Virginia Crandall
ONEONTA — Virginia R. Crandall, 78, of Oneonta died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
She was born Sept. 8, 1921, in Roxbury, the daughter of the late Dewey and Neva (Ploutz) Caswell.
She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford, in July 1970.
Virginia and her husband were farmers in East Meredith for 17 years before operating the Queen Bee Restaurant in Oneonta until 1968. She recently relocated back to Oneonta from Connecticut, where she had moved in 1975.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Sharon) Bennett of Oneonta, Mrs. Gary (Charlotte) Kopf of Oneonta, and Mrs. Fred (Susan) Powell of Otego; six grandchildren, Scott (Karen) and Eric (Monique) Bennett, Ana and Heather Powell, Brenda Fink and Rhonda Hoffman; six great-grandchildren, Jessica, Harley and Matthew Bennett, Danielle and Miranda Fink and Brianna Hoffman; a brother, Delbert (Margaret) Caswell of Connecticut; and several nieces, and nephews, as well as, her dear friends at Robynwood Adult Home.
Services will be Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Judy Thistle officiating, Spring interment will be in Oneonta Plains Cemetery. The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Lung Association, 587 Main St., Suite 109, New York Mills, N.Y. in Virginia's memory.

Albert A. Loomis
CHERRY VALLEY — Mr. Albert Andrew Loomis, 67, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in Cherry Valley.
He was born Feb. 26, 1932, in German Flats, the son of Robert and Helen (Hart) Loomis.
He married Laraine Morton; she survives.
Mr. Loomis was in the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. He drove a truck, hauling cars, for M & G Convoy until his retirement in 1987.
Besides his wife, Laraine Loomis of Cherry valley, he is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Dale Clinton of Cooperstown, Susan and Wesley O'Hare of Odessa, Mo., and Kathy and Michael Waro of Cooperstown; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Ingersoll and his wife, Margaret of West Winfield; sisters-in-law, Janice Loomis of Mohawk, Joan Weiner of Cherry Valley, Norma Duncan of Cooperstown; a brother-in-law, David Morton of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Edward Loomis, in 1998; a mother-in-law, Gladys Welch, in 1999; and a brother-in-law, George Weiner, in 1997.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with Mr. Lyman Johnson officiating. Mr. Loomis will be placed in the Ottman Funeral Home private vault to await spring burial in the Schuyler Lake Cemetery, Schuyler Lake.
Calling hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at the funeral home.

Harold N. Robinson
FRANKLIN — Mr. Harold N. Robinson, 75, of Franklin, died peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Monday, Feb. 21, 2000.
He was born Dec. 1, 1924, in Maryland, the son of Clair and Bertha (Hitchman) Robinson.
He married Frances A. Westcott on Aug. 13, 1947, in Treadwell.
Harold served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.
He was a supervisor for Asplundh Tree Expert Co. for 38 years having retired in 1986.
Harold is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Frances Robinson of Franklin; two daughters and a son-in-law, Suzanne Ferguson of Treadwell and Kathleen and Vincent Taylor of Bainbridge; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Nancy Robinson of Chester and Daniel and Deborah Robinson of Liverpool; six grandchildren, Melissa Ferguson, Jennifer Robinson, Beth and Laura Robinson and Brenton and Kristen Taylor; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Taylor and Ruth Powell; three brothers, Raymond, Clyde and Kenneth Robinson; and several nieces and nephews
A service to celebrate the life of Harold N. Robinson will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with Chaplain John S. Dawson, Spiritual Care Coordinator for the Catskill Area Hospice, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.
It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in loving memory of Harold N. Robinson.

Alice G. Brand
PALM COAST, Fla. — Alice G. Brand, 88, of 31 Breeze Hill Lane, Palm Coast, Fla., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at home with her family after fighting a lengthy cancer battle with dignity and great bravery.
She was born May 25, 1911, in Watertown, N.Y., the daughter of Edward and Nellie (Schultz) Greene.
She married Donald L. Brand on March 8, 1942. He predeceased her Oct. 23, 1979.
She is survived by two children: daughter, Susan Nett of Palm Coast, Fla., and friend George Monser of Oneonta, N.Y., and a son and daughter-in-law, Brooks and Denna Brand of Bunnell, Fla.; a grandson, Christopher Brand of Palm Coast; three sisters, Martha Eldridge of San Mateo, Fla., and Mildred Greene and Nora Schofield of Watertown, N.Y.; a brother, Orlin Greene of Adams Center, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Georgia Andrus of Palm Coast; and many nieces and nephews.
Five brothers, Peter, David, Joseph, Alfred and Stanley Greene preceded her in death.
Mrs. Brand was a graduate of House of the Good Samaritan Hospital, Watertown. She attended Ruthergers University and upon completion set up the Coronary Care Unit at Fox Hospital, Oneonta, N.Y., and for 18 years was the head supervisor.
She moved to Palm Coast from Oneonta, N.Y., in 1983.
She was a volunteer for the Palm Coast Public Library, an avid bowler and enjoyed her bridge club.
At her request she will be cremated. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements are entrusted to Mr. Leo Kenneth, Coastal Cremation.

Charles Carrigan Jr.
ONEONTA — Charles Carrigan Jr., 72, of Oneonta, died unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
He was born July 6, 1927, in New York City, the son of Charles and Gertrude (Clark) Carrigan Sr.
Mr. Carrigan was never married.
He graduated from Fordam Prep and Columbia University in New York City and was a veteran of World War II, having served with the United States Navy Submarine Service.
Mr. Carrigan was a self-employed TV and radio repairman after moving to Oneonta in 1980. He had previously owned and operated a TV sales and service store in Boston, Mass., and had also been employed by Abott Laboratories.
He was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta and the Oneonta American Legion Post 259.
Mr. Carrigan is survived by several cousins, including Jane Conklin and Geraldine Holcomb, both of Oneonta.
A graveside service will be held later in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.
There will be no calling hours.

Olof C. Johnson
CENTRAL BRIDGE — The Rev. Olof C. Johnson, 90, of Church Street, Central Bridge, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at his home with his family at his side.
The Rev. Johnson was born on Feb. 28, 1909, in Gloversville, the son of Olof and Lula Johnson. He had resided in Central Bridge since 1963 and had previously resided in Castleton, Vt.
He graduated from Syracuse Business College in 1928, Gordon College of Theology in 1934 and Andover Newton in 1942. He was ordained in the Troy Conference in 1942.
He served as minister from 1937 to 1997 in the following churches: North Shrewsbury Baptist Church, Cuttingsville Methodist Church, Pittsfield Congregational Church, Stockbridge Church, Gaysville Church, Castleton Federated Church, Mendon Methodist Church and the East Hubbarton Baptist Church, all in Vermont. The Rev. Johnson served the area as pastor of the United Methodist Church of Barnerville, Central Bridge and Grosvenors Corners. He later served as pastor of the Duanesburg-Florida Baptist Church and the Broome Center Chapel Church.
The Rev. Johnson was a 4-H leader in Rutland County from 1938 until 996. For more than 50 years, he faithfully attended the Rutland County Fair and operated a lunch counter during the week of Labor Day. He was a member of the Castleton and Central Bridge Volunteer Fire Departments. He was a member of the Schoharie County Voluntary Firemen's Association, the Fire Advisory Board and the Tri-County Volunteer Firemen's Association. He served on the Schoharie County Board of Assessment Review for many years. He was a mason in the Mount Moriah Lodge of Wallingford, Vt., and a past chaplain of the Cairo Temple of Rutland, Vt. He was also a grand prelate in the Grand Commandery of Vermont.
He was chaplain of many organizations including The New York State Police Benevolent Association, Northeast Police Conference and the Police Conference of New York and the Capital District New York State Police.
He was chairman of the Schoharie Recreational Committee and was instrumental in the revitalization of the Schoharie Village Swimming Pool.
He was married to Elizabeth Hager on June 7, 1942, and until her death on Feb. 17, 1986.
Survivors include four sons, Olof and his wife, Jane, of Concord, Mass., Andy and his wife, Sabrina, of South Burlington, Vt., John of Addison, Texas, and Eric and his wife, Carol, of Central Bridge; two sisters, Ester Langworthy of Niskayuna and Ruth Gifford; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Johnson has made an anatomical gift to the Albany Medical College.
A memorial service to celebrate the Rev. Johnson's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, 2000, at the Central Bridge United Methodist Church, Church Street, Central Bridge.
Burial will be held at a later date in South Deerfield, Mass.
A memorial service will be held in Castleton, Vt., at a later time to be announced.

Beatrice Simmons
ONEONTA — Beatrice I. Simmons, 86, of Oneonta, died Feb. 22, 2000, at A.O. Fox Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 26, 1913, in Maryland, the daughter of Andrew and Mildred (Ives) Gobel.
She was married to former city of Oneonta Police Chief Robert J. Simmons on June 13, 1934, in Oneonta. Chief Simmons died July 11, 1968.
Mrs. Simmons was a graduate of Oneonta High School, Class of 1931, and was a lifelong area resident. She was a buyer for the jewelry and silverware department of Bresee's Oneonta Department Store for 37 years.
In 1968 she was employed at the State University College at Oneonta in the business office, a position she held until her retirement in 1978.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Oneonta, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Order of Amaranth for 60 years and served in the George F. Johnson Court.
She was also a member of Retired CSEA Employees and the SUCO Golden Retirees.
She is survived by one son, Douglas Simmons of Fort Plain; one grandson, Brett Simmons of Hartland, Vt.; one granddaughter, Kelly Bambach of Chesnee, S.C.; a great-grandson, Mitchell Simmons of Hartland, Vt.; two brothers, Harold Gobel of Essex Junction, Vt., and Donald Gobel of Apalachin; five sisters, Hilda Transue of Johnson City, Gladys Quinn of Mechanicsville, Nedra Sobol of Oneonta, Adah Byam of Syracuse and Millicent Combs of Walton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by a sister, Dorothy Gobel, and two nephews, Garreth Gobel and Andrew Gobel.
Memorial services will be held at noon Saturday, March 4, 2000, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta with the Rev. William D. Bouton, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, officiating.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be later in Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Susan Beisler
STAMFORD — Mrs. Susan Scarborough Beisler of Railroad Avenue, Stamford, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at the Carolinas Medical Center of Charlotte, N.C., after a brief illness.
Susan was born Aug. 19, 1942, in Pinehurst, N.C., the daughter of Sterling C. and Ruth Wood Scarborough.
She married Ralph W. Beisler, who survives, on July 29, 1967 in Hamlet, N.C.
Susan was a graduate of Hamlet High School and Lenoir Rhyne College, Hickory, N.C. She also did graduate work at Ohio University, Athens, Ohio.
She was co-owner of Railroad Avenue Supply Co. Inc. of Stamford from 1976 until her death. She also was a licensed real estate salesperson for Century 21, T.L. Wright Realty from 1985 to 1987. Susan was a member of the Stamford Rotary Club, and a former member of the Stamford Village Improvement Association.
She was a member, elder and past treasurer of the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, Davenport.
In addition to her husband, Susan is survived by her mother; a sister, Savannah Scarborough; and sister-in-law, Irma Frye, all of Hamlet, N.C.; two sons, Andrew and Theodore Beisler of Albany; and a granddaughter, Mackenzi Beisler of East Greenbush.
She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Susan was predeceased by a brother, John Scarborough.
A memorial service to celebrate Susan's life will be held at the North Kortright Presbyterian Church, located on state Route 23, between Stamford and Davenport at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2000.
A memorial service will also be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hamlet, N.C., at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26, 2000.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Charlotte Valley Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 184, Davenport, N.Y. 13750 or to the R.A. Robinson Rescue Squad, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.
Burial will be private.

Charles E. Secor
STUART, Fla. — Charles Ernest Secor died on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, at his home in Stuart, Fla., after a brief illness.
He was born on June 6, 1945, the son of Lynn and Olive (Franklin) Secor.
He attended Morris Central School and Cobleskill Central, where he graduated in 1963. He then attended Hartwick College, graduating in 1967. He later took graduate work at McGill and Drew Universities.
Charles served, for a few years, as pastor of small churches in the Northern New York area of the United Methodist Church.
He was twice married and divorced.
Charles is survived by his father, Lynn Secor of Richfield Springs and Montverde, Fla.; a sister, Donna (Mrs. Ward) Liebi of Montverde; and a brother, John Secor and his wife, Susan, of Remsen and sons, Daniel, Matthew and Adam. Area survivors include Aunt Ruth Searles of Unadilla, Aunt Helen (Mrs. Robert) Groves of Otego, and cousin, Francis Secor, and his wife, Glenda, of Otego.
For the past 25 years he has lived in Florida working mostly in the convenience store field. At the time of his death he was with Coastal Oil Co. in Stuart where he had been employed for 13 years.
Charles was a registered organ donor and his remains are being cremated.
A memorial service was held in Stuart on Feb. 10, 2000, and a later memorial service will be held in New York, with burial in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hospice or a charity of one's choice.
