Josephine Lord

GILBOA — Josephine (Peggy) Lord passed away at her daughter's home in Temple Terrace, Fla., on Oct. 26, 1999.

A native of Gilboa, she moved to Florida a year ago.

She was a member of the Grand Gorge United Methodist Church.

Josephine is survived by a son, Verlynn; a daughter, Adella (Michael) Machotka; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her dog, Sunni (a constant companion).

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May, 27, 2000, at the Manorkill Cemetery at 11 a.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford.

Gertrude McIntyre

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — A memorial service for Gertrude McIntyre, 80, of Richfield Springs, will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2000, at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, with the Rev. William Harkins, pastor, officiating.

Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Marjorie Miller

DELHI — Graveside services for Marjorie Brown Miller, who passed away in November 1999, will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2000, at Hamden Cemetery, Hamden, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Bert More officiating.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Oscar Jerminario

GOODYEAR LAKE — A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 28, 2000, at 11 a.m. at 245 Lake Shore Drive North, Goodyear Lake, for Oscar "Rip" Jerminario of Goodyear Lake, who died Jan. 5, 2000.

Donald L. Babbitt

HOUSTON,  Texas — Donald L. Babbitt, 79, died May 13, 2000, in Houston,  Texas, of an apparent cerebrovascular accident.

He was born in Oneonta, N.Y., on Nov. 4, 1920, to Charles H. Babbitt and Florence Watt.

He grew up there and graduated from Oneonta High School. He attended Art College in New York City for two years, entered the United States Army Air Corps in 1941, and served in England and Belgium during World War II.

He also played guitar in a small band around the Oneonta area before the war. After the war he met and married Margaret E. Powers of Norwich, N.Y., and together they raised five children, Alvin, Sharon, Lori, Donna and Charles.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1964, and returned to Oneonta and then Norwich.

He worked for 20 years for the Blue Bird Restaurant and Bakery in Norwich until he retired in 1985.

He was predeceased by his wife in 1984, in Norwich.

He was a lifelong lover of Big Band music, a member of the VFW, the American Legion and played his guitar daily until arthritis prevented it. He left Norwich in 1990 and has lived with each of his daughters for brief years of late.

He was greatly loved.

He is survived by his sons, Alvin Senese of Manassas, Va., and Charles D. Babbitt; and daughters, Sharon Sylvester of Centreville, Md.; Lori Delasalle of Houston,  Texas, and Donna Babbitt of Cape Coral, Fla.

Laura I. Albaugh

CARROLLTON, Ohio — A memorial service will be held for Laura I. Albaugh at Hartwick Cemetery, Sunday, May 28, 2000. She died April 12, 2000. She was 58.

She was the owner of My Pets Beauty Salon, Ohio. She was active in her Church Voash at Lake Voash, Ohio. She was a member of the Humane Society of Stark County. She was a professional photographer.

She was predeceased by her father, Lyle McLean, and sister, Elizabeth McLean.

Laura is survived by her husband, Vernon Albaugh; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and Larry Perlin of Santa Cruz,  Calif., Renee Keesler of Soquel,  Calif., and Marlene and Eric Boydston of Columbus, Ohio; one son and daughter-in-law, Marlin and Jeanne Keesler of Chicago, Ill.; two stepchildren, Lisa Clements and husband, Pat, of Lakeland, Fla., and Jeffrey Albaugh and wife, Janice of Hillsboro, N.C.; mother, Minnie McLean of South Edmeston; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Don Saunders of Eskridge, Kan., Judy and Raymond Vibbard of Springville, Pa., and Rita and Michael Andrews of West Oneonta; one brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Sharon McLean of Burlington Flats; 11 grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.

Edgar J. Hyatt

EAST GUILFORD — Edgar J. Hyatt, 82, of state Highway 8, East Guilford, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 25, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Feb. 21, 1918, in Guilford. Mr. Hyatt was the son of the late Joseph and Lillian Beale Hyatt.

On Aug. 24, 1944, he married Flora Thurston. She predeceased him Nov. 2, 1977. Edgar later married Cora North Wheat on May 23, 1979.

He was employed for several years by NYSEG at the Jennison Plant in Bainbridge.

Ed was a member of the East Guilford Presbyterian Church and served his church in numerous capacities. He was a former member of the East Guilford Cemetery Board.

Edgar is survived by his wife, Cora Hyatt, of East Guilford; son, John W. Davis, of East Guilford; daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Jeff Springston, of Baltimore, Md.; two stepsons and daughter-in-law, Oscar and Ruth Wheat and Jack Wheat; three stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Joe Sparks, Lorraine and John Blaise and Barbara Morcomb; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at the East Guilford Presbyterian Church, East Guilford.

Burial will be at his family's convenience in the East Guilford Cemetery, with the Rev. Donald Boardman, Gilbertsville, officiating.

At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the East Guilford Cemetery in care of Mrs. Lola Palmer, 2570 County Route 35, Bainbridge, N.Y. 13733.

Arrangements are by the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Teresa A. Rogers

ONEONTA — Teresa A. Rogers, 72, of Oneonta, died Thursday, May 25, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital.

She was born in New York City on Dec. 19, 1927, the daughter of Cornelius and Theresa (Bell) Evans.

She married Frank Rogers on Dec. 20, 1947, in New York City.

An area resident since 1973, moving here from New York City, Teresa was a member of St. Mary's Church.

She was a member of Rockaway Beach Post 6191 VFW Ladies Auxiliary and served as its president in 1960 and 1970.

Teresa is survived by her husband, Frank Rogers, of Oneonta; three daughters and their spouses, Eileen and William Dorritie of Mount Vision, Patricia and Douglas Eggleton of Goodyear Lake and Susan and Gary Utter of Rochester; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased by a son, Frank, in 1990.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call on Tuesday, May 30, 2000, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home after 2 p.m. The family will be in attendance from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School Building Fund.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Walter Dewey Jr.

CHERRY VALLEY — Mr. Walter E. Dewey Jr., 66, passed away Friday, May 26, 2000, at his home after a long bout with cancer.

He was born June 29, 1933, in Oneonta, the son of Walter E. and Ida V. (Hutchings) Dewey.

Mr. Dewey attended Cooperstown High School and was an honorably discharged veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army.

He worked as a carpenter for Neilson Construction, Oneonta.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, New Hartford, the American Legion and Hudson Valley Carpenters Local No. 19.

Mr. Dewey is survived by a dear friend and caregiver, Thelma Manon; three sons, Mark C. Dewey, Craig S. Dewey, both of Pueblo,  Colo., and Jack Dewey of Orlando, Fla.; two daughters, Brenda Dewey of Orlando, Fla., and Meghan Dewey of Oneonta; grandchildren, Kyle Dewey (son of Craig), Cherokee Dewey (daughter of Brenda); two brothers, Charles H. Dewey of Burke, Va., and Robert J. Dewey of Granbury,  Texas; and a sister, Patricia D. Dubois, of Cooperstown.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

There will be no public services.

Contributions in Mr. Dewey's memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Ruth Janet

(Winters) Rabeler

ONEONTA — A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ruth Janet (Winters) Rabeler will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Atonement on Sunday, May 28, 2000, at 2 p.m.

A longtime resident of Oneonta, Ruth passed away on Dec. 20, 1999, after a brief hospitalization in Ann Arbor, Mich.

After her graduation from Syracuse Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and Syracuse University in 1949, she came to Oneonta, where she served as school nurse in the Oneonta Consolidated School System until 1953. In 1962, she became the clinical instructor in the School of Practical Nursing then being formed at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital. She became the director of the program in 1967, a position she held until her retirement in 1980.

Ellen Rockafellow

SOUTH WORCESTER — The committal service for Ellen J. Rockafellow, who went to be with the Lord on Feb. 18, 2000, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at the Charlotteville Cemetery with the Rev. James Ellis, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Cobleskill, officiating.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

Maurice Winkler

ATLANTA, Ga. — Maurice Winkler of Atlanta, Ga., will be buried Sunday, May 28, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Sylvia Halleck, of Atlanta, Ga.; and a sister, Theresa Gilbert, of Long Island.

Thanks to the E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel in Worcester for their assistance.

Marjory Tobey

GILBERTSVILLE — Marjory Estella Tobey, 79, of Gilbertsville, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Wilson Memorial Hospital in  Johnson City.

She was born Jan. 8, 1921, in the town of Pittsfield, the daughter of Harry and Jennie Estella (Gregory) Perkins.

She graduated from South New Berlin Central School 60 years ago.

She married George Tobey on Dec. 19, 1940, in the South New Berlin First Baptist Church. George died Nov. 8, 1990.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville and was an elder on the Session and a member of the church women's circle. She was also a member of the Butternuts Valley Garden Club and the Tuesday Afternoon Thimble Club. She was also an avid oil painter.

Marjory is survived by her children, John Tobey and his wife, K.C., of Albuquerque, N.M., Douglas Tobey and his wife, Janet, of Gilbertsville, Richard Tobey of Rifle,  Colo., Estella Ann Loitsch of Goodyear Lake, and Janice Pollard and her husband, James, of Greene; five grandchildren, Mark, Tammy, Patrick and Regina Tobey and Colin Pollard; five great-grandchildren, Chris, Glen, Darren, Aleah and Jacob.

She was predeceased by a son, James, in 1959; two brothers, Louis and Arthur Perkins; and a sister, Bertha Whitaker.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, June 1, 2000, at 7 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church in Gilbertsville, with the Rev. Dr. Donald Boardman officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the undercroft of the church.

The family requests no flowers and donations may be made to the Gilbertsville Emergency Squad or the First Presbyterian Church of Gilbertsville in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Virginia E. Deuel

CLIFTON PARK — Virginia E. Deuel, of Spyglass Hill, formerly of Corning and Batavia, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at her residence in Clifton Park.

Born in Chicago, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Carroll and Hazel Partridge Edson.

She was a graduate of Colby Junior College in New London, N.H., and Syracuse University where she earned a bachelor's degree in education.

Mrs. Deuel was a homemaker and was involved in various community organizations. She was a member of Christ Community Reformed Church in Clifton Park.

Mrs. Deuel was the beloved wife of Regis P. Deuel of Clifton Park; devoted mother and mother-in-law of Timothy E. (Joan) (Lockburner) Deuel of Richford, and the late Lucinda Dean (Doug Dean) of Basking Ridge, N.J.; sister of Lucille Smith of Concord, Mass., and David Edson of Randolph, Vt.; sister-in-law of Peter Smith of Concord, Mass., Betty Edson of Randolph, Vt., George and Velma Deuel of Clearwater, Fla., and Raymond and Phyllis Deuel of Vestal; grandmother of Scott Dean and Ted and Fred Deuel; and an aunt to several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited and may attend a memorial service on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Christ Community Reformed Church, 1010 Route 146, Clifton Park, where the Rev. Robert J. DeYoung, pastor, will officiate.

There will be no calling hours.

Interment will be held in Brookfield Cemetery, Brookfield, Vt.

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 1450 Western Ave., Albany, N.Y. 12203, in memory of Virginia E. Deuel.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Route 9 in Clifton Park.

Anthony S. Bove

FLEISCHMANNS — Anthony S. Bove, 38, of Fleischmanns, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, on state Route 30, Halcottsville.

He was born July 5, 1961, in Brooklyn, the son of Ida Farley and Stephen Bove.

He was engaged to Nadine Arguez of Fleischmanns.

He was employed at Belleayre Ski Center and was also a self-employed painting contractor.

He graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1979, having been very active in the sports programs. He played softball with several area teams and played in many softball tournaments.

Anthony is survived by his mother, Ida Bove of Delhi; sisters, Diane Bove of Hattiesburg, Miss., Pat Bove of Hattiesburg, Miss., and Regina Spatafora and a brother-in-law, Anthony Spatafora, of Orlando, Fla.; nephew and godson, Daniel Bove; nephew, Jason Spatafora; nieces, Tami and Tiffany Spatafora; fiancιe, Nadine Arguez; and children, Arielle Arguez and David Arguez of Fleischmanns.

He was predeceased by his father, Stephen Bove, who died Sept. 23, 1988.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Thursday, June 1, 2000, at the Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell, celebrant. Burial will be in the Margaretville Cemetery, Margaretville.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, May 31, 2000, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Contributions may be made in memory of Anthony S. Bove to the Humane Society of Central Delaware County, Route 10, Delhi, N.Y.

Arrangements are by Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.
