Leonard Armstrong
HARTWICK — Leonard A. Armstrong Sr., 48, of Nersesian Road, Hartwick, died unexpectedly on Friday night, Oct. 15, 1999, at his home.

He was born on April 5, 1951, in Cooperstown, a son of the late Floyd F. and Virginia J. (Gray) Armstrong.

Leonard was raised in the Cooperstown area and graduated from Cooperstown Central School with the Class of 1970. Most recently he was employed as an auto mechanic at Staffin's Auto Repair in Fly Creek.

Leonard served his country with the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Era, and was a member of the Hartwick American Legion Post 1567.

An avid hunter and fisherman, he was a member of the Hartwick Rod and Gun Club and was also active in Boy Scout Troop 72 in Hartwick.

Leonard is survived by his wife, Betty (Telfer) Armstrong of Hartwick; a daughter, Virginia S. Armstrong; and a son, Leonard A. Armstrong Jr., both of Hartwick; two sisters, Mrs. Patricia A. Young of  Pennsylvania and Mrs. Linda K. Rood of Hartwick; three brothers, William John Armstrong of Florida, Floyd F. Armstrong Jr. of New York State, and John Thomas Armstrong of  Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Lin R. Quinlan, co-pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown, officiating. Burial with full military honors accorded by the Hartwick American Legion Post 1567 will follow in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday morning from 10 until service time, when Leonard's family will be in attendance.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Kay H. Becker
MASONVILLE — Kay H. Becker, 53, of Masonville passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at home.

She was born to the late Thomas and Marion Halleran on Sept. 12, 1946, in Sidney.

Kay married Joseph Becker on Nov. 22, 1967, in Unadilla.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, where she taught religious education classes.

Kay is survived by her husband, Joseph Becker of Masonville; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jonathan and Michelle Becker of Enfield, Conn., Nicholas Becker of Masonville and Matthew Becker of Masonville; and one sister, Pat Cunningham of California.

She was predeceased by two sisters, Meredeth and Diane.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held today at Sacred Heart Church, Liberty Street, Sidney, at 1 p.m.

There will be no visitation.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gilead House of Prayer, 1011 State Highway 7, Unadilla.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Clinton C. Collins
STAMFORD — Clinton C. (Splint) Collins, 75, of Stamford died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at home.

He was born Feb. 29, 1924, in Jewett, the son of John and Lillian (Reed) Collins.

He married Rosamond Clark on Aug. 10, 1947, in Stamford.

Surviving are his wife, Rose, at home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Clinton (Terry) and Kandy Collins of Davenport and Scott and Nancy Collins of Salinas,  Calif.; three grandchildren, Rebecca and her husband, Paul Garrison of Davenport, Garrett and Patrick Collins of California; and two nephews, Bruce and Judy Clark of California and Peter and Mary Clark of Cooperstown.

A brother, Harold Collins, and sisters, Evelyn Collins and Ruth Bell, predeceased him.

A veteran of World War II in the United States Army he was wounded in the Battle of Casino, Italy, and awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.

Splint retired after 35 years employment with Bendix in Sidney. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 6292 of Stamford, and member and avid golfer at the Stamford Golf Course.

It was Mr. Collins' wish to be cremated. Graveside services will take place at the convenience of the family at a later date.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Janice F. Eldred
WELLS BRIDGE — Janice F. Eldred, 64, of Wells Bridge passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born to the late Glen and Shirley Ryan DuMond on Jan. 29, 1935, in Meredith.

Janice married Stanley Eldred on March 17, 1973, in Sidney.

She was employed by Amphenol Corp. of Sidney as a supervisor in Scheduling and Planning for over 27 years.

Janice loved ceramics, painting and shopping. She enjoyed singing and playing the guitar. Janice also liked to play golf.

Janice is survived by her husband, Stanley Eldred of Wells Bridge; her son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Pam Burns of Endicott and their children, Stephen and Billy; daughter and her children, Sherry Lee Wessels, Smyrna and Shane Michael Pickwick and Shana Marie Pickwick; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Juan Vaquerizo of Port Orange, Fla. and their children, Alexander and Catherine; brother and a sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Walter DuMond of Oxford; other survivors, Garland Ryan of Unadilla, and Connie Leizear of Unadilla; four dogs, Peanut, Trixie, Kelsey and Bandit; and nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 1 p.m., with the Rev. David Masland, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Sidney, officiating. Friends may call today after noon. The family will be in attendance from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, at the family's convenience.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 315, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Anna May Fuller
SIDNEY — Anna May "Becky" Fuller, 69, of Sidney passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the home of John and Rose Moore, Sidney.

She was born to the late Joseph and Annie Caster Fuller on March 30, 1930, in  Jefferson, Pa.

Becky served her country in the United States Army. Upon entering the service on April 27, 1944, she was sent to Brisbaine, Australia, and was assigned to the Intelligence Section of Gen. MacArthurs Headquarters staff as cryptologist. She was discharged on July 27, 1945. On Sept. 4, 1945, Becky was recalled to active duty, due to the Korean War she remained active until March 1952, when she was discharged at the rank of Technician 4-C.

Becky was the first known woman to be post commander of the V.F.W. in New York state. She was a life member of the V.F.W. Corp. R.H. Arrandale Post 7914, Sidney. A member of the Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post 183, Sidney, for 54 years. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 502, Sidney for more than 50 years.

Becky was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix as a machinist for more than 34 years.

Becky is survived by her devoted friends, John and Rose Moore of Sidney; and nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 11 a.m., with Father Gordon Polenz of Sacred Heart Church in Sidney officiating.

Friends may call Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 9 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Howard W. Teter
WEST DAVENPORT — Howard W. Teter, 64, of West Davenport died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at his residence after a lengthy illness.

He was born on Dec. 23, 1934, in Oneonta. He was the adopted son of Vane and Ellen Teter of Delhi.

He was married to Donna Mayes in 1961. Mrs. Teter died in 1980.

Mr. Teter was a former employee of Bendix Corp of Sidney and was a longtime employee of Astrocom Electronics in Oneonta. He was a graduate of Delaware Academy in Delhi and Wagner Prep School.

Mr. Teter was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Teter is survived by one daughter, Tanya Teter of Lawton, Okla.; his mother, Viola Teter Ogborn of Stamford; two half-brothers, Donald Ogborn of Dexter and David Ogborn of W. Harpersfield; two half-sisters, Beverly Jacobs of  Jefferson and Nancy Coager of Saugerties; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home in Oneonta, with the Rev. Tracy Martin, pastor of the Davenport Presbyterian Church, officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Arthur A. Carney
PITTSFIELD — Arthur A. Carney, 72, of Pittsfield, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999.

He was born March 29, 1927, in Waterville, the son of Thomas and Helena (Crowe) Carney.

Art was a proud veteran who served in the United States Coast Guard, and later in the United States Marine Corps. He was very talented with his hands, and was self-employed as a laborer.

Arthur is survived by his two sisters, Helen Platner of Oriskany, and Ruth Wahl of Syracuse; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

He will be greatly missed.

Art was predeceased by his sister, Virginia Saurhafer, his brothers, William Carney, Thomas Carney, Glen Carney, Edward Carney and John Carney.

Graveside funeral services with military honors will be held on Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Edmeston Union Cemetery, with Fr. John Burns, from the church of the Nativity in Edmeston, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Anna May Fuller
SIDNEY — Anna May "Becky" Fuller, 79, of Sidney, passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the home of John and Rose Moore, Sidney.

Kenneth E. Mott
BAINBRIDGE — Kenneth E. Mott, 83, of Bainbridge, passed away Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton.

He was born March 21, 1916, to Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Lena Mott in Bainbridge.

Ken married Irene B. Epply on May 18, 1939, in Bainbridge. She predeceased him on May 23, 1995.

He was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix until he retired 21 years ago and ran his own refrigeration business, The Igloo. Ken also, with Irene, owned and operated Motts Ceramics on the River Road, Bainbridge. He was also a past lieutenant in the Bainbridge Fire Department.

Ken is survived by his two sons and four daughter-in-laws, Kenneth and Carol Mott of Richford, Alan and Patsy Mott of Coventry, Bonnie Mott of Norwich and Sarah Mott of Coventry; one son-in-law, Louis Paranesi of Franklin Depot; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is predeceased by two sons, Frank and David Mott and a daughter, Eileen Paranesi. Ken is also predeceased by six brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Jim Willard of the First Congregational Church of Berkshire, officiating. Friends may call Tuesday, Oct. 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Coventry Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Jeanette C. Vanderlip
UNADILLA — Jeanette C. Vanderlip, 77, of Unadilla, went to be with her Lord, Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at The Hospital, Sidney.

Jeanette is survived by her husband, Harry R. Vanderlip of Unadilla; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Martha Lou Vanderlip of Unadilla and Keith and Donalda Vanderlip of Henrietta; a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and James Pellicano of Owego; also 11 grandchildren; five great-granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was a generous and caring friend to many.

At Jeanette's request, there will be a private memorial service, with no calling hours.

Donations in her memory may be made to the Unadilla Emergency Squad or the Unadilla RDC in care of Steve Geer, P.O. Box 142, Unadilla, N.Y. 13849.

Arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Myrtle F. Angell
UTICA — Mrs. Myrtle F. Angell, 90, formerly of Richfield Springs, died late Sunday evening, Oct. 17, 1999, at the Loretto Center in Utica.

Mrs. Angell was born Aug. 1, 1909, in Springfield Center, a daughter of John and Grace (Whyland) Kane.

She married Arthur E. Angell on Aug. 24, 1933, in New Berlin. Mr. Angell died in August 1985.

Mrs. Angell grew up in Springfield Center and graduated from the Springfield Center High School. A dedicated homemaker, she had also lived in Cherry Valley, Milford and Madison.

She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed crocheting.

Mrs. Angell is survived by three sons, Ronald Angell of Remsen, Charles Angell of Waterville and Warren Angell of Utica; five daughters, MaryLou Hutchings of Madison, Ruth Angell of the state of Maryland, Margaret Angell of Oriskany Falls, Helen Tuckey of Norwich and Sarah Preston of Otego; one sister, Flossie Yerdon of Cherry Valley; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley and Harry Kane, and two sisters, Beatrice Ames and Eloise Shaw.

Graveside and committal services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery with the Rev. William Kuhn, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Mount Upton, officiating.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow and Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Rudolf J. Dedek
WORCESTER — Rudolf Joseph Dedek, 93, of Worcester died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

He was born July 18, 1906, in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of Rudolf Dedek and Frances (Stradijot) Dedek Gergich.

He married Mary Gergich on Feb. 28, 1928, in Worcester. She predeceased him on June 1, 1986.

Mr. Dedek came to the area in 1921. He owned and operated a farm on Algerine Hill Road in East Worcester and then worked at the Sheffield Farms Creamery in East Worcester. From 1940 to 1961, he was employed with the D&H Railroad as a trackman.

Mr. Dedek was a member of the Solvenian National Benefit Society (SNPJ) since 1928.

He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Anthony (Anne) Hren of Decatur, Mrs. Kenneth (Sofran) Bengtson of Worcester and Mrs. James (Janet) Dell'Olio of Central Valley; a son, Dennis, and his wife, Arleen Dedek, of Worcester; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Justus Gergich of California and William Gergich of Florida; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sisters, Frances Penksa and Mary Pirnat Harrington, and a brother, Emil Vincent Dedek.

A Funeral Liturgy Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, 1999, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding, pastor of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Worcester, officiating.

Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Worcester. Calling hours will be on Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1999, from 7-9 p.m. at the funeral chapel.

Contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Dedek to the Worcester Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 191, Worcester, N.Y. 12197.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.
