Mario A.J. Maraschino, 93, of 554 Franklin County Route 18, Lake Clear, died Saturday, April 7, 2007 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born Dec. 24, 1913 in New York City, he was the son of Ampelio and Irma (Parma) Maraschino. Mario A.J. married Elizabeth  Schmidt on Oct. 29, 1939 in Valley Stream. He had been a full-time resident of Lake Clear for the past nine years. He moved to the area from New York City where he had been employed as a firefighter for the New York City Fire Department for 35 years until his retirement and had reached the rank of lieutenant. He had been visiting Saranac Lake since 1940. Mr. Maraschino was a founding member of the New York Rifle and Pistol Association. He is survived by his wife of 67 years and a son Mario John Maraschino of Houston. He was predeceased by his parents. Calling hours will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 11 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A funeral service will follow at the funeral home with the Rev. Doris M. Proulx, 81, of Tupper Lake, left this life Saturday April 7, 2007 surrounded by her loving family to be with her three sons in heaven. Born Dec. 12, 1926 in Plattsburgh, she was the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Garrett. She was raised and attended local schools in Plattsburgh. She married Rolland “Tapsy” Proulx of Tupper Lake on May 28, 1949 and called Tupper Lake her home. In her earlier years, she worked at Pal Blade in Plattsburgh of which she had many fond memories. She was a devoted wife and mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Doris enjoyed gardening and flowers and had a green thumb to go with it. She is survived by her husband of 58 years; her son Thomas Proulx and daughter-in-law Connie of Tupper Lake, her daughter Cathy Staves and son-in-law Marc of Tupper Lake; she will be deeply missed by her four grandchildren: Eric Proulx, Stacey Proulx, Christina (Staves) Hoffnagle and Nicole Staves; her great-grandchildren: Skyler, Kerstin,  Taylor and Madison; a stepbrother Arthur LaSalle of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sons: Rolland Jr., Cordell and Steven; two brothers: Edward and Thomas Garrett; her stepbrother Francis LaSalle; her sister Margaret Garrett; and a very good friend and loving sister in-law Beverley Garrett. Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, April 13 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 14 at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake. Burial services will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery.

Emma I. Donaldson, 93, of 641 Howes Road, Moretown, Vt., died Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at the Woodridge Nursing Home in Berlin, Vt. Born on Feb. 14, 1914 in Chateaugay, she was the daughter of Edward A. Perks and Persis E. (Stanley) Perks. She was brought up by Harry and Esther (Perks) Rex, her aunt and uncle, after her mom died in 1915. She spent most of her lifetime in Lake Clear and Saranac Lake, and three years in Vermont. She married Adrian A. Donaldson on Oct. 26, 1935 in Saranac Lake. She then became a housewife and mother to their five children. She is survived by two daughters: Beverly J. and Robert Bruce of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Carol A. and Brian S. Howes of Moretown, Vt.; three sons: Roger A. Donaldson and his companion Marion Callahan, Richard A. and Aleitha R. Donaldson, Robert A. and Deborah J. Donaldson, all of Lake Clear;19 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years on Dec. 10, 1996; her parents; her aunt Esther and uncle Harry (a.k.a. Mom and Dad Rex); two brothers: Charles F. and Clayton E. Perks; and three sisters: Clara Marshall, Hazel Darrah and Louise Cosgriff. The family would like to thank the staff at Woodridge Nursing Home, especially everyone on the Evergreen Unit, for the care they gave to her while she was a resident there. Also thank you to Dr. Karen Endacott and Dr. Timothy Wargo for their care. Calling hours are set to take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, April 10 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Mary Delores Kaltenbach, 89, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2007 at Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. Born in Buffalo June 19, 1917, she was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Elizabeth (Murphy) Myers. Mrs. Kaltenbach was a graduate of Buffalo State College in Buffalo. She was the wife of Sherwood W. “Woodie” Kaltenbach. Mary was an active member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lake Placid for many years. She spent many years in community activities, having served on the Board of Directors at Lake Placid Hospital, having been elected to the Lake Placid Chamber of Commerce and having been a member of the Garden Club of Lake Placid where she served as an officer, secretary and editor of the Garden Club Newsletter. Mrs. Kaltenbach was owner and operator of the Lake Placid Travel Center from 1958 until her retirement. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, and the community. Mary is survived by three children: Susan Hough and her husband Ernest Hough III of Lake Placid, Richard W. Kaltenbach of Lake Placid and Gary P. Kaltenbach and his wife Audrey of Keene; one brother, Jim of Fort Myers, Fla.; three grandsons: Ernest Hough IV, Trevor Hough and Jamie Kaltenbach; two granddaughters: Sarah Kaltenbach and Hannah Kaltenbach; one great-granddaughter, Pearl Susan Hough; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was predeceased by her husband on November 30, 2000; three sisters: Evelyn, Grace and Lillian; and three brothers: Edwin, John and Tom. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 9 at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The Rev. Patrick O’Reilly will officiate. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lake Placid Volunteer Ambulance Service or St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Beverly Brophy, 75, of Saranac Lake, died Thursday, April 5, 2007 at the Uihlein Mercy Center Nursing Home in Lake Placid. Born Aug. 5, 1932 in Saranac Lake, she was the daughter of Bill and Daisy (Mace) Tyler. Mrs. Brophy is survived by her husband James of 50 years of Saranac Lake; four children: Peter Brophy of Toronto, Canada, Mary Schramm of Concord,  Calif., Paul Brophy of Londonderry, N.H. and Mark Brophy of Nashua, N.H.; and one grandson. She was predeceased by her parents; her son Thomas Brophy; her sister Gail Carlin; and her brother Terry Tyler. Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 8 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Bible vigil service will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11:15 a.m. Monday April 9 at St. Bernard’s Church with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Tuesday April 10 in the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale.

Ruth P. Clark, 79, formerly of Saranac Lake, died Saturday, March 31, 2007 at the Highland Nursing Home in Massena. Born Sept. 2, 1927 in Lake Clear, she was the daughter of Franklin and Ethel (Donaldson) Powers. She married Ernest Clark and after his death, later married William Davis. Mrs. Clark worked as a chambermaid and cook at several private camps in the area including the Bedford camp. She also had worked as a sales clerk for Montgomery Ward in Saranac Lake for 15 years. Mrs. Clark was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary for more than 40 years and enjoyed fishing, camping and the outdoors. She is survived by one son, Ronald Clark and his wife Karen, of Constable; two daughters: Nancy McCarthy and her husband Chris of Lake Clear and Laura Dyer and her husband Edwin of Bloomingdale; two sisters: Patricia Knapp and Gertrude Lintner, both of Saranac Lake; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her first husband in 1985; her second husband William in 2002; and two brothers: Robert and Donald Powers. Following cremation, a memorial service and interment will take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Mary Alice Fitzgerald, 82, formerly of 20 Church St. Saranac Lake, died Friday, March 30, 2007 at the Uihlein Mercy Center Nursing Home in Lake Placid. Born May 30, 1924 in Massena, she was the daughter of Henry and Alice (Lavare) Lalonde. She married Thomas Fitzgerald. Mrs. Fitzgerald was employed at the Saranac Lake Federal Savings and Loan and continued to work there when it changed to Adirondack Bank for more than 35 years until her retirement. Mary was a member of the Saranac Lake Ladies of the Elk Lodge No. 1508 and a member of the Saranac Lake Adult Center. She also served as a volunteer for the library at St. Bernard’s School and St. Bernard’s Church. She is survived by one son Jack Fitzgerald and his wife Kim of Lake Clear; four grandchildren: Brent Fitzgerald and his wife Amanda of Lake Clear, Kimberly  Taylor and her husband Corey of Lake Clear, John Fitzgerald of Massena and Tom Fitzgerald of Massena; one brother Charles Lalonde of Horsehead; one niece; and five grandchildren: Brooke, Trent, Tristin, Jenna and Cole. She was predeceased by her husband July 8, 1968. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 3 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A prayer service will follow at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Patrick O’Reilly officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery in Lake Clear in May. Joseph R Stoorza, 89, of Bloomingdale, died Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake surrounded by his family. Born Aug. 4, 1917 in Mount Kisco, he was the son of the late Joseph and Lena Stoorza. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and was a member of the 208th Combat Engineer Battalion in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany during World War II. On April 4, 1948, he married Ruth Reynolds in Mount Kisco. He was retired from IBM in Fishkill and worked for the company as an electrician. Joseph was a member of the American Legion Post in Highland, exempt member of the Union Hook and Ladder of Mount Kisco, National Veteran of Foreign Wars and the Surfside United Methodist Church in Surfside Beach, S.C. He is survived by his sons: Dan and his wife Debbie of Saranac Lake and Rich and his wife Fran of Surfside Beach, S.C.; his grandchildren: Ryan and his wife Keri of Berwick, Maine, Tad of Crested Butte,  Colo., Eric of New Zealand, Keegan of Saranac Lake and Becky Sorensen and her husband Bob of Surfside Beach, S.C.; a sister Anna of Hemet,  Calif.; a brother Edward of Grand Island: his nephews: Robert Hahne (Jackie) of Gabriels, James Hahne of Oregon, and John Stoorza (Lois) of Grand Island; and his nieces: Holly Hahne-Shuchart of Reisterstown, Md., Anne Feldman of Mount Kisco and Bea Lana (William) of Nashua, N.H. He was predeceased by his wife Dec. 31, 1997. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Mount Kisco. Cremation and services to the family are entrusted to the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Evelyn Ann (Webster) Sneden, 76, beloved wife of Joseph William “Bill” Sneden of Saranac Lake, went home to be with our Lord on Monday, March 19, 2007, after a brief battle with cancer. Born Feb. 4, 1931 in Latham, she was the daughter of Anna (Hansen) and William H. Webster, Sr. Evelyn graduated from the Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing with her RN in 1950 and worked at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. She was married on June 17, 1951 in Latham and later relocated to the Binghamton area where she lived for many years. She worked as a nursing supervisor for the Susquehanna Nursing Home in  Johnson City. Retirement brought her and her husband to Saranac Lake to live in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, where the couple had enjoyed many previous summer family vacations. She is survived by her loving husband; three daughters: Dr. Christine S. Fox and her husband Stephen of Camarillo,  Calif., Susan E. Neale and her husband Michael of Ray Brook., Laura E. Carne and her husband William of Apalachin; five grandchildren: Jason A. Deyo of Los Angeles, James R. Neal of Ray Brook, Erica L. Carne of Vestal, Courtney A. Carne of Apalachin, and William D. Carne of Apalachin; a brother-in-law, R. Leland Sneden, Monsey; two nieces: Kathryn W. Eaton and her husband David of Latham, Barbara Jennings and her husband Al of Sterling Hts., Minn.; five nephews: Roger J. Webster of New York City, Kenneth D. Webster, III, of Toledo, Ohio, Ralph Webster of Fontata,  Calif., Dana H. Webster of Wrightstown, N.J. and Martin J. Webster of Brockport, and many great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; three brothers: Robert L.Webster of Latham, William H. Webster, Jr. of Latham, retired Col. Kenneth D. Webster of Tampa, Fla.; and a nephew, retired Sr. Mstr. Sgt. Robert E. Webster and his wife Helen of Peru, N.Y. At her request, there will be no services. Donations to the American Cancer Society or Hospice would be appreciated. And to continue her love of animals, donations to the ASPCA or the Humane Society would also be appropriate. She will always live in our hearts.

Charlotte E. Peets, 68, of Tupper Lake, passed away Saturday, March 17, 2007 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake following a brief illness. Born July 18, 1938 in Tupper Lake, she was the daughter of Harry and Lena (Trudeau) Charland. Charlotte attended local schools and graduated from Holy Ghost Academy class of 1956. She married Ben Peets on On Oct. 11, 1958 at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake. She then moved with her husband and accompanied him during his military career. They retired in 1999 and returned to Tupper Lake. Mrs. Peets volunteered her time at Mercy Healthcare Center and the Adirondack Adult Center. She is survived by her husband Ben of 50 years; one son Thomas and his wife Katrin of Minneapolis, Minn.; two daughters: Lorrie Roff and her husband Mike of Champlin, Minn. and Denise Deyo of Plymouth, Minn.; grandchildren: Ben and Jakob Peets, Alishia and Sean Roff and Matthew Deyo; and two brothers: Paul and Herman Charland of Tupper Lake. She was predeceased by her parents. Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday March 19 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 20 at St. Alphonsus Church in Tupper Lake. Muriel L. “Cindy” Grady, 53, of Greenwood Street in Lake Placid died suddenly Thursday, May 3, 2007 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid. Born April 23, 1954 in Lake Placid, she was the daughter of Robert and Muriel (Kennedy) Grady. Cindy was a graduate of Lake Placid High School, class of 1972, and had worked in Lake Placid at locations including, the Mirror Lake Inn, Goldberry’s and the Lake Placid Resort Golf Hose as the driving range manager. Cindy is survived by two brothers: Gary Grady and his wife Mary of Wilmington and Mike Grady and his wife Joan of Lake Placid; her close companion and best friend Brian Halpenny of Lake Placid; four nephews: Colin Grady, Ryan Grady and Cade Grady of Lake Placid and Cameron Grady and his wife Jessie of Wilmington; a niece, Carrie Grady Wardlaw of Park City, Utah; three great-nephews: Carter and Cooper Grady of Wilmington and Wyatt Wardlaw of Park City, Utah; and one great-niece Saylor Grady of Wilmington. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday May7 at the M.B. Clark Funeral Funeral Home in Lake Placid. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Rebecca Merrill-LaDue, 40, of Tupper Lake and formerly of Lake Placid died Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born July 1, 1966 in Lake Placid, she was the daughter of Richard Merrill and Nancy Sears-Marmion. Following her education at Lake Placid Central School and North Country Community College, she started her own business, Country Comforts Cleaning and Caretaking. Becky later got her real estate brokers license and became owner and proprietor of Country Comforts Real Estate in Tupper Lake. Most recently, she was employed by Sunmount. Becky’s hobbies included being with her children, player her guitar, listening to Janis Joplin, gardening and spending the day on her boat. She always lit up a room and had a wonderful sense of humor. Becky was loved by everyone who knew her and will be greatly missed by all. Becky is survived by her three children: Jamie, Kyle and Kristen, all of Tupper Lake; three sisters: Barbara Rosser of Charlotte, N.C., Stephanie Whitelaw and her husband Ken of Lake Placid and Nancy Reed and her husband Brian of Wilmington; three brothers: Michael Merrill and Bill Marmion, both of Melissa,  Texas and Daniel Merrill of New Jersey; her grandfather Frank Sears Sr. of Lake Placid; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and a very good friend, Kelly Miner of Lake Placid. Becky was predeceased by her parents and her grandmother Betty Sears. Calling hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 4 at the Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid. Virginia Alice Lincoln Klugerman, 84, died Monday, April 30, 2007 at the Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid. Born July 21, 1922 in New York City, she was the daughter of Clarence and Josephine (Wands) Lincoln. Mrs. Klugerman was a resident of Uihlein Mercy Center since 1999. Prior to that she had been employed as a medical secretary for Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River for more than 25 years until her retirement in 1987. Mrs. Klugerman was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and is a distant relative of former President Abraham Lincoln. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Joseph Klugerrman of Las Vegas, Nev.; one daughter Joyce Long and her husband Edward of Saranac Lake, one granddaughter Robin Chaize of Chicago, Ill; one grandson Bob Chaize, Jr. of Jacksonville Beach, Fla.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents. A private family service will take place at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Paulann Andrews, 75, of 7 Riverside Dr., Saranac Lake, died Monday, April 30, 2007 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born May 7, 1931 in Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of Paul and Anna (Muir) Andrews. Paulann graduated from Catholic Central High in Troy and later graduated from St. Rose in Albany and earned her master’s degree from Columbia University. Paulann was employed as a registered nurse and had last been employed as a state health inspector for the state of Michigan, and inspected nursing homes until her retirement in 2000. She was a volunteer at Pendragon Theatre, St. Bernard’s School, was a member of the Saranac Lake Kiwanis Club, Saranac Lake Women’s Civic Chamber and the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard. She is survived by a cousin, Milford Woodbeck and many close friends. She was predeceased by her parents. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday May 4 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake, with the Rev. Thomas Kornmeyer officiating. Burial will follow Friday afternoon in Holy Cross Cemetery in Mallets Bay, Vt. John D. “Jack” Barry, 83, died Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at the Adirondack Medical Center after a long illness. Born Aug. 25, 1923 in Lake Placid, he was the son of William and Harriet Haskins Barry. He attended Lake Placid schools and graduated in 1942, and received the alumni award at graduation. Jack then entered the U.S. Army, earned the rank of corporal and served in the European Theatre in World War II, including the battle of the Rhine. On July 2, 1943, Jack married Kathryn B. Sears at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Barry devoted his life to making Lake Placid a better place, and over a lifetime of community service, he was den master of the local boy scouts, a founder and past president of the Lake Placid Pee Wee Association, helped develop and maintain the American Legion Post 326’s drum and bugle corps, volunteered with the Sons of the American Legion color guard and as a Lake Placid Ski Club volunteer. He was also a member of the American Legion, the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. He was a founding member of the 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Organizing Committee and served as assistant ice hockey chairman. He also oversaw the workings of the 1980 Olympic tournament. He was a member of the village board for 31 years, having served as a trustee, deputy mayor and commissioner of most village departments. He was instrumental in the refurbishment of Mill Pond and its dam, and was also key in rebuilding the McKinley Street and Hillcrest Avenue playgrounds as well as the village beach. Barry was inducted into the Lake Placid Hall of Fame in 1993. He is survived by his wife; two daughters: Brenda D. Moscatello and her husband James of Lake Placid and Debra K. Dukett and husband Peter of Saranac Lake; a brother William Barry; a sister, Veronica “Bonnie” Miner; 12 grandchildren: Tracy Barry, Marjorie Hough, Bruce Barry Jr., Mark Barry, Daniel Barry, Emily Barry, Elizabeth Barry, Juliana Ogden, Kristen Armstrong, James Moscatello, Callie Dukett and John Dukett; six great-grandchildren: Kierrina, Cameron, Cody, Hannah, Isabella and Jack; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday May 3 at the M.B. Clark Funeral Home in Lake Placid with an American Legion prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and a Bible vigil service at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, May 4 at St. Agnes Church in Lake Placid. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
