Mary Richmond Aird

WEAVERVILLE, N.C. — Mary Richmond Aird, 94 years young, made the transition to Eternal Life on Friday, Dec. 17, 1999.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., to Scottish immigrant parents, Sally Richmond and Tam (Tom) Aird, she was blessed with a rich sense of humor, a great love for all people, a compassion for "All Creatures — Great and Small," and an uncanny ability to truly live life to its fullest.

While Mary never bore children, she raised many and influenced hundreds of others — of all ages! Her ability to find good in people was only surpassed by her ability to help others find good in themselves.

Mary moved to Delhi in 1950, to be closer to her sister and brother-in-law, the late Jen and Harry Main of Lake Delaware.

She loved the people of Delhi and they loved her in return. Mary is remembered by many — walking to work with one of her canine companions, her smiling face in Smith's Jewelry Store and her ever-open front door to the "warmest" and cutest apartment in Delhi, where one could always find solace — and a cup of tea or a toddy!

Mary was a founding mother of the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, a Rebekah Lodge #318 member of 42 years and an active member of the United Ministry of Delhi.

In 1994, Mary and her dog, Spot, moved to Weaverville, N.C. to live with her niece, Linda Tull. Most recently she resided in the Brian Center Nursing Home, where she won the hearts of many.

Mary is survived by her niece, Linda Tull; their beloved golden retriever, Dreamer; her lifelong friend, Betty Carey, 99, of Upper Darby, Pa.; and scores of friends from all ages and walks of life.

While Mary loved and received many flowers in life she would have appreciated donations being made to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County or the United Ministry of Delhi, both of Delhi, N.Y. 13753. Donations may also be made to the Habitat for Humanity of your choice.

A celebration of Mary's rich life will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, Mars Hill, N.C. on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at 5 p.m.
