Wahneta Ritchey

UNADILLA — Wahneta M. Ritchey, 66, of Unadilla died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at The Hospital, Sidney.

She was born April 6, 1934, in Afton, the daughter of the late Roy and Mildred (Burdick) Knapp.

She was married to J. Lyle Ritchey on Dec. 18, 1953, in Oneonta.

She was a graduate of Sidney Central School, Class of 1953, and has been a 42-year resident of Unadilla, and a member of the Unadilla Baptist Church.

Wahneta is survived by her husband, J. Lyle Ritchey of Unadilla; two sons, Thomas Ritchey of Plymouth and William Ritchey of Unadilla; special friend "daughter," Donna and Chet French of Unadilla; two granddaughters, Carrie and Jodie Ritchey of Sidney; also two sisters; a brother; in-laws; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla, with the Rev. Brian R. Cutting, pastor of the Unadilla Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday, Nov. 14, at their convenience. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Unadilla Emergency Squad.

Funeral arrangements are by the Westcott Funeral Home, Unadilla.

Joan L. Bush

HARTWICK — Mrs. Joan L. Bush, 59, of West Main Street, Hartwick, died early Sunday morning, Nov. 12, 2000, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

She was born on April 11, 1941, in Hartwick, a daughter of Norma Bunt Raimo.

She married Wayne K. Bush Sr. on June 12, 1960, in the Hartwick Baptist Church.

A lifelong resident of Hartwick, Joan first attended Hartwick schools and graduated from Cooperstown High School in 1959.

She became employed for the next four years by the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital as a nurse's aide and then was employed by the Oneonta/Cobleskill Dress Company for four years. Returning to the nursing field, she spent the next 14 years employed as a nurse's aide at the Oneonta Nursing Home. In 1985, she left the nursing home and spent the rest of her life caring for her family.

Joan was a member of the Leatherstocking Riding Club and the Cherry Valley Carriage Association.

A devoted Hartwick resident, she was a member and former treasurer of the Hartwick Days Committee and was instrumental in erecting the pavilion by the Hartwick ball field.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, as well as taking wagon rides, collecting porcelain dolls and owls and figurines for the flower garden around her house.

Joan is survived by her husband of 40 years, Wayne K. Bush Sr. of Hartwick; two daughters, Toni Griffith and her husband, John, and their daughters, Kayla and Johnelle, all of Hartwick, and Kim Stahl and her husband, Dwayne, and their sons, Kenny and Wade, all of Garrattsville; one son, Wayne K. Bush Jr. and his wife, Robin, and their children, Joshua and Gabrielle, all of Hartwick; one sister, Mrs. Patricia Anderson of Granby, Mass., and her family; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joan was predeceased by her mother, Norma B. Raimo, who died May 7, 1982, and a brother, Stephen C. Raimo, who died Oct. 15, 1989.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, in the Hartwick Cemetery, with the Rev. Douglas S. Burleigh, pastoral care coordinator for Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, officiating.

Immediately following the committal service, those in attendance may gather at the Hartwick Fire Hall for a time of refreshment and remembrance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to either the Hartwick Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 208, Hartwick, N.Y. 13348-0208 or the Laurens Emergency Squad, Laurens, N.Y. 13796.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Sylvia M. Gadbois

WETHERSFIELD, Conn. — Sylvia M. (Saccaro) Gadbois, 66, of Wethersfield, Conn., died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000.

She was born in Stamford, N.Y., daughter of the late Ernest and Constance (Bassani) Saccaro, and lived in Wethersfield for 16 years.

Sylvia worked at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center for more than 20 years and was an EMT with the Wethersfield Volunteer Ambulance Association.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Mark A. and Mary F. Gadbois of Brentwood,  Calif., Steven J. Gadbois of Naperville, Ill., and Jeffrey T. Gadbois of Wethersfield; her daughter, Debra J. Gadbois of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; her brothers, Ernest J. and Donald I. Saccaro, both of Stamford, N.Y.; her sister, Constance S. Mangini of West Hartford, Conn.; and her grandson, Alexander M. Gadbois.

She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend and will be greatly missed by all.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at 5 p.m. at the D'Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. Calling hours were also Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m.

Leonard Mirtallo

STAMFORD — Leonard Mirtallo, 76, of 12 Liberty St., Stamford, died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 29, 1923, in Brooklyn, the son of Charles and Mary (Rosasco) Mirtallo.

Len was married to Betty L. Clapper on Aug. 13, 1949, in Stamford. Betty died Sept. 4, 1984.

Len was a resident of Stamford most of his life. He graduated from Stamford Central School and was a member of a championship basketball team in his last year of school.

Len was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II .

For more than 25 years, he owned and operated Mirtallo's Service Station in Stamford.

Len was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, the Lt. Harry Pruden Jr. VFW Post in Stamford, the Stamford Golf Club, and in his early years played baseball for the Stamford Blue Jays Town Team. He was an avid sports fan.

Survivors include his daughters, Jayne Mirtallo Tait of Stamford and Marilyn Hughes Annechiarico of Pompano Beach, Fla.; sons and daughter-in-law, John Mirtallo of Watervliet, James Mirtallo of Oneonta and Jay and Susan Ezzone Mirtallo of Columbus, Ohio; grandchildren, Martin, Amy, Meg, Mary, Jennifer, Jessica, Karissa,  Taylor and Nathan; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Jana and Javin; sisters, Viola Bernardiener of Lakehurst, N.J. and Louise Goldiner of Tallahassee, Fla.; a brother, Arthur Mirtallo of Greenwich Village; and several nieces and nephews.

Len was predeceased by a brother, Charles Mirtallo.

A Funeral Mass will be offered 10 .m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at the Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, presiding. The burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford. Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, 142 W. Main St., Stamford at their convenience Tuesday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance between 7 and 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Len's memory to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford-Grand Gorge.

William McRedmond

DELHI — William J. "Bill" McRedmond, a 50-year Delhi resident, died Sunday morning, Nov. 12, 2000, at his home following an extended illness.

The son of William A. and Frances E. (Mido) McRedmond, he was born June 12, 1933, in New York City.

As a teen-ager, Bill came to Delhi where he received his education at Delaware Academy, subsequently enlisting in the U.S. Navy and becoming a veteran of the Korean Era. After military service, he married Doris A. Cantwell on Oct. 20, 1956, in Delhi.

Bill was a devoted family man. His family was his primary interest in life and he greatly enjoyed cooking and caring for the needs of his family and home. Until his retirement in 1956, he had been employed most of his life as a truck driver for the Teamsters Union.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Doris A. McRedmond at home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John McRedmond, Walnut Creek,  Calif., and Robert and Carol McRedmond, Wilmington, Del.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Thomas O'Dowd, Anna and Michael Mason and Mary and Douglas Rosa, all of Delhi; eight grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances and William Alt, Lookout Mountain, Tenn., and Katherine and Edward Leal, Hixon, Tenn.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation is private for the family.

Friends are invited to attend funeral services at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Hall & Peet Funeral Home, Delhi. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Joseph Manerowski, pastor of St. Peter's RC Church. Burial will follow in the Woodland Cemetery, where military honors will be given by Donald W. Gleason Post 190, American Legion, of which Bill was a longtime active member.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice or Post 190 American Legion, Delhi.

Arrangements are entrusted to Robert A. Peet, Delhi.

Andrew Madaras

SCHUYLER LAKE — Andrew Madaras, 74, of Main Street, died on Sunday morning, Nov. 12, 2000, in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Syracuse.

He was born on Jan. 16, 1926, in the town of Richfield, son of the late Constantine and Mary Hyrnko Madaras.

A lifelong area resident, he was a graduate of Richfield Springs High School.

During World War II he served with the U.S. Air Force 30th Bomb Squadron in Japan. He was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal on Jan. 28, 1949.

Since 1961, he has resided in Schuyler Lake.

On Jan. 14, 1970, he married Starr Hext in the First United Church, Herkimer. The Rev. Merle Brown officiated.

For 33 years he worked as an inspector for the Chicago Pneumatic Co., Utica.

He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, East Herkimer, and the Schuyler Lake Lodge #152 F&AM.

Surviving besides his loving wife of 30 years, Starr; are two sons, Andrew Madaras and his wife, Melisa, and Brant Madaras and his fiancee, Carol, all of Richfield Springs; three brothers, Michael Madaras of Utica, Harry and his wife, Beatty Madaras, of Sauquoit and Frank and his wife, Elenor Madaras, of Richfield Springs; a sister, Eva Edick of Ilion; one granddaughter, Jamie Madaras; two stepgrandchildren, Maanda and Nicole (Jenske) Scanlon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Daniel Madaras; and four sisters, Anna Knowles, Marta Brelinsky, Olga Nickoles and Mary French.

A funeral service will be on Wednesday at 9 a.m. in Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church, East Herkimer, with the Very Rev. James M. Jadick officiating.

Interment will follow in Schuyler Lake Cemetery. The family will be present in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs, to receive relatives and friends Tuesday evening, from 7 to 9 p.m. Parastas will be said at 8 p.m. that evening.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sts. Peter & Paul Orthodox Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.

Jack Lennebacker

MIDDLEFIELD — Mr. Jack D. Lennebacker, 65, a 40-year resident of Middlefield, passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at his residence.

He was born May 11, 1935, in Ilion, the son of Douglas and Mary Lennebacker.

On Aug. 13, 1960, he married Anne E. Dubben in Cherry Valley.

He was a 1952 graduate of Cooperstown Central School and a 1953 graduate of the Utica School of Commerce.

Jack was an active and respected member of the greater-Cooperstown community. His professional endeavors included 14 years of service with the Freeman's Journal and 19 years of employment with the First American Bank, retiring from banking in 1990.

After his retirement, he continued to work seven more years with his wife and the youth of our community at the Cherry Valley-Springfield School District, including several years with the drama club.

Jack always loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed music, theater, traveling, camping and boating on Otsego Lake.

Jack, a loving husband and caring family man, is survived by his wife, Anne E. Lennebacker of Middlefield; a daughter, Pamela Dusharm, and her husband, Darren, of Hudson; a son, Kevin, and his wife, Kathi, of Cobleskill; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Carol Lennebacker of Altamont; a brother-in-law, Sam, and his wife, Marge Dubben, of Middlefield; mother- and father-in-law, Floyd and Virginia Dubben of Middlefield; one grandchild, Danielle Dusharm of Hudson; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 11 a.m. in the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Ron Fralick officiating. Burial will take place in the Fly Creek Cemetery at a later date.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

Contributions in Jack's memory may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation or the Middlefield First Responders.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.

William McRedmond

DELHI — William J. "Bill" McRedmond, 67, a 50-year Delhi resident, died Sunday morning, Nov. 12, 2000, at his home following an extended illness.

J. Victor Rezen

MIDDLEFIELD — J. Victor Rezen, 86, of Middlefield, died at his home on Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, with his family at his side.

Victor was born on Sept. 16, 1914, in Minden Mines, Mo., a son of John and Ida (Dollar) Rezen.

Victor attended schools in the Springfield, Ill., area and has lived in the Middlefield area for the past 65 years.

He married D. Angelia Knapp on Jan. 27, 1939.

Victor owned and operated his own farm for many years until his retirement.

Victor served 28 years as Middlefield justice of the peace and was a member of the New York State Magistrates Association. He also served on the Middlefield Town Board.

Victor enjoyed playing the organ and had an interest in investing in the stock market.

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Angelia Rezen of Middlefield; two daughters, Nancy Erway of Middlefield and Susan Rezen of Holden, Mass.; a brother, Paul Rezen of Hartwick; two sisters, Ida Lee of Cooperstown and Evelyn Spencer of Philadelphia, Pa.; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with the Rev. Ron Fralick, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Cherry Valley, officiating. A private burial will follow at the Woodland Cemetery in Delhi.

At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial contributions may be made to the Middlefield Fire Department and Emergency Squad, care of Kevin Preston at 3539 County Highway 35, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Douglas Ferguson

INGLEWOOD,  Calif. — Douglas C. Ferguson, 65, died unexpectedly at his home of natural causes on Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000.

He was born in Schuyler Lake, N.Y., on Dec. 10, 1934.

He married Louene Fery on Sept. 5, 1959, in Inglewood,  Calif.

He grew up in Oneonta, N.Y., and attended Oneonta schools.

He moved to California 45 years ago, where he worked as a machinist until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Louene; a daughter, Kimberly Ferguson; two sons, Douglas Ferguson Jr. and Steven Ferguson and his wife, Tori; four grandchildren, Chris, Bailee, Miranda and Alexandra; his mother and stepfather, George and Marion Starr of Cooperstown and Florida; his sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Herbert Blanchard of Oneonta, N.Y.; three half brothers, Dennis, Rick and John Ferguson of Oneonta; three nieces, Laurie Jennings, Linda Perry and Diane Perry-Pleban of Oneonta; a nephew, Michael Perry of Otego, N.Y.; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

His father, Dormon D. Ferguson, of Oneonta; and a daughter-in-law, Paula Ferguson, predeceased him.

Mass and burial was held at Holy Cross Mortuary in Culver City,  Calif., on Nov. 4, 2000.
