Paul F. Garrison

JEFFERSON — Paul F. Garrison, 76, of Potter Hill Road,  Jefferson, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Oct. 17, 1923, at Brooklyn, the son of Joseph and Madeline (Ludeke) Garrison.

Paul was married to Josephine Wieronski, Dec. 8, 1945, in France. Josephine died May 27, 1996.

Paul was a United States Army veteran during World War II and served in the European Theater in France. As a first sergeant he was a highly decorated soldier including a Purple Heart.

Paul retired as head custodian for the Clarkstown South High School in New City. He moved to  Jefferson 28 years ago from Congers.

Paul was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Stamford, and the Lt. Harry Pruden Jr. V.F.W. Post Stamford. He was an avid sports fan and loved his grandchildren.

Paul is survived by four daughters, Marie Schwarzkopf of  White Plains, Kathy Toften of Delhi and Terri Loveless and Jo Ann Diamond of  Jefferson; three sons, Paul F. Garrison Jr. of Stony Point and Stephen Garrison and Martin Garrison, both of  Jefferson; a sister, Fran O'Sullivan of Bricktown, N.J.; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be offered 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at the Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, presiding. The burial with full military honors will be held at the Sacred Heart Cemetery, at a later date.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford, Monday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Paul's memory to the  Jefferson Rescue Squad,  Jefferson, N.Y. 12093.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Agustin Ronquillo

SIDNEY — Dr. Agustin Ronquillo, 63, of Sidney, passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at home.

He was born May 5, 1936, to the late Laureano and Faustina Hernandez Ronquillo in Manila, Philippines.

He married Gloria Maurin in 1965, in New York City.

Gus graduated from the Medical University of St. Thomas, Manila, in 1961. He completed his residency at Albert Einstein Montefiore Hospital, the Bronx.

Gus was also employed as a clinical instructor at Baylor University in Houston,  Texas, with world-renowned transplant surgeon Dr. Michael DeBakey.

He served his country in the United States Navy from 1983-1986, and was discharged honorably as commander.

Gus was also the director of the lab at the Naval Hospital, Orlando, Fla. He was a medical missionary in Manila, and a member of Sacred Heart Church.

Gus was the pathologist and medical director for The Hospital, Sidney, since 1988.

Dr. Ronquillo is survived by his wife, Gloria, of Sidney; three sons, Mark of London, England, Jason of Orlando, Fla., and David of Sidney; two brothers and three sisters; devoted sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and Robert  Schmidt of Queens; two grandchildren, who were the light of his life, Lauren and Alexander; and several nieces, nephews and cousins

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Sacred Heart Church, Liberty Street, Sidney, at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz officiating.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Hospital Foundation, Sidney.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Marie E. Saltys

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Marie E. Saltys, 78, formerly of  Johnson Street, died peacefully, with her family at her bedside, Saturday evening, Jan. 29, 2000, in the Masonic Home, Utica.

She was born on Aug. 3, 1921, in Cullen, a daughter of the late Anthony and Sophie Potrikus Jakubek.

A lifelong area resident, she attended school in Richfield Springs.

Her marriage to Walter Saltys took place on April 7, 1945, in Richfield Springs.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs.

She had worked as a dressmaker since she was 18 years old retiring from the Canajoharie Dress Manufacturing Company in 1989.

Marie was a lover of nature, she enjoyed watching and feeding the many birds and squirrels that came to visit the feeders she had in her garden.

Surviving besides her devoted husband, Walter of 55 years, are four loving daughters and their husbands, Eleanor and Michael Peplinski and Jean and Wayne Seamon, all of Richfield Springs, Anna and Jeffrey Pierson of Herkimer and Carol and Rodney Brown of Mohawk; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Leo Jakubek, who died during World War II; and her sister, Clara Barrett in October 1995.

Calling hours will be Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial and interment in St. Joseph Cemetery will take place later this spring at a time to be announced.

Memorial donations may be made to the Masonic Home or American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Dolly Coffee

STAMFORD — Dolly Coffee of Mt. Avenue, Stamford, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at her residence.

She was born in Newark, N.J., the daughter of Arthur and Florence (Ford) Devine.

Dolly was married to Charles F. Coffee on Oct. 12, 1952, in Stamford. Charlie died Dec. 1, 1972.

Dolly graduated from the Star of the Sea Academy High School in Long Branch, N.J., and from Catherine Gibbs Academy in New York City.

She was a 50-year resident of Stamford and for many years with her husband owned and operated the Coffee Dry Cleaners.

Dolly was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Stamford.

Dolly is survived by a brother, Jack Devine of Boca Raton, Fla.; a niece, Guenn Reddy of Locharbour, N.J.; a nephew, John Devine of Lajolla,  Calif.; and several great-nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass at the Sacred Heart Church with burial to follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery will be held at a later date and will be announced at that time in The Daily Star.

The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made in Dolly's memory to the R.A. Robinson Emergency Squad, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Joseph E. Litwin

OTEGO — Joseph E. Litwin of Otego passed away at his home on Jan. 28, 2000.

He is a former Westchester County resident.

Mr. Litwin is survived by his wife of 49 years, Evelyn; a daughter, Josephine; and a grandson, George Joseph.

There will be no calling hours.

Ruth F. Parish

ONEONTA — Miss Ruth F. Parish, 89, of Oneonta, died Saturday morning, Jan. 29, 2000, at the Oneonta Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 3, 1910, in Oneonta, the daughter of Henry R. and Maude A. (Rowland) Parish.

Ruth was a licensed beautician owning her own beauty shop, Anne's Beauty Shop in Cooperstown. In 1960, she moved to Florida where she became a licensed beautician and also sold real estate. She had also owned and operated a guest house in Orlando. In June 1981, she returned to Oneonta.

Ruth was a member of the Retired Citizens AARP, the First United Presbyterian Church of Oneonta and also was a former Oneonta Grange Member #1348.

She enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews and their families. Ruth was a very compassionate person who loved others and will be greatly missed by all.

Ruth is survived by two nieces and their husbands, Virginia and Harold Blaauboer of Long Island and Sally and Paul Mednansky of Laurens; two nephews and their wives, Ed and Freda Shultis of Oneonta and Glenn and Grace Shultis of Oneonta; several grandnieces and grandnephews; as well as many great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Ruth was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law: Julia and Edmund Shultis and her brother, Lester Parish.

Funeral and committal services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Doug Gray, retired Presbyterian Minister, officiating.

Burial will be in the spring at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, from 1 p.m. until service time.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made to the American Lung Association, 587 Main St., Suite 109, New York Mills, N.Y. 13417 in loving memory of Ruth F. Parish.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Ivan D. Ploutz Jr.

CHENANGO FORKS — Ivan D. (Chuck) Ploutz Jr., 58, went to be with his Lord unexpectedly on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Penny; mother, Florence Palmer; and his grandparents, Lottie M. and Chapel A. Burton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Sandra Ploutz; his children and their spouses, Mark and Becky Ploutz of Chenango Forks, Judy (Ploutz) Diffendorf of Chenango Forks, Michael and Patty Ploutz of Chenango Forks and Kevin and Susan Ploutz of Englewood, Ohio; his 13 grandchildren, Nicholas Ploutz, Jeremy Percival, Christina Ploutz, Matthew Ploutz, Stephanie Diffendorf, Lacey Ploutz, Stacy Diffendorf, Tia Ploutz, Adam Ploutz, Michaela Ploutz, Spencer Ploutz, Caleb Ploutz and Rachel Ploutz; his father and stepmother; Ivan Sr. and Pat Ploutz of Oneonta; his brothers and sisters, Betty Lingner, Roy and Vi Ploutz, Ron Ploutz, David Ploutz, Kate Garringer, Ned and Mary Palmer and James (Rick) and Linda Palmer; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Chuck attended Chenango Forks schools. He was an active member of the North Fenton United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the National Street Rod Association, and I.B.E.W. Local #83.

He was a very devoted employee of NYSEG as a lineman for 33 years.

Chuck was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a caring man, always willing to help others.

He will be remembered for his "Whinin 39," his sense of humor, and his wonderful laugh.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from the North Fenton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Roger Frederick officiating. Friends may call at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider contributions to the memorial fund at North Fenton United Methodist Church.

Edward P. Remski

BUTTERNUTS — Edward P. Remski, 59, of the town of Butternuts, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 25, 1940, in the Bronx, the son of Edward J. Remski and Sophie (Czukiewicz) Remski.

He had resided in the town of Butternuts for the last several years.

It was his request that he be cremated at the Hillington Crematory.

There will be no calling hours and memorial service will be at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Rena C. Short

FLY CREEK VALLEY — Rena C. Short, 79, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, — 35 years to the day that her husband died — Feb. 1, 1965.

Rena was born Feb. 8, 1920, in the town of Westford, the daughter of Harry and Lucy (Pratt) Roseboom.

She attended the Westville School.

On Aug. 8, 1937, she was married to George L. Short in Westville.

Mrs. Short was a member of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Short is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ramona and Joseph Udovich, with whom she lived; three grandchildren, Colleen Udovich of Syracuse, Tenley Kaye Udovich of Cooperstown and George Udovich at home; three sisters, Dorothy A. Smith of Toddsville, Mary Broas of Montgomery and Bernice Bachanas of Fly Creek; two brothers, Arthur Roseboom of Westville and Don Roseboom of Toddsville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her parents, two sisters, Bertha Teachout and Grace Roseboom; and five brothers, Paul, Robert, Freeman, Stanley and Leon.

For many years she was employed at the former Drybach and the Carrie Co. of Binghamton and the Richards Dress Co. and Dietz Street Manufacturing, Oneonta.

She enjoyed nature and watching the deer and birds near her home.

A funeral service will be at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home, Cooperstown, on Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Eileen Cornwell, pastor of the Fly Creek Methodist Church, officiating.

Calling hours will be on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. when the family will be in attendance. Interment is planned for Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in the Westville Cemetery.

Harriet O'Connor

ANDES — Harriet O'Connor, 72, of Route 28, Andes, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at the Albany Medical Center, Albany.

She was born Nov. 12, 1927, in Andes, the daughter of Fred Ruff and Mabel Worden.

She married Clifton O'Connor on Jan. 30, 1949, in the United Methodist Church, Andes.

She graduated from Andes Central School and attended business school in Kingston.

For 15 years Harriet worked as a teachers aide at the Margaretville Central School.

She was a volunteer at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital thrift shop. She was a lifelong area resident.

She had a great love for her family and was always supportive of all her friends in the community.

Harriet is survived by her husband, Clifton O'Connor of Andes; two sons, Russ O'Connor of Portland, Ore., and Ron O'Connor of Andes; one daughter, Shirley Morse of Margaretville; two brothers, Bill Ruff and Mel Ruff; one sister, Marge Butler; five grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by one sister, Carolyn Ruff.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, 2000. at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville, with the Rev. Dr. George Carpenter officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family at a later date.

Calling hours are Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m., when the family will be present.

Contributions may be made in memory of Harriet O'Connor to the Margaretville Central School, Margaretville.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
