Katherine A. Brust

HARPERSFIELD — Katherine A. Brust, 67, of Quaker Hill Road, Harpersfield, died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at home with her family by her side after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness.

Katherine was born Nov. 28, 1932, in Dearborn, Mich., the daughter of John and Anna Butler and the sister of Wallace (predeceased), William, and Rosemary.

She grew up in Detroit, Mich. There she pursued a nursing career and received her R.N. from Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit in 1954, and her Bachelor's of Nursing from Jersey City State College.

Katherine served in the National Guard as a registered nurse.

Soon thereafter she met and wed her husband, John A. Brust in 1956 (he predeceased her in March 1993). Together, Katherine and John were the proud parents of seven children, predeceased by their son, Michael William.

Katherine is survived by her six remaining children, John K. and his wife, Michele, and granddaughters, Katie and Kelly; son, Dr. Daniel E. and his wife, Doreen, and granddaughter, Alicia and grandson, Jonathan; son, James A. and wife, Susan, and grandson, Kevin; her oldest daughter, Rosann; youngest son, Dr. Robert A. and his wife, Alyssa; daughter, Katherine M. and husband, James Aydlett, and granddaughters, Katherine and Margaret.

In addition to raising a family, Katherine continued her nursing career at many different levels throughout her life to include operating and emergency room duty, private duty and public health nursing in New Jersey and Catholic Charities Home Care in New York.

Katherine was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Mary's Church of Dumont, N.J. for many years before moving to Cresskill, N.J. They later purchased and maintained a property in Harpersfield since 1968.

Katherine and her husband, John, were members of the Colonel Harper Grange in Harpersfield. She was a member of the Parish Council and Catholic Daughters at Sacred Heart Church in Stamford.

A funeral Mass will be offered at noon on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Stamford, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be held at a later date in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Stamford.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 West Main St., Stamford at their convenience on Friday afternoon (2 to 4 p.m.) and evening (7 to 9 p.m.). The family will be in attendance between 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and also on Saturday morning, from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral Mass.

Expressions of sympathy in lieu of floral arrangements may be made in Katherine's memory to the Sacred Heart Church, Harper Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167 in care of the Rev. Joseph Cebula or to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford.

Edith B. Haug

STAMFORD — Edith B. Haug, a Stamford area resident for 25 years, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at her home.

Edith was born in Brooklyn on Feb. 26, 1914, and moved to New Jersey while still a young child. She was formerly a resident of Fair Lawn, N.J.

She received her bachelor's of science degree from Newark State College and an master's degree from Paterson State. Edith's teaching career spanned 29 years, 18 of which were spent in the West Milpond, N.J., school system.

During World War II, she served as liaison officer between manufacturer and licensee supply at the naval air base at San Diego,  Calif.

Edith was a member of Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society, the Nu Lambda Kappa Honor Society, the Over 70 Ski Club at Scotch Valley, the Catholic Daughters of America and the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Stamford.

Edith was the wife of the late Oscar (Augie) Haug Jr., who died in 1987.

She is survived by her daughter, Joan Porcoro, and son-in-law, Eugene Porcoro, of Pitcher; four grandchildren, Michael B. Wanas of Alexandria, Va., Christine Paul of Cypress,  Calif., and Frank and Eugene Porcoro of  Pennsylvania; and one great-grandchild, Ian Paul, of Cypress,  Calif.

Friends may call on Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, between 2 and 6 p.m. at the William A. Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St., (corner of Liberty), Stamford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Sacred Heart R.C.C. in Stamford.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the William A. Tari Funeral Home, Stamford.

Katherine W. Ross

ONEONTA — Mrs. Katherine W. Ross, 98, of Oneonta, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta.

Prior to going into the nursing home she lived with her daughter, Evelyn Woodcock, for 10 years.

She was born Feb. 5, 1901, in Delmenhorst, Germany, the daughter of William and Frieda (Schubert) Boning.

She married Frank Rumenapp on March 15, 1921, in Germany. Mr. Rumenapp died Aug. 12, 1955. She then married E.J. Ross on Oct. 1, 1966, in Oneonta. Mr. Ross died in May 1983.

Katherine and Frank moved to the United States in October of 1926. They had lived in Franklin from 1926 to 1941. In 1941, they came to Oneonta, having first lived on London Avenue and later on River Street.

Katherine worked for the Ashland Glove Company in Oneonta from 1944 to 1957, where she operated the knitting machine. She also worked at the Mica Plant and the Oneonta Dress Company. In later years she was a home healthcare aide for a gentleman in Wisconsin.

She enjoyed her flowers, knitting, crocheting and baking.

Katherine was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneonta and a past member of the Oneonta Moose Club.

She is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Woodcock of Oneonta; eight grandchildren, Heinz Rumenapp, Richard Rumenapp, Zillah Frampton, Frank Rumenapp, Frank Woodcock, Leon Woodcock, Robert Woodcock Jr. and Donna Woodcock; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, George and Elsie Rumenapp of  Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews.

Katherine was predeceased by her son, Henry Rumenapp; her son-in-law, Robert Woodcock; two brothers, William and Alvin Boning; and a sister, Martha Cronauer.

Funeral and committal services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Joseph A. Fiske officiating. The family will be present at the funeral home on Sunday from 1 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in the spring at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in loving memory of Mrs. Katherine W. Ross.

William F.J. Rouleau

CONESVILLE — William F.J. Rouleau, 77, of Conesville died Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2000, at his home.

He was born Feb. 14, 1922, in Boston, N.Y., the son of William Rouleau and Evelyn Sylvia.

He married Elsie Kramer on May 3, 1947, in Brooklyn.

He served in the Seebees, 1941-1945.

He operated a steel fabrication business in Grand Gorge for 12 years, known as Tecweld.

He lived in the town of Conesville for 21 years.

He was a member of the American Legion Post. He was an artist and a wood and metal sculptor.

William is survived by his wife, Elsie Rouleau of Conesville; one son, William J. Rouleau of Conesville; two daughters, Linda Rouleau of Lake Ronkonkoma and Susan Conti of Middleburgh; four grandchildren; two sisters, Sylvia Rackett of  Washington, D.C. and Marion Andersen of St. James, Long Island.

Private services will be conducted at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Christine M. Veeck

FLY CREEK — Mrs. Christine M. Veeck, 92, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at the home of her daughter, Cheryl Bronson, in Fly Creek.

She was born Sept. 30, 1907, in Hampton Bays, Long Island, the daughter of Charles and Charlotte (Tuthill) Raynor.

She was trained as an LPN nurse, and worked for a dental office in Hampton Bays, Long Island, for many years before retiring.

Mrs. Veeck is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Bronson of Fly Creek; two granddaughters, Christine Ruth Spangler of Cape Canaveral, Fla. and Amy Margaret Hougland of Jacksonville, Fla.; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew Veeck in 1980; and a son, Ronald Parker Simmons, who was killed in the Korean War.

Contributions in Mrs. Veeck's memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice.

Cremation will take place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

Local arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Memorial services will be held at a later date, under the direction of J.M. O'Connell Funeral Home, Southhampton, N.Y., (516) 283-0098.

Albert H. Vickers

PRESTON — Albert H. Vickers, 81, prominent town of Preston farmer, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital of Cooperstown, following an extended illness.

Albert was born in Woodford on Oct. 21, 1918, the son of Frank and Nettie Kilmer Vickers.

Growing up in the Walton area, he was a graduate of the Gilbertsville High School.

He farmed in Preston for nearly all of his adult life, and also served the town of Preston for several years as an assessor. He had also been employed by Procter and Gamble Pharmaceuticals as a security guard prior to his retirement.

Known for the colorful flowers he grew, which are still prominent on his son's farm. Albert was a frequent speaker at Grange gatherings and elsewhere on the art of flower growing.

He was a longtime member and Past Master of the Preston Grange.

On Nov. 3, 1945, Albert married Ruth Salisbury, who passed away in 1992.

Albert is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bradd and Rainy Vickers of Norwich; by his sister, Hilda Houck of Delhi; and by several nieces and nephews.

Besides his wife, Albert was predeceased by his brother, Burton Vickers.

Friends are invited to call at the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Chenango County Farm Bureau Promotion and Education Committee, P.O. Box 7, South New Berlin, N.Y., 13843, or to the Dialysis Unit of Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Earl G. Weeks

SEFFNER, Fla. — Earl G. Weeks, 64, of Seffner, Fla., died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Tampa General Hospital.

A native of Springfield, N.Y., he moved to Seffner, Fla. in 1971.

He was an auto mechanic. He owned Earl's Garage in East Springfield, N.Y. before going to Florida. He was the owner of the E.G. Weeks Rescue and Recovery Towing Service in Seffner, Fla.

He was a member of Seffner First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel; a son, Shawn of Russiaville, Ind.; two daughters, Patricia Roberts and Linda Carrick, both of Plant City, Fla.; a brother, James of Richfield Springs, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Tabitha and Kendra Roberts, Joshua and Trent Carrick, Rebecca and Jennifer Weeks.

Funeral was held at Stowers Funeral Home, Brandon, Fla., Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999.

Edith J. Nettleton

ONEONTA — Mrs. Edith Jeanett (Leon D.) Nettleton died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000.

Mrs. Nettleton was born in Pittsfield, Mass., Feb. 13, 1913, the daughter of J. Pomeroy and Jennie Carpenter Smith of West Stockbridge, Mass., where she resided until completing college.

She was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, class of 1930, and of what is now the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, class of 1934.

She taught at a girls' school in Middletown, Conn., prior to her marriage to Leon Nettleton, Aug. 24, 1937, at West Stockbridge Center, Mass. They subsequently resided at Mount Morris, Harrison and Pleasantville until Mr. Nettleton's retirement as a high school teacher in 1970. Following travel and three semesters at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, the couple moved to Oneonta, where they had made their home since 1973.

In Oneonta, Mrs. Nettleton was active in St. James Church as a lay reader and altar guild member; in Church Women United, Delaware-Otsego Audubon Society and A.O. Fox Auxiliary.

She leaves a son, George, and his wife, Ruth, of Lee's Summit, Mo.; two grandchildren, Karen of Woodside and David of Tyler,  Texas; a brother, Raymond Smith of West Stockbridge, Mass.; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1992 and a cousin, Charles Alexander, in 1993.

If anyone so wishes, contributions may be made in Mrs. Nettleton's name to St. James Church, for equipment or the missions committee at 305 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Memorial service will be Sunday, Jan. 30, at St. James Church, Oneonta. Call 432-1458 for the time.

Lillian McLean

ANDES — Lillian McLean, 85, of Andes, died Jan. 13, 2000, at Robinson Terrace in Stamford.

Lillian was born April 25, 1914, in the Bronx, the daughter of Gustav and Armanda Sarglep Weidick.

She married John McLean on Jan. 24, 1942, in Andes.

She was a graduate of Ryder College in Trenton, N.J., with a degree in commercial science. She worked in New York City for seven years prior to her marriage. Lillian was school district clerk in Andes for 13 years and assisted her husband in the operation of their dairy farm.

Lillian is survived by her husband, John, of Andes; three daughters, Joan Agrawal of Chicago, Mary Ellen Lenz of Wheaton, Ill., and Nancy Roney of Binghamton; seven grandchildren and two nieces.

Funeral services will be Sunday, Jan. 16, at 3:30 p.m. at the Jester-Stanley Funeral Home in Andes with the Rev. Daniel McCollister officiating. Burial will be in Andes Cemetery at a later date.

Friends may call at the Jester-Stanley Funeral Home on Saturday when the family will be in attendance from 7-9 p.m.

Memorials to the Andes Emergency Squad in the name of Lillian McLean would be appreciated.

Flora Merkt-Buck

MIDDLEFIELD — Mrs. Flora Merkt-Buck, 86, of Middlefield, died late Friday night at The Meadows.

Flora was born Aug. 8, 1913, in the Bronx, a daughter of Henry and Lillian (Fuchs) Merkt.

She married Frank T. Buck on June 28, 1942, in the Bronx.

After completing high school, she attended business school before working for L.F. Dommereich and Co. as a secretary and receptionist. After World War II, Flora left the company to become a caring mother, an outstanding housewife and a very, very loving wife.

Flora is survived by her husband of 57 years, Frank; one son and daughter-in-law, James and Marian Buck of Toledo, Ohio; grandchildren,  Taylor and Olivia Buck; two sisters-in-law, Helen Buck and Shirley Buck; and a brother-in-law, William L. Buck; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Flora was predeceased by a son, Frank H. Buck, USN, who died in Vietnam in 1967, and her parents, Henry and Lillian Merkt.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Very Rev. Douglas C. Smith, pastor of the Christ Episcopal Church in Cooperstown, officiating.

Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, from 5 to 8 p.m., when the family will be in attendance.

Mrs. Buck will be placed in the receiving vault at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown awaiting burial in the spring in Lakewood Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.
