Belle Irene Graham

COOPERSTOWN — Belle Irene Graham, 86, of Cooperstown died Friday, March 10, 2000, at The Meadows, where she has resided for the past nine years.

She was born on Feb. 10, 1914, in Maryland, a daughter of Carl and Eva (Hopkins) Hubbard.

Belle married John L. Graham on Sept. 2, 1941, in Middlefield Center. Throughout her life Belle enjoyed her family, gardening, flowers, farming and animals.

Belle is survived by her brother, Carl Hubbard of Maryland; a sister, Louise Thompson of Webster; a daughter, Frances E. Mondore of Springfield Center; two sons, William C. (Buck) Graham and Frank R. Graham, both of Burlington Flats; two grandchildren, Diana L. Ferguson of Springfield Center and William M. (Mike) Mondore of Powder Springs, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren, David and Christian Jeffers, Michael, Dustin, Marlena and DeLiza Ferguson, all of Springfield Center, and Joshua Mondore of Powder Springs, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, John L. Graham, and three sisters, Mariba Burk, Ida Grospent and Alice Roberts.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at 7 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Steven Fournier, pastor of the Milford Center Community Bible Church, officiating.

Calling hours will be on Wednesday, March 15, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, when the family will be in attendance.

Mrs. Graham will be placed in the receiving vault in the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown until burial in the spring in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested any contributions be sent to Frances E. Mondore at 191 Public Landing Road, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Francis E. McCoy

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Francis E. McCoy, 72, of Lakeview Avenue, died peacefully on Sunday morning, March 12, 2000, in his home after a long illness.

He was born on Aug. 25, 1927, in Boston, son of the late Terence and Mary Byrne McCoy.

A graduate of St. John's Prep School in New York City, he went on to further his education in banking administration.

An honorably discharged United States Army veteran of World War II, he served in Japan as an honor guard for General Douglas McArthur.

On May 23, 1953, he married Veronica Barry in St. James, Long Island, where they resided until moving to Richfield Springs in 1983.

For 37 years he worked for the Eastern National Bank in Long Island later becoming the Chemical Bank, retiring as assistant vice president in 1983. He and his wife owned and operated the Stony Brook Motel in Richfield Springs from 1983 until 1991.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs; had served on the Board of Assessments in Long Island, the Otsego County Planning Board, and was a member of the Richfield Springs Lions Club.

Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Veronica; four sons, Richard McCoy and his fiancee, Marilyn of East Quoge, Long Island, Thomas McCoy of Vestal, John McCoy and his wife, Mary of Brick, N.J., and James McCoy and his wife, Robin of Clifton, N.J.; three daughters, Patricia Allen and her husband, Edward of Richfield Springs, Theresa McCoy of Brick, N.J., and Jane Murphy and her husband, Matthew of Oaksville; 15 grandchildren; and a son-in-law, Mark Pfaeffle of East Stroudsburg, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Kathleen Pfaeffle on Dec. 14, 1997.

Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Terance Healy officiating. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery will take place later this spring. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Arlene Bell

NORWICH — Arlene Bell, 83, of Norwich and formerly of Sidney passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2000, at Wilson Memorial Regional Medical Center in  Johnson City.

She was born April 19, 1916, to the late Clinton and Margaret (Bradish) Fletcher in Wakeman, Ohio.

Arlene married William Bethel Bickford on Feb. 2, 1935, and later married Clarence Bell on April 21, 1967. Clarence predeceased her on Aug. 21, 1992.

She was employed as an assembler at E.C.D. of Bendix, Sidney, until she retired in 1978.

Arlene was a 4-H leader for the Union Valley Yellow Jackets and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She also belonged to the Sidney Senior Citizens. Arlene was a member of the Union Valley Methodist Church and transferred to the Sidney United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women in Union Valley.

Arlene enjoyed flowers and gardening, crafts and cooking.

Arlene is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Darwin and Kay Bickford of Huntington, Ark.; daughter, Bettye Haugh of Norwich; daughter and son-in-law, Jinger and David Chew of Dunedin, Fla.; stepson, Clarence Bell Jr. of Germany; stepson and daughter-in-law, Donald and Dollie Bell of Grand Junction,  Colo.; brother and sister-in-law, Lyall and Dotty Fletcher of  Texas; sister-in-law, Hazel Fletcher of Binghamton; sister-in-law, Helen Fletcher of Bainbridge; grandchildren, Sulynn and Dewey Anderson of Dunedin, Fla., Torrey Chew of Arlington,  Texas, Jay and Lois Ann Bickford of Savage, Minn., Scott and Crystal Bickford of Loveland,  Colo., Charles and Coty Bell of Houston, Lowell Bell of St. Petersburg, Fla., Donald Bell Jr. of Grand Junction,  Colo. Also survived by Gordon and Dorothy Bickford of Port Crane, Gerald and Elsie Bickford of Greene, Alleine Benedict of Port Crane, Pearl Koster of Greene, and Catherine Bickford of Norwich; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was also predeceased by two brothers, Elton and Ernest Fletcher, and Jim Bickford, Emil Koster and Solon Benedict.

Funeral services were held Monday, March 6, 2000, at C.H. Landers Chapel, Sidney, with the Rev. David Masland, pastor of the United Methodist Church, Sidney, officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church, Sidney; the Norwich Emergency Squad or the United Methodist Women of Union Valley.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

George M. Williams

EAST WORCESTER — George M. Williams, 96, of East Worcester died Sunday, March 5, 2000, at his daughter's home in Glen Rock, N.J.

He was born Nov. 14, 1903, in Schenectady. He attended the University of Chicago, MIT, Columbia and Western Reserve colleges.

During his life, his career spanned forestry and developmental engineering. He worked on trails, roads and fire protection in southern California, rebuilt mills in the Northeast, developed products for the United States government, including Navy decking, air cars, and work on the B52 bomber. He retired from U.S. Rubber Co. in 1967, where he was chief developmental engineer.

He and his wife, Barbara, moved to East Worcester after his retirement, where he became involved in 4-H, The Horse Club, Masons and the Shrine.

George is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Marcia (Williams) Perry and Walter Perry of Glen Rock, N.J., Lisa (Williams) Kinney and Larry Kinney of Orange,  Calif., and Carolyn Williams of Cobleskill; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He leaves this world to join his wife, Barbara, and two sons, Howard S. Williams, and an infant son, as well as many beloved family members, who have gone before.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Schenevus and the Kalurah Shrine in Endicott.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., March 19, 2000, at the Pilgrims Holiness Church in East Worcester, with the Rev. Warren Babcock officiating. Following the service there will be a reception for family and friends at the East Worcester Fire House.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of George Williams to the East Worcester First Responders, Main Street, East Worcester, N.Y. 12064; the Kalurah Shrine, 625 Dixon St., Endicott, N.Y. 13760, or the charity of one's choice.

Francis E. McCoy

Funeral from J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. Terance Healy, officiating. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery will take place later this spring. The family will be present to receive relatives and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Francis W. Murphy

GILBERTSVILLE — Francis (Frank) W. Murphy, 63, of Gilbertsville, died at his home on Sunday, March 12, 2000.

He was born in Brooklyn on Oct. 13, 1936, the son of Frank T. Murphy and Florence (Boeklin) Murphy.

He was married to Mary Readie on Nov. 29, 1958, in Brooklyn.

Frank served his country in the United States Navy Submarine service as a nuclear test engineer from 1954 to 1974. After his retirement from the Navy he was employed at Hartwick College, Minute Man Optical, F.W. Murphy Appliance Repair, Oneonta Job Corp. and Cooperstown Central School.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church where he served as eucharistic minister. He was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association.

Francis is survived by his wife, Mary of Gilbertsville; five children, Barry Murphy of New York City, Teresa Meyers and her husband, John, of Morris, Patricia Murphy of Oneonta, Steven Murphy and his wife, Tammy, of Alliance, Ohio, and Susan Offen and her husband, Todd, of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and four grandchildren, John Patrick Meyers, Kaitlin Mary Meyers, Kali Ann Murphy and Michael J. Murphy. A sister, Florence Sullivan, and her husband, Frank, of Sarasota, Fla., also survive him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Holy Cross R.C. Church in Morris on Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. John Burns officiating.

Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville at a later date. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris. A wake service will be held at 8 p.m.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Hazel R. Holtkamp

FRANKLIN — Hazel R. (Campbell) Holtkamp, 85, of Franklin, passed away Friday, March 10, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born in Roscoe on Oct. 13, 1914.

She married her loving husband, Walter Holtkamp, on June 6, 1941, in Jacksonville, Fla. He died on Dec. 9, 1996, after 55 plus years of marriage.

She was a member of the Franklin Community Bible Church.

Before her marriage, she was employed at Scintilla, in Sidney. The remainder of her life was spent being a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be deeply missed.

Hazel is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ralph Benedict of Vestal; two grandchildren, Kevin and Michael Benedict of Raleigh, N.C.; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, James Campbell.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 14, at 3 p.m. in the Franklin Community Bible Church, with the Rev. Dr. Walter Schlundt, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.

Calling hours were held Monday evening at the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin Community Bible Church, Franklin, N.Y. 13775.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home, Franklin.

Lorraine Reed

SIDNEY — Lorraine Reed, 72, of Sidney, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton.

She was born Nov. 4, 1927, in Sidney, to the late Furman and Viola (Empet) Huyck.

Lorraine married Harry "Gally" Reed on Jan. 15, 1950, in Unadilla.

She was an LPN at The Hospital, Sidney, for 38 years with 14 years in the Nursing Care Facility.

Lorraine is survived by her husband, Gally Reed of Sidney; son and daughter-in-law, Roderick and Sandra Reed of Sidney; son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Constance Reed of Vestal; close friends, James and Lee Nordberg of Sidney; and three grandchildren, Michael, Amber and Aimee Reed of Vestal.

Graveside services will be held in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney, in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Broome County.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Isaac Calkins Matthew Calkins

UNADILLA — Isaac Allen and Matthew John Calkins, infant sons of Shawn and Lori Allen Calkins, died on Sunday, March 12, 2000, in Albany Medical Center.

Besides their loving parents they are survived by maternal grandparents, Floyd and Linda Allen of Sidney Center; paternal grandparents, Leonard and Patricia Calkins of Richfield Springs; maternal great-grandparents, Ernest and Mary Allen and Lois Phoenix, all of Walton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The funeral service and interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Richfield Springs will be private.

Memorial donations may be made to the Paraneonatology Unit care of Albany Medical Center Foundation, 43 New Scotland Ave. MC119, Albany, N.Y. 12208.

Arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Zachary Mondore

WEST WINFIELD — Zachary Stephen Mondore, 8 months old, became our littlest angel on Saturday, March 11, 2000.

He was born July 17, 1999, in Cooperstown, the son of Russell and Jennifer Sink Mondore.

He is survived by his parents and big sister, Sarah Josephine; maternal grandparents, William and Elizabeth Sink; paternal grandparents, Charles and Helen-Eileen Mondore; two great-grandmothers; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, West Winfield. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in the spring.

Calling hours at the Wilcox-Dimbleby Funeral Home are Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Shirley A. Elderkin

PORTVILLE — Shirley A. Elderkin, 64, of 14 Pine St., died Saturday, March 11, 2000, in Olean General Hospital, following a brief illness.

Calling hours were held in the Mulholland-Crowell Funeral Home, Wellsville on Tuesday.

Private funeral services will be held Wednesday.

Burial will be in Stannards Cemetery, Willing.
