Ralph C. Brazee Sr.
NEW BERLIN — Ralph C. Brazee Sr., (Peanuts), 67, of New Berlin, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, Oct. 13, 1999, in the Chenango Memorial Hospital of Norwich.

A lifelong resident of Chenango County, Ralph had lived for the last 38 years in the New Berlin area.

He was born in Plymouth, grew up in the East Pharsalia/Oxford/McDonough area, attended the country schools in Preston, and, eventually, went to school in Oxford. Once out of school, Ralph went to work on the family farm in East Pharsalia. Later, while living in New Berlin, he worked as a truck driver for Webb and Sons at their New Berlin location. For the past 37 years, Ralph had been employed by the O.W. Hubbell Co. of New Hartford, a manufacturer of guardrails. Most recently, he had worked for Cable Guide Railing, Inc., of New York Mills.

Ralph was a man who liked to tinker, especially restoring old cars, trucks, and tractors.

He was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Plymouth. Ralph was the son of George and Myra (Sisson) Brazee.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Joyce Harris Brazee; his children and their spouses, George and Michele Brazee of New Berlin, Myrna and Frank Simonds of South Berlin, Ralph (Yogi) and Linda Brazee of West Burlington, Kitty and Mike Wilcox of Sherburne, Brad Ray of Hazelton, Pa., Stacey Dixon of Schenevus and Kelley Ray of Worcester; five sisters, Margaret Manwarren of South Plymouth, Mildred Manwarren of Sherburne, Ora Manwarren of Norwich, Doris Monroe of Norwich and Wanda Gregory of New Berlin; and one brother, Richard Brazee of  South Carolina. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and by his loving companion, Betty Beckwith.

Ralph was predeceased by his daughter Anna Plata on July 22, 1996; and by his sisters, Grace Knapp and Daisy Monroe.

Funeral services for Ralph will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home, with the Rev. Beverly Butler, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of New Berlin, officiating. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery of New Berlin. Friends may call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Rome on Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Southern District Office, 57 Front St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905-4704.

Coralyn W. Rose
ONEONTA — Mrs. Coralyn W. Rose, 89, of Oneonta, died Wednesday evening, Oct. 13, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born June 4, 1910, in Bainbridge, the daughter of Harry G. and Fannie (Stevens) Whitney.

Coralyn married Russell E. Rose on June 23, 1934, in Bainbridge. He died Feb. 7, 1999.

Coralyn had been a school teacher for the Oneonta City School District at Mitchell Street, Center Street and Greater Plains Schools for 33 years before her retirement in 1973. Following her retirement, she was a lady assistant at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta for more than 20 years.

Coralyn was a member of the Class of 1931 at the Oneonta Normal School and received her bachelor's of science degree from the State University College at Oneonta in 1956.

She was a member of the New York State Retired Teachers Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, Fox Hospital Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels and Rebekah Circle at the Methodist Church. She also had been an active volunteer for the Red Cross, American Heart Association, and the American Cancer Society at one time. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta and had taught Sunday School for many years.

Coralyn is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Donna R. Donnell of Oneonta and Kristin R. and Jeffrey Wright of Woodbury, N.J.; four grandchildren, Kimberly S. Ryan, Heather K. Layton, Aaron R. Jarrett and Shane D. Jarrett; one great-granddaughter, Jillian R. Ryan; six stepgrandchildren, Stacy, Becky, Carey, Jody, Courtney and Kelly Wright; and several cousins.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. William D. Bouton, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, officiating.

Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta on Friday evening, Oct. 15, 1999, from 7 to 9 p.m., when the family will be present at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Center Street School Library Fund, Center Street Elementary School, Center Street, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Guy H. Shaw
PORT JERVIS — Guy H. Shaw, 86, of Port Jervis, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at Mercy Community Hospital, Port Jervis.

He was born Oct. 9, 1913, in Oneonta, the son of Harry and Mame Shaw.

He married Betty Gorham Shaw, who survives.

He was a retired guidance director for Port Jervis School System, Port Jervis. He was a Port Jervis resident for 45 years.

He was a member and choir member of the Deerpark Reformed Church, Port Jervis, and a veteran of World War II, United States Air Force. He was a former councilman, Second Ward, for the city of Port Jervis, former consistory member of the Deerpark Reformed Church, and member of the Port Jervis Lodge of Elks 645 B.P.O.E. He was a member of the Port Jervis Barber Shop Quartet, coach and time keeper for the junior varsity basketball team, Port Jervis Schools, and a member of Port Jervis Lodge of Masons 328 F&AM.

Mr. Shaw graduated from Albany State Teachers College and New York University with a master's degree in education.

He enjoyed traveling, reading, photography, and playing the piano during his retirement.

Guy's dedication as a guidance counselor can be best described by his own quote upon his retirement in 1972, "I like being close to people. The exciting part is trying to work with individuals and coming up with a solution to the problems. No one knows the answers but you work together to try to advise the individual."

Guy is survived by his wife at home, Betty Gorham Shaw; and one brother, Douglas Shaw of Scotia; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, 154 East Main St., Port Jervis, on Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, 11 a.m., with the Rev. Robert E. Foster officiating.

Interment will be private.

Contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice.

Funeral arrangements are by the Knight-Auchmoody Funeral Home, Port Jervis.

Inga H. Laux
STAMFORD — Inga H. Laux, 87, of 9 Academy St., Stamford, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at her residence.

She was born April 22, 1912, in Germany. She was married to Fred Laux, who predeceased her in 1962.

Inga graduated from high school and vocational school in Germany, before moving to the United States in 1934. Since that time, she had lived in the Stamford area. Over the years, Inga had been employed by Astrocom of Colliersville, Audio Sears and Coffee Dry Cleaners of Stamford.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and the Caring Choir of Stamford. She was also a member of the Stamford-Harpersfield Senior Citizens.

Inga is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Harry and Mary Laux of Cobleskill and Raymond Laux and friend, Joan Meadowcroft, of Stamford; five grandchildren, Denise Palmatier, and Victor, Andrew, Mark and Charles Laux; three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Sydney and Johnathan Christopher Laux; a sister, Irmgard Leupold of Germany; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Stamford, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, presiding. Burial will be held in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 West Main St., Stamford, at their convenience on Friday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Inga's memory to either the R.A. Robinson Emergency Squad, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167 or to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, P.O. Box 80, Delhi, N.Y. 13753.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Dorothy G. Fox
MILFORD — Dorothy G. Fox, 71, of Milford, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare.

Dorothy was born in Brooklyn, on March 14, 1928, a daughter of Joseph and Mary (Grilli) Giuliano.

Dorothy graduated from Seton Hall Patchogue High School in the Class of 1946, after which she attended the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising and upon graduation worked for Lord and Taylor.

She married Thomas Fox in Patchogue on Jan. 20, 1958. Dorothy and her family moved to the Milford area 22 years ago and she has been employed as an assistant librarian at Milford Central School for the past 17 years.

Dorothy devoted her free time to her family and friends along with her love of reading.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 41 years, Thomas Fox; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Patty Blacker and her husband, Gary, of Amityville, Ellen Copley and her husband, David, of Colchester, Vt. and Karen Fox of Natick, Mass.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Stacy Fox of Syracuse, Tim and Emily Fox of Richfield Springs and Tom Fox of Loudenville; six grandchildren, John Blackler, Grace Blackler, William Blackler, Alden Copley, Brendon Copley and Drew Fox; two nephews, Christopher and Michael Supkis; and a sister, Rosemary Supkis of Averille Park.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with Fr. John R. Roos, pastor, officiating.

Calling hours will be on Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, when the family will be in attendance.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Mary E. Lindholm
NEW BERLIN — Mary E. Lindholm, 74, of New Berlin, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, in Cooperstown.

She was born on Oct. 26, 1924, in Prattsville, a daughter of Harry and Edith (Burbans) Dunham.

She married John E. Lindholm on March 23, 1946, in Wood Haven, L.I. He died June 15, 1992.

She spent her childhood in the Pittsfield area, and she attended schools in Morris.

Mary is survived by one son, Paul W. Lindholm of Pittsfield.

She was a switch board operator for Durham Aircraft, L.I. Also was employed by Scintilla and Kraft Foods.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Beverly Butler of the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, officiating. Interment will be in the Fair Lawn Cemetery, Prattsville.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin.

Daniel C. Gerow
SCHENEVUS — Daniel C. Gerow, 50, of Schenevus, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown.

He was born Nov. 7, 1948, in Goshen, son of William Wesley and Anna Elizabeth (Gordon) Gerow.

Daniel has lived in Schenevus for 20 years and was previously from Rockland County.

Daniel is survived by a sister, Shirley Gibbs of Roseville,  Calif.; two brothers, Gerald Gerow Sr. of Walton and Marvin L. Gerow of Chula, Ga.; good friends, Donald Conklin of Schenevus and Tina Conklin and family of  Jefferson; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Herbert F., and a sister Wilma.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the Schenevus Cemetery, Main Street, Schenevus.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made in memory of Daniel to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 272, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155

Funeral arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Jack J. Sapienza
ONEONTA — Jack J. Sapienza, 84, of Oneonta, died Friday morning, Oct. 15, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

He was born Nov. 6, 1914, in Gratteri, Sicily, the son of Santo and Santa (DiMaio) Sapienza.

At the age of 8, Jack moved from Sicily to Cooperstown. He married Rose LaMartina on Oct. 6, 1944, in Oneonta.

Jack spent the year of 1943 in Alaska helping to build the Alkan Highway. He retired from ECD Bendix in 1980 after 21 years of employment. Before that he worked at Lynn Coach and Susquehanna Glass.

An avid golfer, Jack also enjoyed shooting pool and bowling. After his retirement, he and his wife, Rose, spent 16 winters in Wauchula, Fla.

Jack was a member of St. Mary's Church and its Young at Heart group, and while residing in Florida, he was a communicant of St. Michael's Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Sapienza of Oneonta; two daughters and their spouses, Grace and Clifford Barker of Otego and Sandra and Herb Fritsch of Lawrenceville, Ga.; four grandchildren, Jodie Barker of Otego, Gina Sapienza-Kelly and Robin Sapienza of Binghamton and Shaun Sapienza of Ballston Spa; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Jennie Curcio of Cooperstown; one brother, Joseph Sapienza of Dumond, N.J.: along with several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, Santo (Sam) Sapienza in 1992; and a brother, Salvatore (Sam) Sapienza in 1989.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mary's School Building Fund.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Ramona N. Brown
OTEGO — Mrs. Ramona "Nell" Brown, 83, died Friday morning, Oct. 15, 1999, at the Oneonta Nursing Home.

Nell was born April 6, 1916, in Otego, the daughter of Ellery A. and Mabel (Hutchins) Lent.

She married Raymond W. Brown on March 17, 1946, in Otego. They were married for 39 years until his death on Jan. 19, 1984.

Nell was a member of the Wells Bridge Baptist Church and was associated with the Harris Memorial Library in Otego for 50 years as an employee and a longtime volunteer.

She did volunteer work for the American Red Cross many years ago starting during World War II. Nell took a loving and active interest in the lives of her family.

She is survived by a niece, Carolee Byrnes; two nephews, Thomas and Anita Sears and William and Teresa Sears of Otego; eight grand-nieces and nephews, Julia and Kevin Burke of Huntington, Pa., Amanda Byrnes of Enfield, Conn., Megan Byrnes of Otego, Covar Sears of Otego, Ian Sears of Charlestown, S.C., Katherine Sears, Joseph Sears and Gregory Sears of Otego; and one great-grand-niece, Elizabeth Burke.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego. The Rev. Alan C. Hatch, pastor of the Otego Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow at the Otego Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening, 7-9 p.m.

In Nell's memory, donations may be made to the Otego Emergency Squad, Otego, N.Y. 13825.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Carl J. Scherrer
ROXBURY — Carl J. Scherrer, 98 of Roxbury, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

He was born Oct. 27, 1900, in Manhattan, the son of Daniel Scherrer and Maria Kohm.

He was never married.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1943.

He was a retired clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in New York City.

He moved to Roxbury in 1980 and has been a resident of Mountainside since June 1994.

He was a member of the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church and the Ralph S. Ives Jr. American Legion Post 1785 of Roxbury.

He is survived by nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating. Burial will be at the Roxbury Cemetery, Roxbury.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 1-4 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home.

Contributions in memory of Carl can be made to the Memorial Fund of the Jay Gould Memorial Reformed Church of Roxbury.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Eugene C. Potts
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Mr. Eugene C. Potts, 81, passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born May 14, 1918, in Pulaski, the son of Clark F. and Lena B. (Johnson) Potts.

He was a graduate of Pulaski High School and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater. He was married to Anne Dawley who has predeceased him.

Mr. Potts worked for Remington Arms in Ilion before retiring. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by one son, Richard Potts, and his wife, Shirley, of Richfield Springs; one daughter, Ms. Andrea Bouteilla of Lexington, N.C.; two granddaughters, Denise Bouteillea of Lexington, N.C., and Stacey Mayne of Richfield Springs; and two great-grandsons, Cody Jr. and Matthew Mayne.

Mr. Potts was cremated at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

There will be no public services.

Contributions in Mr. Potts memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
