Rae D. Ryan, age 89, of 60 Church Street, Saranac Lake, died Thursday, September 14, 2006 at Adirondack Medical Center. Born in Peasleeville, New York on September 01, 1917, she was the daughter of Randal and Mabel (McKee) Denton. She married Kenneth Ryan on May 17, 1936 in Saranac Lake, New York. He predeceased her in 1988. Mrs. Ryan moved to Saranac Lake from Peasleville, NY following graduation from Peru Central School. She had been employed by Adirondack National Bank for several years and later for Marine Midland Bank in the loan department until her retirement in 1982. She is a past member of the Saranac Lake Ladies of the Elks, and was a member of the Saranac Lake Adult Center and the First United Methodist Church. She is survived by one daughter Joan Hockey and her husband Thomas of Winchester, VA, four grandchildren Bonnie Blanchard and her husband Ken of  West Virginia; Cheryl Ziegler and husband Bob of North Carolina; Virginia Williams and her husband Ray of Florida; and Patricia Hockey of Virginia, VA; four great grandchildren Michael Ziegler, Craig Chambers, Ashley Cummings, and Jennifer Blanchard; one great great granddaughter Ella Pualiani Ziegler and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; one grandson Paul Hockey, and three sisters and one brother. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Saturday, September 16, 2006 from 11AM -12PM.. A funeral service will immediately follow at 12:00 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Mark Demers officiating. Burial will take place at 2:30 PM at the Peasleeville Cemetery in Peasleeville, New York. Friends wishing to remember Rae D. Ryan may make memorial contributions to Saranac Lake Adult Center or Tri-Lakes Humane Society in care of the funeral home.

Herbert A. B. Dramm, 85, of Church Street in Lake Placid, passed away Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006 at his home. Born April 10, 1921 in Havelburg, Berlin, Germany, he was the son of Otto and Helena (Schniedewint) Dramm. Mr. Dramm worked as an automotive engineer for Porsche Sports Car Company from 1956 to 1971. He is survived by his wife Elfriede (Meyer) Dramm; a son, Uwe Herbert Dramm and his wife Denise of Lake Placid; a brother, Edgar O. Dramm of Berlin, Germany; three grandchildren: Tyra Dramm, Stephan Dramm and Ara Dramm, all of Lake Placid; two great-grandchildren: Helena and Annalisa Dramm, both of Lake Placid; his aunt Utti Quade; and two nephews: Ralph and Frank Quade. There are no calling hours. Services will be held at the convenience of the family. The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.

Norman E. Jarvis, 86, of 44 Chaney Ave. and Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2006 surrounded by his family after a long illness. Born Aug. 28. 1920 in Tupper Lake, he was the son of Edward and Gertrude (Gaff) Jarvis. He and Cecile Anna Lalumiere were joined in marriage by Monsignor Dominica Brault at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake in 1953. Mr. Jarvis completed his education at Tupper Lake High School in 1937. He later took brief courses at General Motors Technical Institute in Tarrytown as a certified automobile technician. Early on Mr. Jarvis worked at the Oval Wood Dish plant in Tupper Lake, then as a flooring installer for Newman & Holmes in Saranac Lake and then Standard Desk in Herkimer. He later trained as a rifle site inspector and worked in that capacity for several years at Remington Arms in Herkimer. He owned and operated Tupper Lake Taxi in the late 1940s. He then worked at Easy Washer in Syracuse, returning to Tupper Lake in the early 1950s. He worked briefly for Somers garage as a mechanic, followed by many years at Northland Motors, one year as a salesman, then back to his first love, “mechanics.” In later years he worked several years at Bellows garage, Upstate Garage and self-employment from 1982 to 1985. Mr. Jarvis’ avocation was music. He started playing “gigs” while in his teens. He was especially proud of an orchestra he founded, The Rhythm Ranch Boys, who played various night spots in Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake and had a weekly half hour radio show on the Saranac Lake Radio Station in the late 1930s and early ‘40s. He resumed playing in the late ‘40s and continued through to the mid-’70s. Over the years, he played at such places as the Mountain Room at the Altamont Hotel, the Waukesha, or “the Wash” and the Tupper Lake Country Club. Mr. Jarvis played all string instruments and all types of contemporary music. His special loves were playing country music, bass guitar and fiddling for square dancing. Mr. Jarvis is survived by his wife of 53 years; two brothers: Lester of Jamesville and Marshall of Tupper Lake; three sisters: Shirley Foltz of Kennesaw, Ga., Nikki (Yulah) Gedney of Whitesboro and Phyllis Jarvis of Tupper Lake. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Howard. Calling hours for Mr. Jarvis were held Friday, Sept. 8 at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at St. Alphonsus Church with the Rev. Kris Lauzon as the celebrant. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider St. Alphonsus Church, Mercy Healthcare Center, the Tupper Lake Volunteer Rescue Squad or the Goff-Nelson Memorial Library.

Doris Landry, age 83, of 14 Kiwassa Road Apartment 6D, Saranac Lake, died Friday, September 08, 2006 at Adirondack Medical Center. Born in Lake Clear, New York on July 27, 1923, she was the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Savoie) Martell. She married Lloyd Landry who predeceased her in 2002. Mrs. Landry has been a life long resident of the Saranac Lake area. She is a veteran of the United States Army serving in the 5th WAC Hospital CO 2/1. She had been employed at the Cedar Post in Saranac Lake and later worked for the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake for 12 years until her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Landry is a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard, and V.F.W. Ladies Aux. She also served on the Harrietstown Housing Authority Board where she served as Treasurer and Secretary. She is survived by eight children Karen  Woods and her husband Richard of Spring Hill, FL, Marcia Pollard of Saranac Lake, NY, Theodore Landry of Tempe, AZ, Nadeine Landry- Jones and her husband Vance of Baytown, TX, William Landry of Tupper Lake, NY, Thelma Rock & her husband Jay Pooler of Queensburry, NY, Joseph Landry & his wife Emily of Georgia, James Landry and his companion Jenda Cotton of Saranac Lake, NY, 10 Grandchildren, one brother Richard Martell of Tupper Lake, NY, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, 10 brothers and sisters Hildred Stewart, Mary Buckland, Theresa Girard-Babbie, Leona Jones, Ernestine Martell, Ernest Martell, Sheila Abare, Kenneth Martell, and Ronald Martell. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Monday, September 11, 2006 from 2PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM. A Catholic Daughters Prayer Service will take place at 7:40 PM Monday evening. A VFW Ladies Auxiliary Service will immediately follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 A.M. at St. Bernard's Church., with Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Following cremation burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Joyce A. Marshall, 59, of Cascade Road in Lake Placid, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born Sept. 21, 1946 in Punxsutawney, Pa., she was the daughter of William R. and Bertha (Hale) Hoch. A graduate of Hobe Sound College in Hobe Sound, Fla., Mrs. Marshall worked as a high school teacher, teaching seventh and eighth grade at the Christian Center Academy in Saranac Lake, God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio and Penn View Bible School in Penn Creek, Pa. She had worked as a personal administrative assistant for Joe Barile for four years followed by two years for the town of North Elba Planning and Codes Department. She was also a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church in Lake Placid. Mrs. Marshall is survived by her husband Charles “Chip” Marshall of Lake Placid; her mother of Mahaffey, Pa.; three sons: Charles Marshall and his wife Kim of Indianapolis, Ind., Aaron Marshall and his wife Lanee of Arlington, Ind. and Joel Marshall and his wife Rebecca of Erlanger, Ky; two sisters: Jeanne Kuhns and Cathy Brown; five brothers: Tim Hoch, Gerald Hoch, Dave Hoch, Tom Hoch and Dennis Hoch; and several nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid with the Rev. Donald Meyers of Schenectady officiating. Burial will follow in North Elba Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Mrs. Marshall are asked to make donations in her memory to the Joyce A. Marshall Scholarship Fund, c/o God’s Bible School, 1810 Young St., Cincinnati, OH 45202.

Catherine M. Sabin, 90, of Tupper Lake died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2006 at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid where she had resided for the past two years. Born Dec. 6, 1915 in St. Regis Falls, she was the daughter of Joseph LaGray and Maggie (Gokey) LaGray. The family moved from St. Regis Falls to the Tupper Lake area and settled in Conifer where Mr. LaGray worked in the Conifer Mill. Catherine’s mother died in 1925 when Catherine was 10 years old and she became cook, housekeeper and mother to her brothers and sisters. She attended school in Piercefield with her brothers and sisters. Her father died in 1938. Catherine’s first marriage gave her two sons and in 1937, she married Vernon “Red” Sabin. Her third son Vernon “Junior” was born in 1938. The family made their home in Tupper Lake. Red was a truck driver and Catherine did laundry work. Over the years she worked for  Woods Brothers Laundry, Seacon Lodge and the Federal/State Developmental Center in Tupper Lake, later known as Sunmount, where she retired in December 1978. She loved children and always seemed to have one around the house. For a few years she had children from New York in the Fresh Air Program spend the summer at her house. She was also a Girl Scout leader for many years. Catherine loved cooking, sewing and was a Nascar fan. She also loved dogs and always had one close to her. Her dog “Tiny” was a big part of her family. She is survived by three sons: Richard “Bucky” Clark and his wife Barbara of Tupper Lake, Donald “Don” Clark and his wife Joyce of Malone and Vern “Junior” Sabin of Tupper Lake; a sister, Wilma Baker of Cleveland, Ohio; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, two brothers: Joseph and James LaGray; two sisters: Claire Sauvie and Margaret Sidney; and a grandson, Jerry M. Sabin. Calling hours will be held from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8 at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Holy Name Church in Tupper Lake. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Tupper Lake Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Squad.

Clara Ann Yaworski, 49, of Main Street in Tupper Lake, died Monday, Sept. 4, 2006 surrounded by family. Born Nov. 30, 1956 in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of Joseph and Eva (Horton) Jessie. Clara was a graduate of Tupper Lake High School class of 1975 and Paul Smith’s Culinary Arts in 1985. She worked for a time at the Hotel Saranac and The Point on Upper Saranac Lake. On April 9, 1988, she married Jon Yaworski at Holy Name Church in Tupper Lake. She then returned to college to become a nurse, receiving her LPN from North Country Community College in 2003. She was then employed for a time at Mercy Healthcare Center in Tupper Lake. The joys of her life were her family and gardening. She is survived by her husband, Jon; two daughters: Aimee Poirier and Mary Yaworski of Tupper Lake; three sons: David LaPlante of Plattsburgh, and John and Joseph Yaworski, both of Tupper Lake; two grandchildren: Ashlyn and Levi; one sister, Mary Jo Wells and her husband Lee of Tupper Lake; four brothers: Joseph of Raleigh, N.C., Daniel, Francis and Leon and his wife Lori, all of Tupper Lake. She was predeceased by her parents. Calling hours will be held on from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7 at the Fortune-Keough-Rennell Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8 at Holy Name Church in Tupper Lake. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider High Peaks Hospice.

Tyler Steele Leidig, 21, a Saranac Lake native, Corporal in the United States Marine Corps and Iraqi War veteran, stationed at Camp Pendleton,  Calif., died Saturday morning, Dec. 23, 2006 as a result of a local automobile accident. Born March 31, 1985, in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Janie Bevilacqua and Richard Leidig. Tyler graduated from Saranac Lake Central High School in 2004, where he played varsity basketball, and enlisted in the Marine Corps later the same year, undergoing basic training at Paris Island, N.C. He then specialized in aviation mechanics enabling him to help keep aircraft on their missions over Iraq for his seven-month tour earlier this year. In the past weeks, Tyler trained as an observer aboard helicopters.
Two weeks before his death, Tyler married his longtime love, Sara Pozdzich, in California and saved its news as a Christmas surprise for his family and friends. Tyler Leidig was a quiet, modest, but very generous spirit, fiercely loyal and supportive of his family and friends. A testament to his humanity is the many close friends he developed and maintained over his short life, and their love for him. Tyler is survived by his wife; his parents; his stepmother, Kathy Leidig; his sisters: Maria Leidig and Gabrielle Bevilacqua; his brother and fellow Marine, William Leidig; his mother-in-law, Tracy Pozdzich; father-in-law, Craig Pozdzich; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Bevilacqua; paternal grandparents, Richard and Lucy Leidig; a large family of uncles, aunts and cousins and a wide circle of friends. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Carl Bevilacqua. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Catholic funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery. A reception and celebration of his life will commence afterward at the Mt. Pisgah Ski Lodge. The family asks that those wishing to honor Tyler’s memory and spirit may take a moment out of their day to call an old friend or hug a loved one and tell that person how much they are valued. Sarah Horner, 91, formerly of Forest Home Road in Saranac Lake, passed away at the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid on Dec. 24, 2006. Born June 22, 1915 in Round Lake, she was the daughter of William and Mary Jane (Ruddock) Russom. Mrs. Horner had been a resident of the Uihlein Mercy Center since April 3, 2003. She was the widow of William F. Horner. She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn Chuba and her husband Terry of Saranac Lake; a brother, Alex Russom; two sisters: Kay Bussing and Barbara Hucthinson; and eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by two daughters: Judith Zachow and Olivia Funk; and five brothers: Roger, Barney, Robert, Daniel and Archie Russom. There are no public calling hours and interment will be at the convenience of the family. The Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.

Myron “Rube” Skeels, 87, of 48 McClelland St., Saranac Lake, passed away Monday, Dec. 25, 2006 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born April 5, 1919 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Myron and Elizabeth (O’Leary) Skeels. Mr. Skeels had lived for 47 years at his McClelland Street home. He and Claire (Saumier) Skeels married on Dec. 4, 1942 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Rochester. They had been married for 64 years. Rube joined the US Navy July 1st, 1943, and served proudly in both theaters of World War II as a radar man third class and earned the WWII Victory medal. He was honorably discharged Dec. 9th, 1945. He had been employed as a telephone installer for 35 years here in Saranac Lake and retired in 1980. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mr. Myron “Rube” Skeels was a Saranac Lake Village trustee in the 1960s. Rube loved all sports and traveling and he enjoyed his family and their annual reunions. Rube attended and graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1938 and was inducted into the Saranac Lake High School Hall of Fame for receiving 4 varsity letters in 4 years; football, hockey, track and baseball. He was also the star player of the Brighton Blues baseball team, later managing the team. Rube is survived by five children: Brian Skeels and his wife Debbie of Houston, Bob Skeels and his wife Darlene of Simsbury, Conn., Dick Skeels and his wife Trisha of Amsterdam, N.Y., Helen Skeels of Clifton Park, and Kathy (Skeels) and her husband Mike Hahn of Ballentine, S.C.; seven grandchildren: Kelli Skeels Anderson, Kristina Skeels O’Brien, Jason Mills, Jonathon Skeels, Jennifer Skeels, Christina Skeels and Karen Skeels; and five great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.Calling hours will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 28 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will be held at 11:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29 at St. Bernard’s Church with a burial to follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery. Friends wishing to remember Rube may make a memorial donation to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Beatrice June Shannon, 69, of Tupper Lake died Saturday, Dec. 23 at St. Mary Hospice Center in Rochester. Born on Aug. 2, 1937 in Syracuse, she was the daughter of Frederick and Theda (Thompson) Mott. She married Harold Shannon on Sept. 6, 1958 in Potsdam and they relocated to Tupper Lake in 1965. Beatrice was employed at Sunmount DDSO for several years until retiring for health reasons. She later earned an associate in applied science degree from North Country Community College in secretarial science and was then employed at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Mrs. Shannon was active in the Tupper Lake community volunteering as a literacy volunteer as a tutor, Salvation Army representative, delivered Meals on Wheels with her husband, clerical volunteer to the Tupper Lake Adult Center, served as a Food Pantry recruiter and trainer, founder of the Girl Scouts of America troop at Sunmount DDSO, and was an active member of St. Thomas Episcopal church. Bea was an avid reader, gardener and member of the local theatre group, “Break a Leg Productions.” She is survived by two sons: Harold of Massena and Patrick of Rochester; three sisters: Carol Sperling of Parish, Peggy Dashnaw of Massena and Jane Henry of Ocala, Fla; one brother: Larry Mott of Pulaski; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30 at St. Thomas church in Tupper Lake. Burial will follow will follow in St. Thomas cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are asked to consider the Tupper Lake food pantry.Arrangements are with the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake.
