Florence L. France

COBLESKILL — Mrs. Florence Losee France, 72, of Cobleskill, passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2000, after a long illness, at The Meadows, where she has been a resident since 1994.

She was born in Warwick on June 5, 1927, the daughter of Edward and Bertha (Weiss) Losee.

On Nov. 6, 1954, in Edmeston, she married Graydon France, who survives.

Mrs. France retired as an insurance underwriter from the Sterling Insurance Co., where she had worked for many years.

Florence for many years had been a member of the Lady's Club of Seward, and also was a past member of the Choir of the Second Baptist Church of Edmeston, Faith Bible Church and Choir, Carlisle, and member of the Central Baptist Church in Melbourne, Fla.

Mrs. France is survived by her husband, Graydon France of Cobleskill; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Bruce Carter of Sharon Springs, Cathy and Howard Rickard of Cobleskill, and Bill Matters and Nancy of Fultonville; a son, Randy France of Cobleskill; seven grandsons; three granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Howard Talbot of Cooperstown; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Edward and Jean Losee, Frank and Eileen Losee, all of Edmeston, and Nellie Losee of New Jersey; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by a brother, Robert Losee.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory, Cherry Valley.

Memorial funeral services will be held on Monday, May 29, 2000, at 3 p.m. at the Second Baptist Church of Edmeston, with Pastor George Whitman officiating.

Private interment services will be held at a later date, at the convenience of the family, there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Mrs. France's memory may be made to Activity Fund of The Meadows, or to the Alzheimer's Association.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Ruth C. Parsons

WALTON — Ruth C. Parsons, 95, of Walton, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born May 4, 1905, in Bovina Center, the daughter of Walter G. and Margaret D. (Strangeway) Coulter.

She married the late William A. Parsons in Bovina Center on Feb. 18, 1933. A son, Herbert Parsons; and three grandsons, Scott Parsons, Jeffrey Scorzafava and Dale Parsons also predeceased her.

Two daughters, Margaret Jean (Harold) Merenberg of Schenectady and Mary C. (Ron) Scorzafava of Ovid and Lady Lake, Fla.; a son, Richard W. (Ann) Parsons of Harrisburg, Pa.; a sister, M. Celia Coulter of Walton and New Paltz; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Pat Parsons of Bovina Center; and several nieces and nephews survive.

Mrs. Parsons was a devoted mother and grandmother. She retired in 1972, from teaching, which included Bovina rural schools, Windsor rural schools and Delhi. She graduated from State University College at Oneonta in 1965.

Mrs. Parsons was a member for 86 years of the Bovina United Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and was the oldest member of the Dorcas Circle in that church. She was a member of the Delaware County Historical Association and an associate member of the Walton United Presbyterian Church.

Memorial services in her memory will take place at the Bovina United Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2000, with the Rev. Edward McNulty officiating. Burial will take place at Bovina Cemetery, Bovina.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Association for the Blind, American Cancer Society or an organization of one's choice.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Harold J. Ingram

MERIDALE — Harold J. Ingram, 78, a lifelong Meridale resident, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, after a short illness.

He was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Arena, the son of Clarence and Vinnie (Haynes) Ingram.

A United States Army veteran, Harold served in the Canal Zone during World War II.

He married Edna B. Wormuth on Nov. 15, 1959, in the Meredith Baptist Church of which he was a member.

A self-employed logger in earlier years, Harold was subsequently employed for 18 years as a school bus driver for Delaware Academy, Delhi, retiring in 1996.

He had been a member of the Meridale Fire Department, enjoyed repairing antique pocket watches and was a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Edna B. Ingram, at home; two daughters, Mary (John) Godfrey of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Betty (Doug) Benfer of Newburgh; one son, James A. (Sherry) Ingram of Meridale; two grandsons, James Jr. and Bryan Ingram; a brother, Willis (Nancy) Brown of Oneonta; a niece and a nephew.

Friends are invited to call after noon Wednesday, May 24, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, where the family will be in attendance and services will be conducted at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Mitchell Bush. Burial will be in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Meridale, at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family will appreciate memorials to the Meridale Fire Department or Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Hazel Dutcher

ST. JOHNSVILLE — Hazel Dutcher, 92, of St. Johnsville, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at St. Johnsville Nursing Home.

She was born March 10, 1908, in Charlotteville, the daughter of Clarence and Emma (Cornell) Morrison.

She married Lewis Dutcher on Sept. 15, 1926, in Oswego. He predeceased her Aug. 12, 1987.

Hazel and her husband were dairy farmers on Badeau Hill in Elk Creek from 1926 to 1984. Then they moved to Cobleskill.

Hazel is survived by her daughters, Louise and her husband, Richard Tardiff, of Whitesboro, Lois and her husband, William Whitney, of Esperance and Laurrel Maksel of Pattersonville; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Henry, and his wife, Leona Morrison, of Sidney; sisters, Marietta and her husband, Earl Mabie, of Florida and Verna Conahan of Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Bortle, Maynard, Clarence and James; and sisters, Jennie, Helen and Mabel.

A celebration of Hazel's life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 27, 2000, at the Elk Creek Cemetery, with the Rev. Rodney E. Johnson, pastor of the Cooperstown Junction United Methodist Church, officiating.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Hazel to the charity of one's choice.

Funeral arrangements are by the Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch St., Schenevus.

Marian Griffin

WALTON — Marian Griffin, 85, of 9 Quarry St., Walton, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at her home.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1914, in Downsville, to James and Mina Hitt.

She was married to Alvin Griffin on Dec. 31, 1932. He predeceased her in 1975.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Walton.

Marian Griffin is survived by a daughter, Betty Tweedie of Walton; two granddaughters, Diane Seidner and Karen Prestige of Walton; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, five sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2000, at 1 p.m. at Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc. Funeral Chapel, corner of North and Delaware streets, Walton, with the Rev. L. Lawrence Dunlap, pastor of her church, officiating. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday, May 24, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lyon Bros.-Way, Inc.

Funeral arrangements are by Lyon Bros.-Way Inc., 102 Delaware St., Walton, 865-5114.

Robert C. Chase Sr.

MILFORD — A committal service for Robert C. Chase Sr., who died Jan. 10, 2000, will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2000, at 10 a.m. in Milford Cemetery, with the Rev. Nancy Kozlowski, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Milford, officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Walter Utter

ONEONTA — A graveside committal service will be held Friday, May 26, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, for Walter Utter of Oneonta, who died April 10, 2000.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Ellis J. Bartrow

TREADWELL — A committal service for Ellis J. Bartrow, who died on Jan. 20, 2000, will be held on Friday, May 26, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the Croton Union Cemetery in Treadwell.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Ruth C. Parsons

WALTON — Ruth C. Parsons, 95, of Walton, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born May 4, 1905, in Bovina Center, the daughter of Walter G. and Margaret D. (Strangeway) Coulter.

Miriam DiGasbarro

PITTSFIELD — Miriam A. DiGasbarro, 64, of Pittsfield and formerly of Garrison, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000, at her home with her family at her side.

She was born Dec. 21, 1935, in North Tonawanda, the daughter of Kurt and Adeline (Hoefert) Osberg.

On June 21, 1958, in Jenkintown, Pa., she married Phillip DiGasbarro, who survives.

Miriam was an avid prize-winning gardener. She was a member of the Philipstown Garden Club in Garrison, and also tended the herb gardens at the Boscobel Restoration in Cold Spring.

She was a quilter and baker and will always be remembered as a good mother and grandmother.

She was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Berlin.

In addition to her husband, Phillip, she is survived by her children, Peter and Karen DiGasbarro of St. Louis, Vicki and Tim  Johnson of Edmeston, Michele and Bill Couperthwait of Otego and Lisa and Rick Hausman of Gainesville, Va.; her grandchildren, Christina, Phillip and Diana DiGasbarro, Alex, Susanna and Catherine  Johnson and Matthew, Ryan and Logan Hausman; her mother, Adeline Osberg; and her sisters, Karin Osberg and Jeanne McDevitt.

Funeral services for Miriam will be held Friday, May 26, 2000, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in New Berlin, with Fr. Charles  Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at St. Andrew's Cemetery. Calling hours are from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, May 25, at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are by the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Edith M. Sperbeck

WARNERVILLE — Mrs. Edith M. Sperbeck, 89, of Mineral Springs Road, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at the Vencor Hospital in Tampa, Fla.

Mrs. Sperbeck was born March 5, 1911, in Oneonta, the daughter of Linorn and Margaret (Montgomery) Blanchard.

Mrs. Sperbeck had lived in this area all of her life. While married, she and her husband owned and operated the Pleasantview Dairy Farm in Cobleskill.

Mrs. Sperbeck was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cobleskill. She was a former member of the East Cobleskill State School Grange and the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her husband, Ray Sperbeck, who died June 18, 1996.

Survivors include three daughters, Charlene Haviland of Tampa, Fla., Patricia Pierce of Howes Cave, and Cheryl Clapper of Stamford; two sons, Ronald Sperbeck of Cobleskill and David Sperbeck of Stamford; a sister, Ethel Woodbeck of Schenectady; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 26, 2000, at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 68 Elm St., Cobleskill. Officiating will be the Rev. James Ellis of the First Baptist Church of Cobleskill. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, May 25. Burial will be in the Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church, Main Street, Cobleskill, N.Y. 12043.

Milo B. Hopkins

GILBERTSVILLE — Milo B. Hopkins, 81, formerly of Gilbertsville, died Monday, May 22, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born April 13, 1919, in Gilbertsville, the son of Charles B. and Vera (Post) Hopkins.

He married Dorothy Myers in Gilbertsville on April 23, 1946. She died July 16, 1999.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II having served in Italy and Egypt.

He was a member of the Elks Club of Oneonta and enjoyed golfing, fishing, skiing and was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan.

Milo is survived by a son, Bruce Hopkins and his wife, Cheryl, of Oneonta; a granddaughter, Nicole Hopkins of Brooklyn; a brother-in-law, Eugene Quintin; and sisters-in-law, Jean Quintin and Rachel Gould. Several nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and -nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be Saturday, May 27, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Christ Episcopal Church in Gilbertsville, with the Rev. John Scott III and the Rev. Richard Frye officiating. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery in Gilbertsville. Calling hours will be on Friday, May 26, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnston Funeral Home in Morris.

In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to donate to either the American Cancer Society or the Catskill Area Hospice in his memory. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Bruce C. Dibble

EUSTIS, Fla. — Bruce Carlyle Dibble, 81, of Mount Dora, Fla.. died March 9, 2000, in Florida.

He was born July 11, 1918, in Bloomville, the son of Roland and Alta (Salsbury) Dibble.

His wife, Aletha Dibble, predeceased him in December 1999.

He was employed in trucking as a driver. The Dibbles spent the winter in Mount Dora, Fla., and summered in Caroga Lake, N.Y.

In Florida he attended the First United Methodist Church of Tavares and served on the Recreation Committee of Hibiscus Park, Mount Dora, Fla.; and was a member of the North Bush United Methodist Church in Caroga Lake, N.Y.

Mr. Dibble is survived by two sons, Michael Dibble of Foster, Okla., and Dickson Dibble of Monticello, Fla.; a daughter, Donna Allen of Astatula, Fla.; five grandchildren; and a brother, Roland "Junior" Dibble of Atwater,  Calif.

Services for Mr. Dibble will take place Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Richard Elder officiating, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. Burial for Mr. and Mrs. Dibble will follow in Valley View Cemetery, Rose's Brook, South Kortright, N.Y.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart, N.Y.
