RoseMarie Neer

LAURENS — RoseMarie (DeAllaume) Neer, 25, of Laurens, died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, at NYU Hospital in New York City.

She was born Aug. 24, 1974, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Edward and Lorraine (D'arrigo) DeAllaume.

RoseMarie was a home health-care aide in the Oneonta and surrounding areas. She was a very loving mother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt and friend who touched so many lives. She will be deeply missed by all.

Rosie was a Girl Scout leader in Laurens.

RoseMarie is survived by her parents, Edward and Lorraine DeAllaume of Laurens; two daughters: Brittany Marie and her father, Steven, and his parents, Joe and Cindy Neer; and Eva Marie and her father, Sam, and his parents, Sam and Joyce Weitzel; three sisters Lisa, and her daughter, Angela, Jennifer and Joyce; four brothers and a sister-in-law, Eric and his fiancee, Ormonde, Chris and Bobby-Jo and their daughter, Marissa, Joseph and William; her maternal grandmother, Rose D'arrigo of Oneonta; beloved aunts, Eva and Rose Sanchez; a loving aunt, Rena Rose; several other aunts, uncles, and cousins; as well as many, many friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Row Cemetery, Laurens.

The family will be present at the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. for those who wish may call.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made to a memorial fund for Rosie, care of Edward DeAllaume, 765 Co. Hwy. 11, Laurens, N.Y. 13796 in loving memory of RoseMarie (DeAllaume) Neer.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Pauline McKenna

EDMESTON — Pauline McKenna, 74, wife of Arthur McKenna, passed away Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, in Dade City, Fla.

She was born April 29, 1925, in Petros, Tenn. For many years she was a cook at Chase Memorial Nursing Home, New Berlin.

Surviving are her husband, three sons, James of New Berlin, Marshall of Knoxville, Tenn., and Patrick of Yorktown, Va.; one brother, William Portwood of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Alma Walls of Tennessee; and several grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at 9 a.m. at the family home, 46 South St., Edmeston. Calling hours at the residence on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. Interment will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, Utica.

Arrangements are by Fitch-Mills Funeral Home, Boonville.

Daniel Speenburgh

MARYLAND — Daniel L. Speenburgh, 27, of Maryland, N.Y., died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at Albany Medical Center, Albany.

He was born June 18, 1972 in Catskill, the son of Walter and Sharon (Votee) Speenburgh.

Daniel lived most of his life in Otego having only recently moved to Maryland. He was involved in roofing and had worked for Shane C. Couse Construction, Oneonta.

He had attended Unatego High School in Wells Bridge.

A very talented young man, Daniel was a happy, outgoing, kind-hearted person. He enjoyed life and had many friends. He loved music and played the bass guitar.

Daniel is survived by his fiancee, Crystal Brown of Maryland, N.Y.; four children, Jacob, Megan, Hunter James and Briahna; his parents, Walter and Sharon Speenburgh of Otego; four brothers, Walter Speenburgh Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Hobart, Shawn Speenburgh of Otego, Christopher Allen Speenburgh of Bloomville, and Walter James Speenburgh of Delhi; one sister, Tammy Speenburgh and her fiance, Scott Fletcher, of Sidney; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Julian Votee of Oneonta; and paternal grandfather, Clifford Speenburgh of Stamford. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Fred Albrecht, pastor of the Otego United Methodist Church, Otego, officiating.

Daniel will be cremated at the Hillington Crematory, Morris, and his cremains buried in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta, in the spring.

Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, from 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, when the family will be present at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be given to his mother, Sharon Speenburgh, for a trust fund to be established for his children.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes of Oneonta and Otego.

Margaret Ramsay

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Margaret Y. Ramsay, 71, of Springfield Center and formerly of Cooperstown, died Saturday evening, Dec. 18, 1999.

She was born on June 28, 1928, in Montreal, Canada, a daughter of Lionel A. and Elsie M. (Dimock) Forsyth.

She married Dr. Allan G. Ramsay on Oct. 27, 1951, in Montreal, Canada.

Mrs. Ramsay spent her youth in Montreal and graduated from the Trafalgar School for Girls there. She then attended McGill University in Montreal, graduating in 1949.

A member of Christ Church in Cooperstown, Mrs. Ramsay had lived in Cooperstown for the past 29 years, recently moving to Springfield Center.

A civic minded person, she had been very active in community affairs for many years. She was a volunteer for the Junior Leagues in both Montreal and Birmingham, Ala., the Maycourt Club and the Art Gallery, both in London, Ontario, Canada, the Florence Crittenden League of Boston, Mass., a member and past president of the Lake and Valley Garden Club in Cooperstown and a member of the Cooperstown Country Club, where she served on various committees. She was a former member of the London (Canada) Hunt Club, the Canadian Club of New York and a former member and past board member of Gallery 53 in Cooperstown.

Mrs. Ramsay is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dr. Allan G. Ramsay of Springfield Center; her daughter, Dr. Jennifer Ann Ramsay of Hamilton, Ontario, Canada; her son, Alastair G.I. Ramsay of Seattle, Wash.; her four grandchildren, Simon Ramsay, Cameron Ramsay, Caroline Ramsay and Brandon Ramsay; her brother, Avard Forsyth of Mexico; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her sister, Annabelle Andrews.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Springfield Center, with the Rev. Persis P. Williams, rector, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Canon George F. French, rector emeritus of Christ Church in Cooperstown.

At the request of the family there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the American Lung Association of Mid-New York, 311 Turner St., Suite 415, Utica, N.Y. 13501 or the Cooperstown Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 322, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Ralph G. DeVost

SIDNEY — Ralph G. DeVost, 73, of Sidney, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at Albany Veterans Hospital.

He was born to the late Nepeolon and Elenor Lamb DeVost on Dec. 4, 1926, in Keene Valley.

Mr. DeVost served his country in the United States Navy during World War II.

He married Anita Lord on June 27, 1948, in Unadilla.

Mr. DeVost was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #277, Sidney, the Charles L. Jacobi American Legion Post #183, Sidney, and the V.F.W. R.H. Arrandale Post #7914, Sidney.

He was employed as a driver for the United States Postal Service until 1973.

Mr. DeVost is survived by his wife, Anita DeVost of Unadilla; six sons and daughters-in-law, Clifford and Cindy DeVost of Rialto,  Calif., Bruce and Lynette DeVost of Masonville, Keith and Michelle DeVost of Unadilla, Curt and Joan DeVost of Otego, Dana and Franca DeVost of Gaeta, Italy, and Scott and Elaine DeVost of Sidney; three daughters, Christina DeVost of Vestal, Denise DeVost of Cooperstown and Karen DeVost of Newtown, Pa.; two brothers, Douglas Whitney of Keene Valley and Timothy DeVost of Delmar; two sisters, Yvonne Whitney of Albany and Beverly DeVost of Lake Placid; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at 1 p.m. at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Loyal Order of Moose #277 will officiate.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Education Fund for the Loyal Order of Moose, #277, Sidney.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Helen O. Bundy

ONEONTA — Helen O. Bundy, 89, of Oneonta, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999, at her residence after a brief illness.

She was born Oct. 4, 1910, in Oneonta, the daughter of Keith E. and Lulu (Dunson) Ormiston.

She married Milon J. Bundy on July 14, 1934, in Oneonta. Mr. Bundy died Feb. 14, 1989.

Mrs. Bundy graduated from the Oneonta Normal School, Class of 1931, and from Oneonta State in 1962. She taught school in Huntington, Long Island, for several years, returning to Oneonta in 1943, to teach at Bugbee School. She also held several positions as a member of the education department with Bugbee School and the State University College at Oneonta. Mrs. Bundy also served as a faculty advisor to Alpha Sigma Bata Sorority.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Oneonta, the New York State Retired Teachers Association and AARP.

Mrs. Bundy is survived by two sons, Bruce and his wife, Joanne of Amawalk and Keith Bundy of Oneonta; one grandson, Theodore Bundy; and a granddaughter, Laurel and her husband, Sean Castellano.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home in Oneonta. Burial will be later in the spring at Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 296 Main St., Oneonta or the College of Oneonta Foundation, SUCO at Oneonta, 308 Netzer Building, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Joseph E. Wright

LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. — Joseph Edwin Wright, 77, of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., died Sunday, Dec. 19, 1999, at Havasu Regional Medical Center.

He was born April 13, 1922, in Oneonta, N.Y.

He was a resident of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., for 20 years, from Scotia, N.Y.

He worked as a machinist for General Electric Co. in Schenectady, N.Y., for 40 years.

He was a veteran of the United States Army World War II.

Joseph is survived by his sons, Craig Wright of Niskayuna, N.Y., David Wright of Scotia, N.Y., and Kevin Wright of Midvale, Utah; daughters, Michelle Pitts of Millis, Mass., and Nancy Edens of Gilbert, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements are by the Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.

Ralph L. Crumb

HAMILTON — Ralph L. "Ike" Crumb, 80, of the Poolville-Hubbardsville Road, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at the Community Memorial Hospital, Hamilton.

Born Jan. 31, 1919, in Hubbardsville, he was the son of William R. and Florence Dix Crumb and was a graduate of Hamilton Central School.

On Oct. 30, 1949, Ike married the former Margaret Colburn in East Hamilton. For several years, Mr. Crumb owned and operated a dairy and produce farm in partnership with his brother and enjoyed trucking his produce to markets in the New York City area. In 1959, he bought his own dairy farm, which he ran until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the East Hamilton United Methodist Church and his favorite pastimes included bowling, hunting and football.

Surviving are his wife, Margaret Crumb of Hamilton; a daughter and son-in-law, Elaine C. and Daniel Benedict of Geneva; two granddaughters, Erin and Dana Benedict of Geneva; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ruth Miller of Garrattsville, Betty Woliski of Florida, Wanda and Mason Tiffany of West Burlington, Sally and Bud Pickens of New Berlin, Jone and Elmer Lum of Edmeston, Patricia Mahar of Burlington Green, Fay (Dick) Colburn of Swanton, Ohio, Donald Colburn of Edmeston, Kenneth and Josephine Colburn of Burlington Flats and Edwin Colburn and Beverly Turner of Burlington Flats; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by an infant son, Wesley Ralph Crumb; and a brother, Lawrence Crumb.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 1999, from the East Hamilton United Methodist Church, East Hamilton.

Burial will be in the Graham Cemetery, Hubbardsville.

Contributions may be made in his memory to SOMAC, P.O. Box 453, Hamilton, N.Y. 13346 or to the Hubbardsville Fire Department, Hubbardsville, N.Y. 13355.

Goldie I. Layman

STAMFORD — Goldie Irene Layman, 76, died Thursday morning, Dec. 23, 1999, at Robinson Terrace.

Irene was born July 16, 1923, in Prattsville, the daughter of Omar Edward and Ildria (Brink) Mead.

She married Alfred S. Layman on July 23, 1948. They were married for 49 years until his death on June 27, 1998.

Irene grew up in Ashland and went to Gilboa-Conesville Central School, where she graduated with a Regents diploma.

She was a retired employee of the Oneonta Dress Factory. She was a former longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Upton.

Irene made homemade quilts by hand and loved to can, make jellies, cook and read.

Irene is survived by a son, Arthur Stephen Layman of Gloversville; three daughters, Virginia and Gary Lewis of East Branch, Patricia Ann Curran of Endicott and Karen and Mitchell Passino of Broadalbin; a daughter-in-law, Ann and Alan Wetsell of Sloansville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Dennis Alfred Layman; three brothers, Clifford, Donald and Theodore Mead; and two sisters, Gladis and Elsie Mead.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

The Rev. Mel Farmer will officiate.

Irene will be placed in the Bookhout Private Burial Vault to await burial in the spring at Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home 1 p.m. Monday until service time.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Quality of Life Fund at Robinson Terrace, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Mabel D. Hanson

AMHERST, Mass. — Mabel Dorothy (Scholl) Hanson, 87, a former resident of Morris, died Monday, Dec. 20, 1999, at Sunbridge of Hadley, Hadley, Mass.

Mabel was born in New York City on Oct. 20, 1912, the daughter of Minnie (Minna) B. (Steebing) and Anthony (Anton) Scholl.

She lived her early life on Long Island. She and her husband, Ralph, raised their family in Morris.

Mabel was an active member of Zion Episcopal Church of Morris, where she served on the altar guild for many years. Mabel was employed as a secretary at Hartwick College in Oneonta and for the Naylor Company in Morris.

After her retirement, she moved to Amherst to be closer to her son, Allen, a professor at the University of Massachusetts.

She was predeceased by her husband.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Allen and Joan Hanson of Shutesbury, Mass.; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Duke Turpin of Cedar Park,  Texas; grandchildren, Kristine Dion and David Hanson; one niece and one nephew.

A small family service will be held on Sunday in upstate New York. There are no calling hours.

Amherst Funeral Home, 151 Amity St., Amherst, Mass., is in charge of arrangements.

Donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 57 Suffolk St., Holyoke, Mass. 01040 or the American Heart Association, 383 Dwight St., Holyoke, Mass. 01040.

Ann Leslie Stroh

MORRIS — Ann Leslie Stroh, 81, of Morris, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at the Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at 2:30 p.m. in the Zion Episcopal Church in Morris.

A reception will follow at the Zion Church parish house.

Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Newburgh in the spring.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
