Raymond G. Green

HAMDEN — Raymond G. Green, 82, of Hamden, died July 13, 2000, at Delaware County Countryside Care, Delhi.

He was born July 19, 1917, in Horseheads, the son of Daniel and Forrest Green.

He married Ruth Kolb on Feb. 11, 1961, in Buffalo.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; a son, Michael Green, of Otego; three daughters, Mary and Chuck Cardillo of Delhi, Ellen and Glen Moore of New Berlin and Patricia Green of San Diego,  Calif.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Mr. Green was a health inspector for Erie County in Buffalo for 22 years, moving to Hamden in 1977. He was a member of St. Peter's Church, Delhi, and the Civil Service Employees' Association.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, July 17, 2000, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Church in Delhi with Father Joseph Manerowski officiating. There will be no calling hours.

Burial will take place in Hamden Cemetery.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Delaware County Countryside Care, Delhi.

Arrangements are with MacArthur Funeral Home, Delhi.

Boyd R. Kaler

ALBANY — Boyd R. Kaler 52, of Nassau, died Friday July 14, 2000, at Albany Memorial Hospital after being stricken at his home.

He was born in Bangor, Maine. He graduated from Mount Upton High School in Mount Upton and Hudson Valley Community College in Troy.

He was a program specialist with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and had worked for the state for 33 years. He also was an avid outdoorsman.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Stark Kaler; a son, George M. Kaler, and his wife, Rebecca, of Brick, N.J.; a sister, Frances Krogstad, of Idaho; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral service will be Monday, July 17, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Gilbertsville Baptist Church in Gilbertsville with a calling hour at the church from noon to 1 p.m.

Relatives and friends may call at the Thomas P. Mooney Funeral Home, 11 Elm St., Nassau, on Sunday, July 16, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Burial will be in Butternut Valley Cemetery in Mount Upton.

Clara E. Ferris

OTEGO — Mrs. Clara E. Ferris, 94, of Otego, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at The Meadows.

She was born April 8, 1906, in Otego, the daughter of Charles S. and Nellie (Starr) Hunt.

Clara was a lifelong resident of Otego. She graduated from Otego High School in 1926, and then graduated from Cobleskill Agriculture and Technology Institute in 1927, with a degree in home economics.

She was a sales clerk at Wilbur's General Store in Otego for 35 years, retiring in 1962.

Clara had been a member of the Otego Presbyterian Church since 1916. She was also a member of the Otego Chapter W.C.T.U. and the Susquehanna-Otego Valley Grange #1417 and held several posts and official offices in all three organizations.

Clara was very devoted to her Lord, Jesus Christ. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and devotion to taking care of others.

She is survived by her cousins, George and Marion Starr of Richfield Springs and Luella Gaylord of East Syracuse; her second cousins, Sandra and Karl Schnitzler of Cazenovia and Kathy and Vito Reese of Fairport; several stepcousins; and many good friends and neighbors.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 19, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Otego, with the Rev. Edwin Lintern, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will follow at the Otego Evergreen Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Otego Presbyterian Church, 16 River St., Otego, N.Y. 13825 in loving memory of Clara E. Ferris.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Otego.

Raymond G. Green

HAMDEN — Raymond G. Green, 82, of Hamden, died July 13, 2000, at Delaware County Countryside Care, Delhi.

Ernest B. Sills

ONEONTA — Ernest B. Sills, 82, of Oneonta and formerly of Stamford, died Sunday, July 16, 2000, in Oneonta.

He was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Port  Jefferson, Long Island, the son of Haight and Addie Sills.

He started his education in Port  Jefferson, Long Island, and completed it in Michigan while in the Army. He was a World War II veteran with the rank of staff sergeant.

He married Lawanda Sells on March 15, 1945, in New York City.

In 1983, Mr. Sills retired from Three Village School district in Stony Brook, Long Island, and moved to Stamford to live with his son and daughter-in-law. He was a folk art painter and wood carver who specialized in sailing ships.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ernie and Pat Sills of Stamford.

He was predeceased by his wife, Lawanda, on Oct. 12, 1998; and his oldest son, Ronald E. Sills, in July 1978.

A private memorial service will take place on Long Island.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Glenna G. Jester

MARGARETVILLE — Glenna Gayle Jester, 58, of Margaretville, died Saturday, July 15, 2000, at Bringham Hospital, Boston, Mass., after complications from having a double lung transplant Feb. 24, 2000.

She was born Sept. 20, 1941, in Margaretville, the daughter of Frank Ackerley and Elizabeth Merchant.

She married Burton (Skip) Jester on June 28, 1969, in Margaretville.

In prior years Glenna worked at the Montgomery Ward Store, Margaretville.

She was a lifelong area resident.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Margaretville. Glenna loved gardening and being an artist. She graduated from Margaretville Central School in 1960.

Glenna is survived by her husband, Skip Jester of Margaretville; two sisters, Shirley DeSilva and Arlene Deegan; one brother, Richard Ackerley; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her brother, Thomas Ackerley; and sister, Ruth Ondish.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 20, 2000, at the Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell as celebrant. Burial will be in the Margaretville Cemetery, Margaretville.

Calling hours will be Wednesday, July 19, 2000, from 2 to 3 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Contributions may be made in memory of Glenna Jester to the Ambulance Fund of the Margaretville Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Robert J. Collier

HAVERHILL, Mass. — Robert J. Collier, 76, died Friday, July 14, 2000, at the Hale Hospital following a long illness.

He was born in Oneonta, N.Y.

He was a loving father and grandfather.

He was an avid Yankee fan and "45" player.

He was a United States Army veteran from 1944-46, serving in Okinawa. While in Okinawa, he coached the Okinawa All-Star Basketball Team, which participated in the Pacific Olympics.

Mr. Collier received a bachelor of science degree from Cortland State Teachers College in 1947. While attending Cortland, he set the school record in the mile. He also received a master's degree in administration from Boston University. Mr. Collier took additional graduate courses at Syracuse University and the University of  South Carolina.

Throughout his 32 years in education, he was known for his dedication and distinctive leadership. His contributions to the educational process focused on effective availability of guidance and special needs service to all students within his reach.

He served as director of health and physical education in Onondaga Central School in Nedrow, N.Y. He taught math in the Andover school system. He also was a guidance counselor for Andover Junior-Senior High School for nine years and coached basketball and baseball there. He was director of guidance at Pentucket Regional School in West Newbury and for the Danbury, Conn., schools, and he was director of student personnel services in Belmont, Mass., until his retirement in 1979. After retiring from Belmont, Mr. Collier began working for Combined Insurance Co. While at Combined Insurance. He worked his way to sales manager where he received five Grand Diamond Awards. He worked until illness forced him to retire this year.

Mr. Collier was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association, the National Education Association, Phi Delta Kappa and the Essex County Retired Teachers Association.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa (Angelotti) Collier; two daughters and their husbands, Constance and Alexander Halks of Andover. Mass., and Kathleen and Stephen Lovell of Bridgewater, Mass.; and one brother, Dr. Richard Collier of Florida. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

His funeral will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. from the Scatamacchia Funeral Home, 358  Washington St. Services will follow in the West Congregational Church, 767 Broadway, Haverhill, at 11 a.m. Burial will be Linwood Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass. 01701.

Hazel M. Lincourt

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Hazel M. Lincourt, 85, of Cooperstown, died early Monday morning, July 17, 2000, at The Meadows.

Hazel was born on March 9, 1915, in Toddsville, a daughter of George and Stella May (Seybolt) Buchanan.

She married Leo G. Lincourt in 1930, in Cooperstown. Mr. Lincourt died on Sept. 24, 1989.

She is survived by one daughter and two sons-in-law, Mary and Orrin (Lou) Mele of Cooperstown and Squire  Taylor Jr. of Del Ray Beach, Fla.; two sons, Robert Lincourt of Hobart and Gene Lincourt of Cooperstown; 18 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and one great-great-grandson.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Mrs. Louella Taylor, who died in February 2000, and two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Helen Lincourt, who died in August 1996, and Mrs. Lucille A. Lincourt, who died in October 1997.

Graveside services and burial will be private in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery, with the Rev. Douglas C. Smith, rector of Christ Church in Cooperstown, officiating.

At the request of the family there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to The Activities Fund, care of The Meadows, 140 County Highway 33W, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

William Fraser Jr.

DELHI — William J. "Tiger" Fraser Jr., 80, of Fraser, in the town of Delhi, died Monday afternoon, July 17, 2000, at Countryside Care Center.

He was born April 3, 1920, at Fraser, the son of William J. and Mabel (Means) Fraser.

A lifelong resident, he was a 1938 graduate of Delaware Academy and received his formal education at Delhi Agricultural and Technical College.

A dairy farmer all of his life, Tiger was a geneticist and breeder of pure-bred Ayrshire cattle.

He was a life member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Ayrshire Breeders' Association.

In later life, he also enjoyed growing roses.

Surviving are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd F. and Beverly Fraser of Oneonta and Harold D. and Alice Fraser of Meridale; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his twin brother, Arthur. who died in infancy.

Friends are invited to call 7 to 9 p.m. this evening when the family will be in attendance at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, by his pastor the Rev. Arvid Whitmore. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, or the "Life Line" Project, Delaware County Office for the Aging, Delhi.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Margaret T. Brown

COOPERSTOWN — Mrs. Margaret T. Brown, 99, formerly of Leatherstocking Street and Brunlar Court, Cooperstown, died late Saturday evening, July 15, 2000, at The Meadows.

Margaret was born on Feb. 5, 1901, in Dauphin, Pa., a daughter of George R. and Agnes (Kinter) Talley.

Raised in Rahway, N.J., she graduated from Rahway High School with the Class of 1918. In 1922, she received a bachelor of arts degree from Barnard College and later received her master's degree in foreign languages and mathematics from Columbia University in 1931.

She then went on to pursue her teaching career and taught mathematics at the Vail-Deane School in Elizabeth, N.J., and later at the Mary C. Wheeler School in Providence, R.I. While teaching in Providence, she was the Rhode Island representative to the National Council of Mathematics Teachers. Due to a hearing disability, she retired in 1935 from her career in teaching.

On Oct. 28, 1936, Margaret married Ralph Brown in New York City. A devoted couple, they continued to reside in the New York City area until moving to Cooperstown in December 1972. Ralph died at the age of 100 in their home on Leatherstocking Street on April 4, 1985.

Margaret enjoyed gardening, painting, letter writing, visiting with her numerous friends and reading. Knowledgeable in many fields and possessing many skills, she spoke and wrote five languages; grew and painted botanically correct watercolors of wild flowers; built, refinished and stenciled furniture; and made most of her own clothes.

A friend to many, Margaret will be remembered for her cheery smile.

Margaret was predeceased by her twin brothers, William Wilson Talley and Samuel Kinter Talley.

She is survived by one niece; two nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews. In Cooperstown, Margaret's most devoted and caring friend was Barbara Mook.

At Margaret's request, her burial will be private in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
