Teofilo Manzanero
STAMFORD — Dr. Teofilo M. "Phil" Manzanero, 72, of 16 Prospect St., Stamford, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at M.I. Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born Dec. 28, 1926 at San Pablo City, Philippines, the son of Dr. Fortunato and Aurora (Maloles) Manzanero.

Phil was married to Ann Marie Adams on Feb. 4, 1961, at Cheektowaga.

He was a member of the Philippine Underground and later affiliated with the 11th Airborne Division of the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant. Phil saw action during the liberation of the Philippines in early 1945.

He graduated from the University of the Philippines, College of Medicine in 1951. He completed a four-year surgical residency at the Allied Hospitals of the Sisters of Charity in Buffalo in 1959. He had further surgical residencies at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Center for Cancer in New York City during 1959 and 1960 and a thoracic surgery residency at Homer Folks Hospital in Oneonta from 1960-1962. In 1964, Phil moved to Stamford from Oneonta and in 1965, he became chief of surgery at the Stamford Community Hospital until 1987.

Phil's professional association members include the American Medical Association, the New York State Medical Society, the New York State Society of Surgeons, the Society of Philippine Surgeons in America, member and past president of the Stamford Community Hospital Medical Staff and member and past president of the Delaware County Medical Society.

Phil was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church and the Stamford Rotary Club from 1965 until 1989. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman.

Phil is survived by his wife, Ann Marie Manzanero of Stamford; sons and daughters-in-law, Anthony and Mary Manzanero of West Oneonta, Paul Manzanero of Esperance, Dr. Philip and Lea Manzanero of Cleveland, Ohio, and Michael Manzanero of Stamford; grandchildren, Casey and Cody Manzanero of West Oneonta; a sister and brother-in-law, Lourdes and Benjamin Estrellado of the Philippines; sisters-in-law, Erlinda Manzanero of the Philippines, Karen and Richard Beck of Darien Center and Hope  Johnson of Corfu; and a brother-in-law, N. Ray and Judy Adams of Alden. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Phil was predeceased by brothers, Dr. Fourtunato Manzanero Jr., and Antonio and Alberto Benito Manzanero.

A funeral Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at the Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, presiding. The burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.

Friends may call Monday afternoon and evening at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford. The family will be in attendance between 7 and 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Phil's memory to either the Sacred Heart Church, 27 Harper St., Stamford, N.Y. 12167; the SVIA, P.O. Box 204, Stamford; or to the R.A. Robinson Emergency Squad, 111 Main St., Stamford.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford-Grand Gorge.

Joyce J. Gannon
DELHI — Joyce J. Gannon, 51, of Delhi, died Saturday afternoon, Oct. 30, 1999, shortly after arrival at O'Connor Hospital, Delhi, following an illness of several months.

She was born Dec. 5, 1947, in The Bronx, the daughter of Bert C. and Jeanette (Hedrich) Nessel.

Joyce grew up in Plainview where she graduated high school in 1965 and married John M. Gannon on May 8, 1971.

After their marriage, the Gannons lived in Levittown, until moving to Delhi in 1983.

Well known in the community, Joyce had been employed as a secretary for Catskill Area Hospice and subsequently, for the past three years was deputy Delhi Village Clerk.

She was a communicant of St. Peter's R.C. Church, Delhi.

Surviving are her husband of 28 years, John M. Gannon; a daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Peter Bauman of Schenectady; her parents, Bert and Jeanette Nessel, a sister and brother-in-law, JoAnne and James Tauchen, all of Delhi; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to call on Monday and Tuesday evening when the family will be in attendance from 7-9 p.m. at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi. A vigil service will be on Tuesday evening.

The funeral mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at St. Peter's Church with the Rev. Fr. Joseph Manerowski, pastor, presiding.

Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

George Redden Sr.
ANDES — George C. Redden Sr. died Oct. 30 at home in Andes in the company of his family. He was 81.

George was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Albany, the son of Curtis Palmer and Alice Mallory Redden.

He married Louise Mould on Aug. 24, 1947, at St. Mary's in Oneonta.

After graduating from high school at Newburgh Free Academy in 1937, he received his bachelor's of science degree in business administration in 1942 at Hartwick College in Oneonta and then his master's of science in business education at SUNY at Albany in 1948. George played football both in high school and at Hartwick.

George was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Force's 413 Bomb Squadron 1942-1945 as an airplane crew chief on B-17 Bombers in England.

He taught business at Andes Central School for 33 years and was also vice principal plus coached football and track. George also served as trustee on the Andes Village Board for many years.

He was a member of James D. Calhoun Post 200 Andes American Legion, Andes Community Men's Club, Andes Senior Citizens Organization, Andes Society for History and Culture and an active member of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, Andes. His hobbies were camping, fishing, golf, photography and traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Louise of Andes; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Wendy Redden of Andes; son, Dan Redden of Andes; daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Gerald Wright of Bovina; two grandsons, Matthew and Lucas Wright of Bovina; a niece and her husband, Joan and Ken McDermott of Newburgh; a brother-in-law, Charles Mould of Westford; and several nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the Sacred Heart R.C. Church in Margaretville at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Manerowski as celebrant.

Burial will follow in Andes Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Jester-Stanley Funeral Home, Andes on Tuesday, where the family will be in attendance from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Contributions to the Andes Emergency Squad in the name of George Redden Sr. will be appreciated.

Arrangements are by Jester-Stanley Funeral Home in Andes.

William Richards
MOUNT UPTON — William F. Richards, 79, of Mount Upton, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, at Bassett Hospital, Cobleskill.

He was born to Frank M. and Minnie (House) Richards on Oct. 13, 1920, in Burlington.

Mr. Richards served his country from 1942-1945 in World War II. He was discharged from the Medical Detachment of the 86th Mt. Infantry. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.

He married Juna Adams on Nov. 9, 1946, in Morris.

Mr. Richards was employed at the Manor House Farms after leaving the service. He later worked at the Otsego County Highway Department, Curtis Feed Store and the Department of Environmental Conservation where he retired in 1979, while managing the Sawmill at Camp Pharsalia.

He is survived by his wife, Juna of Mount Upton; one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Dorothy Richards of Saugerties; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Ralph Hinkley of Mesa, Ariz., and Kathyann and Richard Weisensee of Sharon Springs; a brother, Ralph Richards of Mount Upton; five sisters, Eliza Baker of Hartwick, Isabel Smith of Gilbertsville, Dora Osborn of Gilbertsville, Minnie Pope of Gilbertsville and Viola Harrington of New Berlin; six grandchildren, Jennifer and Kevin Richards, Tracey Hinkley, Teresa Van Roekel and William and Bethany McCumber; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 11 a.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Pastor Mary Ann Linder of the United Methodist Church of Mount Upton will officiate.

Friends may call Monday, Nov. 1. The family will be in attendance from 7-9 p.m.

Burial will be in Hillington Cemetery, Morris

Memorial contributions may be made the Coronary Care Unit, The Hospital, Sidney.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Alberta Miller
ROTTERDAM — Alberta Ethel Cleveland Miller, 74, of Rotterdam died Tuesday at her residence.

Born in Bloomville, she was married at the Main Street Baptist Church in Oneonta on Oct. 27, 1949, to Ellsworth William Miller of Schenevus who predeceased her on April 5, 1992.

Alberta was a graduate of Franklin Central School, Franklin, and the New York State Agricultural and Technical Institute, Delhi, and had been employed by Bramley Insurance Agency, Delhi; the late attorney George Dickson, Oneonta, Oneonta Sales Company, Oneonta, and General Electric Corporate Audit Staff, Schenectady, retiring in September 1983 after 28 years and three months with GECAS.

Alberta had been a resident of Schenectady since January 1950, where she was a member of Christ Community Church of Carman, Schenectady, actively participating in the music and varied other programs of the church. She was also a member of the General Electric Quarter Century Club.

She was predeceased by a sister, Beatrice Ruth Hamilton; two brothers, Fred B. Cleveland and Ralph L. Louden Sr.; a nephew, and great nephew; a niece and great niece; four brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law.

She is survived by a brother-in-law and his wife, Perry and Delores Miller of Stamford and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, at the Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St., Schenectady. Pastor Carlton K. Walker of Christ Community Church of Carman will officiate.

Burial will be in Schenevus Cemetery at a later date.

There will be no calling hours.

Electa Luella Roe
HARTWICK — Mrs. Electa Luella Roe, 68, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999.

She was born July 24, 1931, in Oneonta, a daughter of Floyd E. and Dorothy I. (Darlymple) Ostrander.

Electa attended local schools and graduated from Worcester High School.

Electa married Lester J. Roe on Jan. 19, 1948.

She was a resident of the Hartwick area for many years.

Electa devoted herself to her family, but enjoyed fishing and crocheting as well.

She is survived by her seven daughters and their spouses, Joann and Art Montramarro, Virginia and Dave Elliot, Lenora and Raymond Woodbeck, Nellie Loomis, Cathy and Carlton Woodbeck, Electa and Wayne Boyles and Bonnie and James Morse; three sons and their spouses, Leslie and Judy Roe, Arnold and Jean Roe and Robert Roe; 36 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a brother, David Ostrander.

She was predeceased by her husband, Lester Roe, who died July 11, 1993; and a brother, James Ostrander.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at 1 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown with the Rev. Phillip Sell, pastor of the Hartwick Baptist Church, officiating.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown from 5-8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Burial will be in the Hartwick Cemetery following the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc. at 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Rachel I. Muschett
LARGO, Fla. — Rachel Inez Muschett, 83, of Largo, Florida, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Sun Coast Hospital in Largo.

Mrs. Muschett was born on Dec. 21, 1915, in East Meredith, a daughter of Leon L. and Eva (Sprague) Hunt.

She married Wilbury R. Muschett in 1942 in the East Meredith Presbyterian Church.

She graduated from Bergen Junior College in Teaneck, N.J., and attended New York University. She was employed as a lab technician at Lederle Labs in Pearl River and then worked for many years for Burrells, Livingston, N.J., as a reader editor, until they retired to Largo, Fla.

She is survived by her husband, Wilbury, of Drew Village Rehab and Nursing Center, Largo; her two sons and their wives, James and Penny Muschett of Blue Bell, Pa., and Richard and Brenda Muschett of Versailles, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jim Muschett and his wife, Wendy, of Fairfield, Conn., Kathryn Muschett of Blue Bell, Pa., and Rachel Muschett and Andrea Muschett of Las Cruces, N.M.; one great-grandchild, Draven Muschett of New Mexico; her mother, Eva Hunt of Oneonta; her sister and her husband, Jane and Garret Huyer of Oneonta; her sister-in-law, Catherine Hunt Boland of Garden Grove,  Calif.; a sister-in-law, Elsie Muschett Olander of Largo, Fla.; many cousins from the Oneonta area; many nieces and nephews, and her faithful friends, Hap and Muriel Waugh and Mary Kay Terell of Largo.

She was predeceased by her father, Leon L. Hunt; and her brother, Leon (Lee) Hunt Jr.

Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family in the East Meredith Presbyterian Church.

Barbara M. Hoyt
WALTON — Barbara M. Hoyt, 66, of RD 1, Box 116, Route 10, Walton, died Saturday morning, Oct. 30, 1999 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on Aug. 22, 1933, in Downsville to Lester and Mabel (Croop) Caffery.

She married Bruce D. Hoyt on Jan. 1, 1952. He survives her at home.

She was a retired nutrition aide with the Delaware County Cooperative Extension, and was well-known for the many wedding and birthday cakes she baked. She was also a member and elder of the West Delhi United Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce D. Hoyt of Walton; four children, Linda D. Hoyt and her husband Kurt VanNess of Dryden, James D. and Patricia Hoyt of Walton, Lester J. (Joseph) Hoyt of Walton and Victoria Kilpatrick of Walton; five grandchildren, one great-grandchild; her mother, Mabel and James N. Briggs of Sherman, Pa.; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Lester and Bernice Caffery of Bennettsville, Bud and Helen Caffery of Walton and Victor and Patricia Caffery of Walton, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999 at 1 p.m. at the West Delhi United Presbyterian Church. Enid Carter, commissioned lay pastor, will officiate.

Burial will be in West Delhi Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Lyon Bros.-Way Inc. Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton, this evening from 7-9.

Gordon W. Badeau
SIDNEY — Gordon W. Badeau, 83, of Sidney passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, at The Hospital Sidney.

He was born to the late Jay and Shirley (Williams) Badeau on July 15, 1916, in Sidney.

Gordon served his country in the United States Navy from 1942-1945 during World War II.

He married Lillian Hoegger in 1945 in Sidney. She predeceased him on March 18, 1985.

Gordon was a member of the Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post 183, Sidney, the VFW Corp. R.H. Arrandale Post 7914, Sidney, The Loyal Order of the Moose 277, Sidney and the Lodge of the Elks 2175, Sidney.

He was a life member of the IAM &AW and a member the Sidney Golf and Country Club. Gordon was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix from 1949 until he retired as a toolmaker in 1981.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Susan Badeau of Camillus, two grandchildren, Jeffrey Badeau and his wife, Merritt, of Solvay and Nicole Badeau and David of Liverpool; three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Abigail and Cassandra as well as several cousins and an aunt.

Gordon was predeceased by his friend Helen Chambers and is survived by her family.

Friends may call Tuesday, Nov. 2. The family will be in attendance from 5-8 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Funeral and committal services will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad or Catskill Area Hospice.

Michael Jones
GROVENORS CORNERS — Michael "Tony" Jones, 17, formerly of Grovenors Corners, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at his family's home in Bristol, Tenn., after fighting a long battle with cancer.

Mr.  Jones was born Jan. 7, 1982, and had attended schools in the Cobleskill School district until moving to Bristol in 1996. There he attended the Central High School of Bristol.

While living in Tennessee, Tony, was employed at the Bristol Motor Speedway. He was an avid motorcyclist and had a true zest for life.

At the age of 10, Tony saved his brother, Gabriel, from a near drowning accident.

He was a beloved son, brother, and friend.

In March of this year, Tony had the pleasure of being the recipient of a trip to Disney Land, sponsored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Survivors include his parents, Charles and Jean  Jones of Bristol, Tenn.; nine sisters, Debbie Jean Boucher of Bristol, Tenn., Mary  Jones of Bristol, Tenn., Melissa  Jones of Bristol, Tenn., Heather  Jones of Bristol, Tenn., Debra Sisson of Fultonville, N.Y., Jennifer  Jones of  Jefferson, N.Y., Tina Stannard of  Jefferson, N.Y., Cheryl Russell of New Milford, Conn., and Patricia Cable of New Milford, Conn.; three stepsisters, Marie Murway of Schenectady, N.Y., Rose Hunter of Schenectady, N.Y., and Geraldine  Jones of Schenectady, N.Y.; three brothers, Gabriel  Jones of Bristol, Tenn., Marcell Boucher of Utica, N.Y., and Dennis Cumming of New Milford, Conn.; two stepbrothers, Ray  Jones of Schenectady, N.Y., and Kenny  Jones of Schenectady, N.Y.; and several nieces, nephews, brothers- and sister-in-laws.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill. Officiating will be the Rev. Scott Thompson of the Wesleyan Church in Cobleskill. Burial will be in the Grovenor's Corners Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4. The family will be in attendance during the evening calling hours.

Loretta Burkich
INDIAN LAKE — Loretta Doenges Burkich, 65, of Indian Lake, died Monday evening, Oct. 25, 1999, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Delhi, a daughter of the late Albert and Ida (Quinn) Doenges.

Loretta graduated from Delaware Academy, Delhi, Potsdam Crane School of Music with a bachelor's degree and College of St. Rose with a master's and St. John's School of Law.

She was a member of St. James Episcopal Church in Lake George.

Loretta is survived by her former husband, Alexander Burkich; her daughters, Amy and Kit Burkich of Glens Falls; a son, Robert Burkich of Chattanooga, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, William and Alexander Burrell, Nicholas Boyle of Glens Falls and Catherine, Alexandra, Robert Jr. and Christopher Burkich of Chattanooga, Tenn.; two sisters, Sylvia Newkerk of DeLancey and Susan Waring of Saratoga; two brothers, Richard Doenges of Leonardsville and Stephen Doenges of Delhi; and several nieces and nephews.

Loretta was a prominent attorney in Glens Falls, town attorney for Indian Lake and a pioneer in the legal community who founded the Queensbury Center for Divorce and Family Mediation. She was a law guardian for Warren and Hamilton County children. She was also a member of the Warren County Bar Association.

She played the viola in the Glens Falls Symphony Orchestra.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at St. James Episcopal Church in Lake George.

Memorial donations may be made to St. James Episcopal Church, Lake George or Hospice of Warren County, Glens Falls.
