Hudson Cutting Sr.
AFTON — Hudson Grant Cutting Sr. of Afton died on Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at his residence after a long illness.

He was born on Oct. 24, 1920, in Afton, the son of Grant Jacob and Lizziebell (Palmitier) Cutting.

He was a World War II Army Veteran.

He married Josephine Hromada at St. John's Catholic Church in Bainbridge, on Oct. 9, 1948.

He was a life-long resident of the Afton area. Until his retirement he was a custodian in the Afton Central School District.

Hudson is survived by his wife, Josephine Cutting of Afton; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and James Shanks of Bulls Gap, Tenn.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Hudson Cutting Jr. of Afton, Michael and Shirley Cutting of Unadilla, Richard and Mary Cutting of Canandaigua and Steven and Donna Cutting of Afton; 10 grandchildren, Jacob and James Shanks of Bulls Gap, Tenn., Hudson Cutting III of Orlando, Fla., Jennifer Cutting of Charlotte, N.C., Mathew Cutting of Bainbridge, Jessica, Emily and Alan Cutting of Canandaigua, and Nathan and Tessa Cutting of Afton; one great-grandchild, Jaela Graham of Charlotte; a sister, Betty Davis of Walton.

He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Cutting.

The family will receive friends at the Dorothy Memorial Home, 121 Main St., Afton on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral will be held on Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at 10 a.m., with the Rev.  Woods officiating.

Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Afton.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Coventry Emergency Squad.

Arrangements were entrusted to Nick E. Ferrentelli and Arthur N.  Jones and the Dorothy Memorial Homes of Afton and Bainbridge.

Donald D. Sander
DELHI — Donald D. Sander, 72, of Delhi, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born March 10, 1927, in Greenwood, Neb., the son of Wilhelm and Frieda (Werner) Sander.

He married Irene Schwengber in April 1952, in Oneonta. Mrs. Sander survives him as well as a son, Michael, and his wife, Tina, of Holley; a daughter, Karen, and her husband, Stanley Barber, of Davenport; grandchildren, Adrienne, Jennifer, Stephanie and Tiffany Sander, and Jamie and Ginger Barber; one sister and brother-in-law, Frieda and Frank Snyder; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilhelm and Helen Sander and Henry and Freda Sander, all of Delhi; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sander moved to Delhi in 1942, and graduated from South Kortright Central School in 1944.

He farmed for 23 years, drove a school bus for more than 20 years for South Kortright Central School, and developed and operated Pinehaven Campsite.

Memberships included Atonement Lutheran Church, where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent and as a member of the church council, and served on the Kortright Town Board.

A memorial service will take place today at 1:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Arvid Whitmore officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Organ Fund.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Anna Tkaczow
MORRIS — Anna Tkaczow, 78, of Morris, died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at the home of her son, Patrick, in Rochester.

She was born Dec. 16, 1920, in Scranton, Pa., the daughter of Peter and Mary (Lojack) Witkowicz.

She was married to Michael Tkaczow in 1936.

She had been employed in the Morris Central School cafeteria staff as a dishwasher and before that she and her husband operated the family dairy farm.

She had resided in the Butternuts Valley her entire adult life.

She was as member of the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church and was an avid supporter of the Morris Central School activities and programs.

Anna is survived by a son, Patrick Tkaczow, and his wife, Ann, of Rochester; a brother, Emil Witkowicz, and his wife, Katie, of Rochester; and a sister, Wanda Hryniw, and her husband, John, of Sun City West, Ariz. Her grandchildren include, Dianna, Amanda and Cassandra. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at the Holy Cross Church in Morris at 1 p.m., with the Rev. John R. Burns officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Hannah J. Cary
SCHUYLER LAKE — Mrs. Hannah J. Cary, 72, passed away Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born on Feb. 22, 1927, in Cooperstown, the daughter of Burrell and Phyllis (Hand) Root.

She married Kurzon Cary in Richfield Springs; on Feb. 13, 1943, he survives.

She attended school in East Springfield and has lived in Schuyler Lake for the past 27 years.

Survivors besides her husband, Kurzon Cary of Schuyler Lake, include two sons, Rickard K. Cary and his wife, Joan, of Germany and Donald L. Cary and his wife, Darlene, of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Bonnie Barringer. and her husband, Steven, of Richfield Springs; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with Mr. Lyman  Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Springfield Cemetery, Springfield Center.

There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers contributions in Mrs. Cary's memory may be made to the Dialysis Unit of Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Margaret R. Huyler

WALTON — On Oct. 11, 1999, Margaret R. Huyler, wife of Dr. Peter A. Huyler of Walton, lost a tough and courageous battle with cancer, and peacefully passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family.

Peg was born on Nov. 5, 1932, in Toronto, Canada, daughter of Alfred George and Alexandra Smith Rogers. The family moved to Kokomo, Ind., when Peg was 2 years old and from there to Westchester County, where she attended school and graduated from Tuckahoe High School in 1950, as salutatorian. She graduated from Cornell University in 1954, with a bachelor's of science degree in food and nutrition and institutional management.

Peg and Peter were married on Aug. 28, 1954, in Metuchen, N.J., and Peg was employed as a therapeutic dietitian for Tompkins County Memorial Hospital in Ithaca, before moving to Walton in 1956.

Her early years in Walton were devoted to raising their children and helping in the veterinary practice.

A longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Walton, Peg served at various times as trustee, deacon, moderator and church secretary and was a loyal and devoted member of the church choir.

As the children grew up and moved away, Peg returned to college at the State University College at Oneonta and the State University College of Technology at Delhi to fulfill the requirements to become an associate registered dietitian, while also doing private nutritional counseling, working at the Susan Shop in Walton, the Parker House in Delhi and her last place of employment as nutritional coordinator for the Headstart Program of Delaware Opportunities.

Peg was also instrumental in the beginning of the CROP Walk event in Walton. This year's event being held this Sunday, Oct. 17, is being held in her honor.

Peg's family includes Peter, her husband of 45 years; and their children and spouses, Susan and David Bomalaski of San Antonio,  Texas, Louise and James Halley of Lawrenceville Ga., Timothy and Linda Huyler of Fort Myers, Fla., and Duncan and Erica Huyler of Marlboro; in addition to her children the pride and joy of her life were her grandchildren, Nicholas and Rachel Bomalaski, Kathleen and Jeffery Halley, Garrett and Connor Huyler, Todd and Tina Huyler and their children, Peg's great-grandsons, Christopher and Brandon Huyler. Her sister Elizabeth Ann Parillo of Rockport, Mass., and brother A. George Rogers of Westfield, N.J., also provided loving support during Peg's illness.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Margaret R. Huyler will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday evening, Oct. 14, 1999, at the First Congregational Church, 4 Mead St., Walton.

In lieu of flowers the family hopes that memorial contributions in Peg's name will be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or to the First Congregational Church Restoration Fund, 4 Mead St,. Walton N.Y. 13856.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Clark & Winter Funeral Home of Walton, phone 865-4383.

Adelbert L. Austin

NEW BERLIN — Adelbert L. Austin, 62, of New Berlin, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at his home in New Berlin.

He was born on Dec. 30, 1936, in New Berlin, the son of Lewis and Gladys (Benson) Austin.

He married Constance Hardy on May 24, 1959, who survives.

He spent his childhood in New Berlin. He was a graduate of New Berlin Central School.

Adelbert is survived by three daughters and their spouses, Donald Jr. and Shelley Kane of Otego, Chris and Kelly Uyehara of Skaneateles and Daniel and Michelle Senn of Garrattsville; five grandchildren, Allyson, Katelyn, and Traci Uyehara, Emily Kane and Siena Senn; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Mary Jane) Beaumount of Reading, Pa., and Mrs. Elaine Austin and her husband, Phillip Baum, of Lancaster, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a chemical operator for Proctor & Gamble in Norwich, for 38 years. Also drove school bus for New Berlin Central School for 20 years.

He served in the United States Army for two years. He was a member of the New Berlin Sportsman Club, the New Berlin Fish and Game Club and the New Berlin Fire Department.

He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, New Berlin.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at 3 p.m. at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, New Berlin, with the Rev. Charles Taylor, of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, New Berlin, officiating. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the Chenango Area Hospice or the New Berlin Fire Department, New Berlin.

Funeral arrangements are by the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Helen S. Sweeney

SIDNEY — Mrs. Helen S. Sweeney, 95, a resident of the Countryside Care Center, Delhi, and formerly of Sidney, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at her residence in Delhi.

Mrs. Sweeney was born April 19, 1904, in Newark, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Jacob and Ada Blenis Storm.

On Nov. 22, 1930, she married Walter J. Sweeney in Sidney. He predeceased her on Feb. 17, 1968.

Helen was a retired senior accounting clerk for the Amphenol Corp., Sidney.

She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church, Sidney, and a charter member of the Sidney Historical Society. Helen was a volunteer at The Hospital, Sidney.

Helen is survived by her nephew, Fred Storm of Pembroke Pines, Fla.

Funeral and committal services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, from the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, with the Rev. Roanne MacEwan, pastor of the First Congregational Church, Sidney, officiating. Burial will follow cremation in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. till service time at 10 a.m. Friday morning.

Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the First Congregational Church, Sidney, if desired.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Mary Archibald

BOVINA — Mary Archibald, 96, of Bovina, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at the Hearthstone, Hobart, where she resided.

She was born June 21, 1903, in Bovina, the daughter of Thomas and Mabel (Thompson) Archibald.

Miss Archibald was a nurse at O'Connor Hospital, Delhi, for many years. A resident of Bovina all her life, she was the oldest member of the Bovina Presbyterian Church.

Several nephews and nieces survive.

A sister, Elizabeth Henderson, and four brothers, Leonard, George, Marvin and Herman Archibald predeceased her.

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at 3 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with the Rev. Edward McNulty, of the Bovina Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Bovina Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Bovina Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Josephine B. Allen

OLIVEBRIDGE — Josephine B. Allen, 94, of Kelder Road, died Monday at 10 Broeck Commens Nursing Home in Lake Katrine.

She was born July 10, 1905, in Hartwick, the daughter of the late Sidney and Mary Newkirk Bresee.

She was married to the late Arthur Allen, who predeceased her in 1984.

Mrs. Allen had been employed as a nurse at the Ulster County Infirmary before her retirement.

Surviving are dear friends, Harvey Every and Lisa Slovensky. Five nieces and three nephews also survive.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Jean  White on Oct. 18, 1996.

Funeral will be Friday, at 10 a.m. at the H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 Forty Second St., Kerhonkson. Burial will be in Hartwick Cemetery, with the Rev. Julian Morton officiating.

Octavia DeCocker
SIDNEY CENTER — Mrs. Octavia DeCocker went to be with her Lord, Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Countryside Care, Delhi.

Octavia was born on July 14, 1902, in Antwerp, Belgium, the daughter of Alphonse and Anna Vandervoort.

She married William DeCocker Sr. on May 4, 1927, and came to America as a new bride. They shared 66 years of marriage. She became a United States citizen, of which she was proud. She had two children, Lorraine and William Jr.

Mrs. DeCocker was a forelady at Botany Mills, Passaic, N.J., in the 1940s making robes and neckties for the United States Army and Navy. Later, she was a farmer's wife in Andes and Sidney Center.

She and her husband were active in Delaware County Senior Citizens and were honored as Delaware County Senior Citizens of the Year.

She was also a member of the Sidney Center United Methodist Church and felt blessed to have many close friends and wonderful neighbors.

Octavia is survived by her son, William, and daughter-in-law, Sandra DeCocker, of Sidney Center; her son-in-law, Lynn Liddle of DeLancey; her sister-in-law, Leonia Dohran of Michigan; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Bill; her daughter, Lorraine Liddle; and her grandson, Lindy Liddle.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Joyce Funeral Home, Inc., Main Street, Unadilla, with Pastor Donna Joy Schmid officiating. Burial will follow in the Carroll Cemetery, Trout Creek.

The family will receive friends at the Joyce Funeral Home, Inc. on Thursday evening, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Contributions in Mrs. DeCocker's memory may be made to the Sidney Center United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 415, Sidney Center, N.Y. 13839.

Arrangements are by the Joyce Funeral Home, Inc., Unadilla.
