Laura G. St. Germaine, age 91, formerly of 3-5 Riverside Drive, Saranac Lake, died Monday, June 26, 2006 at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid, New York. Born in Ellenburg Depot, New York on March 18, 1915, she was the Daughter of Matthias and Laura (Beach) Matthews. She married William St. Germaine on August 15, 1939. He predeceased her on July 14, 1994. Mrs. St. Germaine has been a resident of the area for over 40 years. She moved to Lake Clear New York from Utica, NY where she had worked for GeneraElectric for 10 years. After moving to Lake clear she worked at the Berkley Hotel in Saranac Lake for several years as a receptionist. Mrs. St. Germaine enjoyed painting, music and love of animals. She is survived by her brother David Mathews of Newberry Park, CA, and Many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and three sisters Mary Asher, and Dorothy Jones, Edyth Matthews, and two brothers George Matthews, and Matthias Matthews. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will take place on Friday at 1:00 PM at St. John's Cemetery in Lake Clear.Friends wishing to remember Laura G. David Paul Reyell, age 22, of Lake Clear, NY, died Sunday, June 25, 2006. Born in Saranac Lake, New York on March 22, 1984, he was the son of Barney and Sally (Girard) Reyell. He married Renee Scriver on July 9, 2005 in Saranac Lake. David is a life long resident of the area. He was currently employed as a mechanic at Sturdy Supply in Saranac Lake where he worked for the past 4 years. David was an avid outdoorsman who loved anything fast, especially snowmobiling. He also was an avid fisherman and enjoyed working on engines, cars and motorcycles. He is survived by his wife Renee of Saranac Lake, NY; his father and mother Barney and Sally Reyell of Lake Clear, NY; two brothers Tim Reyell and his wife Amanda of Bloomingdale, NY, Chris Reyell and his wife Mackenzie of Vermontville, NY; his maternal grandparents Robert and Betty Girard of Lake Clear, NY; father and mother-in-law David and Kathy Scriver of Saranac Lake, NY; and a sister-in-law Jessica Scriver of Saranac Lake, NY. "Uncle Dayday" is also survived by two nieces and two nephews Alyssa, Austen, Hannah, and Zachary Reyell. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many close friends. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 28, 2006 from 2PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday June 28, 2006 at the funeral home, with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery Lake Clear in Lake Clear. Kevin G. Ward, age 45, of 479 Old Lake Colby, Saranac Lake, died Friday, June 23, 2006 at his home. Born in Utica, New York on November 24, 1960, he was the son of Thomas and Agnes (Sterling) Ward. Kevin, married Gloria. Kevin had been a resident of Saranac Lake for the past five years coming from Rochester, New York. He had owned and operated his own business Tri-Lakes Mechanical Services. He is survived by his former wife Gloria, of Ontario, NY; one step daughter Alexis Osborne of Rochester, NY; two sons Kevin Ward of Ontario, NY and Sean Ward who is currently serving in the United States Air Force in Germany; two daughters Courtney Ward and Caitlin Ward both of Ontario, NY; one sister Linda Metz and her husband David of Detroit, Mich; three brothers Michael Ward and his wife Rita of Rochester, NY; Patrick Ward and his wife Elizabeth of Rochester, NY; and Paul Ward and his wife Carol of Vermontville, NY. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, mother and one brother Tom Ward. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, NY. There will be no calling hours. Following cremation a graveside service will take place on Thursday June 29, 2006 at 2:00 PM at St. Paul's Cemetery in Bloomingdale, New York. Friends wishing to remember Kevin G. Helen Sawatzki, age 80, of 102 Olive Street, Saranac Lake, died Sunday, June 25, 2006 at Fletcher Allen Health Care Center in Burlington, Vermont. Born in Saranac Lake, New York on June 11, 1926, she was the daughter of Arthur and Gladys (Bova) Duprey. She married Philip McCalvin in 1945, he predeceased her in 1960. She later married Philip Andreas Sawatzki in 1964. Mrs. Sawatzki is a life long resident of Saranac Lake and was employed at Pyrofax Gas Co. for many years until her retirement in 1985. She enjoyed traveling and reading. She is survived by her husband Andy Sawatzki of Saranac Lake, NY; two daughters Ericka Brunette of Memphis, TN, and Christine McCaffery of Southwick, MA; one grandson Kyle McCaffery of Southwick, MA; two grandchildren Debbie Glans of Saranac Lake, NY, and Deirdre Godin of Saranac Lake, NY, and 5 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father and mother and one son Gary McCalvin. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. Following cremation interment services will take place at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Saranac Lake at the convenience of the family. Carlo Caligiore, a resident of Lake Placid from 1966-87 and St. Agnes Church parishoner, passed away on May 30 while on a holiday near Venice, Italy . He was born July 1, 1923 and was 82 years old. Carlo operated the Mirror Beauty Salon on Main Street in Lake Placid before constructing an addition to the front of the family’s Saranac Avenue home. He ran the business at that address until retiring in 1987. His wife, Mary Caligiore, pre-deceased him in 1982. Carlo then returned to his hometown of Palazzolo-Acreide, Sicily in 1983, where he re-married, taking Gioconda Infantino as his new wife. The couple returned to Lake Placid and lived there from 1983-87 until the business was sold. At the time of his death, Carlo and Gioconda were on their annual trek to Northern Italy, where they spent several weeks yearly enjoying the region’s mineral baths. After one glorious week, he suddenly took ill, and after several days in a nearby hospital, passed from this life. In addition to his wife, Carlo is survived by two sons, Sandy Caligiore of Lake Placid (wife Karen, daughter Aimee) and Carlo Caligiore of Richmond, Va. (wife Liliana), a brother Giovanni and sister Pippa, both of Caracas, Venezuela, as well as several cousins, nephews and nieces in Sicily and Miami, Fla. Since leaving Lake Placid, Carlo spent his time tending to his garden and visiting friends and relatives throughout Italy . He also appreciated the ability to travel in Austria and Switzerland where he could, once again, regale in the beauty of snowfall. In recent years, Carlo added painting to his hobbies; his home in Sicily was adorned with landscapes based on his travels and home area. A Mass was offered on June 1 at the Convent dei Padres Cappucini in Palazzolo-Acreide. Burial followed on June 5 at a cemetery near the church. The family asks that he remain in the prayers and intentions of the many friends and clients he had in the Lake Placid region. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Father Joseph A. Morgan at 10 am Friday, June 23, at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid.

John B. Trevor, Jr., 97, of Palm Beach, Florida, beloved father of John B. Trevor, III, Alexander B. Trevor, Emily Trevor Van Vleck, grandfather of John B. Trevor, IV, Phyllis T. Higgerson, Evelyn T. Holm, Sophia T. Girard, Tielman T. Van Vleck, Irene T. Brooke, Anne W. Roebel, Harriet E. Van Vleck, Alexander J. B. Trevor, and great-grandfather of John 5th, Eliza, Sophia, Serena, Ann, Sarah, Benjamin, Margaret, Susanna, and Caroline, and step-grandfather of John, Emily, and Christopher Cummin, died peacefully on August 27, 2006 in Paul Smiths, N.Y. He was a past president of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, an honorary trustee of the Trudeau Institute, and a past trustee of the Cooper-Hewitt Museum of New York. At the time of his death he was the oldest member of the Union Club of New York City. The author of several books and technical articles, he co-authored “Wind and Tide in Yacht Racing.” He was a Senior Physicist at the Naval Research Laboratories during World War II, where he received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award in October 1945. He earned three degrees, A.B., B.S., and E.E. from Columbia University. He loved the Adirondacks and the St. Regis Lakes in particular. He introduced two classes of sailboats to these lakes: the M-20, and the Sunfish. (This year marks the 40th anniversary of the introduction of the M-20 class to St. Regis.) At one time he was Senior Warden of St. John’s in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, and Commodore of the St. Regis Yacht Club. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, September 3 at St. Johns in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, Paul Smiths, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trudeau Institute, Saranac Lake, N.Y. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake.

Martha Breistol, age 75, of 77 Duprey St., Saranac Lake, died Sunday, July 30, 2006 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.
Born in Giebringhausen, Germany, on July 2, 1931, she was the daughter of Karl and Marie (Tepel) Fieseler. Martha had been a resident of the United States for nearly 50 years coming here from Germany. While in Germany she was a telephone operator. She was employed by General Motors in the automobile design area in Trenton, NJ for 20 years. She was a long-time local resident who worked at Swiss Marine along with her life mate: Val Fust who died recently. Martha loved flower gardening, boating, her dogs, and meeting and conversing with people. She is survived by a sister: Elfriede Bartsch, two nieces: Annette Bartsch and Ute Hetzler and a nephew: Karl Friedrich Fieseler all of Germany. She was preceded in death by her father Karl Fieseler, her mother Marie Tepel, and her two brothers: Karl Fieseler and Fritz Fieseler. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Thursday, August 10, 2006 from 5-6PM.. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Following the service, Eddie of LaBella Ristorante, would like to invite everyone to a reception at the restaurant. Benton Foster, 63, of Saranac Lake, NY, died Sunday July 30, 2006 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. He was born December 1, 1942 in Saranac Lake. There are no services.

Doris Isabell Ramsay, 80 of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake passed away Thursday 27, 2006 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake, NY. Born in Blue Grass, Virginia on November 13, 1925 she was the daughter of Max and Bess (Chew) Hull. In her youth she grew up on the family farm in Virginia where she found plenty of chores to do and she played basketball for her highschool. Mrs. Ramsay was a quiet woman who enjoyed reading, watching television and dining out. Doris worked for Duso's sales and service for many years as a secretary. She is survived by one sister, Charlotte Gladd, one brother Joe Hull and his wife Jean, one niece and nephew, Denise and Steve Lester, one great-niece, Angela Howard and one great-nephew, Daniel Lester. Calling Hours will take place from 2 to 4 PM Sunday, July 30, with a funeral service at 11:00 AM Monday July 31 with Reverand Merry Watters officiating at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, burial will follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, or Saranac Lake Rescue Squad.

Patrick Ryan Hlavaty, age 26, of North Port, Florida, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on July 23, 2006 at his home. Born in Saranac Lake, New York on September 26, 1979, he was the son of Neil and Debra (Blanchard) Hlavaty. Patrick was a two year resident of Florida. A November wedding was planned for Patrick and his fiancee' Amber King, both graduates of SUNY, Potsdam, NY. Patrick was an alumnus of Delta Kappa Theta. He was a mental health counselor who loved music, basketball, his pets and treasured his friends. He is survived by his fiancee': Amber King of North Port, FL, his mother: Debra Gordon and her husband William Nojay, his father: Neil Hlavaty and his wife JoAnne, his siblings: Kiva Gordon, Matthew Nojay, Elizabeth Nojay and Alexander Glazebrook, his maternal grandfather: Ralph Blanchard and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Mary Blanchard and his paternal grandparents Katherine and John Hlavaty. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, on Friday, July 28, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9PM. A Bible Vigil will take place at 3:45PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 29 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Bernard's Church., with Father Jeffrey Hubbard officiating. Bertha M. McClain, age 90, formerly of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake, and Canton, NY died Sunday, July 23, 2006 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Born in Hermon, New York on August 2, 1915, she was the daughter of Earl and Mattie (Harbison) Smith. Bertha, married Robert McClain on November 20, 1940 in Potsdam, New York. Robert predeceased Bertha in 1951. Bertha has been a resident of Saranac Lake since 1996 coming from Potsdam, and of Raleigh since May of 2005. Prior to that she lived in Canton, New York where she had worked as a school teacher until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and playing cards. She also enjoyed and loved her grandchildren. Bertha is survived by two children: Paul E. & Kathleen McClain and Gail and Dale Hill, three grandchildren: Amy Rookey, Lisa Layton and Robert McClain and a sister-in-law, Patricia McClain. She was preceded in death by her father Earl Smith, her mother Mattie Harbison Smith, her son Thomas McClain, a granddaughter: Meghan McClain and her sister Marion Poole. Private burial will take place at Bayside Cemetery in Potsdam. Kenneth "Guy" LaVigne, 84, of 20 Prospect Street, Tupper Lake died Friday, July 21, 2006 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born on August 17, 1921 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Thomas and Wilhelmina (Annette) LaVigne. Mr. LaVigne worked for the Veterans Association and then went on to work as a mental health therapist at Sunmount in Tupper Lake. He served in the military during World War II from September 26, 1942 to May 21, 1945 as a dog trainer. Guy was a member of the American Legion and a former Knight of Columbus. His hobbies included gardening and watching TV, baseball among his favorites, he loved the Boston Red Sox. Kenneth is survived by his wife of 50 years Eleanor LaVigne of Tupper Lake, and three daughters, Mary Stevens, Carole Martin and her companion Mike Arsenault, and Jayne Pickering and her companion Fred Exware all of Tupper Lake, one son, John
Paul LaVigne and his wife Amy LaVigne of Tupper Lake, one brother, Gordon LaVigne also of Tupper Lake, eight grandchildren: Jeremi and Jaymi Martin, Christy and Jason Pickering, Morgan Stevens, Adam and Madeson LaVigne, numerous nieces and nephews and three great grandchildren. Mr. LaVigne is preceded in death by one son, Kenny LaVigne, three sisters: Leah LeFebvre, Priscilla Veseau and Annette Brunet and two brothers: Arthur and George LaVigne. Calling hours were held Sunday, July 23 from 3:00 to 6:00PM, there will be a mass of Christian burial Monday, July 24 at 1:00PM at Holy Name church with a burial at St. Alphonsus cemetery to follow. Clarabelle E. Finlayson, age 95, of Lake Clear, NY and late of Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid, died Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Uihlein Mercy Center. Born in Santa Clara, New York on March 9, 1911, she was the daughter of James H and Louise S. (Averill) Suprise. A life-long resident of Lake Clear, and of Will Rogers for four years, Mrs. Finlayson began her career as a caregiver for those suffering from TB. She was a waitress at the Saranac Inn Hotel, and was a caretaker at various great camps whose duties included cooking and maintenance. She was housekeeper and assistant caretaker for the Bedford family at Green Bay Camp. Her special talents were called upon by many of the great camps along the lake. Clarabelle was a member of the Adirondack Presbyterian Church at Lake Clear all of her adult life. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge, the Home Bureau and various other organizations. After her retirement she spent winters in Florida and enjoyed traveling. She was "grandma" to local families over a lifetime and always had an open door to stranger and friend alike. Clarabelle is survived by five children: Audrey Woolsey and husband James of Lake Clear, Darrell Finlayson and wife Ellen of Ft. Edward, NY, Stanley Finlayson and wife Nadine of SanDiego, CA, Janis LeVin of Okeechobe, FL, and LeRoy Finlayson and wife Maureen of Oswego, NY. She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1983, her father James H. Suprise, her mother Louise S.Averill Surprise and her daughter Patricia Ann Finlayson. The family wishes a special thanks for the loving care given by: Dr. Thomashow, Dr. Deda, the entire staff at Uihlein Mercy Center, North Country Home Services, and the Will Rogers Staff. Calling hours took place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Sunday from 4-8PM. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11AM at the Adirondack Presbyterian Church at Lake Clear with Rev. Art Goyette officiating and Reverend Timothy Klasnick assisting. Marion Estelle Hale, age 78, of McClelland Street, Saranac Lake, NY died Monday at Wingate at Dutchess Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fishkill after a long illness. She was the daughter of the late Francis and Estelle Hale and sister of the late Francis C. Hale, Jr. Marion was born in Saranac Lake and graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1947. She was a cashier for the Loan Service Corporation for over 20 years. She was a lifelong resident of Saranac Lake and enjoyed bowling and her home. Survivors include a niece, Gloria Hale, of West Sand Lake, NY and a nephew, Glenn Hale, of Henderson, NV; 3 great-nieces; an aunt, Harriet Sharlow of Massena, NY and several cousins. She also leaves behind numerous friends who were as loved and special to her as family. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home from 12:00 to 2:00 PM on Saturday July 22, 2006. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Merry Watters officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
