Beatrice Patterson

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Beatrice Cook Patterson, 95, formerly of Schenevus, died Monday, June 26, 2000, at Bassett Healthcare.

Mrs. Patterson was born May 13, 1905, in Hartwick, a daughter of John and Anna May (Tompson) Cook.

Beatrice was educated in the Cooperstown school system and married Robert Patterson, who predeceased her.

She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Lmae Keating of Weymouth, Mass.; and a niece, Mrs. Joan Santeusanio of North Reading, Mass.

A private service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Ivan J. Taylor

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Ivan "Bill" J. Taylor, 86, of Zephyrhills, Fla., formerly of Otego, N.Y., died May 18, 2000, at his home in Zephyrhills, Fla.

He was born Sept. 11, 1913, in Otego, N.Y., the son of William and Ethel (Secor) Taylor.

On May 12, 1940, he married Esther Schomo in Oneonta, N.Y.

Bill was a mechanic for the Otego school system.

Bill graduated from Otego School and was the valedictorian of his class.

He had a love for baseball, playing in school and playing for the Otego Town Team for 17 years as the pitcher. He was offered a position with the New York Yankees farm team, turning it down to work driving a truck for Munson's.

He was a volunteer fireman for Otego and was one of the founders of the Otego Fire Rescue Squad. He was also a past master of the Otego Masons.

He loved spending time with his loving family.

Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor and his crooked smile. He will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his loving wife, Esther  Taylor of Zephyrhills, Fla.; his son, Ted  Taylor of Afton; his daughter, Claudia Woodard of Bradenton, Fla.; his sister, Norma Wood Vitch of Elizabethton, Tenn.; and his grandson, Rodney Earl of Guilford.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, July 3, 2000, at 10 a.m. at the Otego Evergreen Cemetery, Otego, with the Rev. Donna Joy Schmid officiating.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Otego.

Helen P. Truscott

ALBANY — Helen P. Truscott passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2000, at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, following a long illness.

She was born Sept. 20, 1909, in Meridale, the daughter or LeRoy Palmer and Effie (Wilson) Palmer.

Helen was a 1926 graduate of the Delaware Academy in Delhi, and attended business school in Binghamton.

She had resided in Oneonta since that time, until she went to live with her son in Albany in 1996.

During World War II, Helen was a defense worker at the Scintilla Corp. in Sidney for most of the war. She retired in 1977 after many years as a secretary and administrative assistant in the art department in the State University College at Oneonta.

Helen was well known for her love of music and the practice of her religious faith. She had played the piano from age 6 until her health prevented her from playing within the past two years. She had been a church organist many years ago.

Helen is survived by her two sons, David W. Truscott of Delhi and Timothy C. Truscott of Albany; and by three grandchildren.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Charles E. Truscott, in 1984.

At Helen's request, her body was cremated at the Albany Rural Cemetery Crematory.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are by the Tebbutt Funeral Home of Albany.

Carroll Bussey Jr.

DE KALB — Carroll (Nick) Bussey Jr., age 57, of 424 Winter Road, town of DeKalb, and also of 137 Felske Dr., Bainbridge, died early Friday morning, June 30, 2000, after a long illness.

Arrangements are with Frary Funeral Home in Ogdensburg. Funeral services will be private.

Mr. Bussey is survived by his wife, Janet; one brother, Ronald of Daytona Beach, Fla.; one goddaughter, Mrs. Dyan Pcolar of Crary Mills; one godson, Todd Phillips of Ogdensburg; two special friends, Harold and Faye Phillips of Rensselaer Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born Feb. 10, 1943, in Sidney, the son of Carroll Sr., and Edna (Reynolds) Bussey. He graduated from Pearl River High School and married Janet (Clukey) on June 7, 1969, in Orangeburg. He served in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1966.

Mr. Bussey was employed in the shipping and supply warehouse of Amphenol Corp. in Sidney for 27 years.

He was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors.

Mr. and Mrs. Bussey spent their vacations at their home on the Winter Road for the past few years.

Donations may be made to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.

Ralph M. Roland

SCHENEVUS — Ralph M. Roland, 73, of Schenevus, died Friday, June 30, 2000, in an accident while hauling firewood on Dog Hill Road in Maryland.

He was born Oct. 18, 1926, the son of the late Mayo A. and Alice E. (Green) Roland of Schenevus.

He married Cecelia M. Gearon on Dec. 12, 1950, in Deposit.

Ralph was born and raised in Schenevus. He was a graduate of the Schenevus High School and received a bachelor's degree in forestry from the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University,

Ralph was a veteran in training when World War II ended, and then returned to New York state. He and his family lived in Niskayuna from 1967 to 1986. Ralph worked for the New York State Department of Transportation in Albany for 37 years.

Upon his retirement, he returned to Schenevus and built a home.

He was elected town of Maryland supervisor five times and served the town for 10 years.

In retirement, he was a well-known antiques dealer and spent most of his time in the outdoors.

He was a dedicated turkey and deer hunter.

Ralph is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cecelia "Rusty" Roland, and his six children and three grandchildren: Richard Roland and his wife, Faith, of Seattle, Wash.; Kathleen Lowery and her husband, Mark, of St. Louis, Mo.; Paddi Leshane and her husband, Patrick Sullivan, of Hartford, Conn., and their two sons, Michael and Daniel; Scott Roland of Maryland; Craig Roland and his son, Taylor, of Atlanta, Ga.; and Barbara Roland-Milano and her husband, Jon Milano of Niskayuna.

He is also survived by his sister, Dr. Ruth Roland of Baltimore, Md.; and his goddaughter, Linda Hurley of Oneonta, the daughter of Dorothy Beams and her late husband, Fred Beams, of Schenevus.

Calling hours will be Monday, July 3, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the Schenevus United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Alan Griffith, pastor of the United Methodist churches in Hyndsville and Mineral Springs, officiating.

Burial will follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 105 Co. Hwy. 34, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155, would be appreciated.

Funeral arrangements are by Heller Funeral Home, 10 Arch S., Schenevus.

John A. Schrom

RICHMONDVILLE — John A. Schrom, 79, died Saturday, June 30, 2000.

He was a World War II veteran in the Army Air Force as a Flying Tiger. He had various jobs as a farmer, logger and carpenter in the Richmondville and Cobleskill areas.

He is survived by a sister, Carrie Kereggarto of Torrington, Conn., and a brother, Daniel Schrom of Maryland.

He is also survived by a nephew, Roger Barner, of Richmondville.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements were handled by Cremation Funeral Service of Delmar.

Blanche E. Haack

EDMESTON — Blanche E. Haack, 78, of Edmeston, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, in Rutland, Vt., with her family by her side.

She was born Oct. 25, 1921 in Lyndhurst, N.J., the daughter of Walter and Genevieve Sopczak.

She married Joseph A. Haack in Nutley, N.J. He predeceased her in 1982.

Blanche is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and John Ashback; three brothers; six sisters and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by one brother, Stanley; and one sister Theresa.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2000, at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Nativity, Edmeston, with Father Burns officiating.

Burial will follow at Edmeston Union Cemetery.

Calling hours are Thursday, July 6, 2000, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, 30 South St., Edmeston.

Arrangements are by Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Catherine A. Kinch

PITTSFIELD — Catherine A. Kinch, 45, of Pittsfield, died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at Pittsfield.

She was born Jan. 11, 1955, in Rockville Center, to Richard and Eleanor (Manning) Roche. Her childhood was spent on Long Island.

She married Kenneth R. Kinch on May 24, 1980. She was a homemaker.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Cait Kinch of New Berlin; a sister, Margaret McConnell of Columbus; two brothers, Christopher Roche of Columbus and Lawrence Roche of Mississippi; and her mother, Eleanor Roche.

She was predeceased by a brother, Richard.

She was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, New Berlin.

The funeral will be Thursday, July 6, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin, with Father Francis Case, of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Columbus Corners Cemetery, town of Columbus.

Friends may call Wednesday, July 5, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dakin Funeral Home, New Berlin.

Memorial donations may be made to the Otsego County Hospice, Oneonta, or the Pittsfield Emergency Squad.

Katherine Laraway

SIDNEY — Katherine "Kay" Laraway, 80, a resident of the A.O. Fox Hospital Nursing Home, Oneonta, and formerly of Sidney, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2000, in Oneonta.

She was born Jan. 4,1920, in the town of Guilford, the daughter of Lewis and Eva (Harding) Joyce.

She was a well-known chef in the Tri-Town area. She retired from the Mason Inn, Masonville. Before that she had worked in the Hotel DeCumber and the Victory Restaurant, both in Sidney.

Kay was a member of the United Methodist Church, Sidney.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Carol Gelo, Bainbridge and Linda and Gary Scott of Sidney; a brother, Thomas Joyce of Oneonta; six grandchildren, Dawn Bergman of Deposit, Ronald and Michael Spencer of Walton, Debra Gelo of Branford, Conn., Corey Bebarta of Denver,  Colo., and Christopher Scott of  Washington, D.C.; six great-grandchildren; a niece; two nephews and a cousin.

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Friends are invited to call at their convenience Wednesday at the funeral chapel. The family will be attendance from 6 p.m. until time of the service at 8 p.m.

Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to the Sidney Emergency Squad.

Anna Burns

MORRIS — Anna Wohlfahrt Burns, 85, of Morris and formerly of South Kortright and Albany, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at the residence of her son, the Rev. John R. Burns.

She was born Aug. 21, 1914, in Mannheim, Germany, the daughter of Johann Anton Wohlfahrt and Susanna (Probst) Wohlfahrt.

She was married to Robert Joseph Burns Sr., on June 4, 1938, at St. Joseph's Church in Albany. He died several years ago.

She was a homemaker and housekeeper and had resided in Morris for the past nine months.

She was a member of the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church of Morris.

She is survived by two sons, the Rev. John Robert Burns of Morris and Robert Joseph Burns, Jr., and his wife, Agatha, of Canada Lake, a sister, Susie Lehr of Germany; a half sister, Erika Ruth Walker and her husband, Harold, of Syracuse; a brother, John Anton Wohlfahrt and his wife, Emma, of Queensbury; a grandson, Robert Anthony Burns and his wife, Kristen, of East Greenbush; a great-granddaughter, Madison Rose Burn, of East Greenbush; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, July 3, 2000, at 9:30 a.m. at the Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church in Morris, with the Rev. John R. Burns officiating.

Committal services and burial will follow in the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna at 2 p.m. Monday.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home, Morris.

Pearl L. Hyers

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Pearl Lincoln Hyers, 90, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, in a Manchester, N.H., nursing home.

Born in East Worcester, on Aug. 12, 1909, she was the daughter of Thomas and Josephine Lincoln. She lived most her life in New Jersey.

She was married to Raymond Hyers, who died in 1967.

Family members include a son, Donald Hyers of Candia, N.H.; two grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a niece; nephews; and cousins.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brooklyn.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Bible Society, 1865 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10025.

Funeral arrangements were by the Maiden Petrin Funeral Home, Candia, N.H.
