Oscar V. Jones

OTEGO — Oscar V. Jones, 88, of Otego died Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Wilson Hospital,  Johnson City.

He was born April 7, 1912, in Brown Station, the son of Victor and Rosie (Lane) Jones.

During his working years, Oscar was a sheet metal worker for Linn Coach and Medicoach of Oneonta.

His early years were spent in the Arkville area and the last 56 years of his life were spent in Otego.

He was a veteran of the United States Army and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and yardwork.

He is survived by his son, Paul  Jones of Otego; a brother, Wilbur  Jones of Tuxedo, N.C.; two sisters, Rosaline Constable of Fleischmanns and Beatrice Dunham of Kingston; along with several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, on Sunday, June 25, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m., when the family will be in attendance.

A funeral service will be held Monday, June 26, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Ken Baldwin, chaplain of Elbert N. Patton VFW Post 1206, Oneonta, officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Lillian T. Lamb

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Lillian T. Lamb, 51, of Hyde Park, 4862 state Highway 28, Cooperstown, died Saturday afternoon, June 24, 2000, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown after a brief but fierce battle with cancer. She has moved on to be in a better place.

Lilly was born on Oct. 1, 1948, in Cooperstown, a daughter of Arthur B. and Velma (Kilts) Collier, both of whom have predeceased her.

She married Larry J. Lamb on Aug. 30, 1969, in Cooperstown.

Lilly lived and loved her whole life in the Hyde Park area of Cooperstown.

She was educated at the Cooperstown Central School and graduated with the Class of 1966. Following graduation she attended the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill and then started her career working in the Medical Records Department of the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital. She was then employed by the Otsego County Department of Social Services for 18 years. In later years, she was a court clerk for the town of Hartwick and had been an elections inspector in District 2 of the Hartwick Election Board.

A member of the Hartwick Fire Department Company No. 2 Auxiliary, Lilly was also a member of the C.S.E.A. and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society of Upstate New York.

She enjoyed the free and simple things in life; sunrises, sunsets and the changing seasons. She cared for most living things, especially her little Jack Russell, "Bingo."

Lilly will be truly missed by those who were fortunate enough to get to know and love her.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Larry J. Lamb of Hyde Park; her son, William (Scott) and his wife, Charlene (Schutts) Lamb of Cordova, Ill.; and her daughter, Sherri Lamb and granddaughter, Ashley Fairchild of Cooperstown. Lilly is also survived by three siblings, her older brother, Stuart and his wife, Lois (Wick) Collier of Fayetteville, her older sister, Linda and her husband, Robert Nuzzo of Clay and her younger brother, Steven and his wife, Evelyn (Banner) Collier of Cooperstown; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2000, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Ronald Fralick, pastor of the Cherry Valley Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 1 p.m. until service time, when Lillian's family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Upstate New York Chapter, 1650 South Ave., Suite 100, Rochester, N.Y. 14620; to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820; to the American Cancer Society, 57 Front St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905-4797 or to a special fund at Bassett Hospital Federal Credit Union, Bassett Healthcare, 1 Atwell Road, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326 which will be used to help purchase an electronic communicator and associated tools to be used by the Speech and Language Rehabilitation Department to better serve patients who are unable to communicate their needs and wants while in the hospital.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Anna  Johnson King

COOPERSTOWN — Anna  Johnson King, 85, of Cooperstown, died Sunday morning, June 25, 2000, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse.

Anna was born on Jan. 5, 1915, in Brooklyn, a daughter of Edward and Anna (Strom) Johnson.

She grew up in Cooperstown with the Nate Willis family, and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown.

Educated in Cooperstown schools, she graduated from Cooperstown High School with the Class of 1932. Following graduation, she attended Westminster College and graduated from the Mildred Elley Secretarial School in Albany.

On June 18, 1936, she married Stephen F. King at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Cooperstown.

Through the years she was employed as a legal secretary as well as for the Otsego County Treasurer's Office. Her lifelong "work," however, was as a homemaker for her family. She loved her home, the farm and the animals.

Since October of 1998, Anna had resided at the Heritage Apartments, Loretto Complex, in Syracuse.

Anna was predeceased by her husband, Steve, who died Jan. 8, 1995.

She is survived by her three children, Stephen F. King Jr. of Syracuse, Sandra Richmond of Connecticut and Susan King Elkan of Cooperstown; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister and brother; and several nieces and nephews.

A private funeral service will be held at the family's convenience at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Index.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember Anna may make expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions to the Leatherstocking Region Branch Office of the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 1364, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Mary Allen

MOUNT VISION — Mary Elizabeth (Helmick) Allen, 88, of Mount Vision died Saturday, June 24, 2000, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

She was born Sept. 16, 1911, in Cherry Creek, the daughter of Clarence L. and Blanche (Spencer) Helmick.

She married the late Richard Allen in 1928. She and her husband operated a dairy farm in the town of New Lisbon and she also worked for a number of years at M.I. Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She belonged to several organizations: the Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Otsego County, the Tianderah Chapter of the DAR and the Garrattsville Women's Society of the Methodist and Presbyterian churches. She was also a longtime Republican Committee Woman for the town of New Lisbon. She was a member of the Garrattsville Methodist Church.

She is survived by her son-in-law and daughter, George and Virginia Schoradt of New Lisbon; her sister, Clarice H. Rhodes of Haynesville, N.C.; and her grandchildren, Karin (Schoradt) Gann of New Lisbon, Mary Elizabeth (Craft) Steinmetz of Weston, Neb., Richard Craft of Lincoln, Neb., Steven Craft of Olimpia, Wash., Robert Craft of Lincoln, Neb., Gail (Craft) Arp of Weston, Neb., and Michael Hughes of Fargo N.D. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Richard; her daughter, Mary Hughes and a great-grandson, Jamie Steinmetz.

There will be no calling hours.

The funeral will be private.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a memorial donation in her honor to the Garrattsville Methodist Church, Garrattsville.

Arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home, Morris.

Eudora Rutherford

FRANKLIN — Eudora M. Rutherford, 90, of Franklin died unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, June 25, 2000.

She was born on Oct. 15, 1909, in Meridale, the daughter of the late Leonard and Elizabeth Kellog Gesell.

She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander, in 1961, two sons, Raymond in 1991 and Donald in 1992, six brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by a son, Clyde Rutherford and his wife, Jeannette, of Otego; a daughter, Mary Jane Beers and her husband, Cappy, of Franklin; two daughters-in-law, Marie Rutherford of Franklin and Elaine Rutherford of Otego; eight grandchildren, Donna Wood, Dean Rutherford, Dale Rutherford, Jeffery Rutherford, Melanie Keator, Diane Krol, Nancy Gorelick and Darryl Beers; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mrs. Rutherford was a lifetime resident of the area, marrying Alexander Rutherford on Nov. 15, 1925, in Meridale.

She was employed for many years with Bendix (Amphenol Corp.) in Sidney, until her retirement in 1975.

She was a member of the Aldrich Baptist Church, and was an avid gardener who enjoyed the outdoors.

She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be missed by all.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Dr. Lyle Linder, pastor of the Franklin and Treadwell United Methodist churches, officiating. Interment will be in Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Franklin Emergency Squad or the American Cancer Society in Eudora's memory.

Janet L. Gundelach

ANDES — Janet L. Gundelach, 73, of Andes died June 23, 2000, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, after a short illness.

She was born Oct. 20, 1926, in New Rochelle, the daughter of Fred Hessler and Vivian Kaiser.

She married Harold Gundelach on Sept. 27, 1947, in New Rochelle.

Janet assisted her husband with the Gundelach business in New Rochelle.

She moved to the Catskill Mountains in 1974, from New Rochelle.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Margaretville. She was a volunteer at the Margaretville Memorial Hospital.

She loved birds, flowers and cooking for her family.

Janet is survived by her husband, Harold Gundelach of Andes; daughter, Gail, and son-in-law, Paul, of New Canaan, Conn.; son, Garry, and daughter-in-law, Karen, of Wausau, Wis.; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church, Margaretville, with the Rev. Dr. George Carpenter officiating. Committal service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at the Beechwood Cemetery, New Rochelle.

The family will receive their friends today from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Margaretville.

Contributions may be made in memory of Janet to the Memorial Fund of the United Methodist Church, Margaretville.

Funeral arrangements are by Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Madeline Takush

EAST WORCESTER — Madeline Takush, 82, of East Worcester died Friday, June 23, 2000, at the Eden Park Nursing Home, Cobleskill.

She was born July 26, 1917, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Frederick and Frances (Zinner) Swartz.

She married Vincent Takush. He died in 1976.

She has been an East Worcester resident for the past 16 years, and was formerly of Rocky Point, Long Island.

She was a homemaker.

She attended St. Anna's Roman Catholic Church in Summit and was a member of the Worcester Senior Citizens.

Madeline is survived by a son, Fred Anderson of Richmondville; a daughter, Dorothy Reina of East Worcester; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. today at the E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel, Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding officiating.

Calling hours will be held today from 2 to 4 and from 7 until service time.

Contributions may be made in her memory to the Eden Park Nursing Home, Parkway Drive, Cobleskill, N.Y. 12043.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

Frances G. Finne

MARYLAND — Frances G. Finne, 93, passed away Friday, June 23, 2000, at A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born July 11, 1906, in Brooklyn, the daughter of John David and Sarah (Hamilton) Miller, both born in Ireland.

In 1926, she married Hans Christian Finne. Hans was born in Stavanger, Norway.

Frances was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and she was especially fond of the caring wives and husbands of her grandchildren.

She will be missed very much by all of her family and friends. "We love you, Mom."

Mrs. Finne is survived by two sons, Victor of Maryland and John and his wife of Florida; a daughter, Helene Montgomery of Oneonta; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Florence V. Naso

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Florence V. Naso, 90, of Charlotte, N.C., died on Wednesday, June 21, 2000, at Mecklenburg Health Care Center.

Mrs. Naso was born on Jan. 9, 1910, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of the late Vincent Lotito and Julia Moretti Lotito.

A member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, she was a registered nurse, having graduated from Cumberland Hospital School of Nursing in Brooklyn.

Mrs. Naso was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Stephen J. Naso.

Dr. and Mrs. Naso resided in Grand Gorge, N.Y., for 25 years where Dr. Naso was a family doctor for many area residents.

Mrs. Naso is survived by her three sons, Dr. Stephen J. Naso Jr. and his wife, Ann Naso, of Isle of Palms, S.C., Dr. Richard A. Naso of Las Vegas, Nev., and Dr. Robert Naso and his wife, Dawn, of Gaithersburg, Md.; her daughter, Virginia N. Hull and her husband, Robert, of Prattsville, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren, Stephen Naso III and wife, Susan, of Jacksonville, Fla., Julie Rea and husband, Mike, of Charlotte, N.C., William Naso and wife, Nicolette, of Florence, S.C., Kevin R. Hull and his wife, Ann, of Stamford, N.Y., Dennis G. Hull and his wife, Annie, of Prattsville, N.Y., Stephanie Casale and her husband, Andrew, of Troy, N.Y., Kathy Hull of Prattsville, N.Y., Stephanie Naso of West Hollywood,  Calif., and Christopher Naso of Gaithersburg, Md. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Naso's grandchildren have many special memories of the times that they spent with their grandparents in Grand Gorge, N.Y.

Mrs. Naso was a member of the St. Philip Neri Church and active in many organizations while residing in Grand Gorge. She was a member of the Grand Gorge school board, St. Philip Neri Altar Society and the Delaware County Women's Republican Club.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Saturday, June 24, 2000, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Charlotte, N.C. Interment was at Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery in Charlotte.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Naso's name to the Alzheimer's Association, Leatherstocking Region Branch Office, Hunt College Union, State University College at Oneonta, Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, or Robinson Terrace Residential Care Facility, Harper Street, Stamford, N.Y. 12167.

Genevieve Bresee

WEST ONEONTA — Genevieve G. Bresee, 86, of Clearwater, Fla., and West Oneonta died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at Rosses Adult Home in Maryland, after a lengthy illness.

She was born Dec. 11, 1913, in Otsdawa, the daughter of William and Katherine (Tilley) Gardner.

She married Floyd Allen Bresee on Oct. 10, 1932, in Cooperstown. Mr. Bresee died in 1997.

Mrs. Bresee was a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service until her retirement in 1984. She and her husband had also owned and operated a gas station in Hartwick and in her earlier years worked at the Cooperstown Baker in Cooperstown.

Mrs. Bresee is survived by one son, William Bresee of Clearwater, Fla.; one daughter, Joyce Bresee; a son-in-law, Jerry O'Driscoll, of Clearwater, Fla.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Linda O'Driscoll in 1997.

A private memorial service will be held following cremation at the Hartwick Cemetery in Hartwick, at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta.
