David J. Little

DELHI — David J. Little, 24, of East Platner Brook, Delhi, died unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000.

He was born July 26, 1976, in Oneonta, the son of Charles and Susan (Wagner) Little.

David resided in Delhi most of his life and graduated from Delaware Academy in 1994. For four years after high school, Dave was employed as a surveyor in Lancaster, S.C. He later joined his father in the operation of Rolling Acres Farm on East Platner Brook.

He is survived by his parents, Charles and Susan Little of Delhi; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jenifer Little of Delhi and Anna Marie and Jerry Hammond of Otego; six brothers and sisters-in-law, Daniel and Kathy Levan of Suddlersville, Md., Anthony Levan of Delhi, Scott and Brenda Little of Delhi, Edward Levan of Delhi, Frank and Sandy Levan of Hamden and Randy Little of Oneonta; his paternal grandmother, Irene Little of Oneonta; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at 1 p.m. at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi, with the Rev. Bert More officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Delhi.

Friends may call at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance between 7 and 9 p.m. on Sunday.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in David's memory to the Delhi Emergency Squad, Delhi, N.Y. 13753.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Girard E. Butler

BAINBRIDGE — "Gerry" Girard E. Butler, 74, of Bainbridge, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, in Syracuse.

Mr. Butler was born in Arkville, the son of the late Girard and the late Grace Votee Butler.

Mr. Butler married Esther Olds on May 5, 1945, in Margaretville.

He served his country in the United States Navy as a photographer.

He was a cook, employed by Homer Folks in Oneonta, and he also ran the feed store for Donley Breeze in Meridale.

Mr. Butler was a member of the United Methodist Church, Bainbridge, a past commander of the American Legion, Bainbridge and Otego, and a devoted cook at the Bainbridge Soup Kitchen.

Mr. Butler loved country music and played the guitar and the banjo in local bands. He also was a square-dance caller, a scoutmaster in Otego and a hunter safety instructor.

He was an avid sportsman and photographer.

He is survived by his wife, Esther Butler of Bainbridge; son, Carlin Butler of Bainbridge; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and John Colburn of Rolling Meadows, Ill.; daughter and son-in-law, Debra and George Sluti of Oneonta; and sister and brother-in-law, Evangeline and William Sprague of Delhi.

He also is survived by six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at C.H. Landers Inc., 21 Main St., Sidney.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church, Bainbridge, with the Rev. Tony Hipes officiating.

Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.

Contributions may be made to American Heart Association Mid State New York Region, 26 South  Washington St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13903 or to the Bainbridge Soup Kitchen, Bainbridge, N.Y.

Mary E. Cornish

MILFORD — Mary E. Cornish, 76, of Milford, died peacefully at her home Friday, Oct. 6, 2000.

Mary was born May 16, 1924, in Charlotteville, N.Y., a daughter of Carl and Lois (McIntyre) Ryder. She attended Charlotte Valley Central School.

She married Howard Cornish on Oct. 21, 1951, in Milford, where they lived and raised their children. After her last child graduated, Mary went to work as a cafeteria aid in the Milford Central School.

Mary's main interests were her husband, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed dining out, going for rides and visiting the elderly at The Meadows.

She was one of the last original members of the Milford Presbyterian Church. She was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, a former member of the Milford Fire Department Auxiliary, a former member of the Milford Presbyterian Ladies Aid Society, the Early Birds Bowling League and the Milford Senior Citizens.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Howard, of Milford; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Carol and Larry Kessler of Milford, Kathy and Dave Yager of Oneonta and Janice Eichler of Maryland; a son, Brian Cornish, and Maria Carr; seven grandchildren, Tim and Nathan Kessler, Becky Ashe, Gary, Graig and Garth Eichler and Holly Ganio; eight grandchildren; six sisters-in-law, Phyllis Mead, Betty Cornish, Esther and Willard Douglas, Jeri and Bob Houlihan, Joyce and Wendell Stockholm, and JoAnn Vass; several nieces and nephews; and a loving friend, Larry Eichler.

She was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Mead.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at 2 p.m. at the Milford United Methodist Church in Milford with the Rev. Betsy Del Giacco, former pastor of the Milford Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Calling hours will be held Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Milford, when the family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to the Milford Fire Department; the Milford Emergency Squad; or to the American Cancer Society, Otsego County Unit, 41 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Home, Cooperstown and Milford.

John T. Walker

TREADWELL — John T. Walker Sr., 69, of Treadwell, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Oct. 4, 1931, in Patterson, N.J., a son of John and Beatrice (Kayser) Walker.

He married Gloria Liotard on May 18, 1952, in Patterson, N.J.

A graduate of Eastside High School in Patterson, N.J., he was an organist for Woodbridge Presbyterian Church and also played at the Demarest Baptist Church.

He worked for M.E. Miller Co. in Ridgewood, N.J., retiring and moving to Treadwell from Gloster, N.J., in 1997.

He enjoyed gardening, cooking and model trains.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria Walker, of Treadwell; a daughter, Beatrice Mooney, of Treadwell; three sons, John T. Walker Jr. of New York state, Thomas Walker of Tennessee and Robert Walker of New York state; a brother, Harold Walker; and six grandchildren, Christopher, Erin and Sean Mooney and John, Michael and Richard Walker.

There will be a memorial service at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, at the First Presbyterian Church, Delhi, with the Rev. Arvid Whitmore officiating.

Burial will be private.

Calling hours will be held from 3 p.m. until service time at the church.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the organ fund at the First Presbyterian Church or the Treadwell Rescue Squad.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Parker L. Utter

ONEONTA — Parker L. Utter, 92, of 18 Chester St., Oneonta, and formerly of Stamford died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, with his family at his bedside at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

He was born Oct. 7, 1908, at  Johnson Hollow, Prattsville, the son of Chester and Mabel (Ives) Utter.

Parker married Julia Manchester on April 4, 1934, in Hobart. Julia died Sept. 12, 1972. On Jan. 31, 1976, he married Emily Thorpe Andrus in Oneonta. Emily died Feb. 27, 1996.

Parker had lived in Oneonta since 1976, having resided most of his life in Stamford where he owned and operated a dairy farm.

He graduated from Stamford Seminary and in 1929 graduated from the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Delhi.

He was an avid golfer and bowler. Parker was a lifetime member of the Stamford Golf Club, where for many years he was superintendent and greenskeeper.

He had a devoted love for his family.

Years back Parker played baseball for the Stamford Town Team. He was a member of the Oneonta Eagles, the Sixth Ward Athletic Club, the former Hobart Lodge I.O.O.F., Stamford, the town of Harpersfield Board of Trustees for 12 years, and a member and past president of the Stamford Cemetery Association.

He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Russell Germond of Gilboa and Shelia and Herbert Gifford of Stamford; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Regina Utter of Madisonville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Brenda and George Kephart of Scotia, Denise Hart of Oswego, Barry and Colleen Germond of Litchfield, N.H., Michael, Melissa and Amanda Utter of Madisonville, Tenn., James and Cheryl Utter of Hemstead, and Terry Jean Gifford of Albany; great-grandchildren, Nicole Luskin of Scotia, Tyler Germond of Litchfield, N.H., Lyndsea Hart of Oswego and Jaron Parker Kephart of Scotia; sisters and brother-in-law, Lillian Oliver of Albany and Gladys and Charles Van Wif of Painted Post; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Mary Utter of Delhi. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a son, James; a brother, Kenneth; and a granddaughter, Andrea.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Stephen Herring, pastor, officiating.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford, on Tuesday afternoon and evening at their convenience. The family will be in attendance between 2 and 4 and 7 and 9 p.m.

Burial will be in the Stamford Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Parker's memory to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford-Grand Gorge.

Evelyn Craft

BLOOMVILLE — Evelyn Craft, 88, formerly of Bloomville died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at Delaware County Countryside Care in Delhi.

She was born June 14, 1912, in Bloomville, the daughter of Douglas and Nettie (Kinch) Cameron.

She was married to the late Harry R. Craft. He died March 29, 1956.

A lifelong area resident, she belonged to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Bloomville, and the Delhi Quilting Club.

Two sons and their wives, Donald and Sandy Craft of Bloomville and Robert and Joyce Craft of Florida; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren survive Mrs. Craft.

Three sons, Douglas, Arthur and Walter; and a grandson, Harry D. Craft, predeceased her.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Bloomville, with Fr. Shaw Mudge officiating. Calling hours will be Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery, Bloomville.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the Delhi Emergency Squad.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Ruth C. Holmes

DECATUR — Ruth C. Holmes, 93, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000, at the Oneonta Nursing Home.

She was born Nov. 25, 1906, in Decatur, the daughter of Fred and Zua (Day) Clark.

She married W. Percy Holmes on Oct. 18, 1933, in Decatur. He died Jan. 25, 1991.

Mrs. Holmes went to school in a one-room school house and then graduated from Worcester High School. She continued her education at the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill. After graduation she taught in a one-room school house at District No. 5 in Decatur and then at District No. 10 in Westford.

Mr. and Mrs. Holmes bought the "Clark Farm" in Decatur and worked it until their retirement in September 1971, when they sold the farm to Jerry and Pat Sawyer and moved to Westford.

She was a member of the Decatur Methodist Church, the Worcester Grange No. 1274 and a member and past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 138 in Schenevus.

She is survived by two nieces, Mrs. Charles (Shirley) Brower of Stamford and Mrs. Herbert (Jean) Siems of Oneonta; a nephew, Robert Benson of Decatur; and several cousins and special friends, Jerry and Pat Sawyer of Decatur and their sons, Jeremy and James.

Calling hours will be held at the E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel in Worcester on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2000, from 12:30 p.m. to the funeral service time at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, chaplain at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta, officiating.

An Order of the Eastern Star service will be held just before the funeral service.

Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery in Worcester.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Mrs. Holmes' to the Worcester Grange No. 1274, care of Roger All, 1545 Route 39, Worcester, N.Y. 12197.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.

Ethel M. Manti

SCHENECTADY — Services will be held for Ethel M. Manti, 78, of Kings Road, Schenectady, who died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at home after a long illness.

Born in Venice Center, Mrs. Manti was a receptionist for the office of Dr. Seymour Resnick on Union Street in Schenectady for more than 20 years.

She was a member of the "Gem" Classic bowling league, where she was the secretary for over 25 years and received the superior performance award in the duties of her office as secretary in 1988-1989.

She was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church, where she was a former officer in St. Paul's seniors and rosary society.

Survivors include her husband, Patrick M. Manti, whom she married June 12, 1942; two sons, Martin P. Manti of Saratoga Springs and Patrick C. Manti of Glenville; two daughters, Christine Cain of Valatie and Carma Hilicus of Schenectady; and one sister, Dorothy Burgman of Genoa. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Lara M. Manti, Anthony J. Manti, Jill M. Manti, Sara Cain, Patrick Cain, Kristen Hilicus and Katie Hilicus.

Funeral services will be held at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday at Griswold Funeral Home, 1867 State St.; thence to the Church of St. Paul the Apostle, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m.

Calling hours, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be held today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Community Hospice of Schenectady, 1411 Union St., Schenectady, N.Y. 12308.

Cecil Peterson Jr.

SIDNEY — Cecil M. Peterson Jr., 70, of Sidney died Friday, Oct. 6, 2000, in Binghamton.

Mr. Peterson was born in Walton, the son of Cecil and Dorothy Darling Peterson Sr. Mr. Peterson's father predeceased him.

He served his country in the United States Navy. He was a real estate broker, employed by Gregory Realty, Unadilla, when he retired.

He is survived by his wife, Ann (Niles) Peterson of Sidney; mother, Dorothy Peterson of Oxford; son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Suzanne Peterson of Bridgewater, Mass.; brother and sister-in-law, Nelson and Marjorie Peterson of Unadilla; brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Ramona Peterson of Unadilla; sister and brother-in-law, Wilburna and Everett Budine of Walton; three grandsons, Connor, Cameron and Carter Peterson; and several nieces and nephews.

Services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad, River Street, Sidney, N.Y. 13838.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.
