Patricia G. Parese
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Patricia Greenlee Parese, 50, of Prospect Street, died on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 17, 2000, in her home with her loving family by her side, after a courageous 10-year battle with breast cancer.
She was born in Little Falls Hospital on Aug. 6, 1950, daughter of Robert and Katherine (Silvernail) Greenlee.
Patricia was raised and educated in Dolgeville and went on to Houghton College, graduating in 1972 with a bachelor of science degree in music education.
She began her teaching career in Cooperstown Central School District as a music teacher, later teaching fourth grade, sixth grade and kindergarten.
She married Gary Parese on Aug. 19, 1972, in Dolgeville.
Patricia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and friend whose life revolved around her family. She was a kind, caring and non-judgmental person who always brought peace and love into other peoples' lives.
She was a woman of great spirit and faith.
She was a musically talented individual whose spirit will always live on. Her family and friends loved her and will deeply miss her.
Surviving, besides her husband of 28 years, Gary, and her parents, Katherine and Robert Greenlee, are one son, Errin and his wife, Crystal Parese, of Gilbertsville; her daughter, Kate Parese of Richfield Springs; and a sister, Pamela Cali and her husband, Joseph, of Argyle, N.Y.
She also is survived by her mother- and father-in-law, Rose and Tom Parese, and sister-in-law Bonnie and Gary Kirchofer, all of Dolgeville; and sister-in-law Lauren Parese of Westmoreland.
Surviving nieces and nephews are Jessica and Buz Davis of Cincinnati, Ohio, Jeff and Denise Kirchofer of Fort Hood, Texas, Greg Kirchofer of Toledo, Ohio, and Kristen and Kevin Wieszenski of Gloversville.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at 7 p.m. in the Mohawk Methodist Church. The Rev. Deborah Wollaber, pastor, will officiate.
There are no calling hours.
Memorial donations may be made to Patricia Parese Scholarship Fund in care of Richfield Springs Central Schools. Envelopes will be available at the memorial service.

Clinton R. Ellis
BAINBRIDGE — Clinton R. Ellis, 73, of Bainbridge, passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, at The Hospital, Sidney.
He was born Sept. 3, 1927, in Trout Creek, to the late Ray and Minnie (Reynolds) Ellis.
Mr. Ellis married Bertha Stevens on July 4, 1958, in Bainbridge.
He was employed as a truck driver for more than 40 years.
Mr. Ellis was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose #277, Sidney.
He is survived by his wife, Bertha Ellis, of Bainbridge; son, Joseph Ellis, of South Carolina; son, James Ellis, Oxford, N.Y.; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Debra Ellis, of Bainbridge; son and daughter-in-law, Irvin and Vicky Stevens, of Bainbridge; a daughter, Sandra Ellis, of Bainbridge; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Ann Ellis, of Potsdam; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also predeceased by grandson, Dane Ellis; a great- grandson, Anthony Ross; and brothers, Dewey and Ray.
Friends may call Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m. by the Loyal Order of Moose #277, Sidney, in the Funeral Chapel.
Contributions may be made to the Bainbridge Emergency Squad.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc. Sidney.
Ella R. Geerken
WEST DAVENPORT — A celebration of the life of Ella Ritter (Grandma) Geerken, who died in February, will be held at the West Davenport Free Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at 3 p.m.
The service will be conducted by Bishop/Pastor John Osterhout.
Family will be in attendance. Everyone is invited to participate and share a favorite story about "Grandma."
James D. Duncan
COOPERSTOWN — James Duane Duncan, 42, died on Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in Ellis Hospital, Schenectady.
He was born on April 11, 1958, in Ilion, the son of Frank Duncan and the late Shirley Slater Duncan.
A lifelong area resident, he received his education in the Milford school system.
On Oct. 19, 1983, he married Deborah Schultz.
He was a mechanic and farmer. For more than 16 years, he worked for the Drake Farms in Milford. James enjoyed deer hunting and the demolition derbies.
Surviving him are his father, Frank Duncan of Schuyler Lake; his wife, Deborah; his children, Amy Duncan of Ilion and James and Nicole; a grandson, Devon James Duncan; four brothers and their wives, Steven and Carolyn Duncan and Frank Jr. and Teena Duncan, all of Cooperstown, David and Darlene Duncan of Maryland and Joseph and Joyce Duncan of Herkimer; two sisters, Terry Kilts of Milford and Dawn Covey and her husband, Fred, of Cherry Valley; many aunts and uncles, including a special aunt and uncle, Carol and Irving Boyer of Stratford; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral service will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, with the Rev. John Young officiating. Interment will follow in West Windfield Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Wednesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m.
Beulah Anderson
MARYLAND — Beulah May Anderson, 86, of Maryland, died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, with her family, Arline and John by her side.
She was predeceased by her husbands Wesley MacNaughton and then Gunnar A. Anderson.
Mrs. Anderson moved to the area 28 years ago from Long Island.
She is survived by her two daughters, Arline, and her husband, John Schuck, of Westford and Joan and her husband, Fred Limbach, of East Northport; a stepdaughter, Linda, and her husband, John Kolb, of Long Island; a stepson, Eric, and his wife, Arlyn Anderson, of Schenevus; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Schenevus Cemetery, with the Rev. William Robert Thompson, pastor of the First Baptist Church, Schenevus.
Contributions may be made in loving memory of Mrs. Anderson to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Salvatore Giaimo
STATEN ISLAND — Salvatore "Sal" Giaimo of Staten Island and South Gilboa died on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000.
He was the beloved husband of Lena Nee (Valore); devoted father of Mariann Tornabene, Salvatore, Nino, Paola, Antonella and Angelo. He was the loving brother of four; adored grandfather of nine; and a cherished uncle.
Reposing will be at Raccuglia & Son Funeral Home, 530 Narrows Road South, Staten Island, on Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rita Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in Moravian Cemetery.

James C. Ferris
SIDNEY — Mr. James C. Ferris, 86, of Sidney, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at home with his family in attendance.
Jim was born April 19, 1914, in Decatur, the son of James and Rosezetta (Henderson) Ferris.
Jim spent his early years in the East Worcester area and graduated from the East Worcester School in 1932. Upon graduation he worked his way through The Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, graduating in 1935. He was ordained a Baptist minister in 1936. Jim served several small area churches and carried his religious convictions with him throughout his life.
Jim purchased and operated a small farm on Flax Island Road in Otego for several years. In addition to his farming Jim was an accomplished carpenter and electrician.
Upon his retirement, Jim enjoyed gardening at his residence in Cobleskill.
In 1994, Jim moved to Sidney to spend his remaining years near his family.
Jim was predeceased by his son, Paul; his granddaughter, Kathryn; and his special companion, Irene Rivenburgh; in addition to several brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, J. David and Karyn Ferris, Gerald A. and Sharron Ferris and Jon W. and Linda Ferris; and his daughter, Susan A. Patterson. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 30 River St., Otego, with the Rev. Randolph Palada officiating. Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Otego, from noon to 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, when the family will be in attendance. Burial will be in the East Worcester Cemetery, East Worcester, on Monday, Sept. 25, 2000.

Thomas M. Place
NORWICH — Thomas M. Place, 21, of Norwich, died suddenly Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in Glens Falls, following an automobile accident.
He was born May 9, 1979, in Sidney, the son of Larry W. and Loretta A. (Ouimet) Place.
Tom was a student at the State University College at Plattsburgh. He was a 1997 graduate of Unadilla Valley Central High School, New Berlin, where he was a member of the school golf team and school band, as well as a member of the National Honor Society. A lifelong area resident of South New Berlin, he was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church, South New Berlin. He enjoyed many outdoor activities and enjoyed fishing as a pastime.
Tom is survived by his parents, Larry and Loretta Place of Norwich; two brothers, Mark Place of West Oneonta and Craig Place stationed in the U.S. Army at San Antonio, Texas; paternal grandparents, Virginia and Gerald Place of Laurens; and his girlfriend, Ann Thayer of New Berlin. He is also survived by several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Francis and Theresa Ouimet.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at the Laurens Cemetery, Laurens, with the Rev. Charles Taylor, pastor of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, New Berlin, officiating.
There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Unadilla Valley Athletic Association, care of Frank Johnson, Unadilla Valley Central School, 1 School St., New Berlin, N.Y. 13411 in memory of Thomas M. Place.

Irene S. Gerowe
ONEONTA — Irene S. Gerowe, 79, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Fox Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
She was born March 10, 1921, in Davenport Center, the daughter of Frederick and Liddy (Banner) Sloan.
She married Chantry Gerowe on Sept. 7, 1939, in Oneonta.
Mrs. Gerowe was a housewife and a former employee of Bresee's Oneonta Department Store and the Oneonta Nursing Home.
She was a lifelong area resident.
Mrs. Gerowe is survived by her husband at home; two sons and their wives, David and Marilyn Gerowe and Frederick and Jodie Gerowe, all of Oneonta; one daughter, JoEtta Canastra of Chenango Forks; seven grandchildren; a brother, Ernest Sloan of Gilbertsville; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Judy Thistle, Fox Hospital chaplain, officiating. Burial will be in the Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.
The family will be receiving friends two hours before the funeral time at the funeral home.

Robert W. Joslyn
GARDEN CITY BEACH — Robert Wilbur Joslyn, 72, of Jensen's Village, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Born Dec. 16, 1927, in Grand Gorge, N.Y., he was the son of the late Wilbur B. and Mable Dimmick Joslyn.
Mr. Joslyn was a World War II United States Army veteran. He was treasurer with the Grand Gorge Volunteer Fire Department and treasurer with Grand Gorge Methodist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Carol Reynolds Joslyn; son, Robert W. Joslyn and his wife, Sue; daughter, Kim J. McCluski and her husband, Steve; grandchildren, Brad and Ryan McCluski and Sara, Amy and Tucker Joslyn.
Services will be private.

Joseph 'Joe' Grill
GOODYEAR LAKE — Mr. Joseph "Joe" Grill, 92, of Goodyear Lake, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at his beloved lakefront home.
He was born in Nuremberg, Germany, on Feb. 11, 1908, to Johann and Maria Grill.
He emigrated to the United States in 1930.
A structural engineer by training in Germany, he survived the Great Depression by working numerous jobs in New York City.
In 1934, he married Dorothea Best, who survives him. They had lived at their lake home since 1947.
In 1950, he found employment at the Scintilla Plant, and retired from the Electrical Components Division of the Bendix Corp., Sidney, in 1973, as an "A" Tool and Die Maker. An artisan in working with metal, he fabricated many artifacts for his family including small 22-caliber handguns.
With a passion for the game of chess, he was a charter member, president and club champion of the Oneonta Chess Club in the 1970s. He was also an avid bowler and golfer and enjoyed flowers and his vegetable garden.
Years ago, he was affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America as a Cub master.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons and their wives, Mr. and Mrs. Walter J. Grill of DeLancey and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph E. Grill of Keystone Heights, Fla.; his grandchildren, John Grill, Christopher Grill, Mary Cotrell, Pamela Metlicke, Brenda Waters, Jenny Grill and Kristina Grill; eight great-grandchildren; and a sister, Else Fiedler of Germany.
He was a devoted husband and father, and a good friend to many. He will be sorely missed by all.
There will be no calling hours.
Interment will be in Milford Center Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice, Bassett Renal Dialysis Unit, or the Milford Emergency Squad in memory of Joseph "Joe" Grill.
