Myrtle L. Flannery

DAVENPORT — Myrtle L. Flannery, 67, of Main Street, Davenport, died Monday, May 15, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born Oct. 26, 1932, in Melvindale, Mich., the daughter of Verner and Ethel (Rogers) Welch.

She was formerly married to Ralph Flannery, who predeceased her.

Myrtle resided in Davenport for the past 10 years, moving there from Novi, Mich.

Myrtle will be truly missed by her several friends and relatives.

She is survived by two brothers, Albert Welch of Florida and Raymond Welch of Montana; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Myrtle's memory to the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, 1 Norton Ave., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Beatrice Castle

LAURENS — Beatrice Castle passed away on Saturday, May 13, 2000, at her home in Laurens.

She was born on March 1, 1923, in Rome.

She resided in Burlington Flats and Sidney for many years before moving to Laurens. For the past three years she has resided with the loving family of Susan Pagillo.

She was an active member of the Chestnut Street Day Hab Program in Oneonta.

She enjoyed a variety of community activities and had many wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at 1 p.m. from the Elm Park United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Joseph Fisk officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Oxford.

Friends may call at the Elm Park United Methodist Church, Chestnut Street, Oneonta, from noon until the time of the service on Tuesday.

The Behe Funeral Home of Oxford is handling the arrangements.

Agnes C. Mason

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Mrs. Agnes C. Mason of Zephyrhills, Fla., passed away April 18, 2000, at Zephyr Haven Nursing Home.

Mrs. Mason was born at Sisseton, S.D., and resided in Hobart, N.Y., for many years before moving to Florida.

She was a registered nurse and a graduate of Anker Hospital School of Nursing, St. Paul, Minn.

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Edwyn E. Mason, a retired New York State Senator; a son, James C. Hill of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter, Patricia J. Helton of Winter Park, Fla.; two brothers, James Knudson of Granite Bay,  Calif., and Victor Knudson of Mesa, Ariz.; two sisters, Thelma Mjorud of Minneapolis, Minn., and Genevive Wilder of Mesa, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted by the Carr-Cox Funeral Home in Winter Park, Fla.

Bertha B. Baldwin

CHERRY VALLEY — Committal services for Mrs. Bertha B. Baldwin, who passed away March 1, 2000, will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 19, 2000, in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Ron Fralick officiating. Burial will follow.

Arrangements were by the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Marjorie E. Hewitt

HARTWICK — Marjorie E. Hallenbeck Hewitt, 85, of Hartwick, died unexpectedly on Monday, May 15, 2000, at the Oneonta Nursing Home, Oneonta.

Marjorie was born on July 18, 1914, in Athens, the daughter of the late Daniel and Clara Hitchkock Hallenbeck.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Robert William Hewitt in 1943; a son, Robert William Hewitt Jr. in 1981; and a daughter, Shirley Patricia Hewitt Bragg in 1985.

She is survived by a son, Charles Franklin (Dianne) Hewitt of Hartwick; a daughter, Jo Ann Hewitt Ahern of Los Angeles,  Calif.; grandchildren, Kandy (Anthony) Bragg Watson of Palmdale,  Calif., Tomarra and Bruce Ahern of Glendale,  Calif., Victoria (David) Hewitt Durante of Reno, Nev., and Robert E. (Donna) Hewitt of Bridgewater, Mass.; and great-grandchildren, Seth Bragg, Francis and David James Durante, and Joshua Hewitt.

Mrs. Hewitt retired from J.J. Newberry in Hudson, after 28 years of service, before moving to Glendale,  Calif., where she was the postmistress in Dixie's Card Shop until her final retirement in 1991. She then moved back to New York to reside with her son and daughter-in-law in Hartwick.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday evening at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Hartwick Ambulance Squad in Marjorie's memory.

Verna M. John

MILFORD — Committal service for Mrs. Verna M. John, who died Dec. 26, 1999, will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2000, at noon in the Milford Cemetery, with the Rev. Douglas Deer, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

William Coager

GRAND GORGE — Committal services for William (Pete) Coager will be conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 20, 2000, at the Fairview Cemetery, Grand Gorge, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating.

Following the service, family and friends are invited to the family home to share fellowship with the family.

Arrangements are by Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Charles W. Brown

OTEGO — A graveside committal service will be held 11:30 a.m., Monday, May 22, 2000, at Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego for Charles W. Brown, who died March 16, 2000.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Josephine Mongillo

EMMONS — A committal service for Josephine Mongillo will be held on Friday, May 19, 2000, at 1 p.m. in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Richard C. Manzer

OTEGO — Richard C. Manzer, 45, of Otego, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 17, 1954, in Gloversville, the son of John and Joyce (Elmendorf) Manzer, who are deceased.

For 22 years, Rick was the operations director for Robwat Mgt. Inc. of Frankfort, who hold area Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises.

Rick was a member and past officer of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Sixth Ward Athletic Club. He was also president of the Northeastern Advertising Co-op for KFC, along with being a member of Squadron 259, Sons of the American Legion.

He was a member, and past president and treasurer of the Otego Elementary School PTO, along with being co-chairman for the school's playground committee.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah A. Manzer of Otego; a daughter, Jennifer M. Manzer of Otego; and three brothers, John Manzer of Mayfield, Wayne Manzer of Gloversville and Brian Manzer of Johnstown. He is also survived by his father- and mother-in-law, Francis and Virginia Lynch of Oneonta; along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2000, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Walnut Street, Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Emmons.

Friends may call at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home on Friday, May 19, after 2 p.m. The family will be in attendance from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Otego Elementary School Playground Fund, Main Street, Otego, N.Y. 13825, or the World War II Monument Memorial Fund, Attention: GR 048, P.O. Box 96074,  Washington, D.C. 20090-6074.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta.

Virginia L. West

MILFORD — A committal service for Virginia L. West, who died Jan. 8, 2000, will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2000, in Milford Cemetery at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Nancy Kozlowksi, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Milford, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Evelyn M. Yager

ONEONTA — Evelyn M. Yager, 79, of Oneonta, died Wednesday morning, May 17, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home.

She was born May 26, 1920, in Hornell, the daughter of Carl and Emma (Thompson) Markel.

She was married to Raymond Yager for 25-plus years.

Evelyn worked for Loblaw's in Oneonta for many years. She had also worked for the State University College at Oneonta in food service for several years. In her later years she was a health-care aide at the Gardenview Manor in Otego.

Evelyn was president of the Senior Citizen Association at Sidney Senior Village.

She loved cooking and baking as well as crocheting and knitting for her family.

She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed by all.

Evelyn is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Philip Cook of Sidney Center; three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Kathryn Yager of West Oneonta, Richard and Sara-Jane Yager of Otego and Donald Yager and his significant other, Mary Cottone, of Unadilla; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Peggy Freeland of Hornell and Thelma O'Connor of Hornell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Evelyn was predeceased by two daughters, Gail Finch and Barbara Haney; and one sister, Mabel Sleggs.

A service to celebrate the life of Evelyn M. Yager will be held on Friday, May 19, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego, with the Rev. Donna Joy Schmid officiating.

Burial will be in the Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego.

The family will be present at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time for those who wish may call.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 in loving memory of Evelyn M. Yager.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Otego.

Ruth De Etta Shaver

ONEONTA — Ruth De Etta Shaver, 92, of Oneonta, died Tuesday, May 16, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born Dec. 5, 1907, in Franklin, the daughter of Jamie and Susie (Howe) Ogden.

She married Amasa Junius Shaver on Nov. 29, 1931. Mr. Shaver was killed in World War II.

Ruth was a homemaker in her own home and had been a resident of Oneonta for more than 50 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Oneonta.

Ruth is survived by three granddaughters, Kathy Lynn Barahona of Great Falls, Va., Margaret Ann Kelly of Bainbridge and Renee June Philippi of Suwanee, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Chad Donald Kelly, Jennifer Lynn Kelly, Alicia Nicole Barahona, David Alexander Barahona and Matthew Dean Philippi; one niece, Sandra Reuter of Sun City, Ariz.; and one nephew, Melvin Ogden of Franklin.

She was predeceased by two sons, Donald Ogden Shaver, who died in 1987; and Robert J. Shaver, who died in 1932.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2000, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Raymond Lloyd, interim pastor of First Baptist Church, Oneonta officiating.

Burial will follow at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., Friday, May 19, 2000, at the funeral home prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Heart Association in memory of Ruth D. Shaver.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta and Otego.

Minnie M. Stevens

COOPERSTOWN — A graveside memorial service for Minnie M. Stevens, 93, who died Feb. 18, 2000, will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2000, at the Schenevus Cemetery, with the Rev. Joyce Allen, pastor of the Worcester and East Worcester United Methodist Churches, officiating.

Contributions may be made to The Meadows Activity Fund, 140 County Highway 33W, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Charlotte Necrason

ONEONTA — Graveside services to honor Mrs. Charlotte Pierson Necrason, 85, of Port St. Lucie, Fla., and formerly of Oneonta, who died on Oct. 2, 1999, will be held Saturday, May 20, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, officiating.

Friends are invited and family members will be attending the service.

Mary Whitbeck

FRANKLIN — A committal service for Mary Whitbeck will be held on Monday, May 22, 2000, at 1 p.m. in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin, with the Rev Norman Tiffany, pastor of the Sand Hill Methodist Church, officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mary Whitbeck to the Franklin Emergency Squad of Fire Department.

Arrangements are by the Kenneth L. Bennett Funeral Home in Franklin.

Helen M. Kettell

MORRIS — Helen M. Kettell, 89, formerly of Morris, died Thursday, May 18, 2000, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.

She was born April 5, 1911, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Daniel Francis O'Brian and Jane (Dooley) O'Brian.

She married Elmer Kettell in Brooklyn in 1928. He died in 1966.

She was a bookkeeper for the Bell Telephone Labs of New York City, retiring in 1975.

She moved to Morris 16 years ago and was formerly of Long Island.

She was a member of the "Pioneers of America" and the Senior Citizens Club of Lindenhurst.

Helen is survived by two children, Helen Eklund and her husband, Robert, of Garrattsville and David Kettell and his wife, Joan, of Boca Raton, Fla.; five sisters, Jane Rohr of Laguna Beach,  Calif., Mary Repetto of Durham, N.H., Veronica Sullivan of Laguna Beach,  Calif., Rita Hofsaes of Greeley, Pa., and Eleanor Zareski of Fairfax, Va.; a sister-in-law, Eileen O'Brian, of Piscataway, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Robert Eklund, Diane Klein and her husband, Barry, Christine J. Eklund, Nancy E. Campbell and her husband, Robert, Janet E. Eklund, Kim Rothenberg and her husband, Mitchell, David Kettell and his wife, Ruth; great-grandchildren include Sara, Erik, Elizabeth, Griag, Jenna, Gina, Kyle, Perri and Kattie.

She was predeceased by three brothers, John, Michael and Daniel O'Brian; and a sister, Florence Fassano.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 22, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris, with the Fr. John Burns officiating. Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.
