Burton Henderson
DELHI — Burton H. Henderson, 87, passed away Sept. 25, 1999, at Delaware County Countryside Care in Delhi.

He was born Dec. 11, 1911 in Bovina, the son of Fred and Nellie (Hillson) Henderson. He was married to the late Elizabeth (Archibald) Henderson on April 23, 1932 in Walton.

Two sons, Thomas Henderson of Bainbridge and Allan Henderson, Bovina; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren survive Mr. Henderson. A son, James Henderson, predeceased him in June 1996.

He was a lifelong resident of Bovina Center, a farmer there for 57 years, and was a member of the Bovina Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services will take place today, Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with the Rev. Edward McNulty officiating. Burial will follow at the Bovina Center Cemetery.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Delhi.

Arrangements are with MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Evelyn Ruth Reynolds
ONEONTA — Announcing the passing of our dear mother, Evelyn Ruth (Kohinke) Reynolds, on Sept. 24, 1999, after a long and valiant battle with emphysema and other related complications, at the age of 81.

Evelyn was born on March 4, 1918, in Oneonta's West End, the daughter of Theodore Emil and Anna Hoose (Eckerson) Kohinke, formerly of 410 Chestnut St.

She is survived by her three children, Faith TerBush of Oneonta, Craig Reynolds of Johnson, and John Reynolds (and wife Olinda) of Bountiful, Utah, and nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a viewing with the family on Tuesday, Sept. 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, and memorial services will be held at the Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at 2 p.m. Evelyn and her family would be delighted by your presence.

Ernie VanBuren
EAST WORCESTER — Ernie VanBuren, 26, of East Worcester died Saturday, Sept. 26, 1999 on county Route 39 in the town of Decatur due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born Oct. 13, 1972, in Cooperstown, the son of Freeland (Stub) and Bernice (Shafer) VanBuren.

Ernie was a 1990 graduate of Worcester Central School and attended Hudson Valley Community College in Troy. He enjoyed mechanics and farming.

Ernie was currently employed with Springers in Richfield Springs and has worked on the Bishop Farm in Worcester since high school.

He is survived by his parents, Stub and Bernice VanBuren of East Worcester; two brothers, Rex VanBuren of East Worcester and Kent VanBuren of Delaware; two sisters, Denise McHargue and Shelley VanBuren, both of East Worcester; three nephews, Brandon, Jason and Frank; a niece, Amanda; two grandmothers, Helen VanBuren of East Worcester and Melba Shafer of Richmondville; his good friend, Billy Bishop of Worcester and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999 at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, Worcester, with the Rev. Benny W. Wilkerson, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Worcester in East Worcester, officiating.

Burial will follow at the East Worcester Lower Cemetery on Route 7.

Calling hours will be from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel.

Contributions may be made in memory of Ernie to the Worcester Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 191, Worcester, N.Y. 12197 or the East Worcester Fire Department, P.O. Box 781, East Worcester, N.Y. 12064.

Edwin H. Young
MASONVILLE — Edwin H. Young, 83, of Route 206, Masonville, passed away Friday morning Sept. 24, 1999 at The Hospital, Sidney.

Mr. Young was born July 12, 1916, in Downsville. He was the son of the late John E. and Linda Fuller Young. On Nov. 11, 1944, he married Althema Tripp in Deposit.

Edwin and his wife for several years operated a dairy farm in the town of Masonville. He later worked for BOCES in Trout Creek.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Althema "Tootie' Young of Masonville; a brother and sister-in-law, Thornton and Esther Young of Bainbridge; also several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Everett Young, and his sister, Evelyn Skowronek.

Funeral and Committal services will be held at 2 p.m. today from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. The Rev. Roanne MacEwan, pastor of the First Congregational Church of Sidney, will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.

Friends are invited to call after 11 a.m. today at the funeral chapel. His family will be in attendance from 1 p.m. to the time of his services at 2.

Memorial gifts may be directed to the Masonville Emergency Squad in his name, if desired.

Donald Lennon Jr.
UNADILLA — Donald E. Lennon Jr., 48, went to be forever with his Lord, Sunday evening, Sept. 26, 1999, at his home in Unadilla.

He was born on April 7, 1951, in Buffalo, to Louise (Anderson) and Donald Lennon Sr.

He married Barbara Shupala on July 28, 1973, in Parkerburg, W.Va.

He spent his childhood in the New Berlin area and graduated from the New Berlin Central School. He also graduated from Aleghany College, Meadville, Pa. and received his MBA from Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.

Donald is survived by his wife, Barbara; and his daughter, Colleen Erin, who is attending James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.; and his son, Benjamin Edward at home; his father, Dr. Donald Lennon Sr. of New Berlin; and his brother, Lt. Colonel Peter Lennon of Newport News, Va. He is also survived by two beloved friends, Suzanne Helmer of Evansville, Ind., and Janet Jeffrey of  Johnson City; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Michael Keister and Marjorie and Eric Fredrickson of Ohio; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his mother, Louise Lennon in 1996.

He was an investment broker for the A.G. Edwards in Oneonta.

Donald served on the Unadilla Village Board for one term and then became the mayor of Unadilla from 1996 to 1999.

He was affiliated with Saint Andrews Episcopal Church in New Berlin. He was a member and past president of the local chapter CLU-ChFC. He was also appointed a member of the Board for The Hospital in Sidney.

The funeral will be held at Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Berlin, with the Rev. Charles  Taylor on Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at 2 p.m.

Interment will take place in the Fairview Cemetery in New Berlin.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, Sept. 29, from 2 to 4 in the afternoon and 7 to 9 in the evening at the Dakin Funeral Home in New Berlin.

Don will be sadly missed by his family and a host of friends.

Gifts in Don's memory may be made to Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Berlin, Unadilla Emergency Squad or the Unadilla Fire Department.

Arrangements are by the Dakin Funeral Home in New Berlin.

Elizabeth Aker
SHARON SPRINGS — Mrs. Elizabeth Aker, 76, passed away Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Little Falls Hospital, Little Falls.

She was born March 13, 1923, in Delhi, the daughter of William and Sarah (Epps) Grant.

On Sept. 12, 1948, she married Ray Charles Aker Jr. in Leesville; he survives.

Mrs. Aker worked as a seamstress for the Canajoharie Dress Factory before retiring.

Survivors besides her husband, Ray Charles Aker Jr., of Sharon Springs, include a daughter, Kathleen, and her husband, Daniel West, of Cherry Valley; three sons and their wives, Walter and Judy Aker of Fort Plain, David and Kathy Aker of Nelliston and Edward and Kathy Aker of Sharon Springs; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Esther Majewski of Stroudsburg, Pa., Mrs. Gladys Pierce of Berne and Mrs. Pauline Brown of Sharon Springs; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Alan Miller, pastor of the First Christian Church, South Valley, officiating.

Calling hours will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the funeral home.

Contributions in Mrs. Aker's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Ernie VanBuren
EAST WORCESTER — The funeral service for Ernie VanBuren will be Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester, with the Rev. Benny W. Wilkerson, pastor of the First Baptist Church in East Worcester, officiating.

Burial will follow at the East Worcester Lower Cemetery on Route 7.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Violet Young
ORANGE,  Calif. — Mrs. Violet Young died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at her daughter's home, Shariee Dunn, in Orange,  Calif., following a lengthy illness.

She was married to Clifford Young, who survives her.

She was born Nov. 23, 1922, in Morris, N.Y., to Charles and Annabel Walton. She lived many years in Sidney, N.Y.

Violet had the magic touch that made everyone who came in touch with her feel that they had made a true friend.

One daughter, Shariee Dunn; two sons, Clifford of Apple Valley,  Calif., and Albert of Bellevue, Wash.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild survive her. She is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. James (Mary) Musson of Gilbertsville, N.Y., and Mrs. Ken (Imogene) Hover of Sidney, N.Y.; and two brothers, Charles Walton of Dallas,  Texas, and Richard Walton of Gilbertsville, N.Y.; and is predeceased by a sister, Gertrude Holdrige.

Funeral services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Fairhaven Memorial Park and Mortuary, Santa Ana,  Calif.

Kenneth Mayne
NORWICH — Kenneth H. Mayne, 94, formerly of 118 South Broad St., Norwich, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Hartford. He had been a resident of the Masonic Home in Utica.

Born June 7, 1905, in Burlington Flats, he was the son of Herbert and Bertha (Fitch) Mayne.

He was raised in the Burlington Flats area and was a graduate of Edmeston High School with the Class of 1922. He formerly owned a general store for a short time in West Exeter.

Well-known as an avid sportsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an excellent baseball player in Burlington Flats.

A self-employed carpenter all of his life, he moved to Norwich in 1957.

In October of 1926, he married Dorothy Fauth, who died in 1935. In 1939, he married Maude Whigham, who died in 1955, and on Aug. 10, 1957, he married Cornelia "Connie" Crandall, who passed away on Aug. 28, 1999.

He was a member of the Broad Street United Methodist Church in Norwich and a former member of the First Baptist Church in Burlington Flats. He was a past master of the Edmeston Lodge 553 of the Free and Accepted Masons, a member of the Norwich Lodge 302 F&AM and of the Scottish Rite of Binghamton.

Kenneth is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth G. and Anita Mayne of Burlington Flats and James L. and Jackie Mayne of Edmeston; two stepdaughters, Sharon Shaw and her husband, Robert, of Cicero and Frances Welch of Franklin; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren and a stepgreat-granddaughter; a stepdaughter-in-law, Pearl Whigham of Oneonta; and two sisters, Irene Welch of New Hartford and Norma Dougherty of Fayetteville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Lowell Mayne; and a sister, Lilah Tice.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at 10 a.m. from the First Baptist Church in Burlington Flats. Interment will follow in Burlington Flats Cemetery. Friends are invited to call at the Devine-Wilson Memorial Home on Friday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. Members of the Edmeston and Norwich Masons will conduct memorial services on Friday at 8 p.m.

Contributions in memory of Mr. Mayne may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Ethel E. Beebe
ROXBURY — Mrs. Ethel E. Beebe, 78, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 28, 1999, at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Ethel was born Dec. 18, 1920, in Oneonta, the daughter of Gilbert John and Ethel (Bullis) Wood.

She married Charles M. Beebe on Dec. 26, 1939, in Portlandville. They were married for 36 years, until his death on Nov. 16, 1976.

Ethel grew up in the Oneonta-Otego area and graduated from Otego High School. She retired from Astrocom Electronics in 1980, after 14 years of employment. In 1980, Ethel moved to Roxbury and worked for 1½ years for Audio Sears in Stamford.

Mrs. Beebe is survived by a daughter, Charlotte West of Dannamora; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harry J. and Elaine Beebe of San Diego,  Calif., and Mead F. and Donna Beebe of Endicott; a brother, Marshall J. Wood of Waterloo; and her companion of several years, Mr. Marion Slauson; two grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Joseph A. Fiske officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at West Oneonta Cemetery, West Oneonta. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society, 57 Front St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905-4797 or Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Paul D. Juhl
MIDDLEFIELD — Mr. Paul D. Juhl, 61, passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 25, 1938, in Rockwell, Iowa, the son of Delbert and Arvilla (Fellsman) Juhl.

On July 14, 1962, he married Margaret Elliott in Montrose, Pa., she survives.

Mr. Juhl served in the United States Army in Alaska, from 1956-1958. He worked for the Clark Foundation for 36 years.

He was a member of the Light of the World Christian Fellowship Church, Springfield Center.

Besides his wife, Margaret Juhl of Middlefield; he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Bobbie Juhl of Cooperstown; two daughters and a son-in-law, Debra and Tom Bowen of Cherry Valley and Bonnie Wayman of Cherry Valley; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Robert Juhl of Cherry Valley; two sisters, June Fisco of Willingboro, N.J., and Marge Bowen of Dolgeville; several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by one sister, Betty Bowen in 1996.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

There will be a memorial service held on Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at 3 p.m. in the Light of the World Christian Fellowship Church, Route 20 and Route 80, Springfield Center, with the Rev. Jeff Wilder officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Juhl's memory may be made to the Light of The World Christian Fellowship Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Thaddeus Price
STAMFORD — Thaddeus Price, 74, died at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown on Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999. He was an area resident for 30 years, and formerly of Commack, L.I.

His death follows two months after the death of Helen Price, his wife of 51 years.

Ted was retired from the town of Harpersfield Highway Department, where he served as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Harry Pruden VFW Post No. 6292. Having served honorably in the United States Coast Guard, during World War II.

Ted was a member of Sacred Heart RCC, the Stamford Fire Department and Delaware County Senior Citizens.

He was the loving father and father-in-law of Robert and Marilynn Price of Stamford. Ted is also survived by two nieces.

Friends may call at the William A. Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St. (corner of Liberty ) in Stamford, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart RCC, Stamford.

Interment will follow immediately at the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation of North East New York (NKFNENY) 23 Computer Drive, Albany, N.Y 12205-1134 and the Stamford Fire Department EMS, 111 Main St., Stamford, 12167.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to William A. Tari Funeral Home, Stamford.

Grant Mattice Jr.
NORTH BLENHEIM — Grant Mattice Jr., 58, of North Blenheim Road, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at the Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany.

He was born March 22, 1941, in Blenheim, the son of Grant and Mildred (Stone) Mattice Sr.

He married Laberta McGregor on Aug. 31, 1968, in Flat Creek.

Grant spent most of his life in the Gilboa area. He had been employed by several local businesses in the area: Greendell Packing in Prattsville, Stamford Industries in Stamford, Scotch Valley Ski Center in Stamford, and Catskill Craftsmen in Stamford. He was also self-employed in logging and firewood.

Grant enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Grant is survived by his wife, Laberta Mattice of North Blenheim; a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and David Lee of Conesville; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Grant Mattice III and Richard John Mattice of Stamford and Robert and Patricia Mattice of Hobart; six grandchildren, Tracy Ann, Katherine, Jasmine, David III, Richard and Grant Arthur; two stepgranddaughters, Natashia and Anna; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles and Rosemarie Mattice of Stamford and Chester and Doris Mattice of Summerfield, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Beryl McGregor of Grand Gorge; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 West Main St., Stamford, with the Rev. Elliott Oakes, pastor of the Stamford United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will take place in the Stamford Cemetery in Stamford.

Friends may call at their convenience at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance between 7 and 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Grant's memory to the American Heart Association, Delaware County Branch, P.O. Box 315, Oneonta N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.
