Alan D. Larsen
ONEONTA — Alan D. Larsen, 42, of Oneonta, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999, at A.O. Fox Hospital.

He was born Sept. 20, 1957, in Oneonta.

He spent his childhood in Gilbertsville and graduated from Gilbertsville Central School in 1976. He graduated from the State University College at Oneonta with a bachelor's of arts in 1980.

After working in Fair Haven, N.J., as a potter for Born in the Morning Pottery, he was a silk screen printer in Land O'Lakes, Fla. Most recently, he has been working at the First Baptist Church in Oneonta, which he also attended.

Alan is survived by his mother, Jean F. Larsen of Oneonta; his close companion, Rose Stilson; his sister, Barbara (Mr. and Mrs. Michael Hill) of Gilbertsville; a brother and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Larsen of Gilbertsville; an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bridger of Cooperstown and Zephyrhills, Fla.; an uncle, Thomas Erickson of Great Barrington, Mass.; and seven nieces and nephews and several cousins.

He was predeceased by his father, Kenneth F. Larsen in 1962.

Services for Alan will be at the First Baptist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at 1 p.m., with Pastor Lois Yeagle attending.

Private services will be held later at the discretion of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Crohns and Colitis Foundation, 386 Park Avenue South, New York, N.Y. 10016-8804 or the First Baptist Church of Oneonta.

Earl E. Werkheiser
STAMFORD — Earl E. Werkheiser, 54, of 10 Country Knolls Trailer Park, Stamford, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 12, 1944, in Tucson, Ariz., the son of Mathias and Helen (Sheldon) Werkheiser.

Earl lived in the  Jefferson-Stamford area for the past eight years moving there from Port  Jefferson. He was a construction laborer all his life. Most recently he was employed at the Peach Tree Cafe in Stamford as a dishwasher.

Earl is survived by a daughter, Jill Werkheiser of Port  Jefferson; a son, Billy Werkheiser of Port  Jefferson; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Matty and Eleanor Werkheiser of  Jefferson and Bruce Werkheiser of Medford; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford. Burial will be held at a later time in Long Island.

Memorial contributions may be made in Earl's memory to the R.A. Robinson Emergency Squad, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Raymond B. Shaw
HAMDEN — Raymond B. Shaw, 78, of Hamden, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, at Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

He was born in Hamden on Oct. 12, 1921, the son of Henry and Nellie (Gray) Shaw.

He had been a resident of this community his entire lifetime.

He was married to Frances L. Teed on Oct. 20, 1945, in Walton.

He was a dairy farmer and had operated his own farm. He was a longtime member of the Downsville Fire Department.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Frances of Hamden; two sons, Leonard Shaw of Hamden and Lester Shaw of Milford; two daughters, Marie Fuller of Downsville and Dawn Shaw of Hamden; two sisters, Annice Garrison of Seminole, Fla., and Virginia Gray of DeLancey; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Knorr Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at 10 a.m., with Fr. R.L. Donahue of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Downsville, officiating. Interment will be in Paige Cemetery, Downsville.

There are no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Knorr Funeral Home.

Lillian P. Howe
AFTON — Lillian P. Howe, 73, of Afton, went to be with her Lord on Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at home.

She was born to the late Roy and Martha (Russell) Palmer in Norwich on Jan. 20, 1926.

Lillian married Robert F. Howe Sr., on Jan. 2, 1946, in the Afton Baptist Church.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Afton.

Lillian was a very loving mother, grandmother and friend to all who crossed her path.

For 17 years, she was the local director for Child Evangelism Fellowship in Chenango, Otsego and Delaware Counties.

In 1986, she helped found and co-direct Bibles for Children a nonprofit mission organization.

Her main focus in life was to teach children the way to salvation and train adults how to evangelize children. Her motto for living was "Only one life it soon will pass only what's done for Christ will last."

Lillian is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert F. Howe Sr. of Afton; her daughter and son-in-law, Candy and Richard Lashway Sr. of Afton; five sons and daughters-in-law, David and Ellen Howe of Phoenix, Ariz., Stephen and Gail Howe of Coral Springs, Fla., Robert and Kim Howe of Pocatello, Idaho, Timothy and Melanie Howe of Coral Springs, Fla., and Raymond Shaver of New Milford, Pa.; five sisters, Mary Miles, Frieda Burilson, Josephine Robertson, Glenna Stevens and Nina Lashway; brothers, Carl Holmes and Charles Holmes; 15 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Afton Baptist Church, Caswell Street, Afton, with the Rev. Christopher Perzoski officiating.

Friends may call Friday, Nov. 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family in Glenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider a memorial contribution to the Afton Baptist Youth Outreach Program.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Astrid H. LeChevet
SARATOGA SPRINGS — Astrid H. LeChevet, of 50 Myrtle St., died on Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999.

She was born in Richmond Hill, Long Island, on Sept. 27, 1912, and was the daughter of John and Camilla Hansen.

She lived in Saratoga Springs since 1946.

She was a graduate of Oneonta High School, Oneonta.

Mrs. LeChevet was member of the Saratoga Hospital Guild for more than 20 years. She was an active volunteer of the YMCA for years and was on the board of directors.

She was a den mother of Pack 27 of the Cub Scouts, and active in PTA activities. She volunteered for the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels.

She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling.

She was assistant to the director of Skidmore College Library for 16 years, leaving to join the staff of the Saratoga Springs Public Library, where she worked until her retirement in 1982.

Her husband, Burnett Newell LeChevet, died in February 1979.

Mrs. LeChevet is survived by two sons, Dr. Jon N. LeChevet of Burke, Va., and Burr H. LeChevet of Saratoga Springs; a brother, Wilbur Hansen of Cooperstown; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the William J. Burke & Sons Funeral Home, 628 North Broadway, Saratoga Springs.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Memorials may be made to Saratoga Springs Public Library, 49 Henry St., or Saratoga Hospital Foundation, 211 Church St.

James Robinson Sr.
SUSQUEHANNA, Pa. — James Robinson, 64, of Susquehanna, Pa., and formerly of Sidney, N.Y., passed away Monday, Nov. 1, 1999, at Barnes Kasson Hospital, Susquehanna, Pa.

He was born Nov. 17, 1934, to Carl W. and Gladys S. Owens Robinson in Oxford, N.Y.

James was a butcher in the area for many years at local grocery stores.

He was also a past member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Sidney, N.Y.

James married his former wife, Karene L. Burdick, in 1953, in Sidney, N.Y.

James is survived by his father, Carl W. Robinson of Sidney, N.Y.; his daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Walter Henriksen of Mount Upton, N.Y.; five sons and daughters-in-law, James Robinson Jr. of Bainbridge, N.Y., Alan and Sharon Robinson of Jerman, Pa., Dennis and Donna Robinson of Susquehanna, Pa., Keith and Suzanne Robinson of Guilford, N.Y., and Thomas Robinson of Susquehanna, Pa.; brother, Robert and Norri Robinson of Elyria, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at 1 p.m. at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, N.Y., with the Rev. David Masland, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Sidney, N.Y., officiating.

Friends may call Thursday, Nov. 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mary J. DuMond
YOUNG'S STATION — Mary Julia DuMond, age 103, and a 46-year resident of Young's Station, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999.

She was born Aug. 3, 1896, to the late John and Julia (Gilchrist) Strangeway on Federal Hill near Delhi.

She married Alfred A. (Pete) DuMond on June 30, 1915, in Kortright. Following their marriage, they moved to Young's Station, where they operated a dairy farm for many years.

Mary was a devoted wife and mother, working side by side with her husband tending their herd of Holsteins, and their workhorses, as well as caring for their home, children, and grandchildren.

Mary was particularly adept at growing houseplants and was known locally as an excellent cook.

Her husband predeceased her in June 1964.

Mary is survived by family that extends over another four generations. Her children, son and daughter-in-law, Harold and Iva DuMond of Young's Station; daughter, Hester D. Olds of Young's Station; son and daughter-in-law, Everett (Jing) and Barbara DuMond of Grovetown, Ga.; and her stepdaughter-in-law, Virginia DuMond of Bainbridge.

She was predeceased by four stepchildren, Mildred D. Ruling, Clarence (Steve) DuMond, Harland (Jake) DuMond and Cora D. Olds. Mary was also predeceased by her two brothers, William and Edward Strangeway; and her sister, Lulu Merrill Hawkins; as well as one grandson, Jeffrey C. DuMond.

She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Avery and William DuMond of Young's Station, Violet Olds Bishop of Young's Station, Diane Olds Timm of South Otselic, Sandra DuMond of Unadilla, Timothy DuMond of Guilford, Judd DuMond of Syracuse, Alfred DuMond of Grovetown, Ga., Ronald DuMond of Schenectady and Ira DuMond of Altamont. Also surviving are 18 stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren; stepgreat-great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, with the Rev. Roanne MacEwan, pastor of First Congregational Church, Sidney, officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Sidney Center.

Friends of the family may call Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the Wescott Funeral Home, 112 Main St., Unadilla.

Pallbearers will be Mary's grandsons, Avery DuMond, William DuMond, Timothy DuMond, Judd DuMond, Alfred DuMoud, Ronald DuMond, and Ira DuMond.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Ida R. Truesdell
HOBART — Mrs. Ida R. "MeMe" Truesdell died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at her home in Hobart.

Ida was born Dec. 20, 1926, in Prattsville, the daughter of Chester and Myrta (Benjamin) Conine.

Ida married James D. Truesdell on Jan. 7, 1947, in Windham. They mere married for 23 years until his death on June 2, 1970.

Ida was born and raised in Prattsville, after her marriage she moved to South Kortright, where she and her husband owned and operated a dairy farm. In 1968, she moved to Hobart, where she worked as a private duty nurse in Stamford, Hobart and Delhi.

Ida was a member of the Hobart United Methodist Church, attended the senior meal program in Bloomville, sold Stanley Home Products and enjoyed crocheting afghans.

Ida was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn J. and Gary Hoffman of Mount Upton; a son and daughter-in-law, Harvey J. and Velma Truesdell of Hobart; four grandchildren, James and Robert Truesdell of Hobart, Carolyn Cole of Middleburgh and James Cole of East Meredith; three great-grandchildren,  Taylor Cole, Sidney Burns and Tucker Cole of Middleburgh; also several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at the family plot in Little Westkill Cemetery, Prattsville, with the Rev. Richard Elder, pastor of the Hobart United Methodist Church, officiating.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hobart United Methodist Church or the Hobart Emergency Squad, Hobart.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta and Otego.

Virginia Harkenreader
ONEONTA — Virginia Harkenreader, 80, of Oneonta, formerly of Hoosick Falls died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at her home after a brief illness.

She was born Nov. 27, 1918, the daughter of the late Francis and Minnie (Hunt) Stowell.

She married Gerald Harkenreader in 1975, in Hoosick Falls.

Mrs. Harkenreader was an employee of the Oneonta Moose Club, until she was forced to retire due to illness. She had previously been employed in the Hoosick Falls area. She has been a resident of Oneonta sine 1973, and before that resided in the Hoosick Falls area.

Mrs. Harkenreader is survived by her husband, Gerald Harkenreader of Oneonta; her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Walter Gates of Hoosick Falls; a stepdaughter, Teresa Mariasso of Kirkwood; daughter-in-law, Ruth Stowell of Hoosick Falls; a brother, Kurt Stowell of Buskirk; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Mrs. Harkenreader was predeceased by a son, Charles Stowell of Eagle Bridge in 1989, and two sisters, Ruby Button and Winney Stowell of Buskirk.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, with the Rev. Douglas Gray, pastor of the Garrattsville United Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Island Hill Cemetery, Buskirk.

Friends may call at the funeral home, from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, when the family will be in attendance.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.

Kenneth J. Logan
ONEONTA — Mr. Kenneth J. Logan, 78, of Oneonta died Tuesday morning, Nov. 2, 1999, at his residence.

He was born July 25, 1921, in Oneonta, the son of John and Helen (Nye) Logan.

He married Elaine Sandell on Sept. 6, 1943, in Oneonta.

Ken graduated from Oneonta High School in 1939. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

Ken owned and operated Logan's Trucking for many years. He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, the Oneonta American Legion Post 259 and a past member of the B.P.O.E. 1312 and the Oneonta Eagles Club.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Elaine Logan of Oneonta; three sons, Gary Logan of Zephyrhills, Fla., Jim Logan of Bennington, Vt., and Shawn Logan of Oneonta; one sister, Louise Dougher of Greenlawn, Long Island; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Ken was predeceased by two brothers, Arthur and Donald Logan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul A. Roman officiating. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta. Friends may call Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St. at their convenience, the family will be present from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Aletha Quigley
DAVENPORT — Aletha (Belle) Quigley, 79, of Davenport, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born March 26, 1920, the daughter of Benjamin and Bessie (Earley) Quigley in Bath.

She never married but made her home in Davenport since 1938.

She is survived by two brothers-in-law; Harry Calhoun of Davenport and Marshall Milnes of Buffalo; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Quigley of Garfield, N.J.; and several nieces and nephews.

Brothers, Robert Quigley and Warren Quigley; sisters, Phyllis Milnes and Evelyn Calhoun; and a sister- and brother-in-law, Doris and Mike Hanvey, predeceased her.

At her request there will be no calling hours and funeral services will be private for the family on Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, with the Rev. Frank MacCracken Sr. officiating. Burial will take place in Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Duane Calhoun Memorial Scholarship Fund at Charlotte Valley Central School, Davenport, N.Y.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Mary F. Baker
CARLISLE — Mrs. Mary F. Baker, 87, of Little York Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at her residence following a long illness.

Mrs. Baker was born Feb. 1, 1912, in Oliver, Wis., the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Heber) Koker.

Mrs. Baker lived in Schoharie County most of her life. She assisted in the daily operations of the family dairy farm with her husband.

Mrs. Baker was a member of the former Rock District Grange. She was also a member of the Carlisle Senior Citizens.

Mrs. Baker was a communicant of the St. Vincent de Paul Church of Cobleskill.

She was predeceased by her husband, Howard L. Baker, who died June 1973; and a daughter, Judith Lord Dauley, who died in 1994.

Survivors include four daughters, Elizabeth Van Voris of Colorado Springs,  Colo., Linda Bennett of Honeoye and Evelyn Garber and Patricia Van Deusen, both of Lawyersville; a sister, Sophie Terrell of Charlotteville; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon on Monday, Nov. 8, at the St. Vincent de Paul Church  Washington Heights, Cobleskill. Celebrant will be the retired Fr. Paul Engel. Burial will be in the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. Calling hours will be private.

Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Church  Washington Heights, Cobleskill, N.Y. 12043 or the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1 MacArthur Drive, Cobleskill, N.Y. 12043
