Matthew Dennis

SCHUYLER LAKE — Matthew Paul Dennis, 31, of Schuyler Lake and the Cooperstown area, died early Tuesday morning, July 4, 2000, due to injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born on July 19, 1968, in Herkimer, a son of' Robert James and Madeline (Bose) Dennis.

Matt attended Owen D. Young Central School in Van Hornesville and Cooperstown Central School.

In December of 1984 he married Tammy Whiteman of Schuyler Lake. Throughout his life he was employed in various occupations but especially enjoyed driving 18-wheelers.

Most recently he had been employed by Pat Petkewec and was currently driving for  Jones Motors of Ohio.

He enjoyed four-wheel-drive truck racing and was an avid outdoorsman. He was especially fond of deer hunting and fishing.

Matt is survived by his wife, Tammy of Schuyler Lake; two daughters, Leanne and Stephany Dennis; two sons, Justin and Timothy Dennis, all of Schuyler Lake; his mother, Madeline Dennis of Westville; his father, Robert James Dennis of Dolgeville; his maternal grandmother, Catherine Bose of' Westville; two sisters, Cindy Wall and her husband, Dale, of Ames and Cathy Dennis of Cooperstown; three brothers, Bob Dennis and his wife, Barbara, of St. Johnsville, Tom Dennis of Westville and Chris Dennis and his companion, Deb Kilts, of Hartwick; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown with Nancy Kozlowski, pastor of the Westville United Methodist Church, officiating. A private burial will take place in the Westville Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 p.m. until service time when Matt's family will be in attendance,

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to a fund to be established for the education of Matt's children, c/o Madeline Dennis, 1486 County Highway 42, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155.

Donald S. Hoke

SOUTH VALLEY — Donald Sherburne Hoke, 86, passed away Monday, July 3, 2000, at Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

He was born Dec. 24, 1913, in Albion, the son of Arthur Leigh and Ruth (Sherburne) Hoke.

He married Mary Eliza Barnes on June 8, 1936, in Pleasant Brook. She survives.

Mr. Hoke attended schools at South Valley, Cherry Valley, Grand Gorge, Cassadaga and New Berlin. He resided in West Edmeston and South Valley.

He was a member of the Methodist Church, Roseboom Grange, and was in the C.C.C. from Nov. 3, 1933, to April 3, 1934, at Camp Dix, N.J.

Mr. Hoke worked as a truck driver for I.T. and C.A. Welch, was an independent milk hauler and worked for Ace Glove Shop from 1970 until retiring in 1983.

He owned a small dairy farm and was an avid gardener,

Since 1996 he has resided at the home of Debbie (his daughter) and Charles Brodie in South Valley.

Besides his wife, Mary Eliza Hoke of the Meadows, Cooperstown, he is survived by one son, Dennis, and his wife, Joan Hoke, of Pleasant Brook; four daughters, Phyllis and her husband, Doug VanDewerker, of Westford and Jean Winkler, Debra and her husband, Charles Brodie, and Victoria and her husband, Chip Myers, all of South Valley; a sister, Marjorie and her husband, Morris Brigham, of Cherry Valley; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; several sisters- and brothers-in-law; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by four brothers, Elwyn, Richard, Russell, and Gordon; and three sisters, Virginia, Joyce and Mildred.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Keith Van Dewerker of Oneonta and the Rev. Robert Finch of Medford, N.J., officiating.

Burial will follow in the South Valley Cemetery, South Valley.

Calling hours will take place on Thursday, July 6, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Contributions in Mr. Hoke's memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Harry G. Fisher

CLIFTON PARK — Harry G. "Bud" Fisher, 77, beloved husband of Elizabeth Farrell Fisher for 54 years, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, at his residence with his loving family at his side,

He was born and educated in Oneonta, the son of the late Harry J. and Leona Alger Fisher.

Mr. Fisher was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving in England during World War II .

He worked for the Reliance Insurance Co. in Albany for more than 20 years serving as claims manager and manager. He retired from the Farmers Fire Insurance Co. of York, Pa. in 1982 after five years as a field representative.

Bud was a charter member of the Colonie Elks Lodge #2192 where he served as the chairman of the building committee and was instrumental in the construction of the new lodge built in 1970. He served the Colonie Elks Lodge as a trustee for many years and was a charter member of the Elks golf league.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing poker with friends, visiting casinos and traveling with his wife, Liz.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include his loving children Constance and Robert S. Welton of East Greenbush and Harry G. and Noree Fisher of Valdosta, Ga.; his cherished grandchildren Robert E. Welton and Scott and Kelly T. Welton of East Greenbush, Elizabeth M. Fisher of Clifton Park and Jonathan Farrell-Fisher of Valdosta, Ga.; and his great-granddaughter, Celia Lane Welton of East Greenbush. He was the brother of Ann and Ralph Leach of Oneonta and Leda and Henry Eaton of Carthage, N.C.; and is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday, July 6, 2000, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dufresne & Cavanaugh Funeral Home, 149 Old Loudon Rd., Latham. The Colonie Elks Lodge #2192 officers will perform their wake service at 7 p.m.

Contributions to the Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence St., Saratoga Springs, N.Y. 12866 would be appreciated.

Nan Lounsbury

CLINTON — Nan Rae McRorie Lounsbury, 53, of Clinton, died early Monday morning, July 3, 2000, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital in Utica.

She was born on June 24, 1947, in Cooperstown, a daughter of Raymond F. and Nancy (Pink) McRorie.

Nan was raised in the Cooperstown area and graduated from Cooperstown Central School with the Class of 1965. She then attended and graduated from the Mildred Elley Secretarial School in Albany.

Throughout her life she was employed in various occupations but most especially enjoyed working as a Nurse's Aide at Albany Medical Center.

She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Nancy J. McRorie of Fly Creek; a brother, R. David McRorie and his wife, Shirley, of Houston, Tex., and her uncle, Ralph Pink of Cooperstown and his son, Jon Pink of Albany.

She was predeceased by her father, Raymond, who died Sept. 2, 1992.

A private graveside service and burial will be held at the convenience of the family at the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Eileen Cornwell, pastor of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, officiating.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Bea VanSteenburgh

CLIFTON PARK — Bea VanSteenburgh, 90, formerly of Iroquois Drive, Saratoga Springs, died Friday, June 30, 2000, at Schuyler Ridge in Clifton Park.

She was born in Ballston Spa, Dec. 29, 1909, the daughter of Harry and Amelia VanSteenburgh.

She was a 1927 graduate of Ballston Spa High School and earned a teaching degree in 1931 and master's degree in 1947 from the State University at Albany.

She taught math at Cooperstown Central School from 1931 to 1966 when she retired and moved to Saratoga Springs.

She was predeceased by her parents Amelia and Harry VanSteenburgh; her lifelong companion Kathryn Lee; and her sisters Dorothy Williams and Freida Burgess.

Survivors include three nieces, Kathryn Mattison of Burlington, Vt., Ann Barker of Bennington, Vt., and Eileen Burgess of Ballston Spa, along with a great-niece, great-nephews and great-great-nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 6, 2000, at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High St., Ballston Spa.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ballston Spa.

A calling hour will precede the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in Bea's memory to Schuyler Ridge RHF Activities Program, c/o Administrative Assistant Danielle Winnie, 1 Abele Blvd., Clifton Park, N.Y. 12065

Leah McMorris

LOCKPORT — Leah McMorris passed away Thursday, June 29, 2000.

She was born on Nov. 12, 1906, in the town of Worcester, the daughter of LeRoy and Winifred (Smith) Wright.

She graduated from East Worcester High School in 1923 and was a member of the East Worcester Methodist Church.

She married Vernon McMorris on Jan. 26, 1924. He died in 1976.

Mrs. McMorris lived in Otsego County until 1973, when she and her husband moved to Wellsville. She moved to Lockport in 1979. She taught sewing in adult education in East Worcester and was interested in many crafts. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, the Deborah Circle and the Cornell Cooperative Extension Service.

Mrs. McMorris is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Leslie Robert and Jean of Wellsville, and Ronald John and Jean of Lockport; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law; one niece and two nephews.

She was predeceased by her sister, Doris Baldwin.

A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family at a date to be announced.

Prudden & Kandt Funeral Home of Lockport are handling the arrangements.

Olga Hendrick

SIDNEY — Mrs. Olga Hendrick, 80, a resident at the Methodist Manor Nursing Home, Branchville, N.J., and formerly of 38 Edgewood Drive, Sidney, passed away peacefully Monday evening July 3, 2000, in New Jersey.

She was born April 2, 1920, in Plains, Pa., the daughter of the late Anthony and Mary Hotz Orischak.

She married Joseph Hendrick in Wilkes Barre, Pa., on Jan. 26, 1946. He died on July 19, 1995.

Mrs. Hendrick was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Sidney.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Betsy Hendrick, Randolph, N.J.; three grandsons, William, Daniel and Benjamin Hendrick; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her seven brothers and sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2000, from the Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.

Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday evening, July 6, at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, when her family will be in attendance.

Memorial gifts in her name may be directed to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, River Street, Sidney.

Eva Ferguson

MORRIS — Eva Lenora (Barber) Ferguson, 93, of Morris, died Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin.

She was born March 25, 1907, in Manlius, the daughter of Frank and Ellen (Roscoe) Barber.

She married the late Glenn Ferguson on Aug. 7, 1926. He died July 23, 1991.

She was a housewife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother and was loved dearly. Her greatest joy was to cook and bake for her family. She loved to garden and had a great appreciation of music. She was a member of the Morris Baptist Church for many years.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Paul (Pauline) McQue of Fairport, Mrs. Richard (Rusty) Klotzbach of Spencerport, Mrs. Richard (Evelyn) Sevor of Palmyra, Mrs. Earl (Bernice) Edwards of Macedon and Mrs. Robert. (Judith) Hand of Morris; and one son, Reginald Ferguson of Morris

Twenty-three grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren also survive her.

She was predeceased by two daughters, Elizabeth Harris and Margaret Hanvey; a son, Theodore Ferguson; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Ferguson.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 10, 2000, at 2 p.m. in the Morris Baptist Church in Morris with the Rev. J. Mark Norlund officiating.

Burial will be at the Hillington Cemetery in Morris.

There will be no calling hours and those who wish are asked to contribute to the Catskill Area Hospice in her memory.

Funeral arrangements are by the Johnston Funeral Home of Morris.

Hazel W. Mead

ROSEBOOM — Mrs. Hazel W. Mead, 92, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at the Van Dyne Home in the town of Onondaga.

She was born Feb. 18, 1908, in Dobbs Ferry, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Frederick.

She married William Davis Mead in Dobbs Ferry on Dec. 9, 1927. He died in 1993.

Mrs. Mead was a member of the Roseboom Grange and the Methodist Church in Roseboom.

She is survived by two sons, Glen Mead of Baldwinsville, and Richard Mead of Peconic, Long Island; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 8, 2000, at noon at Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Ron Fralick officiating.

Burial will follow in the South Valley Cemetery, South Valley.

A calling hour will be held beginning at 11 a.m. and ending at service time at the funeral home.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Robert B. Rickard

LAWYERSVILLE — Graveside services for Robert B. Rickard of Gloversville, who died June 8, 2000, will be held Sunday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at the Lawyersville Cemetery.

Karl E. Tauzel

WORCESTER — A committal service for Karl E. Tauzel, 90, of Worcester, who died Feb. 2, 2000, will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July, 8, 2000, at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Worcester, with the Rev. Edward Golding, officiating.

Full military honors will be presented by the Worcester American Legion Post 1584.

Arrangements are by the E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Catherine M. Shaw

DELHI — Catherine M. Shaw, 95, of Delhi, died July 7, 2000, in Delhi.

She was born Sept. 7, 1904, in Bloomville, the daughter of Perry C. and Ida Shaw.

A lifelong area resident, Miss Shaw was an accountant for General Motors Automobile Dealerships for more than 50 years in Delhi and Saranac Lake.

A very dear friend, Doreen Craig of Meridale, survives her.

Services will take place on Monday, July 10, 2000, at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi, with the Rev. Edward McNulty of the Bovina Presbyterian Church officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.
