Rodney A. German

GRAND GORGE — Rodney A. German, 59, of Grand Gorge, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Feb. 17, 1941, in Conesville, the son of Valmore German and Daisy Brown.

He married Yvonne Merwin on June 18, 1962, in Grand Gorge.

He worked at GE in Schenectady doing mechanical work and also worked in the turbine department. He retired in 1996 after working for 27 years. He lived in Grand Gorge for nine years.

He was a member of the Conesville Fire Department, he served as fire police captain. He enjoyed hunting.

Rodney is survived by his wife, Yvonne German of Grand Gorge; one son, Doug German of Grand Gorge; two daughters, Hope German of Grand Gorge and Colleen Lenz of Amsterdam; seven grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Knolls, of Hudson, Fla., Esther Whirtley of Saugerties and Frances Bevens of Bloomville; three brothers, William German of Fenten, N.J., Alton German of Cherry Valley, and Richard German of Schenectady; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2000, at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Contributions may be made in memory of Rodney to the Grand Gorge Rescue Squad, Grand Gorge.

Funeral arrangements are by the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Wilbur  Johnson Jr.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — Wilbur  Johnson Jr., 66, died on Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at his home in Buckhannon, W.Va., after a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 9, 1934, in Roxbury, N.Y., the first son of Wilbur and Alma  Johnson of Vega, Kelly Corners and Arkville, N.Y.

Wilbur is survived by his wife, Grace Mullenex  Johnson of Acron, Ohio; a daughter, Sheila  Johnson of Fort Meyers, Fla.; and a brother, Lynn  Johnson of Arkville, N.Y.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Poling St. Clair Funeral Home, 95 South Kanawha, Buckhannon, W.Va. 26201.

Alton Smith

COOPERSTOWN — Mr. Alton Smith, 95, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at The Meadows, Cooperstown.

He was born March 20, 1904, in East Springfield, the son of Orrin and Minnie (Hood) Smith.

Mr. Smith was a bartender at the former Justice Inn, East Springfield, drove bus for Ray Lenecker, and worked for the Beechnut Packing Co., Canajoharie, as a truck driver, until retiring in 1967.

He enjoyed the outdoors, baseball, horse shoes and playing cards.

Mr. Smith is survived by a brother, Earl Smith of Jordanville; longtime friends, Herbert VanBrink and family of Cooperstown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Glenn D. Smith, Raymond Smith, Charles Smith and Lee Smith; and two sisters, Lela McCarty and Pearl Dingman.

A graveside funeral service will be held in the spring in the Springfield Center Cemetery, Springfield Center, with the Rev. Ronald Fralick officiating. Date and time to be announced later.

Mr. Smith will be placed in the Ottman Funeral Home private vault to await spring burial.

Contributions in Mr. Smith's memory may be made to the activities fund at The Meadows, 140 County Highway 33W, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley; 264-8141.

Pauline E. Ambrose

NEW BERLIN — Pauline E. Ambrose, 79, of New Berlin, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, in Oxford.

She was born April 10, 1920, in New Berlin, the daughter of Clifford and Blanche (Gray) Aylesworth.

She married Anthony Ambrose on June 26, 1943. He died Jan. 30, 1992.

She spent her childhood in New Berlin. She was a 1938 graduate of New Berlin Central High School.

Pauline is survived by three sons, Michael and Katherine Ambrose of Franklin, Patrick and Diane Ambrose of Treadwell and Danny and Donna Ambrose of New Berlin; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one son, Vincent Ambrose, in 1960.

She attended Holmesville Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 10, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Romeyn Kipp of the Holmesville Baptist Church, Holmesville. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

Calling hours will be Thursday, March 9, 2000, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the New Berlin Emergency Squad or the American Heart Association.

Eileen A. Geier

PITTSFIELD — Eileen A. Geier, 63, of Pittsfield, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, in Pittsfield.

She was born on Nov. 20, 1936, in Paterson, N.J., the daughter of Howard and Annamae (Fitzpatrick) Scribner.

She married Arthur Geier on Feb. 2, 1955, who survives.

She spent her childhood in Paterson, N.J.

Eileen is survived by her children, Mark Geier of Pittsfield, Sherri Pandrof of Little Falls, N.J., Mary Ann Oshields of Bethlehem, Pa., Kathleen Geier of Pittsfield; and 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 11, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Towtowa, N.J.

Interment will be held at the Laurel Grove Memorial Park, Towtowa, N.J.

Calling hours will be held Friday, March 10, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Mary J. Cornell

ONEONTA — Mary Jane (Powers) Cornell, 73, of Oneonta, died Friday, March 10, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Aug. 18, 1926, in Easton, Pa., the daughter of Robert J. and Marguerite (Prouty) Campbell.

She was first married to William J. Powers on Feb. 10, 1945. He died March 9, 1959. On Oct. 25, 1980, she married James E. Cornell.

Mrs. Cornell retired in 1989 from A.O. Fox Hospital, where she worked as a lab technician for more than 30 years.

She enjoyed playing cards and looked forward to her weekly card club. She enjoyed reading, along with sharing special times with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, James E. Cornell of Oneonta; her children and their spouses, Thomas and Gloria Powers of Berlin Center, Ohio, Terrance and Kathryn Powers of Ballston Lake, Timothy and Cherie Powers of Worcester and William Powers of Oneonta. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, two cousins and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 12, 2000, at 4 p.m. in the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Friends may call on Sunday at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until service time.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Edith R. Morse

ANDES — Edith R. Morse, 92, of Andes, died March 9 at home.

Edith was born April 25, 1907, in Meeker Hollow, town of Roxbury, the youngest child of John Milton Raab and Ann Shepherd Davis Raab.

She married Weldon Morse on April 6, 1939, in Kingston. They then moved to Andes, where they purchased the former Scott Farm in 1942.

Edith graduated from a one-room schoolhouse in Roxbury. She later obtained her real estate license and operated a real estate business from her home in Andes.

She was a 4-H and Scout leader when her children were young. Edith was a member of the Andes Presbyterian Church as well as the Andes Society for History and Culture.

She was predeceased by her sister Mabel Raab Ploutz in 1938; her brother Henry Raab in 1926; her brother Charles Raab in 1952; a sister Nettie Raab Blodgett in 1957; and her husband, Weldon, in 1973.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Judy Morse of Andes; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda Dale and John Thorington of Delhi; two granddaughters, Stacey Morse of Graham, N.C., and Amy Morse of Denver,  Colo., as well as a nephew, John Blodgett and his wife, Elizabeth, of Delhi.

Funeral service will be Sunday, March 12, at 2 p.m. from the Andes United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Daniel McCollister, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Andes Cemetery at a later date.

Friends may call at the Jester-Stanley Funeral Home, Saturday at their convenience. The family will be in attendance from 7-9 p.m. Saturday.

Memorials to the Catskill Area Hospice, the Andes Emergency Squad or the Andes Presbyterian Church in the name of Edith Morse would be appreciated.

Dorothy D.  White

DELHI — Dorothy D.  White, 89, a Delhi native, died Thursday, March 9, 2000, at St. Peter's Hospital, Albany.

She was born April 1, 1910, at Holmes Hollow, Delhi, the daughter of James N. and Minnie E. (Anderson) Dodds.

A 1927 graduate of Delaware Academy and a 1931 graduate of Albany Teachers College, Dorothy taught English at Oxford schools (1931-33) and in Walton (1933-36).

She married the Rev. Kenneth H.  White at her home on Aug. 19, 1936, and that year joined him in Martin's Ferry, Ohio, where her husband had a Presbyterian pastorate from 1936-42 and subsequently in Sewickley, Pa., from 1942 until retirement in 1973, when the Whites returned to Delhi.

For the past several years they had been making their winter home in Nassau, Rensellaer County, with their daughter.

Mrs.  White was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, and its Esther Circle.

Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Kenneth H.  White; a son, Thomas C.  White of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two daughters, Mary W. Corrello of Nassau and Ann K. Roolf of Pittsburgh, Pa.; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister-in-law, Mary Dodds of Sarasota, Fla.; a niece and two nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, James A. Dodds, late of Delhi.

Friends are invited to call on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 13, by her pastor, the Rev. Arvid Whitmore.

Burial will be in the family plot at Woodland Cemetery later.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Betsey B. Winsor

VENICE, Fla. — Betsey B. Winsor, 91, of Venice, Fla., died March 9, 2000.

She was born Nov. 2, 1908, in Brooklyn. She moved to Venice in 1998 from Belle Aire, Fla.

She was a member of the Peace Memorial Church of Clearwater, Fla.

She is survived by two sons, Fred of Venice and Coville of Seneca Falls; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in New York at a later date.

Hazel R. Holtkamp

FRANKLIN — Hazel R. (Campbell) Holtkamp, 85, of Franklin passed away Friday, March 10, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born in Roscoe on Oct. 13, 1914.

She married her loving husband, Walter Holtkamp, on June 6, 1941, in Jacksonville, Fla. He died on Dec. 9, 1996, after 55-plus years of marriage.

She was a member of the Franklin Community Bible Church.

Before her marriage, she was employed at Scintilla in Sidney. The remainder of her life was spent being a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed.

Hazel is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ralph Benedict of Vestal; two grandchildren, Kevin and Michael Benedict of Raleigh, N.C.; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, James Campbell.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 14, at 3 p.m. in the Franklin Community Bible Church, with the Rev. Dr. Walter Schlundt, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Friends may call this evening from 6 to 8 at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, 81 Main St., Franklin, at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Community Bible Church, Franklin, N.Y. 13775.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Bruce C. Dibble

EUSTIS, Fla. — Bruce Carlyle Dibble, 81, of Mount Dora, Fla., died Thursday, March 9, 2000, in Florida.

He was born July 11, 1918, in Bloomville, the son of Roland and Alta (Salsbury) Dibble.

His wife, Aletha Dibble, predeceased him in December 1999.

He was employed in trucking as a driver. The Dibbles spent the winter in Mount Dora, Fla., and summered in Caroga Lake.

In Florida, he attended the First United Methodist Church of Tavares and served on the Recreation Committee of Hibiscus Park, Mt. Dora, Fla., He was a member of the North Bush United Methodist Church in Caroga Lake.

Mr. Dibble is survived by two sons, Michael Dibble of Foster, Okla., and Dickson Dibble of Monticello, Fla.; a daughter, Donna Allen of Astatula, Fla.; five grandchildren; and a brother, Roland "Junior" Dibble of Atwater,  Calif.

Services for Mr. Dibble will take place in the spring at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, with burial for Mr. and Mrs. Dibble to follow in Valley View Cemetery, Rose's Brook, South Kortright.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.
