Mary Jo Keaty

WEST ONEONTA — Mary Jo Keaty, 38, of West Oneonta, died suddenly on Friday, March 24, 2000.

She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, John and Rose Keaty, and her maternal grandfather, Henry Romeo.

She is survived by her parents, James and Shirley Keaty of Endwell and Leesburg, Fla.; one brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Andrea Keaty of Endicott; one sister and brother-in-law, Michele and Jon Vallet of Binghamton; her maternal grandmother, Loretta Romeo of Plattsburg; her niece and godchild, Emma Vallet; three nephews, Harry Vallet, Christopher and Michael Keaty; her fiancι, David Webster of West Oneonta and many cousins, aunts and uncles.

She was a 1979 graduate of Maine Endwell High School, attended the State University at Buffalo and was a graduate of Broome Community College with a degree in electrical technology and business management.

She had been a proud employee of New Yorl State Electric & Gas Corp. for nearly 10 years. One of Mary Jo's greatest joys was singing and playing guitar for her family and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 East Main St., Endicott, and at 10 a.m. from Our Lady of Angels Church, Endwell, where a funeral Mass will be offered.

Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the memorial home tonight from 5-8.

Bessie A. Lent

WELLS BRIDGE — Bessie A. Lent, 88, of Wells Bridge, died Saturday, March 25, 2000, at The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born Oct. 22, 1911, in the town of Sidney, the daughter of Orle and Caroline (Knapp) Jackson.

She was married to Howard G. Lent, Nov. 23, 1934 in Wells Bridge. Mr. Lent died April 29, 1995.

Mrs. Lent has been a 65-year resident of Wells Bridge and a retired postal clerk of the Wells Bridge Post Office.

She was a member of the Sand Hill United Methodist Church in Wells Bridge, Wells Bridge Senior Citizens and the Jolly Ten of Wells Bridge.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Howard and Suzanne Lent of Brasher Falls; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Shirley Gross of Unadilla, Caroline and Donald Ouimet of Unadilla, Nancy and Ralph Tompkins of South New Berlin and Florence Higbie of Unadilla; a brother, Orle  Jackson Jr. of Rock Island, Ill.; a sister, Grace Clayton of Binghamton; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by four brothers, Marvin, Samuel, Harvey and Chester Jackson, and two sisters, Nina Thurston and Edith Glynis.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, with the Rev. Daniel Age, pastor of the First Baptist Church in South New Berlin, officiating.

Burial will be later in Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.

Friends may call at the funeral home today after 2 p.m. The family will be in attendance this evening from 7-9.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sand Hill United Methodist Church or the Wells Bridge First Responders.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Irmagarde Gardner

NEW BERLIN — Irmagarde Gardner, 81, formerly of Hartwick, died Friday, March 24, 2000, at the Chase Memorial Nursing Home, New Berlin.

She was born Feb. 19, 1919, the daughter of Bert Field and Harriet (Shove) Field.

She was married to Will Gardner, who died several years ago.

She is survived by her two sisters, Evelene Sheldon of Harpersfield and Frances Beagle of Oneonta, and two brothers, Harry Fields of Orange City, Fla., and Cecil Fields of Delhi.

She was a member of the Hartwick United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Rev. Roger Yoder, pastor of the Hartwick United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be at a later date and calling hours will be Tuesday from 1 p.m. until service time.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Mary K. Prince

MARGARETVILLE — Mary K. Prince, 96, of Margaretville, died March 25, 2000, at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

She was born Oct. 20, 1903, in Walton, the daughter of Joseph Thomas and Louise DiDeo.

She married Leo M. Prince in 1931 at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church in Walton. He died in 1979.

She was a homemaker and assisted her husband at the Prince Radio Store in Walton.

Mary lived in Walton, Ramsey, N.J., and Schenectady before making her home at Mountainside Residential Care Center, Margaretville.

Mary has always been active in her church parishes in the areas she lived. She loved to be outdoors gardening and enjoying flowers.

She is survived by one daughter, Jean Sheldon of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; two sons, the Rev. Leo R. Prince of Pearl River and Henry J. Prince of Fairfield, N.J.; her dear friend, Mary Marsico of Margaretville; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Richard Charles Prince, in 1986.

Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church in Walton with the Rev. Leo R. Prince, celebrant.

Burial will be at the Walton Cemetery, Walton. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville. On Wednesday morning, prior to Mass, there will be calling hours at St. John the Baptist parish hall from 9:30-10:45.

Mass cards would be appreciated by the family.

Arrangements are by Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Mary F. Cleaveland

DELHI — Mary F. Cleaveland, 86, originally of Franklin, died March 26, 2000, at Delaware County Countryside Care, Delhi.

She was born May 14, 1913, in Andes, the daughter of Robert and Ina (Finkle) Seath.

She is survived by a daughter, Anita Rowell of Kingston; three sons, Chester Cleaveland Jr. of Franklin, David Cleaveland of Tivoli and James Cleaveland of Franklin; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her husband, Chester Cleaveland Sr., predeceased her Oct. 7, 1999.

A lifelong area resident, Mrs. Cleaveland was a homemaker in Franklin.

Graveside services will take place at the family's convenience at the Hamden Cemetery, Hamden, with the Rev. Wayne Muckel officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Franklin Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Mary E. Boyd

DELHI — Mary E. Boyd, 90, of Delhi, passed away Sunday, March 26, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, following an extended illness.

She was born on Dec. 21, 1909, in Reading, Pa., the daughter of James W. and Carolyn Werner Scott.

She was married to John R. Boyd on Nov. 29, 1933. He died in August 1985.

She moved to Delhi from Albany in 1923, and graduated from Old Delaware Academy in 1927. She attended Westminster College and graduated from Mildred Elley Business School in Albany.

She resided in Andes for 30 years, and was active in the United Presbyterian Forum Society; an active leader in Cub Scouts, Home Bureau, and a charter member of History and Culture Society.

In 1974, she and her husband moved back to Delhi and in 1979, she retired from the Department of Social Services.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church for 76 years. Mrs. Boyd was a 60-year member of the Rebekah Lodge #318, Delhi Historical Society, Humane Society and ECW of the St. John's Church. Also, she volunteered at the Delhi Infirmary.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Niels Skovsende of North Franklin, one son, John S. Boyd of Briarcliff; two grandsons, Thomas and Garry Skovsende; and four great-grandchildren,

Funeral services will take place on Thursday, March 30, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with the Rev. Paul Hartt of St. John's Episcopal Church, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will take place at a later date in Andes Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church or the United Presbyterian Church of Andes.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Mary H. Lybeck

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Mary H. Lybeck, 97, born in the town of Springfield, died March 22, 2000, in Scottsdale, Ariz., where she had lived since 1991, and wintered earlier.

Daughter of Fannie E. Wikoff and George B. Rathbun.

Her beloved and devoted husband of 65 years, Bertil, died in 1992.

Loved and cherished by daughters, Pauline (Polly) Kislik of New York City and Marlene Ostrander of Scottsdale, Ariz.; foster daughters, Lillian Maruzzi of  White Plains and Helen Gregos of Burbank,  Calif.; grandsons, Kenneth and Daniel Ostrander of East Springfield and William Ostrander of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a large family of close friends.

Mary Lybeck owned and operated the family resort her father started in 1902, on Hyde Bay, Otsego Lake, to provide a public place for picnickers and bathers and a stop for the steamer from Cooperstown, known as Rathbun's Cottages from 1932-84.

A graduate of Potsdam State Teachers College, she met her husband, a Clarkson graduate, while studying. They lived first in Lindenhurst and then moved to  White Plains and later to Hartsdale.

Mary Lybeck led a full, active life right up to the end still playing bridge and water aerobics in January of this year. She was an inspiration to all who knew her for her courage, strength of character, generous and friendly nature.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 8, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the United Memorial Methodist Church, 250 Bryant Ave.,  White Plains.

Memorial donations either to above church or to Wyckoff House & Association, Inc., P.O. Box 100-376, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11210.

Budine G. Schriber

SOUTH EDMESTON — Budine (Bud) G. Schriber, 67, of South Edmeston, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, in South Edmeston.

He was born April 15, 1932, in Buffalo, the son of Oscar and Daisy (Budine) Schriber.

He spent his childhood in the New Berlin area and was a 1951 graduate of New Berlin Central School, New Berlin.

Bud is survived by his brothers, Robert Schriber of New Berlin and Oscar (OZ) Schriber of Potters Corners; his sister, Mrs. Beatrice Ciotoli of Schenectady; sisters-in-law, Kathy Schriber of Delaware and Alice Schriber of Georgia; and 20 nieces and nephews.

He was a dairy farmer, truck driver for Welches Livestock Market, and a maintenance worker at Chase Nursing Home, New Berlin, and Simmons Precision of Norwich.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin. He enjoyed playing cards.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951-1954, during the Korean War. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years and was a member of the New Berlin Rotary.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 30, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, with the Rev. Beverly Butler of the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Corners Cemetery, town of Columbus.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, March 29, 2000, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, N.Y.

Edward G. York

UNADILLA — Edward G. York, 73, of 1 Sperry St., Unadilla, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 25, 2000, at The Hospital, Sidney.

He was born Oct. 1, 1926, in Norwich, the son of Ray and Dorys (Dimmick) York.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army as a surgical assistant with the 1124th Engineer Group.

He was married to Rosina Colesanto, Dec. 30, 1950, in Deposit.

Mr. York was a graduate of Hancock Central School and the Allied Technical College of Chicago. He was a retired design engineer of Amphenol Corp. of Sidney.

He was a former member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineer's of Sidney.

Edward is survived by his wife, Rosina York of Unadilla; two sons, James York of Oneonta and David York of Unadilla and Ithaca; a daughter, Laura York of Niagara Falls; and a sister, Dorothy VanDeMark of Binghamton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at St. Ambrose Church, Unadilla, with the Rev. Joseph J. Schuck, associate pastor, officiating.

Burial will be later in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

Friends may call at the Westcott Funeral Home, 112 Main St., Unadilla, Tuesday evening, March 28, from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be in attendance.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Helen Hubiak Hunt

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Helen Hubiak Hunt, 83, formerly of Linden Avenue, died peacefully on Sunday, March 26, 2000, in Folts Homes, Herkimer.

She was born on Feb. 15, 1917, in Pricedale, Pa., daughter of the late Thomas and Katie Chomo Hubiak.

A lifelong area resident she was a graduate of VanHornesville High School.

On Nov. 21, 1942, she married Lester Hunt in St. John's Chapel, Richfield Springs — a blessed union of 34 years until his passing on Dec. 7, 1974.

For 10 years Helen was employed by the Beechnut Co. in Canajoharie.

She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs.

Surviving her are three brothers and their wives, Walter and Madalyn Hubiak of Richfield Springs, John and Mildred Hubiak of Jordanville and Joseph and Rose Hubiak of VanHornesville; a niece; five nephews; and several cousins.

Besides her husband, Lester, she was preceded in death by her son, Lester Hunt in 1997; and two sisters, Mary Oeser and Anna Kuzemchak.

Funeral service and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
