Lois N. Nearing

HANCOCK — Lois N. Nearing, 71, of Hancock, died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, at home

She was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Garrattsville, the daughter of Ray and Dorothy (Spoor) Nearing.

She was a U.S. government employee working for the Department of Navy and the Department of Army in the Pentagon.

She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Foundry Methodist Church in  Washington, D.C.

Lois is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, George and Kay Nearing of Hancock; and 12 nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a sister, Murl Reed, in 1999.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 6, 2000, at 3 p.m. at Milford Cemetery, Milford, with the Rev. Nancy Kozlowski, of the Milford United Methodist Church, officiating.

Contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 20 Elm St., Delhi, N.Y. 13753 or to the H.H.T. Foundation International Inc., P.O. Box 8087, New Haven, Conn. 06530.

Arrangements are by Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Chapel, Hancock.

Edith Boyle

MONTVILLE, N.J. — A graveside committal service for Edith Boyle will be held Saturday, May 6, 2000, at 11:30 a.m. at the Elk Creek Cemetery, with the Rev. William Robert Thompson, pastor of the Schenevus First Baptist Church, officiating.

Contributions may be made to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 105 county Highway 34, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155.

Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Mary P. Bartow

SIDNEY — Mary Patricia Bartow, 70, of Sidney, passed away Friday, May 5, 2000, at her home.

She was born Jan. 21, 1930, in Clyde, Wis., the daughter of Leo and Avis (Wey) Conley.

Patricia married Robert Bartow on March 6, 1948, in Lancaster, Wis.; after 52 years of marriage, he predeceased her on Aug. 19, 1999.

She was a nurses' aid and a bus driver in Elgin, Ill., school district. She also was a bus driver for Sidney and Unatego schools for 26 years.

Patricia and Robert traveled in their retirement to all states in their recreation vehicle with good friends.

They will both be missed by all.

Patricia is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Barb Bartow of Joliet, Ill., and Rod and Dawn Bartow of Bainbridge; daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Bob Dedrick, of Bainbridge; mother, Avis Conley, of Muscoda, Wis.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ed and Linda Conley of Blue Eye, Mo., and Joe and Erma Conley of Muscoda, Wis.; sister-in-law, Gwen Conley, of Rogers, Ark.; six grandchildren, Jeremy Bartow and his wife, Andy Bartow and his friend, Bryon and Jason Bartow, Steve and Leslie Dix, Jim Dix and Renee Baer; and great-grandchildren, Rhiannon, Patrick, Robbie, Casey, Shelby, Cody, Darian, Hunter and Nicole.

She is also predeceased by her father, Leo Conley, and a brother, Hartzell Conley.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, May 7, 2000, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 3 p.m.

There will be no visitation.

Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or the Sidney Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Alan R. Dykes

DELHI — Alan Richard Dykes, 83, a resident of Delhi, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Veterans Nursing Home in Oxford.

He was born July 8, 1916, in Jersey City, N.J.

He is survived by his two children, Mary Beth Silano of DeLancey and Brian Dykes of Los Angeles,  Calif.; three grandchildren, Kristin, Maureen and Vincent; and one great-grandchild, Kaitlynn, of DeLancey.

His wife, Agnes Bannon Dykes, predeceased him in 1961.

Mr. Dykes served 28 years of active and reserve duty in the U.S. Army, retiring as a lieutenant colonel. From Dec. 10, 1940, to January 1946, he served during World War II as a private. From 1952-53, he was recalled for the Korean War, where he rose from private to lieutenant colonel in the Army Corps of Engineers. He was transferred to the Pentagon and was assigned to the comptroller of the Army.

He received his bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of New York and received his CPA in New York State.

He worked as staff senior accountant for Price Waterhouse in New York City until he was recalled for active service. He was elected for two terms (eight years) as town councilman for the town of Ossining, where he was assigned as police commissioner and chief financial officer. For a year he served as the village manager of Walden and as the chief executive officer. In 1968, he started his private CPA practice and continued until 1998.

Private family services will be held in Ossining at a later date.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Veterans Nursing Home, Oxford, N.Y. 13830.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Robert Huntington

WESTFORD — Robert L. Huntington Sr., 75, of Westford, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel, Worcester.

Charles Jennings

SIDNEY — Charles M. Jennings, 79, of Sidney, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 4, 2000, at his home.

He was born June 9, 1920, in Warwick, the son of the late Florence Robbins and James Jennings.

Charles married Mary Ellen Neer on Sept. 6, 1944.

He was employed at Bordens Chemical Co., Bainbridge, for 19 years .

Charles loved his family, music and being an established umpire for local baseball and softball leagues.

Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Jennings, of Sidney; two sons, Charles Jennings of Sidney and Gary Jennings and his fiancee, Ruth, of Sidney; two daughters and a son-in-law, Joanne and Bill Kane of Unadilla and Debbie Greco of Binghamton; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be missed by all.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 8, 2000, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 11 a.m. Friends may call Sunday, May 7, from 7 to 9 p.m.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Nancy Kurkowski

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Nancy Tofalo Kurkowski, 85, formerly of Richfield Springs, died on March 2, 2000, in Utica. Committal services will be held on Monday, May 8, 2000, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Richfield Springs, with Sister Patricia Woolheater officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Kowalczyk Funeral Home, 1156 Lincoln Ave., Utica.

Isabelle McIntosh

ONEONTA — Mrs. Isabelle McIntosh, 99, of Oneonta, died Thursday, May 4, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born Sept. 19, 1900, in New Lisbon, the daughter of John and Samantha (Mickle) Gardner.

She married Clarence McIntosh on Aug. 24, 1941, in Elkton, Md. Mr. McIntosh died July 25, 1963.

Isabelle enjoyed life to the fullest. She also enjoyed traveling and owls.

Isabelle is survived by a son-in-law, George Reynolds, of Cooperstown; two granddaughters and their husbands, Nancy and Richard Young Sr. of Colliersville and Montie and Richard Sauveur of Mooresville, N.C.; five grandsons; multiple great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Isabelle was predeceased by two daughters, Bettye Boynton and Virginia Wilber II Reynolds.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Ned Eastman officiating. Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery.

Friends may call at their convenience after 2 p.m. Monday, May 8. There will be no evening hours.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, in loving memory of Mrs. Isabelle McIntosh.

Arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Elizabeth H. Rich

HOBART — Elizabeth H. Rich of Hobart died Thursday, May 4, 2000.

She was born in Hobart, the daughter of Walter and Isabelle (Rose) Rich.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Annette Rich; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Elizabeth graduated from South Kortright Central School and Ithaca College. She taught high school music in Cornwall, Cooperstown, and Delaware Academy, Delhi. Following her retirement, she worked in the accounting department for Dr. Dean Graham at Graham Labs and continued until recently for Mallinckrodt Inc. of Hobart.

For more than 60 years she was a dedicated member of the Hobart Presbyterian Church, serving as church secretary and leader of musical ministry. She was an active member of the American Guild of Organists and thoroughly enjoyed playing piano every week for the residents' entertainment and singing at the Hearthstone in Hobart.

Elizabeth's musical ministry and her magnificent organ music will be hallowed in our memory.

Funeral services will take place Monday, May 8, 2000, at the Hobart Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Bert More officiating. Calling hours will be Sunday evening, May 7, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. Burial is at Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Hobart Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Stanley T. Shafer

STAMFORD — Stanley T. Shafer, 75, of 125 Main St., Stamford, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at his residence.

Stanley was born Jan. 27, 1925, in  Jefferson, the son of John and Rosella (Weaver) Shafer.

He was formerly married to Ida Shafer.

Stanley owned and operated a dairy farm in East  Jefferson for several years.

He resided for 20 years in Stamford and formerly lived in  Jefferson and Oneonta.

In his later years, he was a bartender for the former Rex Restaurant in Oneonta, Scotch Valley Ski Center in Stamford and the Holiday Inn in Oneonta.

Stanley is survived by his former wife, Ida Shafer, of East Worcester; a son, Gerald Shafer, of Grand Gorge; two grandsons, William A. Shafer of Summit and Timothy Shafer of South Kortright; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie Snyder, of Oneonta; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 8, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford, with the Rev. Elliott Oakes, pastor of the Stamford United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be held in the Evergreen Cemetery in  Jefferson.

Friends may call at their convenience Sunday afternoon and evening at the funeral home. The family will be in attendance between 7 and 9 p.m. Sunday.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Clem Skonieczski

EAST MEREDITH — Clem Skonieczski, 80, a resident of East Meredith, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at the Veterans Hospital in Albany.

He was born March 14, 1920, in Nanticoke, Pa., the son of Michael and Mary (Lankowski) Skonieczski.

He is survived by two sisters, Julia Misiewicz of East Meredith and Clara Triolo of  Jackson Heights; and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Skonieczski was a veteran of World War II and worked as a boiler mechanic in Brooklyn.

He was a member of the VFW of Delhi.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Delhi, with Fr. Joseph Manerowski officiating. Calling hours at the MacArthur Funeral Home will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. preceding the service on Tuesday. Burial will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Contributions in his memory may be made to St. Peter's Church, Delhi.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Pauline R. Wyckoff

ONEONTA — Mrs. Pauline R. Mondillo Wyckoff, 84, of Oneonta, died Saturday evening, May 6, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home.

She was born June 2, 1915, in Oneonta, the daughter of Gordon W. and Rebah (Hendrix) Cook.

In her earlier years, Pauline was married to Raymond Barker of Oneonta. On June 22, 1940, in Duanesburg, she married Tony Mondillo. Mr. Mondillo died Feb. 10, 1976. She then married Cecil Wyckoff. Mr. Wyckoff died June 14, 1989.

In 1964, she graduated from Oneonta's first LPN Nursing School at A.O. Fox Hospital. She worked at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home as a charge nurse for 15 years.

She was a member of the River Street Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, was a deaconess and was part of the Ladies Missionary Society.

She was one of the first residents of the Hampshire House from March 1996 until October 1999.

Pauline loved cooking and taking care of others. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed by all.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and B.C. Stevens of Watertown and Carolyn and Richard Halbert of Otego; one son and daughter-in-law, Carl A. and Sandra Mondillo of Oneonta; four stepchildren, Cecil Wyckoff, Donny Wyckoff, Denise Burns and Debbie Simonds; three sisters-in-law, Angie Wagner of Robinson Terrace, Stamford, Ann Oliver of Oneonta and Rose McPherson of Florida; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Pauline was predeceased by a sister, Madeline Alta Cook.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at the River Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Mel Farmer, pastor of the River Street Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons. The family will be present at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, on Tuesday evening, May 9, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. for those who wish may call.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the River Street Baptist Church, 133 River St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in loving memory of Pauline R. Mondillo Wyckoff.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Dorothy M. Eckler

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Graveside services and burial for Dorothy M. Eckler, 85, of Richfield Springs, who died Feb. 14, 2000, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 10, 2000, in Springfield Cemetery, with the Rev. Eileen Cornwell, pastor of Fly Creek United Methodist Church, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
