Ethel R. Artis

COLLEGE POINT — Ethel R. Artis, 76, of 2028 128th St., College Point, passed away Tuesday morning, July 25, 2000, at The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born Feb. 28, 1924, in College Point. Ethel was the daughter of the late John and Clara Bopp Schmermund.

On Feb. 10, 1942, she married Clifford R. Artis Jr. He predeceased her in 1978.

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ellen and Joseph Rauchbauer of Walton, Claire and Robert Swislosky of Sidney, Kathleen and William Gallagher of Unadilla and Jo Anne and Samuel Kedala of Wantage, N.J.; daughter-in-law, Jane Artis of Sidney; 20 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by one son, Clifford Artis III; and a sister, Marcella Sleter.

A funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2000, from St. Fidelis Church, College Point. Burial will follow in Mount St. Marys Cemetery, Flushing.

Friends are invited to call from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, and from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the James Stout Funeral Home, College Blvd., College Point.

Memorial gifts may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 356 North Midler Ave., Syracuse, N.Y. 13206.

Luther O. Sohns

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — Luther O. Sohns, 65, of Dawsonville, Ga, and formerly of Unadilla, N.Y., died unexpectedly Thursday, July 20, 2000, at his residence.

He was born March 16, 1935, in Germany, the son of Paul and Lucy (Kaesler) Sohns.

He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1958-1960.

He was married to Roxanne Fuller on June 29, 1984, in Wells Bridge, N.Y.

Luther was a retired truck driver and had been employed by Burton Lobdell of Oneonta, N.Y., for 20 years and retired from Riddell Brothers of Oneonta in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Roxanne Sohns of Dawsonville, Ga.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Luther J. Sohns of Unadilla and Kevin P. and Renee Sohns of Davenport Center, N.Y.; two stepsons and a stepdaughter-in-law, Wade Rockwell of Unadilla and Matthew and Nicole Shaffer of Unadilla; four stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Terri and Randy Reynolds of Franklin, Traci Ellex of Dawsonville, Ga., Michelle Crane of Dawsonville, Ga., and Crystal Carpenter of Unadilla; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Helmut and Joy Helen Sohns of Annandale, Va., and Klaus and Sharon Sohns of Treadwell, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000, at the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, N.Y., with the Rev. R. Michael Amos, pastor of the Fellowship Baptist Church, Unadilla, officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

There will be no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Cecilia Galatioto

ARKVILLE — Cecilia Maureen Galatioto, 37, died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at her home in Arkville, after a courageous battle with cancer. She is now at rest with her mother, Maureen, who died in 1969.

She was born Sept. 15, 1962, in Queens, the daughter of Francis and Maureen (Supple) Lynch.

She married Carl Galatioto of Rockville Center.

She was a homemaker and devoted mother of her four daughters.

She lived in Arkville for three years, moving from Hicksville.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville, Girl Scout leader in Margaretville, member of the PTA at the Margaretville Central School.

She graduated from the Berkeley Business School in Hicksville.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Galatioto of Rockville Center; four daughters, Katy, Stephanie, Carleen and Cassie; father, Francis Lynch of Mineola; and brother, Kevin Lynch of Levittown. She is also survived by her many close friends in the Margaretville area.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 29, 2000, at the Sacred Heart Church, Margaretville, with the Very Rev. Robert H. Purcell, celebrant, officiating.

Burial will be held in the Margaretville Cemetery, Margaretville.

The family will be in attendance Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Funeral arrangements are by the Hynes Funeral Home, Margaretville.

Nelson L. Crane

AFTON — Nelson L. Crane, 86, of O'Brien Road, Afton, passed away at his home, Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at 9:25 p.m. Nelson was with his daughters, Mary Contin and Trudy Williams at the time of his death.

He was born Feb. 23, 1914, in the town of Sanford. Nelson was the son of the late Charles and Gertrude Wakeman Crane.

On June 3, 1939, he married Marguerite Browning in Afton. She predeceased him Dec. 5, 1997.

For several years, Nelson was a truck driver of Agway, Afton.

He served his country during World War II with the United States Army. As a birthday gift from his granddaughter Staff Sgt. Brandy Morton, an American flag was flown over Iraq to honor the man that he was and his contribution to his country.

He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Alfred Conti of Afton and Trudy and Doug Williams of Unadilla; son, Robert Crane of Huntsville, Ala.; brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Terri Crane of Mount Upton; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

He was predeceased by his sister, Irene Laux.

In respect to Nelson's wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.

Memorial gifts in his name may be directed to the Hospice at Lourdes Hospital, 169 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, N.Y.

Arrangements are under the direction of the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.

Ralph J. Imundo II

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Mr. Ralph J. Imundo II, 31, a native Utican and current resident of Richfield Springs, passed away on Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Faxton Hospital. His family was by his side at the time of his passing.

Born in Utica on July 22, 1969, Ralph was the son of Ralph Imundo and Susan (Amato) Imundo.

Raised and educated locally, he was a member of Utica Free Academy's Class of 1987. He subsequently graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College and attended the University of North Carolina where he concentrated in the area of business administration.

At one time he was married to the former Annissa Riggles.

On Aug. 9, 1996, Ralph was joined in marriage with the former LynnEtta Butler. Ralph and Lynn have always been best friends, bonding in a special relationship that has afforded them the opportunity to establish and share a mutually loving and companionable union.

Mr. Imundo's professional career has always been centered upon the automotive industry: In addition to past employment and experience in the field of automobile sales, he has also been self-employed in various businesses related to motor vehicles — he had an auto detailing shop, and for the past two years he operated the Express Car Wash on Commercial Drive, serving as vice-president of the corporation during the time of his affiliation with the enterprise.

Mr. Imundo is survived by his loving wife, Lynn of Richfield Springs; his daughter, Amanda Marie Imundo, whom he adored and loved with all his heart; his mother and stepfather, Susan and Gary Hunt of Herkimer; his father, Ralph J. Imundo Sr. of Utica; and his maternal grandmother, Lucy Amato of Utica. He is also survived by a sister, Andrea Imundo of Utica; a brother, Matthew Imundo; his aunts and uncles, Donna and Pat Romeo, Robert Imundo and Marie Quigley, Bea and Rocco Rocco and Dominick and Christina Amato; his great-aunts, and great-uncles; many cousins; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Betty and Leonard Butler of Richfield Springs; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; his nieces and nephews, Brandon, Katherine, Jessika, Rhonda, Ronnie, Sierra and Madisyn; and his godfather, Archie Gaetano. The family also acknowledges the friendship of Joe Steets and the loyal and dedicated commitment of J.C. and Karri. Ralph also leaves his faithful canine companion, Diezel.

Mr. Imundo was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Sebastian Amato; and his paternal grandparents, Ralph and Dolores Imundo.

Visitation will be held on Friday (today) from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Eannace Funeral Home Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Avenue. The Prayer of Incense will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

By family request, please omit floral offerings.

Ralph's funeral will commence on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. from the funeral home and at 11 a.m. at St. Louis Gonzaga Church where the Divine Liturgy of the Faithful Departed will be celebrated. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Ruth M. McGuire

ONEONTA — Ruth Mary McGuire, 77, of Oneonta and formerly of Matawan and Rumson, N.J., died Wednesday, July 26, 2000, at Delaware County Countryside Care Center, Delhi.

She was born Aug. 27, 1922, in Carbondale, Pa., the daughter of Patrick F. McAndrew and Ruth (Tighe) McAndrew.

Ruth married Hugh Vincent McGuire on April 28, 1945, in St. Joseph's Church, Keyport, N.J. He died in March 1994.

She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, and involved with the Young at Heart. She was also past grand regent of the Catholic Daughters and involved with the Alter & Rosary Society at St. Joseph's Church, Keyport, N.J.

Ruth was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin High School and Simpson Business School, Carbondale, Pa.

She worked as a legal secretary, retiring in 1987, from Reussille, Cornwell, Mausner & Carutenuto law firm in Red Bank, N.J. Before that she worked as a housekeeper for Bishop John Imesch of Our Lady of Sorrows Rectory in Farmington, Mich.

She is survived by two sons, Michael McGuire of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Andrew McGuire of Upper Montclair, N.J.; five daughters, Ruth and Patricia McGuire of Chesterfield, N.J., Mrs. Kevin (Jean) Maier of Boca Raton, Fla., Mrs. Richard (Mary Ann) Meise of Pine,  Colo., and Mrs. Hugh (Sharon) Smith of Otego; and seven grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, Stephen J. McGuire, in December 1989.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, July 31, 2000, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Oneonta, with the Rev. Robert Longobucco, associate pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

Friends may call Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at which time the family will be in attendance.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church, Oneonta.

Arrangements are with the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Milton G. Wayman

OTEGO — Mr. Milton G. Wayman, 79, died Thursday morning, July 27, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 12, 1921, in Hancock, the son of Grover and Bessie (Tuttle) Wayman.

He married Betty Houck on Dec. 24, 1942, in Walton.

Milton was a self-employed contractor.

He was a member of the Otego Rod & Gun Club. He loved deer hunting, gardening and having his morning coffee with his buddies at the Otego Country Store.

He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who will be deeply missed.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Jane A. and Dan Bettman of Otego, Barbara W. and Jonathan Clark of Otego and Tracy J. and Eric Mengelson of Ft. Walton, Fla.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy L. and Doris Wayman of Otego, Donald M. and Sheryl Wayman of Seaford, Va., Richard D. and Lynne Wayman of High Point, N.C., and Roland L. "Skip" and Jill Wayman of Bainbridge; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Rena Smith of Delhi; one brother, Leland Wayman of Arkansas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Milton was predeceased by a grandson, Brian Wayman; one sister, Irene Kilmer; and two brothers, Clifford and Harold Wayman.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 31, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego. Burial will be in the Walton Cemetery, Walton. The family will be present at the funeral home on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made to either Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820 or to the Otego Rod & Gun Club, East Branch Otsdawa Road, Otego, N.Y. 13825 in loving memory of Milton G. Wayman.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Otego.

Marie Froh

ONEONTA — Marie Froh, 97, of Oneonta, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home, Oneonta.

She was born June 29, 1903, in the Bronx, the daughter of Herman and Marie (Zingelmann) Wild.

She married Herbert O. Froh on Feb. 16, 1930, in Brooklyn. Mr. Froh died Feb. 17, 1979.

Marie was chief clerk for the New York State Employment Office in New York City, retiring in 1968. Before her marriage, she was a secretary for the Manpower Development Program.

She moved to Oneonta in November 1984.

She was a member of the Martha Chapter Order of Eastern Star, a past matron for the Star of Hope Chapter Order of Eastern Star, and a past mother advisor Order of Rainbow in Hollis, Queens. She has been a member of Order of Eastern Star for more than 70 years. Marie was also treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary for the West Hurley Fire Department in West Hurley.

Marie is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Paula Froh of Portland, Ore., and Herbert and Rae Froh of Oneonta; her daughter, Nancy MacMaster of West Granby, Conn.; five grandchildren and their spouses, David Froh, Bonnie and Craig Hawksley, Brian and Bonnie MacMaster, Jan and Ed Sikorski and Christopher and Mary Froh; seven great-grandchildren, Karrisa, Travis, Joshua, Jennifer, Timothy, Megan and Ciara.

In honor of Marie's wishes, there will be no funeral services or calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are by Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Mildred Harrington

WEST BURLINGTON — Mildred E. Harrington, 98, formerly of West Burlington, died Friday, July 28, 2000, at Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin.

She was born Nov. 3, 1901, in  Jefferson, Schoharie County, the daughter of Lillie (Clapper) and Isaac Wayman, the youngest of six children.

She married Carl L. Harrington on June 30, 1920, in the family home, Snowden Hill, in the town of Hartwick. They lived in West Burlington for 70 years before her husband's death on June 14,1992.

Her home was her castle, she was an excellent cook and was happy keeping everything spotless. An accomplished musician, she played the piano for Sunday School at the West Burlington Church (now Pathfinder Village). She stayed in her home at West Burlington until June 1995 when poor health forced her to Chase Nursing Home in New Berlin There, her quiet, "make the best of it" attitude gave her strength to adjust and become a content and popular resident.

No words can express the family's gratitude for the wonderful care and comfort Mildred received at Chase Nursing Home.

She was an active member of Burlington Methodist Church for many years.

She is survived by her devoted daughter and family; Elna and Peter Virtell of New Berlin; a grandson, Mark Harrington Virtell, of Freeville; a "like-a-daughter," Janet Griffiths Myers, of West Winfield; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Francis Harrington of Burlington Flats and Mrs. Lysle Harrington of Cooperstown; and several beloved nieces.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 31, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Houk- Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston, with the Rev. William Highfield and the Rev. Beverly Butler officiating.

Burial will follow at Burlington Flats Cemetery.

Calling hours are Sunday, July 30, 2000, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider the Chase Nursing Home Memorial Fund or the Methodist church in either Burlington Flats or New Berlin.

Arrangements are by the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.

Dorothy Constable

SIDNEY — Dorothy G. Constable, 83, of 200 Fox St., Sidney, died Thursday, July 27, 2000, in Gilmour Health Care Facility, Norwich.

She was born Nov. 15, 1916, in New Haven, Conn., the daughter of Willie and Louise (Lawrence) Genung.

She was married to Robert R. Constable, Sept. 3, 1938, in New Berlin. He died July 6, 1985.

Dorothy is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Keith Constable of Glendale, Ariz., and Jeffrey and Betty Constable of Norwich; her grandchildren, Domenic Podix, Robert G. Constable, Katherine Constable, Denise Smith, Derek Diamond, Kimberly Diamond, Kevin Diamond, Gregory Constable and Elizabeth Constable; and also three great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter, Joanne Diamond, and her sister, Helen Genung.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, in St. Matthew's Cemetery, Unadilla, with the Rev. David H. Wood, pastor of the West Bainbridge Baptist Church, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.
