Anna E. Johnson

INTERCESSION, Fla. — Anna E. Johnson, 92, of Intercession, Fla., and formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., died on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Good Samaritan Healthcare Center in Kissimmee, Fla.

She was born in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of the late Leonard and Mary Ann Miller Johnson.

She is survived by sister-in-law, Helen  Johnson of Florida; a nephew, Mr. Stephen (Irene)  Johnson of Oneonta; a niece, Sharon (Roger) VanLaningham of Florida; and several grand- and great-grandnieces and -nephews.

Miss  Johnson came to Oneonta in 1918 and continued as a resident until moving to Florida later in her years.

She was employed with her brother, Harry Johnson, at the Dauly & Wright Monument Co. in Oneonta as a bookkeeper for many years.

She was a member of the Assembly of God Church of Oneonta and attended the Wesleyan Church of Oneonta.

Services will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.

Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta.

Ella B. Johnston

ONEONTA — Ella B. Johnston, 79, of Oneonta, died after a lengthy illness on Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.

She was born Aug. 20, 1921, in Camaguay, Cuba, the daughter of Henry and Edith May (Leach) Burnside.

She married Clarence Johnston on Jan. 8, 1955, in Oneonta.

Mrs. Johnston had been employed at Richards Dress Co. in her earlier years. She and her husband owned and operated Johnston's Store, Restaurant and Soda Fountain on Chestnut Street in Oneonta until 1969.

She was a longtime Oneonta-area resident.

Mrs. Johnston is survived by her husband at home and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

She was predeceased by a brother and three sisters, John, Lillian, Ruth and Rosetta.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2000, at Plains Cemetery in Oneonta, with the Rev. John D. Greiner, pastor of the Oneonta Assembly of God Church, officiating.

There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements are by Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Laura Gilchrist

BENNINGTON, Vt. — Laura Ward Hathaway Gilchrist of Bennington, Vt., died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at the Bennington, Vermont, Rehabilitation Hospital.

She was born Sept. 26, 1911, in Oneonta, N.Y., the daughter of Lynn Wallace Hathaway and Helen F. Ward Hathaway.

She married Clement P. Gilchrist in the Episcopal Church in Gilbertsville in 1942. They lived in Schenectady, N.Y., then moved to Arlington, Vt., and finally built a house in Bennington and lived there until now.

Laura graduated from Oneonta High School and the Oneonta State Normal School. She taught in elementary schools in Schenectady, South Orange, N.J., Bennington and Hoosick Falls, where she retired.

Laura is survived by her sister, Helen Grandsburry; half-sisters, Ruth Glazer, Donna Robinson and Marjorie Hathaway; and one half-brother, John; nephews, Lynn Card and Robert Hathaway; nieces, Linda Hathaway Morris and Martha Hathaway; and several nephews and nieces of her half-brothers and sisters.

She was predeceased by her father and mother; sister, Charlotte Card; brother, Lynn Ward; half-brothers, Robert and Walter; and her husband, Clement, who died in 1970 in Florida.

Laura arranged for a private funeral in Bennington.

Donations in her name may be made to the Episcopal Church in Bennington, Vt., or the Major's Inn, Gilbertsville, N.Y.

Ralph D. Brundage

PHOENIX, Ariz. — Ralph D. "Denny" Brundage, 50, of Phoenix, Ariz., and formerly of Sidney and Walton, N.Y., died unexpectedly at House of Faith on Monday, Nov. 13, 2000.

He was born on March 26, 1950, in Walton, the son of Ralph E. and Dorothy I. (Allen) Brundage.

Denny served his country in the United States Navy. He was employed for many years at Amphenol Corp., Sidney.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Shakari and Brian Wood of Walton; a son, Zackery "Cory" Brundage of  South Carolina; father and stepmother, Ralph and LaVonne "Bonnie" Brundage of New Berlin; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Georgeen and Ken Hanson, of Walton, Carolee Moore of Massachusetts, June and Mark Davis of California and Rain and Rich Sarrantonio of Walton; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Cher Brundage of Rockdale; stepsister, Donna Hall of Norwich; two stepbrothers, Dennis Macdonald of Fabius and David Macdonald of New Berlin; two grandchildren, Corbin and Rylee; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

His mother, Dorothy Brundage; sister, Mary Hawkins; and brother, Wayne Brundage, predeceased Denny.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Mike Rowe, pastor of the Baptist Church, Harpursville, N.Y., officiating. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Walton Cemetery, Walton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the HD Society of America, 158 W. 29th Street, Seventh Floor, New York, N.Y. 10001-5300.

Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Maureen C. Ryan

HOBART — Maureen C. Ryan, 59, of Hobart, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at home.

She was born May 11, 1941, in New York City, the daughter of Frank and Marie (Butler) Smith.

She married Patrick Ryan on Dec. 12, 1976, in New York City. He survives, as do a son, Colm, at home; a cousin, Vera Butler of Stamford; and an uncle and aunt, Jim and Eleanor Murphy of New Jersey; and 26 nieces and nephews.

Maureen joined the New York City Police Department in 1969 and retired in 1982, as a detective. She was an active member of the Detective Endowment Association of New York City; Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Stamford; a member and officer of SCO at South Kortright Central School, where she was instrumental in many of the activities of the organization; and Stamford-Hobart Inner Wheel, where she had served as president, 1999-2000. Mrs. Ryan was very active as an organizer and supporter of many SKCS activities, sporting events and arts presentations.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Stamford, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula as celebrant. Calling hours will be on Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 15 and 16, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Stamford.

Contributions in her memory may be made to Smith/Ryan Charitable Trust, attention Evelyn Goodspeed, NBT, P.O. Box H, Hobart, N.Y., 13788.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.

Robert B. Harvey

HARTWICK — Robert B. Harvey, 77, of Hartwick, and formerly of Oneonta and Zephyrhills, Fla., died unexpectedly Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born Oct. 8, 1923, in Eaton, the son of Harry and Beatrice (Eccelston) Harvey.

He married Mary Davis on July 1, 1950.

He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II.

Mr. Harvey was the former superintendent of the  Jefferson Central School, having retired in 1979, and formerly taught history and math in both Charlotte Valley and Sidney high schools.

He was a lifelong area resident and was a member of the St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Zephyrhills, Fla., and a former member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, the Knights of Columbus, the Stamford Rotary International and the East Meredith Fire Department.

Mr. Harvey and his wife moved to Florida in 1979 and returned last year to live with their daughter in Hartwick.

Mr. Harvey is survived by his wife at home; one son, Craig Harvey of Oneonta; a daughter, Mrs. William (Charle) Carentz of Hartwick; nine grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Matt Mason, Nate Morgan, Lindsay Harvey, Luke Harvey, Jordan Harvey, Landry Rubino, William and his wife, Candice Carentz, Heather Carentz and Nathan Carentz; two great-grandchildren, Ben and Trentin Carentz; one sister, Vivian, and her husband, Sherm VanDeuser, of Cortland; four brothers, Dale Harvey of Florida, Rowland and wife, Mary, William and wife, Mabell, and Durwood and wife, Nancy Harvey, all of Oxford; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

He was predeceased by a grandson, Robert Harvey, and a sister, Thelma Horton.

A memorial service will be held at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, at the Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, 51 Dietz St., Oneonta. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home two hours prior to service time. Burial will be later in Plains Cemetery, Oneonta.

Those who wish may make contributions to the Hartwick Emergency Squad, Hartwick, N.Y. 13348.

Arrangements are by Lewis-Hurley Funeral Home, Oneonta.

Reta Martha Hull

ALBANY — Reta Martha Hull, 79, of 8 William Court, Albany, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at St. Peters Hospital, Albany.

She was born Sept. 1, 1921, in Lexington, the daughter of Levi Howard and Elsie Plankenhorn.

She married Theodore "Ted" Hull on Jan. 15, 1943, in Cooperstown.

She graduated from Grand Gorge Central School and Austin Beauty School in Albany. She was a homemaker and a receptionist in a doctor's office in Potsdam.

In 1961, Reta moved to Albany from Potsdam. She also lived in Cooperstown.

She was a member of Fort Orange AARP #1593, Bethany Reformed Church, Albany, Albany Christian Women's Club and a former member of Loudonville Arts and Craft Club.

Reta is survived by her husband, Ted Hull of Albany; one brother, Marvin Howard of Davenport Center; four nieces, Barbara Howard, Shirley Riddle, Cora Lee Alexander and Marilyn Got; two nephews, Charles Howard and Mark Howard; and grandnieces and -nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Orlin and Lyle Howard.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at the United Methodist Church, Prattsville, with the Rev. Ellen Oliveto officiating. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Prattsville.

Calling hours will be held Thursday, Nov. 16, 2000, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Bethany Reformed Church, 760 New Scotland Ave., Albany, and also after 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury. The family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Contributions may be made in memory of Reta Hull to the Community Hospice of Albany, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany.

Funeral arrangements are by Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.

Ward H. Streeter

GRAND GORGE — Ward H. "Skip" Streeter, 81, formerly of Grand Gorge, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at the residence of his daughter in Stone Ridge.

He was born March 17, 1919, in Amsterdam, the son of Roy A. and Elizabeth (Willard) Streeter. He married Margaret C. Herz on June 30, 1946, in New York City.

Skip was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II and for many years owned and operated the Village Square Diner in Grand Gorge.

He was a member of the St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church in Grand Gorge and, for several years, a member of the Grand Gorge Fire Department and the Earl B. Dudley American Legion Post in Grand Gorge.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Streeter of Stone Ridge; a daughter and son-in-law, Gail Hilsenbeck Many and John Many of Stone Ridge; and his grandsons, Christopher and Jordan Hilsenbeck of San Francisco,  Calif., and Tyler Hilsenbeck of Stone Ridge. He also is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be offered 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at St. Philip Neri Church, Grand Gorge, with the Rev. Joseph Cebula, pastor, presiding. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery at Grand Gorge.

Friends may call at the Hall Funeral Home, Main Street, Grand Gorge, at their convenience on Friday afternoon and evening. The family will be in attendance on Friday between 2 and 4 p.m. and 7 and 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may be made in Skip's memory to the Grand Gorge Fire Department, Main Street, Grand Gorge, N.Y. 12434.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford and Grand Gorge.

Rosemary L. Neacy

ROCKVILLE CENTRE — Rosemary L. Neacy, of Ocala, Fla., and a native of Rockville Centre, has passed away.

She was a retired assistant vice president of EAB Bank.

She is the beloved wife of Charles P. Jr.; devoted mother of Joseph W., Sean P., Kevin M., Megan M. Riordan and the late Janet M.; and loving sister of Barbara Kiesling and Joanne Schultz. She also is survived by five grandchildren.

Mrs. Neacy owned a home in Westford for 18 years.

A funeral Mass will be held Monday, Nov. 21, at 10 a.m. at St. Agnes Cathedral, Rockville Centre. Interment will be held in the Long Island National Cemetery.

Donald B. Strobel

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Donald Byron Strobel of Las Vegas, Nev., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000.

He was born Feb. 17, 1941, son of Byron and Florence Strobel.

Don is survived by his stepfather, Maurice Wilber of Morris, N.Y.; children, Christine Strobel, Dana Strobel and Whitney Strobel of Norwich, N.Y.; brothers, Sarg Strobel of Norwich, David Wilber of Oneonta, N.Y., and Terry Wilber of Unadilla, N.Y.; and sister, Susan Fountas of Florida.

Don graduated from Morris Central School, where he was an outstanding basketball player.

Don was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He loved camping and traveling to various places in New York.

Don was an active member of the Elk's Lodge #2353.

His smile and laughter will always be in our memories.

Funeral arrangements are with Johnston Funeral Home, Morris.

Rollin L. Judd Sr.

WORCESTER — Rollin L. "Skeets" Judd Sr. passed away Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, at home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.

He was born July 7, 1923, in Waterbury, Conn., the son of LeRoy A. "Roy" and Gladys (Roe) Judd.

He married Mary I. Wilson on Oct. 17, 1946, in Oneonta.

Rollin grew up in Worcester and was then a resident of Hinmanville for 28 years. In 1982, he and his wife moved back to Worcester for the summers and spent the winters in Florida. In 1995, they permanently moved to Worcester.

Rollin joined the CCC. He then enlisted with the United States Navy, serving in World War II and attained the rank of seaman first class.

Rollin was a truck driver for many years. His last employment was with Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Syracuse, retiring in 1974.

He attended the Second Baptist Church in Worcester. He was a member of the Worcester American Legion Post 1584, the Schenevus VFW Post 2752, the NRA, Local No. 317 Teamsters Union and a life member of the DAV.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary I. Judd of Worcester; children, Linda J. Kellogg of Hinmanville, Rollin L. Judd Jr. and his wife, Deborah, of Fulton and Steven R. Judd and his wife, Patricia, of Camden, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert A. Judd, and his wife, Helen, of South Hannibal; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Teresa J. Hood, and a sister, Theresa Judd.

Calling hours will be held Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at the E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel in Worcester from 2 p.m. to the funeral service time at 4 p.m. The Rev. Judith A. Thistle, pastor of the Second Baptist Church, will officiate and be assisted by Pastor Jeffrey Stonecipher, Rollin's nephew.

At Rollin's request, he will then be cremated and there will be a private committal service at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Rollin to the Worcester Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 191, Worcester, N.Y. 12197 or Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.
