WALTER HUBIAK

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Walter Hubiak age 80 entered into eternal rest on Tuesday May 15, 2001 in the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home, Ilion where he had been a patient since May 11th.

He was born on July 9, 1920 in Woodside, PA, son of the late Thomas and Katie Okomo Hubiak. He is survived by his wife Madalyn, two sons and their wives; Walter and Margie Hubiak, Ronald and Diane Hubiak, two grandchildren; Chad Hubiak, Michelle Hubiak Hoag, five great grandchildren; Elijah and Chayndell Hoke, Shailynne Hoag all of Richfield Springs, Michael and Lori Hubiak along with their mother Antoinette Hubiak Eddy, two brothers and their wives John and Mildred Hubiak, Joseph and Rose Hubiak of VanHornesville. Several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a grandson Shannon Hubiak and three sisters; Helen Hunt, Mary Oeser and Anna Kuzemchak.

Most of Walters’s life was spent on the family farm on Chyle Road. He retired in 1979, moving to the Edick Road, town of Springfield residence in 1984. It was Walter’s request that there are no calling hours and that the funeral be private. A graveside service in Lakeview Cemetery will take place at a later time covenient to the family. Memorial donations may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 524 Main Street, Oneonta, New York 13820. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Grant Palmer

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Grant Palmer Sr. age 92 of County Highway # 24, Monticello, town of Richfield passed away unexpectedly on Thursday November 1, 2001 in his home.

He was born on March 30, 1909 in Richfield, son of the late Frank and Blanche Edick Palmer. A lifelong Richfield resident he was educated in both Monticello and Richfield Schools.

On March 20, 1939 he married Margurite Seamon in Richfield, a loving and devoted union of Forty years until her passing on January 16, 1980. Grant had first worked for the Duofold Company as a shipping clerk. He then went on to work for the Otsego County Highway Department where he had worked for forty years, retiring in 1971 as a working foreman. After his retirement from the county he worked for ten more years at Ryerson’s Otsego Golf Course.

He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten. For many years he served on the Republican Committee of Otsego County and many other organizations.

Grant was a big country music fan and particularly liked to listen to the Del-Se-Nango’s. He had a love for the outdoors and nature. He had a strong belief in God and led a Christian life. He will be greatly missed.

Surviving him are two sons and their wives; Grant Jr. and Ruth Palmer, Douglas and Karen Palmer, one daughter Jean Coones all of Richfield Springs, a sister Ruth Burrows of Zephyr Hills, FL nine grandchildren , seven great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his wife Margurite, Grant was preceded in death by a brother Otis Palmer in 1976.

Funeral service will be on Monday at 10:00 AM in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Young will officiate. Interment will follow in Twilight Rest Cemetery, town of Richfield. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Sunday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

William Mills Robertson

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - William Mills Robertson, 88, passes away on Sunday evening February 11, 2001 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was born on may 31, in the town of Warren, son of the late John S. and Catherine Mills Robertson. A lifelong area resident he was educated in Mohawk Schools.

On May 31, 1936, he married Bernice Martin in the Methodist Church Parsonage in Mohawk. Bill started out working as a farmer then went to work for the Highway Department in the town of Columbia and Warren. The last ten years of his working career were spent with the Herkimer County Highway Department retiring in 1974. He was a honorably discharged member of the US Army National Guard.

Surviving besides his wife of 64 years, Bernice are tow daughters and their husband, Shirley and Stephen Wasyk of Hatfield, PA, Barbara and Frank Kasprowicz of Richfield Springs; six grand children, Sandra Truaz of Leonardsville, Kelly Stone and her husband Jeff of Schuyler Lake, Terry Ward and her husband Matt of East Herkimer, James Truaz and his wife Marleen of Kentucky, Craig Wacyk and his wife Ursula of Sellersville, Marsha Hirst and her husband Scott of Scottsdale, AZ; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one brother-in-law Joseph H. Pickett, Sr. of Ilion; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother John Robertson; four sisters, Anne Zehms, Emily Mead, Elizabeth Tibbets and Genevieve Pickett.

Funeral service will be on Thursday at 11:00am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend George Green rector of St. Augustine Episcopal Church Ilion will officiate. Interment will take place in Cedarville Cemetery later this spring.

The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Wednesday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Memorial donation may be made to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Dorothy Estella Robinson

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Dorothy Estella Robinson, age 77, of Windsor Drive, Monroe, GA, passed away on Tuesday March 27, 2001 in the Social Circle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Walton, GA.

She was born on March 12, 1924, in Frankfort, daughter of the late Chester A. and Helen O'Rourke Sturges. Dorothy was raised and educated in both Frankfort and Mohawk, graduating from Mohawk High School.

On November 19, 1949, she married James C. Robinson in the Mohawk United Methodist Church. For many years she worked as a bookkeeper for Beaney Transport Company in Rochester until her retirement.

She was of the Methodist faith. When she lived locally she was a member of the Ilion Bowling League, AARP and was a former member of the Mohawk Chapter # 319 Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving besides her husband of fifty-one years James, are one son, John E. Robinson, of Doraville, GA; a daughter, Jayne R. and her husband David Rogers, of Loganville, GA; one brother, Harry and his wife Marie Sturges of Ravena; two sisters and their husbands, Marian and James Legg, of East Herkimer, Mildred and Horace Stone, of Richfield Springs; one granddaughter, several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be on Friday at 2:00 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend James Barnes, II, pastor of Jordanville Federated Church of Christ, will officiate.

Interment in Lakeview Cemetery will be later this spring. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 11:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Lyman C. Wing

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Lyman C. Wing, age 84, of 690 West German Street, Herkimer, formerly of RD # 3, Richfield Springs passed away on Sunday morning November 11, 2001 in Valley Health Services Inc., Herkimer.

He was born on May 28, 1917, in Richfield Springs, son of the late Carl J. and Grace Baker Wing. A lifelong resident of Richfield Springs, he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School "Class of 1935" and Morrisville Agricultural College "Class of 1937". Lyman's entire life was dairy farming. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Richfield Springs retiring in 1992. He was an active member of the Schuyler Lake Universalist Church where he served as church treasurer of over thirty-five years. He was a former member of the Richfield Grange, Dairylea, Farm Bureau, the Exeter Historical Society and the Schuyler Lake Cemetery Association. Lyman was a very generous man who always thought of others rather than himself.

Surviving him are his sister Dorothy and her husband Albert Ames of Richfield Springs,; two nieces, Susan Compton of Oneonta, Caroly Wilston of Mainesburg, PA and one nephew Charles Ames of Richfield Springs.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister Lucy F. Wing.

Funeral service will be on Wednesday at 2:00p.m. in the Schuyler Lake Universalist Church. The Reverend John Young pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Schuyler Lake Cemetery. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs on Tuesday evening from7:00 until 9:00 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Schuyler Lake Universalist Church, c/o Linden Summers, Church Treasurer, 125 Main Street, Suite #3. Oneonta, NY 13820. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Henry Christmann

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Henry Christmann, "O.F.," 82, of U.S. Highway 20, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at his residence.
He was born, on Oct. 14, 1919, in Patterson, N.J., son of the late Henry and Hattie Wuensch Christmann.

Henry was raised in Patterson and was a graduate of Patterson High School. During World War II he served with the United States Army, where he received the European African-Middle Eastern Service Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1945. On Oct. 5, 1949, he married Rose Marie Russo in Brooklyn, a blessed union of 53 years until her passing in October of 2001. Mr. Christmann worked as a linotype operator for the Patterson News, retiring in 1986. He and his wife moved to Richfield Springs in 1991. Henry was a gentle man with a warm sense of humor. To all who new him, they will remember his smile and easy-going manner.

Surviving him are two sons, Christopher and his wife, JoAnn, Christmann of Richfield Springs, Mark Christmann of Edmeston; two brothers, Charles Christmann of Richfield Springs and Roy Christmann of Los Angeles,  Calif.; three grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents and wife, Rose, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Christmann, and a brother, Harold Christmann.

Funeral service and interment are private and at the convenience of the family. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Frances Marie Guzik
RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Frances Marie Guzik, age 91 of McKoons Road, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, July 29, 2002 in Folts Homes Herkimer.

She was born on March 25, 1911 in the town of Columbia, daughter of the late Lucas and Ida Jakiewich Szeliga. A lifelong Columbia resident, she was educated in the Columbia School. On April 29, 1929, she married Joseph Guzik in St. Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs a loving and devoted union of fifty-eight years until his passing on August 19, 1987. For over forty years she worked along side of her husband on the Guzik Bee-line Farm in the town of Columbia.

Mrs. Guzik was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Church Richfield Springs and the Rosary Society of the church. She will always be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and will be missed by many, especially her family.

Surviving are one son, Walter and his wife Lorraine Guzik of Richfield Springs, eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Agnes Szeliga of Saquoit, several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Stanley in 1941, a daughter Helen Jouben in 1983, a brother, Joseph Szeliga and a sister Agnes Bibik and a niece Frances Louise Guzik.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph's Church Richfield Springs.. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family will be present in Chapel area of the Church of Christ Uniting, 14 Church Street, Richfield Springs to receive relatives and friends on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Memorial donations may be made to Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs envelopes will be available at the calling hours.

Douglas A. Huckabone
SPRINGFIELD CENTER - Douglas Huckabone, age 59, of Doyle Road, passed away on Tuesday afternoon July 30, 2002, in Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica with the comfort of his loving family around him.

He was born on December 14, 1942 in the town of Deerfield, son of the late Robert and Gladys Dygert Huckabone. A lifelong area resident he was educated in Poland Central School. On July 22 1972, he married Jean Fahey in Little Falls. They have resided in Springfield Center since 1972. For the past twenty-eight years he worked as an electrician for Titan Homes in Sangerfield.

He was a member of the VanHornesville United Methodist Church, the Ilion Moose Club # 1010, a former member of the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department. Doug had a strong love for the outdoors and nature he enjoyed camping at Belvedere Lake in Roseboom where he made many friends. He was an active person who loved to hunt with his boys, his nephew Eddie and his friends. One of the special things Doug enjoyed was spending time with his daughters and grandchildren. For many years he raised beagles and was a member of the Fort Plain Beagle Club. He enjoyed spending time with his own housedogs Zipper and Lola. Doug truly enjoyed people and was always ready to give a helping hand to those in need. He was fun loving and particularly liked to dance and would make a good time for all. He will be missed by many especially his family.

Surviving him besides his wife of thirty years Jean are two sons Douglas and his wife Bethany Main of Black River, Joseph and his wife Kimberly Main of Camilus; three daughters, Dawn Huckabone-Myers of Springfield Center, Michele Huckabone and her companion Fred Carbonara of Westville, Melissa Huckabone of Springfield Center, three brothers, Kenneth Huckabone and his companion Joan, Claude Huckabone and his wife Mary Etta, Nelson Huckabone; two sisters, Dorothy Lamphere and her husband Franklin, Betty Lamphere, his mother-in-law Mildred Fahey. Also surviving are sister-in-laws Arlene Huckabone, Jane Huckabone,, Marjorie Jukes, brother-in-laws, Robert Fahey and his wife Joan, Bernard Fahey and his wife Mary Jane, Donald Fahey and His wife Vanetta, aunts' uncles, several nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

The family wishes to send a special thanks to his nephew, Kevin Lamphere for all of his guidance and love, also to Dr. Joyce, Dr. Patel and the dedicated nursing staff on the cardiac unit of St. Elizabeth Hospital and all the other patient family members in the waiting room that gave us the support and strength in our time of need.

Funeral service will be on Saturday at 11:00 am in the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. The Reverend William Harkins, pastor will officiate. Interment will follow in Springfield Center Cemetery. The family will be present in the Church of Christ Uniting to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
