Mary Guarino

WALTON — Mary Elizabeth Marsico Guarino, 90, of Walton, died April 15, 2000, at her home, 132 East Main St., Walton.

She was born in Walton on Feb. 12, 1910, the daughter of John and Catherine (DeRosa) Marsico Sr.

She has been a resident of this community her entire lifetime.

She was married to Joseph A. Guarino on April 15, 1926, at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Walton. He predeceased her.

She worked for many years at the Townsend School cafeteria and operated a greenhouse at her residence with her husband.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist R.C.C.

Mary is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Clara and George Cleaver of Walton and Elizabeth and John Fanning of Endicott; one brother, John Marsico of Walton; one sister, Josephine Lindhurst of Kingston; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by three sisters, Lena Stingone, Tess Lurenz and Madeline Olson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at the Clark & Winter Funeral Home, at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Eugene F. Willis of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church officiating.

Friends may call at the Clark & Winter Funeral Home, Tuesday evening, April 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be in Walton Cemetery.

Persons wishing may make contributions to the Walton Emergency Squad or St. John the Baptist R.C.C. in her memory.

Alois 'Al' D. Gran

WORCESTER — Alois "Al" D. Gran, 99, of Worcester, died Monday, April 17, 2000, at the Oneonta Nursing Home.

He was born on Oct. 16, 1900, in Wenschdorf, Germany, the son of Dionys and Maria Eugenia (Meidel) Gran.

He married Eva Holl on Oct. 29, 1927. She predeceased him in 1984.

Mr. Gran came to the United States in 1924. He was a blacksmith. In 1927, he bought a farm in Worcester, then purchased a farm and moved to Schenevus in 1940. He has lived in Worcester since his retirement in 1964.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester and was the past director of G.L.F.

Al is survived by his son, Alfred and his wife, Pam Gran, of Simsbury, Conn.; two daughters, Millie and her husband, Joseph Kenyon, of Worcester and Irma and her husband, Robert Ellsworth, of Oneonta; 11 grandchildren, Steve, Bill, Mark and Jodi Kenyon, Sandra Fancher, Carol Wittig, David and Diane Gran, Anne Kiley, Cheryl Ellsworth Pardini and Douglas Ellsworth; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2000, at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Worcester.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 19, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester. There will be a Vigil Service at 8:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Mr. Gran to the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Building Fund, Main Street, Worcester, N.Y. 12197 or the charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

Donald R. Brown

COLUMBUS — Donald R. Brown, 88, of the town of Columbus, died Monday, April 17, 2000, in Norwich.

He was born Sept. 24, 1911, in the town of Columbus, the son of C. George and Bertha (King) Brown.

He married Norma M. Edmonds on Jan. 26, 1938, who survives.

He spent his childhood in the town of Columbus.

He graduated from New Berlin Central School in 1929. He was a dairy farmer.

Donald is survived by his children, Roger and Judy Brown of New Berlin, Barbara and Harry Avery of New Berlin and David and Jayne Brown of the town of Columbus; eight grandchildren, Stephen Brown, Denise Talbot, Donald Greco, Maria Wilcox, Michael Greco, Stanley Avery, Kathryn Lloyd and Megan Brown; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by one daughter, Joanne Brown in 1958, and one son, Paul Brown in 1998.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 20, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with the Rev. Beverly Butler, of the First United Methodist Church, New Berlin, officiating.

Interment will be at the Columbus Corners Cemetery, town of Columbus.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, April 19, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the New Berlin Fire Department, New Berlin.

Freida M. Lawson

GILBERTSVILLE — Freida Marie Lawson, 82, of Gilbertsville, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at the Fox Memorial Nursing Home in Oneonta.

She was born in the town of Guilford, on Dec. 28, 1917, the daughter of Fred and Carrie (Shaw) Marble.

She spent her youth in the Mount Upton area and married Harry A. Lawson on Oct. 18, 1942, at Lathams Corners. She and her husband operated the family dairy farm until their retirement in 1971. They then moved to Gilbertsville where she was a well-known seamstress for many folks. She was also active in the home bureau for many years.

Freida is survived by her husband, Harry Lawson of Gilbertsville; a daughter, Gail Blumer and her husband, Ron of Littleton,  Colo.; a sister, Elsie Sander and her husband, Art of Deansboro; a brother, Floyd Marble and his wife, Dorothy of Smithville; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A graveside funeral service will be held Thursday, April 20, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Boardman officiating. Calling hours will be private and at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad in her memory.

Wendy Bennett

ONEONTA — Wendy Bennett, 39, passed away unexpectedly at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, on Friday, April 7, 2000.

Wendy was predeceased by her father, Richard "Dick" Bennett Jr.

She is survived by her mother, Lodia Anderson Bennett; her sister, Wanda; her niece, Megan; her brothers, Richard "Rich" Bennett III and his wife, Cindy, and Robert "Bob" Bennett and Kristina.

Wendy will always be remembered for her kindness of heart, her laughter, and her illuminating smile.

"Dearest Wendy ... Asleep in the arms of Jesus, rest in peace for on that glorious day of resurrection we all shall meet."

Wendy will be greatly missed by numerous loving relatives and friends.

The family will have a private cremation and burial under the direction of the MacArthur Funeral Home in Davenport. A "Celebration of Life" service will be held at the Bennett residence at a later date.

In Wendy's memory the family requests donations be made to the Oneonta Boys and Girls Club in Oneonta.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Edward S. Clark

DAVENPORT CENTER — Edward S. Clark, 43, of Davenport Center, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Feb. 4, 1957, in Kingston, the son of Harry D. and Marcia (Craft) Clark.

Survivors include a brother, Kenneth Clark of Oneonta; and three sisters, Kathleen Underwood of Virginia, Betty Calderon of Chicago, Ill., and Bonnie LaFlamme of Florida; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Single, he was employed by Bill McIntosh as a farmer in Bloomville.

Services will take place on Friday, April 21, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, with Pastor Elliott Oakes officiating. Calling hours will be Thursday, April 20, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Locust Hill Cemetery.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Ruth Cunningham

COLLIERSVILLE — Ruth E. Cunningham, 74, of Colliersville, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, in Oneonta.

She was born Feb. 24, 1926.

She was married for 24 years to Kenneth Cunningham.

She loved flowers, animals, especially her dogs, Whitey and Bambie.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Kenneth Cunningham of Colliersville.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2000, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. John Davis, chaplain for the Catskill Area Hospice. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta. Calling hours will be one hour before services at the funeral home.

Contributions to Hospice or the American Cancer Society in Ruth's memory.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Elizabeth Spencer

COOPERSTOWN — Funeral services for Elizabeth (Betty) B. Spencer, who died April 15, 2000, were held on Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Ogdensburg.

Mrs. Spencer is the mother of Ellen Spencer of Cooperstown.

Local arrangements were under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Ronald H. Rose

ANDES — Ronald H. Rose, 67, of Andes, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

Ronald was born July 21, 1932, in Turnwood, the son of Howard and Elsie Lacy Rose.

He was married to Donna Brown in October 1999, who survives.

A lifelong area resident, Ronald was an equipment operator for Sullivan Materials in Monticello.

He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter and enjoyed square dancing.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Donna of Andes; a son, Dennis of Andes; daughters, Karen Butler of Roxbury, Barbara McCullough of Woodbridge, Va., and Ellen Rose of Seabeck, Wash.; three sisters, Jean Stephenson of  Jeffersonville, Isabel Ackerley of Lew Beach, and Evelyn Rose Boyles of Livingston Manor; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral service will be held today, April 20, at the Andes United Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Daniel McCollister, pastor, officiating.

Ruth Wuthrick

SIDNEY — Ruth Wuthrick, 77, of Sidney, passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Wilson Hospital,  Johnson City.

She was born to the late August and Elsa (Wennstrom) Carlson on July 6, 1922, in Brooklyn.

Ruth married Fred Wuthrick on June 14, 1945, in Unadilla.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Fred Wuthrick Jr. of Sidney; brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Marguerite Carlson of Unadilla; niece, Joyce DiDonna of Unadilla; nephew, Richard and Kathy Carlson of Indiana; and cousin, Eleanor Jacobs of Unadilla.

She is predeceased by a brother, Robert Carlson.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 21, 2000, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Allen C. Lang, of the United Church of Oxford, officiating.

There will be no visitation.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Donations may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad or the charity of one's choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers, Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Ralph G. Holt

MOUNT UPTON — Ralph G. Holt, 81, of Mount Upton, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2000, at The Hospital, Sidney.

He was born to the late Leon and Grace Burdick Holt on Feb. 21, 1919, in Poolville.

Ralph married his wife, Marjorie, on Sept. 24, 1941. She predeceased him Aug. 2, 1985.

He served his country from 1944-1946 in World War II.

Ralph was employed by E.C.D. of Bendix as a supervisor, retiring after 41 years.

Ralph is survived by Gloria George of Mount Upton; his son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Gretchen Holt of Fredonia; four daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Michael Martin of Kannapolis, N.C., Cathryn and Eric Shepler of East Hempstead, Celeste and Marc Escobar of Swan Lake and Cheryl and Mike Dixson of Mount Upton; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services were private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Hospital, Sidney.

Arrangements by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

J. Irving Peck II

STAMFORD — J. Irving Peck II, 95, of Peck Street, Stamford, died suddenly Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

He was born on Aug. 16, 1904, on Peck Street in the town of Harpersfield, the son of J. Irving Peck I and Ettie (Reed) Peck.

He married Grace (Darling) Peck on May 18, 1938.

Mr. Peck operated a dairy farm with his brother, Kenneth in Harpersfield until 1938, when they divided their farm up and began two separate dairy businesses. Mr. Peck operated his own dairy farm along growing cauliflower in the 1950s and producing maple syrup for several years until 1973.

He always enjoyed telling stories about the horse-and-buggy days.

Mr. Peck was a member of the Colonel Harper Grange in Harpersfield and a member of the Saint Andrew Lodge of the Masons in Hobart.

He was an assessor for the town of Harpersfield for about 12 years.

He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Stamford.

He is survived by his wife, Grace of Stamford; a son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Margaret Peck of Schenectady; a grandson, Matthew of Schenectady; a granddaughter, Stacey of Schenectady; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Herbert and Elizabeth Darling of Stamford; and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by two brothers, Raymond B. and Kenneth L. Peck; and four sisters, Blanche (Peck) Burdick, Martha (Peck) Cronk, Elizabeth (Peck) Hamm, and Jessie (Peck) Moxley.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2000, at the First Presbyterian Church in Stamford, with the Rev. Stephen Herring officiating. Burial will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery in  Jefferson.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made in Irving's name to the Stamford Fire Department and Ambulance Service, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.
