and was associated with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as an assistant manager. He later became affiliated with Nationwide Insurance Company, owning and operating an agency in Long Island. In 1970, he and his wife moved to Milford, and he was employed as a certified respiratory therapist at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown until his retirement.

A former member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Lindenhurst, Long Island, Virgil was a communicant of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown for the past 30 years. He was also a fourth-degree Knight of Columbus in the Cardinal Mercier Assembly No. 1166, a founding member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and a member of the Milford American Legion Post No. 1566.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Regina and Robert Rudzik of Chesapeake, Va., and Diane and Gerard Robinson of Milford; two sons and daughters-in-law, Virgil A. Jr. and Dolores Knox of Tucson, Ariz., and Douglas and Anna Knox of Franklin; 14 grandchildren, Stephen Knox of Sweden, Richard Knox and Cheryl (Knox) Foster of Tucson, Ariz., Laura (Knox) Grondin of Gilbert, Ariz., D. Robert Nightingale and Amber Knox of Franklin, Christopher and Joshua Thornhill and Aspen, Nicole, Robert and David Rudzik, all of Chesapeake, Va., and Jason and Christine Robinson of Milford; two great-grandchildren, Casey and Mason Knox of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister-in-law, Marie Knox and her daughter Marie of New Fairfield, Conn.; and one brother-in-law, Walter Schreibweiss and his wife, Charmaine, of Niles, Ill.

He was predeceased by two grandsons, Jared and Garrett Knox, formerly of Franklin, who died March 23, 1989.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown with Father John R. Roos, pastor, officiating. Burial with full military honors accorded by the Milford American Legion Post No. 1566 will follow in the Milford Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Tuesday evening, Sept. 21, 1999, from 7-9 p.m., when Virgil's family will be in attendance.

John E. Baldauf
DELANCEY — John E. Baldauf, 64, at his DeLancey home returned to our Lord on Saturday evening, Sept. 18, 1999, after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born Feb. 15, 1935, in DeLancey, to Emil and Frieda (Roemer) Baldauf.

A 1951 graduate of Downsville Central School, as a young man he worked on the family dairy farm and also did carpentry work. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints (Morman) in Germany, from 1957-1959, where he met Erika Hundt. John and Erika were married on April 5, 1960, and subsequently raised six children.

He was an active dairy farmer until he became ill with Hodgkin's disease in 1988, which he fought. He had been well until December 1998, when he was diagnosed with gastric cancer.

John is survived by his wife of 39 years, Erika Baldauf; and his children, Andrew Baldauf of Sidney, Sonja and Tony Lorrich of Waldorf, Md., Steven Baldauf of Utica, Sharon and Mark Madero of Morris, Kevin and Wendy Baldauf of  White Plains, and Darrell Baldauf, presently in Singapore; as well as seven grandchildren; Heather, Matthew and Nicole Madero, Tony II and Tony III Lorrich, Jesse Jacob and Grace Baldauf. He is also survived by his sister, Hilda Baldauf of Harpursville, a sister-in-law, Patricia Baldauf of Palmyra; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Marlene Baldauf and Herbert and Elka Baldauf, all of DeLancey; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Beth and Ron Hansen of Lewiston, Utah, Susie and Bob Gilham of Riverton, Utah, and Louise and Bill Larchar of Columbus; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother, Paul.

John was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints and held many leadership positions, serving as branch president in Oneonta, from 1962-1968. In 1996, a unit was organized in Delhi and he was again called to be branch president.

He enjoyed hunting, gardening and being with his family and friends.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor and fun, his hay rides and treasure hunts and will be terribly missed by his family and friends.

Friends are invited to call on Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, and the family will be in attendance, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at the Oneonta Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Balmoral Drive, West Oneonta. President Dallas  Jones will officiate and burial will follow in the Hamden Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.
