Vincent Carmody
SIDNEY — Vincent Carmody, 86, of Sidney, passed away Friday, March 3, 2000, at his home.
He was born to the late Daniel and Anna (Doherty) Carmody on March 16, 1913, in Queens. Vincent married Leona Rowland on July 1, 1937, in Hawley, Pa.
He retired from ECD of Bendix as a quality control analyst.
Vincent was a member of the Lodge of the Elks, Sidney, and the Loyal Order of Moose, Sidney, as well as a member of the Sidney Golf and Country Club.
He is survived by his wife, Leona Carmody of Sidney; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Leo Carmody of Sidney and James and Deborah Carmody of Stuart, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Leo and Barbara Carmody of Sharpsburg, N.C.; five grandchildren, Daniel and Shirley Costello and their daughter, Devon, of Beach Haven, N.J., Donna and Brent Hansen and their children, Brigitte and Brent of Afton, Kathy and Darren Oswald and their children, Stefanie, Melissa and Cameron of Afton, Michael and Heather Costello and their children, Jake and Natalie of Arnold, Md., and Rebecca Carmody of Orlando, Fla.
A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 13, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Honesdale, Pa., at 10 a.m.
At Vincent's request, there will be no calling hours.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

William Mehegan
DELHI — William Albert Mehegan, 62, of Walton, died March 3, 2000, at Countryside Care Center in Delhi after a long illness.
Bill was born Jan. 15, 1938, in New York City, the son of William Albert and Helen Hurley Mehegan.
He married Mary Jane Tennant on Oct. 10, 1964, at St. John the Baptist Church in Walton.
He graduated from Sewanka High School on Long Island.
Bill was a member of St. John the Baptist R.C. Church. He served in the Armed Forces from 1961-1963 and was a lifelong member of the American Legion. He was an avid baseball fan and loved pets.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, of Walton; his mother, Helen Aste, of Titusville, Fla.; an aunt, Arlene Anslow, of Walton; and several nieces and nephews.
His brother Ronald Mehegan predeceased him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, March 6, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Walton, with the Rev. Joseph Manerowski as celebrant. Burial in Walton Cemetery will follow.
Friends may call at the Clark and Winter Funeral Home, Walton, on Sunday, when the family will be in attendance from 7-9 p.m.
Memorials to the Delaware County Humane Society, Delhi, in the name of Bill Mehegan would be appreciated.
Raymond Smith Sr.
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Raymond G. Smith Sr., 81, of Butternut Road, died peacefully on Friday evening, March 3, 2000, in his home with his family at his side.
He was born on Jan. 21, 1919, in Van Hornesville, son of the late Seward F. and Mary J. Werner Smith.
Ray was raised on the family farm, in Van Hornesville and was a graduate of Van Hornesville Central School.
On July 21, 1937, he married Hazel Kinney in Smyrna. With their five children they lived in Van Hornesville, where he owned and operated his own farm until 1972, then moving to Richfield Springs. For 20 years he was a farm machinery technician, working for Nelson C. Wissick's John Deere Dealership in Herkimer, John Carl Watkins Dealership in West Windfield, and Springer Ford Dealership in Richfield Springs retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the Van Hornesville Universalist Church, the Van Hornesville Odd Fellows, Herkimer County Farm Bureau.
An avid fisherman and hunter, he at one time owned and operated Ray's Bait Shop in Richfield Springs as well as running a bulldozer for the Conservation Department.
Up until a few years ago he was an avid bowler, bowling in various area leagues.
Surviving besides his wife of 62 years, Hazel; are two sons and their wives, Raymond G. Jr. and Patricia Smith and Norman P. and Lana Smith, all of Richfield Springs; three daughters and their husbands, Rowena and Mort Robertson of Richfield Springs, Rosemary and Victor Paluzzi of Canajoharie, and Virginia R. and Samuel Lamanna Jr. of Mohawk; a brother, Owen S. Smith of Naples, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. William Harkins, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Springfield Center Cemetery later this spring.
Calling hours will be on Monday from 6 to 9 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 W. James St., Richfield Springs.
Memorial donations may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice or the charity of one's choice.
Harper Fairbairn
MIDDLETOWN — Harper Fairbairn, a lifelong area resident and retired employee of the town of Middletown and village of Fleischmanns, died early Sunday morning, March 5, 2000, of complications following heart surgery. He was 65.
A quintessential country boy at heart, Mr. Fairbairn grew up with his parents, Hilda and Miller, on their dairy farm in Dry Brook. From childhood, he helped milk the cows and pitched in with chores, developing the strong work ethic he was known for throughout his life.
Mr. Fairbairn graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1953, and married Tillie Ballard of Halcott Center the following year. On Feb. 7, they celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary.
He and his wife moved to Fleischmanns, where they lived until moving to Margaretville in 1991.
A man who loved working outdoors and was gifted at building or repairing almost anything, Mr. Fairbairn worked for both the village of Fleischmanns and the town of Middletown for 34 years before poor health forced him to retire in 1998.
A dedicated family man, he worked seven days a week for years to provide for his wife and children, and was known for his sharp wit and courage in the face of difficult situations.
Mr. Fairbairn was a member of the Fleischmanns Fire Department and the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church,
He leaves his wife, Tillie (Ballard); a daughter, Melanie Yaekel of Margaretville and her husband, Stephen; a son, Gregg of Waterford; two children who came to live with the family as infants, Randy Day of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and Genevieve Day Wyckoff of Highmount; a sister, Lynda Ploutz, and her husband, Anthony, of Dry Brook; seven grandchildren, Tara and Carly Yaekel and Melissa, Joanna, Micah, Abigail and Sarah Wyckoff; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Fleischmanns. Burial will be in Halcott Cemetery. Friends will be received Monday, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.B. Gormley Funeral Home, Main Street, Phoenicia.
Contributions may be made to the Fleischmanns United Methodist Church.
Esther M. Munford
COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Esther McNellan Munford, 93, of Cooperstown, died Friday evening, March 3, 2000, at The Meadows.
She was born on Oct. 2, 1906, in Cooperstown, a daughter of Thomas F. and Nellie (Doran) McNellan.
She married William Munford on March 28, 1932, in Cooperstown. Mr. Munford died on Dec. 12, 1963.
Esther was a native of Cooperstown and graduated from Cooperstown High School in the Class of 1926. She was also a graduate of Knox School for Girls in Cooperstown, where she studied secretarial science. For the next five years she was employed by The Cooperstown Newspapers and was also employed by O.P.A. from 1942 until 1945. She then joined the staff of The First National Bank in Cooperstown, where she served as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1968.
Since the mid-1980s Esther had resided at The Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home, moving to The Meadows in January 2000.
She was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown and The Native Daughters of Cooperstown.
Esther is survived by several cousins, including Patricia Taugher, Stuart Taugher, Owen Kraham and his wife, Anna, and Lawrence Doran, all of Cooperstown and Eileen Goodenow of Utica.
She was predeceased by two cousins, Miss Ann F. McNellan, who died Aug. 15, 1990, and James Doran, who died Dec. 21, 1983.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with Fr. John R. Roos, pastor of St. Mary's Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Cooperstown, officiating. Burial will be later at Lakewood Cemetery in Cooperstown.
Expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to The Meadows Activities Fund, 140 County Highway 33W, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Andrew J. Sejersen
BAINBRIDGE — Andrew J. Sejersen, 75, of Bainbridge passed away Sunday, March 5, 2000, at the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford.
He was born to the late J. Andrew and Karen (Jensen) Sejersen on June 11, 1924, in Bainbridge.
Andy served his country in the United States Navy in the Pacific Theatre Air Corp. in World War II.
He married Barbara Landers on Aug. 9, 1947, in Bainbridge.
Andy was a dairy farmer and also worked for the D&H Railroad and did masonry work. After retiring he was a service technician for America Breeders Service.
Andy was a charter member of the Bainbridge Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sejersen of Bainbridge; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Betty Sejersen of Bainbridge and Neils and Mary Ann Sejersen of Bainbridge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beth and Ron Bowen of Spencer and Carla and Ray Zukowski of Abingdon, Md.; five grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Edna and John Burke of Somerville, N.J.; brother and sister-in-law, John and Marie Sejersen of Zephyrhills, Fla.; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Andy is predeceased by a brother, Carl T.; and two sisters, Anita and Dorothy.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 10:30 a.m. Friends may call Tuesday, March 7, from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Andy's name to the New York State Veterans Home, Oxford.

Lisa M. Hunter
ONEONTA — Lisa M. Hunter, 36, of Oneonta, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 4, 2000, at the Albany Medical Center.
She was born June 26, 1963, in Flushing.
She married Scott Hunter on Oct. 28, 1989, in Bovina.
Mrs. Hunter was a longtime area resident, having graduated from Delaware Academy in Delhi and also received her registered nursing degree from the State University College of Technology at Delhi.
Lisa was employed as a registered nurse in the OB/GYN ward at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta and was also working toward her bachelor's degree in nursing at Hartwick College.
Lisa is survived by her husband, Scott, and three sons, Scott, Ryan and Cory at home; her mother and father, Carol and Stephen Cadette of Flushing; her maternal grandfather, Edward Steck of Otego; and three brothers and a sister, William Cunningham of Manhattan, Theresa Cunningham of Vestal, John Cunningham of Geneva and Brian Cunningham of Manhattan; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
She was predeceased by her maternal grandmother, Mildred Steck.
Memorial services will be held at 4 p.m., Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. John Dawson, Catskill Area Hospice chaplain, officiating.
There will be no calling hours.

Harold A. Buman
NINEVEH — Harold A. Buman, 86, of Nineveh, passed away Friday, March, 3, 2000, at The Hospital, Sidney.
He was born March 13, 1913, to the late Albert and Mae (Gardner) Buman.
Harold married Thelma Merrill on Oct. 15, 1936, in Waverly. She predeceased him on Nov. 18, 1979.
Harold was a farmer and later was employed by the town of Sanford Highway Department, where he retired.
He was a member of the Afton Grange #1515, the New York State Grange, and the Pomona Grange.
Harold is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Duane and Barbara Buman of Nineveh and Gary Buman of Oneonta; one daughter, Linda Buman of Nineveh; two grandchildren, Steven Buman of Waverly and Andrew Buman of Lewis, Del.
He was predeceased by a sister, Edith Hoyt.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 6, 2000, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 8 p.m., with the Rev. Douglas Horne, of the United Presbyterian Church, Afton, officiating. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, before the service. Burial will be in Perch Pond Hill Cemetery in the spring.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Afton Emergency Squad.

Grace Elmendorf
BURKE, Va. — Grace Lillian Manny Elmendorf, 88, died on Thursday, March 2, 2000.
She was the beloved wife of the late New York State Trooper Edward C. Elmendorf.
She was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Oneonta, N.Y.
She worked at Coddington's Florist and in the Oneonta Schools cafeteria.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Edward M. Elmendorf, and his wife, Carol; daughter, Sharon Shumway, and her husband, Grant; sister, Helen Schoonmaker; granddaughter, Kimberly Grace Scheinder; grandson, Eric Edward Elmendorf; and four great-grandchildren, Abigail, Eric Jr., Blake and Brandon.
A memorial service was held Saturday, March 4, 2000, at 1 p.m. at Demaine Springfield-Annandale Chapel, Backlick and Edsall Roads, Springfield, Va.; (703) 549-0074.

Mildred Hunt
ONEONTA — Mildred (Beers) Hunt, loving mother, friend and teacher, passed away March 5 at Fox Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 4, 1909, to Walter and Lucy Beers in Rathbone, where she spent her early childhood. Subsequently, the family moved to Sherburne, where Mildred attended school. In 1933, she graduated from Oneonta Normal School, thereafter beginning her career as a teacher.
Mildred taught fifth grade in New Berlin Central School for many years and was very popular with students and teachers alike. In 1936, she married a farmer, Adrian Hunt, and together they owned a recreation area known as Hunt's Pond, which included an 80-acre lake. Mildred operated a refreshment stand there summers when she wasn't teaching.
After her retirement in 1975, she did a lot of traveling worldwide. In later years, she spent winters in Florida. Her last home before Fox Nursing Home was in Barnes Trailer Park, Unadilla.
She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of New York State and the Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta. She enjoyed cooking, reading and traveling.
She was predeceased by her husband, Adrian, two sisters and a son.
She is survived by many special friends including Don and Janice (Johnson) Tuttle of Unadilla and Frank and June (Hazard) Weinheimer of Schenevus and the wonderful staff at Fox Nursing Home.
Funeral and committal services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2000, at The Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, with the Rev. Gary W. Bonebrake, pastor of the Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, officiating.
Burial will be later in Riverside Cemetery, South New Berlin.
There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta.
Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.
