Dorothy M. Yeoman

UTICA - Dorothy M. Yeoman, 81, of Saratoga Street, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Jan. 29, 2004, in her home.

She was born Aug. 18, 1922, in Richfield Springs, daughter of the late John and Rugena Guyer Perrone. Dorothy was raised and educated in Richfield Springs until 1933, when her family moved to Utica. She was a graduate of Utica Free Academy. During World War II she entered the U.S. Army and served with the Women's Army Corps, receiving the European-Africa-Middle Eastern Service Medal, the WAAC Service Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. She was honorably discharged in 1945. At one time she had worked as a bookkeeper for the Snyder Bicycle Manufacturing Co. in Little Falls and later for Montgomery Ward. She was of the Episcopal faith.

Surviving are two brothers, George Perrone of Whitesboro and Lyle Perrone of  Texas, several nieces and nephews along with her best friend, Kathy Ward.

Besides her parents, two brothers, Howard and Kenneth Perrone, preceded her in death.

There are no calling hours.

Mrs. Yeoman will be laid to rest with military honors later this spring in Lake View Cemetery, Richfield Springs, at a time to be announced.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Anna W. Bruce

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Anna W. Bruce age 96 of 104 North  Washington Street, Herkimer formerly of Richfield Springs passed away on Thursday morning April 28, 2005 in Folts Homes Herkimer.

She was born on October 6, 1908 in the town of Richfield, daughter of the late Charles and Katherine Jennings Wikoff. Mrs. Bruce was raised and educated in Richfield Springs. She furthered her education, graduating from Syracuse University. On November 19, 1930 she was united in marriage with Louis R. Bruce. A loving and devoted union of fifty-eight years, Mr. Bruce died on May 20, 1989. They had made their home in Chevy Chase, MD,  Washington, DC and Arlington, VA before moving back to Richfield Springs in 1988.

Mrs. Bruce had a strong belief in God and was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs. She had taught Sunday School, played the organ and served as church choir director.

Anna was happiest when she was surrounded by her many friends and family especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be truly missed.

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Charles W. Bruce and his wife Dr. San Juan Bruce of El Paso, TX, Donald Bruce and his wife Melanie of Richfield Springs, a daughter Katherine and her husband William Huxtable of Richfield Springs, eight grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren one nephew and several cousins

Funeral arrangements with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs will be announced at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad.

Donald B. Chadwell

RICHFIELD SPRINGS-Donald B. Chadwell age 72 of Lake Street entered into eternal rest on Friday morning April 29, 2005 in Saint Elizabeth’s Medical center, Utica.

He was born on March 23, 1933 in Tulsa,  Oklahoma son of the late Paul and Marion Post Chadwell. Don was raised in Tulsa and graduated from Tulsa Central High School with the class of “1951”. He furthered his education, graduating from the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science in Dallas  Texas. On September 19, 1954 he was united in marriage with Edna M. Burnside in West Winfield. They had lived in Liberty and West Winfield before moving to Richfield Springs in 1969. For many years Mr. Chadwell had worked as a deliveryman for Baker Greenhouses in Utica, retiring in 1992.

Donald was a family man who most of his leisure time was spent with his children as they grew up. He served as President of the Richfield Springs Little League, had coached American Legion and Babe Ruth League Baseball as well as coaching with the Pop Warner League in Cherry Valley.

As a husband and father he had a strength that kept everyone together and could rely on. He will be greatly missed by many especially his family.

Surviving him are his loving wife of fifty years Edna, four children, Eric and his wife Diana Chadwell of Richfield Springs, Jeff and his wife Angela Chadwell of Burlington Flats, Terri and her husband Len Klawoon of Punta Gorda, FL, James Chadwell and his companion Jennifer Smith of Rome, a sister, Helen Brown of  Oklahoma City, OK, one grandson D. J. Springer of Richfield Springs, several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents two sisters, Carole Chadwell and Beverly Pleasant, preceded him in death.

Funeral service will take place on Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Young will officiate. The family will present in the funeral home to receive relative’s and friends Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Barbara M. Silvers

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Barbara M. Silvers, 80, of Main Street, entered into eternal rest Tuesday morning, Feb. 1, 2005, in The Manor, Cooperstown.

She was born Jan. 1, 1925, in Poughkeepsie, daughter of the late Maxmillion and Sarah Morning Selig. Barbara was raised in Poughkeepsie, where she went to Saint Mary's School and graduated from Poughkeepsie High School. She was united in marriage with Joseph W. Silvers in Poughkeepsie, a loving union of many years until his passing in 1964. Mrs. Silvers worked as a waitress in various restaurants in Poughkeepsie and the surrounding area, retiring in 1991. While living in Poughkeepsie she was a member of the Wappingers Falls Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary. She moved to Richfield Springs in 1991.

Surviving are two daughters, Theresa Zydel of Schuyler Lake and Barbara Mosher and her husband William of Poughkeepsie; a daughter-in-law, Veronica Silvers of Springfield; two sisters, Mary Shea of Poughkeepsie, Ann Sianinka of Hyde Park; six beloved grandchildren, eight adoring great-grandchildren who knew her as "Nanny Noo," along with several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Joseph, she was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Silvers, a son-in-law, David Zydel and three brothers.

Calling hours will be Friday from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m. in Saint Joseph's Church, Richfield Springs.

Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the Catskill Area Hospice Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta 13820.

Elizabeth Weaver

SPRINGFIELD CENTER - Elizabeth Weaver, age 86, of State Highway # 80, entered into eternal rest on Saturday morning February 19, 2005 in Otsego Manor, Cooperstown.

She was born on December 22, 1918 in the town of Warren, daughter of the late Curtis and Daisy Armstrong Seeber. A lifelong area resident she educated in Warren Elementary School and graduated from Richfield Springs High School. Elizabeth was first married to Melzer Demorest. They moved to Springfield Center in 1945 coming from Cherry Valley. Mr. Demorest passed away in 1956. On April 4, 1959 she was united in marriage with John Aaron Weaver in Richfield Springs. A devoted union of twenty years Mr. Weaver preceded her in death on October 23, 1979.

Mrs. Weaver had worked for the Thomas Goodyear Turkey Farm, the Remington Arms Company in Ilion and for fifteen years served as Senior Clerk for the Department of Motor Vehicles, Otsego County retiring in 1985.

Elizabeth had a strong belief in God and was a member of the East Springfield Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Springfield Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

To all who knew her they will remember her friendly manner and warm smile. She will be greatly missed by many, especially her family.

Surviving are three sons and their wives, Charles and Janet Demorest, George and Donna Demorest all of Springfield, Herbert and Denise Weaver of Panama City, FL, fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents and first husband Melzer and second husband John she was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Seeber Jr., a daughter, June Sheldon in 1994 and a grandson, Erik Sheldon in 1995.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 11:00 am in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Young will officiate. Mrs. Weaver will be laid to rest in Springfield Center Cemetery later this spring. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Monday from 6:00 until 9:00pm. Expressions of sympathy may be made with donations to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Burr Leroy LaGrange

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Burr Leroy LaGrange, age 38, of County Highway 25 passed away unexpectedly on Friday evening April 14, 2006.
He was born June 30, 1967 in Little Falls and since the age of 7 was raised in Litchfield. Burr was educated in Mount Markham Schools and after his graduation in 1986 he joined the United States Army serving until 1990.

For the past four years, Burr was a yard driver for the Wal-Mart warehouse in Sharon Springs. He was a member of the Church of Christ Uniting, Richfield Springs, a dedicated member of the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed the outdoors and nature. In his leisure you would find him either hunting, motorcycling or boating.

Burr will always be remembered as a loving father and a devoted son and brother. To all who knew him they will miss his warm smile and willingness to help others. He will be truly missed by his many friends and family.

He is survived by his mother Pauline LaGrange, his foster mother Carol Westbrook; a son James LaGrange of Corning; three daughters Janee LaGrange of Corning, Danielle and Kaitlyn LaGrange both of Little Falls; five brothers, Harold LaGrange and his wife Michelle of Dolgeville, Edward LaGrange of Little Falls, William Westbrook and his wife Wendy of Edmeston, and Rodney Westbrook of Leonardsville, eight sisters; JoAnne Howe of Ilion, Mary Ann Barnes and her husband Thomas of Dolgeville, Donna Vedder and her husband Gene of Salisbury, Ruth Mamrosh and her husband James of Dolgeville, Emma Vokins of St. Johnsville, Robin Owens and her husband Brian of Clinton, Cathy Eysaman and her husband Edward of Mohawk, Tammy Khan of Herkimer, his companion Victoria Perry along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. A brother James preceded Burr in death in 1979

A Memorial Service will be on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. in the Church of Christ Uniting, Church Street, Richfield Springs, with the Reverend William Harkins, Pastor officiating.

There are no calling hours.

Members of the Schuyler Lake Volunteer Fire Department are asked to assemble in the church at 9:50 am to conduct ritualistic services.

In lieu of flowers donations to his family would be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Ella B. Hailston

RICHFIELD SPRINGS - Ella B. Hailston, age 94, of Little Lakes Road passed away peacefully on Monday evening October 1, 2007 in Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

She was born on February 1, 1913 in the town of Plainfield, daughter of the late Walter and Grace Casler Brown. A lifelong area resident Ella was a graduate of West Winfield High School. She furthered her education at the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL.

On June 10, 1936 she was united in marriage with Gordon E. Hailston in Unadilla Forks. They shared a blessed union of fifty-two years, until his passing on December 22, 1984.

Ella had a strong belief in God and was a devoted member of the Jordanville Federated Church in Jordanville. She was also a member of the Jordanville Ladies Aide and the Warren Grange.

Mrs. Hailstons’ life was completely devoted to her family, her home and her church. Cherished are the memories of family times spent together and the wonderful aromas that filled their home with her baking those special molasses cookies or the many great meals that only she could cook. In her leisure time, Ella enjoyed hooking rugs, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Surviving are three sons, Robert Hailston of Bloomville, Edward Hailston and his wife Joan of Richfield Springs, Richard Hailston of Warren, a brother-in-law, John Hailston and his wife Dorothy of Ilion, eleven grandchildren several great grandchildren along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides her parents and husband Gordon she was preceded in death by an infant daughter Royann Elizabeth Hailston.

Funeral service will be on Friday at 10:00 am in the Jordanville Federated Church with the Reverend Scott Hocking and Pastor Carolee Coy officiating. Interment will be in Crown Hill Memorial Park, Kirkland. There are no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Robert Leslie Walters

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Robert L. Walters, age 81, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning March 31, 2007 in Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown .

He was born February 26, 1926 in Weehawken , NJ a son of the late Frank James and Helen Clair Walters. Robert was raised in Flushing, Queens and graduated from Flushing High School . He furthered his studies at Rutgers University but was interrupted by World War II when he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps and became Crew Chief of a squadron of P-40’s. He was honorably discharged in 1946 attaining the rank of Air Cadet. He then returned to Rutgers where he completed his studies, receiving a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.

On September 17, 1949 he married the former Marjorie Williams in Flushing, Queens; they had resided in Long Island and in Ho-Ho-Kus , NJ . They summered in Richfield Springs from 1965 until 1986. They took up permanent residence in 1986 when Mr. Walters retired as District Manager with Champion International Paper Products.

Robert was a member of the Paramus Dutch Reformed Church in Ridgewood , NJ , many local organizations including the Richfield Springs Historical Society where he provided essential support for the repair and restoration of the historic landmark village clock. In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking and had designed and constructed many cabinets and furniture. He also had a strong love for the outdoors, skiing and animals. He was happiest when he was surrounded by his many friends and family especially his two cherished grandchildren.

Robert was a unique, unselfish and private person who truly enjoyed doing for others, rather than they doing for him. He was the support and influence that helped his wife Marjorie with her many projects and organizations within the Richfield community.

He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

Surviving him are his wife of fifty-seven years Marjorie, a son Richard James Walters and his wife Cathy of New Hartford, his grandson Blake Newell Walters and granddaughter Avery Newell Walters, a brother Donald and his wife Mary Edith Walters of Rochester .

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a son Robert Bowne Walters in 1973.

Funeral service will be on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home; 40 West James Street , Richfield Springs. The Reverend John Dixon Bartle, Rector of Saint John’s Episcopal Church, Richfield Springs will officiate. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 3:00 pm until the time of the service.

Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to the Richfield Springs Historical Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
