Sylvia M. Alpaugh

TEQUESTA, Fla. — Mrs. Sylvia M. Alpaugh, 80, of Tequesta, Fla., passed away Friday, March 10, 2000, in Jupiter, Fla.

She was born on Nov. 19, 1919, in Sharon Springs, the daughter of Euclide and Ethel (Lyke) Moineau.

Mrs. Alpaugh was a graduate of Sharon Springs High School and Mildred Elley Business School.

She was employed by Honigsbaums in Albany and the First National Bank, Sharon Springs, for many years, and owned and operated Sharon Lanes with her former husband, Alton Ryder.

On Feb. 2, 1961, she married Earl Alpaugh in Florida. He predeceased her on May 15, 1987.

She was employed by Grummond Aircraft in Florida until her retirement.

Mrs. Alpaugh is survived by her loving sister, Bernice D. Moineau of Sharon Springs; cousins, Barbara Smith of Fort Plain and George Athanas of Spring Hill, Fla.; and sisters-in-law, Mary Alpaugh of Cherry Valley, Lilian Timer of Mount Vision, Marion Collins of Cobleskill and Rose Morse of Oneonta.

There will be no public calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2000, at 10 a.m. at St. Thomas Church, Cherry Valley, with Fr. Kenneth Swain officiating.

Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.

Arrangements were entrust to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Roxane M. Williams

UNADILLA — Roxane Marie Williams, 36, of Unadilla, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Wilson Hospital,  Johnson City.

She was born Oct. 20, 1963, to Ronald and Helen (Hadley)  Woods in Sidney.

Roxane attended Sidney High School and the Utica School of Commerce, Oneonta.

She married David T. Williams on May 17, 1996, in Unadilla.

Roxane is survived by her husband, David T. Williams of Unadilla; one son, Greg Pinney Jr. of Oneonta; two daughters, Elizabeth Marie Williams of Unadilla and Brittany Nicole Williams of Unadilla; her mother, Helen  Woods of Bainbridge; two brothers, Bruce  Woods of Bainbridge and Kevin  Woods of Franklin; two sisters and brother-in-law, Denise and Charles Ainsley of Summit and Cheryl  Woods of Sidney; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Roxane is predeceased by her father, Ronald Woods.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 1, 2000, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney at 2 p.m. Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Afton.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., Sidney.

Elsie C. Dietz

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — Elsie C. Dietz, 95, of 110 Sawyer St., South Portland, Maine, and formerly of 112 High St., Oneonta, N.Y., died Monday, March 27, 2000, at a Portland Nursing Facility.

She was born on Dec. 28, 1904, in Schoharie, N.Y., the daughter of William and Mary Palmatier Dietz.

She went to school in Schoharie, graduating from Schoharie High School Class of 1920. She also graduated from Oneonta State and Newark State with a bachelor's degree in education.

Ms. Dietz taught in the Calico,  Calif., schools for 20 years until her retirement.

She moved to Portland in 1968, to be with her family.

She was a 50-year member of the United Presbyterian Church in Oneonta, N.Y., and was a former member of the California State Teachers Association.

She is predeceased by a sister, Helen Dietz in 1992.

She leaves a sister, Hazel Beecher of Gorham.

A memorial service will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, Maine, with the Rev. David Butler officiating. Interment will take place in the family lot at Old Stone Fort Cemetery in Schoharie, N.Y., at a later date.

Nancy Stafford Ives

EAST WORCESTER — Nancy A. Stafford Ives, 40, of East Worcester, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Bassett Healthcare Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born April 27, 1959, in Onley, Md., the daughter of Francis "Butch" and Joyce (Anderson) Stafford.

Nancy his lived in Worcester for the past 25 years and was previously from Sharon Springs.

She was a licensed practical nurse at the Eden Park Nursing Home in Cobleskill.

She is survived by her children, Jennifer, Amy, Brian and Emily Ives of East Worcester; her parents, Francis "Butch" and Joyce Stafford of East Worcester and Ocala, Fla.; two sisters, Michelle and her husband, Lewis Fancher, of Clarksville, Va., and Lisa and her husband, Carl Jackson, of Summit; two brothers, Frank and his wife, Pat Stafford, of West Chazy and Jim Stafford and Natasha Fisher of Cobleskill; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

A funeral service will be 3 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2000, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Joyce Allen, pastor of the Worcester and East Worcester United Methodist churches, officiating.

Calling hours will be held Saturday, April 1, 2000, from 2 p.m. till service time.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Nancy to the East Worcester Fire Department, P.O. Box 781, East Worcester, N.Y. 12064.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

Adolf Onasch

DELHI — The Rev. Adolf Carl Joseph Onasch, 92, of Delhi, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Skywold Manor in Meredith Square.

He was born on March 19, 1908, in Milwaukee, Wis., the son of Otto Rudolf and Emma Alvira (Wollaeger) Onasch.

He married Frieda Emily Wieman on Oct. 10, 1935.

He was predeceased in death by his brother, Otto; his sister, Eleanor; and by Frieda, his wife of almost 64 years, who died Aug. 15, 1999.

The Rev. Onasch is survived by one sister, Lorraine and her husband of Missoula, Mont.; his son, Frederick and daughter-in-law, Barbara, of Delhi; and three grandchildren, Gregory of Delhi, Timothy of Smithtown, Long Island, and Emily of Goleta,  Calif. Several nieces and nephews and their families also survive him.

The Rev. Onasch was an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ since 1934. He served as pastor to congregations in Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois before retiring in 1973, to this area to be with his son and his family. For many summers thereafter he served as pastor to the Gilchrist Memorial Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. Onasch was instrumental in the founding of the Bloomville Emergency Squad. He was also one of the first to become involved with The County Senior Citizens Group. He served as chaplain for a number of years for this group and worked hard to provide the Senior Citizens Bus for the county.

Funeral services will be held at the United Ministry of Delhi at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 1, 2000, with the Rev. Mark Chatterton officiating. Calling hours will precede the service from 11 a.m. until noon at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi. Burial will be at a later date in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy in the Rev. Onasch's memory be made to the United Ministry of Delhi Church.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

George Paddock

WEST WINFIELD — George Guy Paddock, 77, of West Winfield, went to be in the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, March 29, 2000.

He was born Nov. 15, 1922, in Poland, N.Y., the son of George L. and Hazel C. (Adams) Paddock.

A lifelong resident of the area, Guy married Irma  Jones on Aug. 12, 1944, at her family farm in South Brookfield. She predeceased him on May 26, 1998.

Guy was born and raised on a dairy farm, and was proud to be a farmer. He loved to mow lawns to beautify the country and enjoyed chauffeuring people that needed a ride.

He was a member of the Unadilla Forks Baptist Church.

Guy is survived by his children, Lois and Bruce Aylesworth of Sherburne, and William and Rachael Paddock of West Winfield; a daughter-in-law, Lillian Paddock of West Edmeston; his grandchildren, Michael, Kevin and Brent Aylesworth, Stephanie and Abram Estell, Laurie and Clarence Smith and Brian and Sara Paddock; his great-grandchildren, Russell Aylesworth and Kathryn, Kayleigh and Emily Estell; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Justin, Jarred, Rachel, Ryan and Cara Smith; a sister-in-law, Esther Paddock; and a brother-in-law, Edward Marvin.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his sons, Gordon in 1975, and Lennis in 1998; his brother, James in 1997; and sister, Jean Marvin in 1998.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, with Pastor Charles Fitch of the Unadilla Forks Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the spring at the West Edmeston Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Saturday, April 1, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Unadilla Forks First Responders, the West Winfield Emergency Squad or the Unadilla Forks Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements are by the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Fenton H. Groat Sr.

WALTON — (Shorty) Fenton H. Groat Sr., passed away peacefully at Delaware Valley Hospital with his nephew, Norman Groat, at his side. He was 96.

Shorty was born on March 14, 1904, to Adelbert and Rosa Groat in Walton.

He was predeceased by three wives, Ethel, Virginia and Virginia.

Shorty was raised on the family farm on the Walton-Franklin Road, before buying his own home a half-mile away, in 1927.

Shorty worked in Sheffield's Creamery in Walton before turning to logging and farming, finally deciding on working as a stone dealer and not retiring until the age of 90.

Shorty was known all over the area, as well as parts of  Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Vermont for his knowledge of stone and his sharp business mind.

Shorty raised four children besides his own six, truly caring for each as his own.

Shorty is survived by his own children, Vicki Marvin of Binghamton, Richard Groat of Sidney Center, David Groat of California, Fenton Groat Jr. of Walton, James Groat of Walton and Rosa Kays of Calicoon. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and he had a special place in his heart for his nephew, Adelbert McKee, of Unadilla and his family. Shorty is also survived by his sister, Eva McCall of Walton; four brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also predeceased by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin, with the Rev. Delbert Ripley, pastor of the Northfield Community Church, officiating.

Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Northfield Community Church.

Funeral arrangements are by Lyon Bros.-Way Inc. Funeral Home, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton.
