Mary J. DeVaul

NEW BERLIN — Mary J. DeVaul, 73, died Monday, June 19, 2000, at the University Hospital, Syracuse.

She was born April 8, 1927, in Jamesville.

She was a resident of the Chittenango area for 20 years, before moving to New Berlin more than 20 years ago.

She was a homemaker.

She was married to Howard R. DeVaul Sr. for 50 years.

Mary is survived by her husband, Howard R. DeVaul; her daughter, Cynthia A. Neilsen of New Berlin; three sons, Charles R. of Centerville, Ohio, Howard R. Jr. of Zephyrhills, Fla., and Ronald E. of Whitesboro; 18 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 9:30 a.m., Friday at the G.F. Zimmer Funeral Home, 702 Legion Drive, Chittenango. Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Contributions may be made to the family.

James J. DeGroat

PENSACOLA, Fla. — James J. DeGroat, 68, formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., and Nyack, died on Wednesday, June 14, 2000, in Plantation, Fla.

Mr. DeGroat was born on March 15, 1932, in Oneonta, N.Y., the son of Charles W. and Marguerite Carson Corr DeGroat.

He graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in Civil Engineering.

He is survived by his wife, Diva; and daughters, Cheryl and Lauren; his brothers, Charles W. DeGroat and Edward G. DeGroat; his sisters, MaryJo Carlon and Anne Herrfurth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, N.Y., with the Rev. Paul Roman, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons, N.Y.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta, N.Y.

Joseph P. Glowicki

PORT RICHEY, Fla. — Joseph P. Glowicki, 53, of Port Richey, Fla., died Saturday, June 17, 2000, at home.

He was born in  Jefferson, N.Y., and came to Florida in 1988, from New Jersey.

He was a private investigator and owned and operated Glowicki Investigations.

He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Hudson, Fla.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Shirley of Wyano, Pa.; two daughters, Rochelle Glowicki of Port Richey, Fla. and Christine Piperato of New Jersey; his mother, Louise Glowicki of Port Richey, Fla.; and a brother, Raymond of Sharon Springs, N.Y.

Dignified Funeral Alternatives of Holiday, Fla., is handling arrangements.

Marion M. Piccolo

RICHMONDVILLE — Mrs. Marion M. Piccolo, 80, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2000, at Bassett Healthcare of Schoharie County, Cobleskill.

She was born May 17, 1920, in Oneonta, the daughter of Philip J. and Lillian (Genter) Moore.

On Oct. 21, 1950, she married Michael W. Piccolo in Voorheesville. He died in 1989.

Mrs. Piccolo was a 1938 graduate of Cherry Valley School. She owned and operated Piccolo's Antiques in Richmondville.

Survivors include three sons, Stephen Piccolo of Las Vegas, LeGrand Countryman of Sharon Springs and Michael Piccolo Jr. of Richmondville; two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Fredericka) Waid of Sharon Springs and Mrs. Carl (Lillian) Ilowiecki of Cobleskill; a brother, Victor Moore of Erie, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Jay (Ada) Ryder of Syracuse; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother, Chester Moore in 1995.

Cremation took place at The Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 26, 2000, at the Ottman Funeral Home in Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Richard Bean, of the Biking for God Ministries, officiating.

Contributions in Mrs. Piccolo's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice,

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Robert B. Goody

DEMAREST, N.J. — Robert B. Goody, 85, of Demarest, N.J., and Springfield, N.Y., died June 2, 2000, in the Hackensack University Hospital, Hackensack, N.J.

Robert Goody is survived by his wife, Helen (Cohen) Goody; daughters, Barbara Katz of New York, Rabbit Goody of Cherry Valley, Nancy Goody-Bell of Kingston, N.Y.; and son-in-law, Thomas Krieg of Milford, N.Y.

Robert and Helen Goody have been summer residents at Pioneer Point on Otsego Lake for 22 years.

Robert Goody, a graduate of Clarkson College, Potsdam, N.Y., in electrical engineering and metallurgy, held patents for the circuit breaker and conductive bus bars for Federal Pacific Electric Co., and patents for guidance systems for the Naval Department. He held the highest HAM radio licenses and commercial radio engineering licenses.

He was an avid boater and participated in Otsego 2000 as an advocate for keeping Otsego Lake clean.

A memorial service and potluck picnic will be held Sunday, July 2, 2000, at 12:30 p.m., Pioneer Point, Route 80, Springfield, N.Y.

Louise C. Mosher

NEW WOODSTOCK — Louise C. Mosher, 79, of New Woodstock, died June 19, 2000, at Crouse Community Center, Morrisville.

Louise was born in Oneonta and was a graduate of Groton College in Providence, R.I.

She owned and operated Mosher's Grill in New Woodstock and was a member of Malcolm  Taylor Post 1572, American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Madison Mosher; two sons, Howard Mosher of Sheds and Robert Mosher of Delphi Falls; and three grandchildren.

Calling hours are Saturday, June 24, 2000, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home, DeRuyter, to be immediately followed by the funeral service.

Alma Naylor Elliott

MORRIS — Alma Naylor Elliott died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at her home in Morris.

She was born March 26, 1916, the daughter of Dr. Howard W. and Dorothy Russell Naylor of Morris.

She graduated from Morris Central School and Cornell University School of Hotel Administration. She then managed the Cavalier Hotel Beach Club in Virginia Beach, Va., until she married Francis R. Elliott in 1941.

Alma returned to Morris and joined her father in his veterinary pharmaceutical business while Fran served in World War II.

Alma was involved in the management of the H.W. Naylor Co. for more than 40 years, serving for several years as president.

Alma loved Morris and was very active in community affairs. She was a Cub Scout leader and den mother, and was also very active in the Morris School PTA and the American Legion Auxiliary. Alma was the first woman to serve on the Morris Central School Board of Education and the first to serve on the Vestry of Zion Episcopal Church.

Alma enjoyed traveling and was able to make trips throughout the United States and to several overseas countries. She was never daunted by the multiple sclerosis that she battled for much of her adult life. In her last years Alma was grateful that she could stay in her own home due to the loving assistance and caregiving of Vicky Miller, Sue Zock, Amanda Cimko, Kathy Weisenbarger and Melodie Griffin, and the ever-compassionate and vigilant care of Jim Herbert, F.N.P.

Alma is survived by her eldest son, Howard Elliott, and his wife, Eileen, of Morris; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Elliott of West Laurens; and three very dear grandsons, Brian Elliott and his wife, Hope, of Charlotte, N.C., John N. Elliott and his fiancee, Amy Lageman, of York, Pa., and Nathan Elliott of Worcester, Mass. She is also survived by her dear brother-in-law, Edward Elliott of Morris; and her nephew and nieces, Lynn Elliott of Cedar City, Utah, Julie French of New Hartford and Jamie  Johnson of West Oneonta. Three special cousins also survive her, Marcia Wilber of Lake Elsinore,  Calif., Polly Winroth of Aloha, Ore., and Edith Pierson of Eliot, Maine.

Alma was predeceased by her dear son, John R. Elliott, in 1999, and her former husband, Francis, in 1976.

At Alma's request, her body was cremated at the Hillington Crematory.

A memorial service will be held at Zion Episcopal Church in Morris on Monday, July 3, 2000, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. John Scott III officiating. The family will receive friends in the Zion Parish House after the service.

Memorial donations may be made to Zion Episcopal Church, care of Treasurer, P.O. Box 267, Morris, N.Y. 13808, and the Village Library of Morris, P.O. Box 126, Morris, N.Y. 13808.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Georgia Gardner

HOBART — Georgia Marie Gardner, 65, formerly of Hobart, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000, in Nutley, N.J.

She was born Jan. 11, 1935, in Kingston. She lived most of her life in Hobart, and the last year in Nutley, N.J.

She belonged to the Catholic Daughters in South Kortright and the Stamford-Harpersfield Senior Citizens.

Survived by her son, William Gardner; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Phillips of Hobart and Mary Drotos of  Texas.

A brother, Harold Kline, predeceased her.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, June 26, 2000, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Most Precious Blood in South Kortright, with Fr. Joseph Manerowski officiating. Calling hours are Sunday, June 25, 2000, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. Burial will follow the service at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.

Jolene M. Bush

WALTON — Jolene M. Bush, 50, of Walton, was called home to be with her Lord Jesus on Wednesday, June 21, 2000.

She was born on Feb. 20, 1950, in Walton, to Joseph and Theresa (Capiello) Watson.

She was married to Mitchell Bush on March 24, 1972, in Cadosia. She was a homemaker and member of the Meredith Baptist Church, Meredith.

Mrs. Bush is survived by her husband, Pastor Mitchell Bush of the Meredith Baptist Church who resides in Walton; daughters, Kellie Bush and Kristi Bush, both of Walton; sisters, Diana Gorshack of Binghamton and Florida and Janet Culligan of Roscoe and Florida; and a granddaughter, Michaela.

Funeral services will be Friday, June 23, 2000, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 55 Townsend St., Walton, with the Rev. Allen Bujno, pastor, officiating, followed by burial in Walton Cemetery. Calling hours were held on Thursday, June 22, 2000.

Funeral arrangements were by the Lyon Bros.-Way Inc. Funeral Chapel, corner of North and Delaware streets in Walton.

Ray W. Voege

STAMFORD — Ray W. Voege, 68, of 150 West Main St., Stamford, a retired television makeup artist, died Friday, June 23, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Sept. 4, 1931, in New York City, the son of William J. and Elizabeth (Armstrong) Voege. He married Norma Serrilli on July 7, 1962, in Edgewater, N. J.

Ray was a television makeup artist for NBC from 1953 to 1985 and also for CBS from 1985 to his retirement in 1989. He was also President Richard Nixon's personal makeup artist from 1968 to 1973. He was also director of makeup for the Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson. He received an Emmy nomination in 1989 for his work on the "As the World Turns" daytime soap opera.

A veteran of the United States Army, Ray was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Stamford and a member of the American Legion at Edgewater, N.J. He had lived in Davenport and Stamford for the past 28 years.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Voege of Stamford; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James and Gail Voege of Severna Park, Md., and Douglas Voege of Holly Hill, Fla.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the funeral home at their convenience Monday afternoon and evening, June 26, 2000. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford, with the Rev. Stephen Herring, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church in Stamford, officiating. Burial will be in Stamford Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Ray's memory to the First Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Joyce C. DiDonna

UNADILLA — Joyce C. DiDonna, 56, of Unadilla died Friday, June 23, 2000, at her home.

She was born Sept. 21, 1943, in Sidney, the daughter of Herbert and Marguerite (O'Halloran) Carlson.

She was a graduate of Sidney Central School, Class of 1961, and Douglas College, New Brunswick, N.J. She had been employed as a supervisor for the Otsego County Department of Social Services in Cooperstown.

She was a member of CSEA, a former member of the First Congregational Church in Sidney and a former active member and leader of the Sidney Girl Scouts.

Joyce is survived by her daughters, Melissa DiDonna of Unadilla and Christine DiDonna of  Jefferson; her parents, Herbert and Marguerite Carlson of Unadilla; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Kathy Carlson of Fremont, Ind.; two nieces, Katrina and Kristen Carlson; and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2000, at the Westcott Funeral Home, 112 Main St., Unadilla, with the Rev. Michael J. Shank, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney, officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 E. Main St., Sidney.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Leslie Armstrong

PITTSFIELD — Leslie A. Armstrong, 79, of Pittsfield, died Thursday, June 22, 2000, in Watertown.

He was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Sherburne, the son of Alton and Goldia (Stephens) Armstrong.

He spent his childhood in the Sherburne area. He was a graduate of Sherburne Central School.

He married Ruth Keene on Feb. 6, 1943, in Norwich. She died July 4, 1988.

He was employed as a feed salesman and dairy farmer in the New Berlin area.

Leslie is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Eleanor Armstrong of New Hartford; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Jerry Nail of Earlville; along with daughters Ruth Armstrong of Sackets Harbor and Ann Armstrong of Farmington, N.H.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

A son, Jeffrey Armstrong, died in 1992.

Calling hours are Sunday, June 25, 2000, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

The funeral will be Monday, June 26, 2000, at 3 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, with the Rev. Stephen Reese of the Columbus Community Church, Columbus, officiating.

Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the Otsego County Hospice.
