Daryl W. Young

GILBOA — Daryl W. Young, 43, passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at Albany Medical Center following a strong and courageous three-year battle with silicosis.

Daryl was born March 22, 1957, in Stamford Hospital, the son of Helen Young and Moses Gideon Young.

Daryl graduated from the Gilboa-Conesville Central School in 1975, after which he began a career in the field of construction. He was very knowledgeable and experienced in many aspects of the field as a result of diversified employment, including tunnel construction in  Washington, D.C. Through the years, Daryl had been employed by various companies, finally finding a home with Metzger Construction of Wappingers Falls, where he had been a dedicated employee for the past 12 years.

Upon his passing, Daryl is survived by three children, Jason, Jennifer and Amanda, and his granddaughter Destiny, all of Gilboa. He is also survived by four brothers, Gary, Dewey, Mark and Steve of Gilboa; two sisters, Barbara Risley of Delanson and Patricia Le Viness of Evans, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews.

Daryl was dearly loved by family and friends and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

In Daryl's memory, donations may be made to the Conesville Rescue Squad, Gilboa, N.Y., in lieu of flowers.

Friends may call at the William A. Tari Funeral Home, 40 Main St. (corner of Liberty Street), Stamford, on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, from 1 to 3 p.m. Services will follow immediately at 3 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Martha Vink officiating.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hall Funeral Home, Stamford, under the direction of William A. Tari.

Clayton L. Davis

SIDNEY — Clayton L. Davis, 85, of Sidney died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Lourdes Hospital, Binghamton.

He was born Sept. 19, 1915, in Colchester, son of the late George Perry and Mary Ann York Davis.

Clayton served his country in the United States Army from 1944 to 1945.

He married Ethel Fletcher. She predeceased Clayton.

Clayton later married Edna Gill on Dec. 12, 1970, in Sidney Center.

He was a carpenter by trade and worked for many people in the area.

Clayton was a member of the VFW Post 7914, Sidney.

He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Edna J. Davis of Sidney; his daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Joseph Schlinker of Boonville, Ark.; stepsons and daughters; and several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Two sons, Raymond and Gerald Davis, also predeceased him.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 2 p.m.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral chapel.

Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Sidney, in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 57 Front St., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905-4797.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Roscoe E. Conklin

MOUNT VISION — Roscoe E. Conklin, 81, of Mount Vision, died Sunday morning, Feb. 25, 2001, at the Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown.

He was born on Aug. 8, 1919, in the town of New Lisbon, a son of Flave and Pearl (Hall) Conklin.

He married Rubie A. Sergent on May 17, 1937, in Hartwick. Mrs. Conklin died on July 17, 1995.

Roscoe was raised in the Hartwick area and graduated from the Hartwick High School. Following graduation he worked for his father-in-law, Thurlow M. Sergent, on the family farm and was later employed by the Meridale Milk Company.

Throughout the years Roscoe held various positions in the town of Hartwick, including town justice and highwayman for the Highway Department, where he remembers driving one of the Linn Halftracs. He also served his community as a member of the Hartwick High School Board of Education and as postmaster. In later years, he was employed as the office manager for Gilbert Lake State Park, a position he held for 20 years. Upon his retirement, he moved to Mount Vision.

A lifelong, active member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwick, he served in many capacities, including that of deacon. He was a founding member of the Hartwick Emergency Squad and served as the second captain of the squad from 1973-1975. An honorary member of the Hartwick Volunteer Fire Department, Roscoe was also a member of Laurens Lodge No. 548, Free and Accepted Masons.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed all wildlife and liked hunting and gardening. He especially enjoyed the companionship of his daughter Roxanne's dog, Murray, and had a great love for his farm.

Roscoe is survived by his devoted and loving daughter and son-in-law, Roxanne J. Conklin and John Dillon of Mount Vision; one son, Richard Conklin of Mount Vision; four grandchildren, Leanne Summers of California, Jacqueline L. Conklin of Cobleskill, Chief Warrant Officer Mark A. Conklin, U.S. Marine Corps in North Carolina, and Jan Marie Conklin of Manhattan; four great-grandchildren, Victor Jones, Brent Jones, Shane  Jones and Mark A. Conklin Jr.; one sister and brother-in-law, Madeline and Gerald Ryan of Tampa, Fla.; one niece, Kathleen Ryan of Seminole, Fla.; an important part of the family, Butch Jones, and other devoted friends, including Kevin More of Oneonta.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at the First Baptist Church of Hartwick, with Pastor Stephen D. Bicknell, of the First Baptist Church of Mount Vision, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Hartwick Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. when Roscoe's family will be in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to the Laurens Emergency Squad, Laurens, N.Y. 13796 or the Hartwick Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 208, Hartwick, N.Y. 13348 or the Garrattsville Emergency Squad, Garrattsville, N.Y. 13342.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Steven L. Robinson

MILFORD — Mr. Steven L. Robinson, 24, of Milford, passed away on Friday, Feb. 23, 2001.

He was born in Norwich on June 29, 1976, the son of Steven and Connie (Manwarren) Robinson.

Steven graduated from Milford Central School in 1995. He loved pro wrestling, the Miami Dolphins and Dungeons and Dragons.

He is survived by his parents, Connie and Steven Robinson of Milford; his sister, Jessica Robinson; his son, Michael Lee Miller; paternal grandparents, Clyde and Florence Robinson of Otego; his maternal grandmother, Ora B. Manwarren of Norwich; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was predeceased by a son, Branden Lee Miller.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Milford United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Nancy Kozlowski, pastor, officiating.

At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours.

Burial will be in the spring at the Maryland Cemetery. He will be placed in the receiving vault at the Tillapaugh Funeral Home in Cooperstown.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Blanche F. Doroski

DAVENPORT CENTER — Blanche F. Doroski, 95, of Davenport Center, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at Delaware County Countryside Care, Delhi.

She was born Feb. 16, 1906, in Hobart, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Marschilok.

On Nov. 26, 1925, she married Stephen Doroski in Hobart. He survives at Countryside Care in Delhi.

Mrs. Doroski enjoyed her home and had helped her husband with the dairy farm they once operated. She also worked as a seamstress at Oneonta Dress Factory.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Gene Doroski and his wife, Pat, Fort Edward, and John Doroski, Davenport Center; two daughters, Helen and Carlton Briggs, Davenport Center, and Marjorie Moore, also of Davenport Center; 36 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Doroski, Kingsbury, N.J., and Effie Strand, Latham, also survive.

Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport, with the Rev. Traci Martin officiating. Calling hours will be this evening, Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring at the Davenport Cemetery, Davenport.

Contributions in her memory may be made to East Meredith First Responders or Catskill Area Hospice.

Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Davenport.

Earl Ridgeway

EAST WORCESTER — Earl Ridgeway, 76, of East Worcester, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at his home unexpectedly.

He was born May 4, 1924, in Carmel, the son of Schuyler and Anna (Baker) Ridgeway.

He married Leora Mattice on Oct. 2, 1965, in Sharon Springs.

Mr. Ridgeway was at one time employed at the State University College of Agriculture and Technology at Cobleskill and also was a self-employed mason and carpenter.

He was a member of the Pilgrim Holiness Church, East Worcester.

He is survived by his wife, Leora Ridgeway of East Worcester; two daughters, Roberta "Robin" Mattice of Richmondville and Nancy and her husband, Fred Smith, of the town of Glen; a brother, Harold Ridgeway of Worcester; a sister, Rita Cory of Connecticut; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia Simmons of  Pennsylvania; three brothers, Schuyler, Kenny and Merle; and two sisters, Evelyn and Irene.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2001, at the Pilgrim Holiness Church, East Worcester, with the Rev. John A. Peabody Jr., pastor, officiating.

Burial will be announced at a later date.

There will be no calling hours.

Contributions may be made in loving memory of Earl Ridgeway to the Pilgrim Holiness Church, P.O. Box 643, East Worcester, N.Y. 12064.

Funeral arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co. Funeral Chapel, 115 Main St., Worcester.

Eileen S. Gauthier

WHITESBORO — Eileen S. Gauthier, 76, passed away Feb. 25, 2001, at Faxton Hospital after a long illness.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, at 12:30 p.m. at J.W. Dimbleby Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Whitesboro, and 1:30 p.m. at St. Paul's Church, where the funeral Mass will be celebrated. Calling hours are today from 4 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

John G. Goodale

RICHFIELD SPRINGS — John G. Goodale passed away at home on Feb. 26, 2001.

He was the son of Roger and Mable Goodale of Richfield Springs.

He was predeceased by brothers, Carlton, George, Harry, Ralph and Ward, and a sister, Audrey.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth H. Goodale; his brothers Warren, William and Roger; and his sisters Alice Dent, Catherine Staring and Ginger Fassett.

His children are Susan Stratton, Douglas Goodale, Kellie Cooper and Jack Cooper. He also has seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and always his beloved friend Pam Lea, Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

He is a graduate of Geneseo and earned a master's degree in history at the State University at Albany. He graduated from the midshipman school established by the United States Navy at Notre Dame after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. He took part in the D-Day invasion in Normandy on June 6, 1944, and then was transferred to the Pacific theater of war. He retired from the United States Navy as a Lt. Commander.

He was a teacher and administrator in the Argyle, Schuyler Lake and Richfield Springs School District. He was director of testing for the State University of Arizona at Tulsa. He was a teacher and administrator for several years in the FrankfortSchuyler School district. His students found him a compassionate, trustworthy and fair teacher, which is in large part his legacy.

He will always be cherished by his family and friends.

Those who wish to remember him, please consider a donation to the Richfield Springs Emergency Rescue Squad or the Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes may be obtained from the J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.

Joseph C. Conklin

DOWNSVILLE — Joseph C. Conklin, 78, a former resident of Downsville, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford.

He was born in Downsville Dec. 9, 1922, the son of Sylvester and Susan (Bonning) Conklin.

He was married to Charlotte Neidig on Dec. 31, 1967, in Downsville. She predeceased him in July 1987.

He worked as a truck driver in highway construction and was a member of Laborers Union Local 17.

He was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, the American Legion James S. Moore Post #167 of Downsville and a World War II veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by three sons, Albert M. Closs of Roscoe, Norman M. Closs of Cooks Falls and Joseph D. Conklin of Livingston Manor; four daughters, Portia E. Whitehill of Unadilla, Kathy L. Deacon of Hyde Park, Noma M. Lacey of Cooks Falls and Linda S. Pasciuta of Norwich; two sisters, Lillian Young of New Windsor and Violet Caulfied of North Bergen, N.J.; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Knorr Funeral Home, Downsville, today; the family will be in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the Knorr Funeral Home, Downsville, on Thursday, March 1, 2001, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. R.L. Donahue of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Downsville, officiating.

Interment will be in Paige Cemetery, Downsville.

Persons wishing to do so may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Oxford Veterans Home.

Funeral arrangements are by the Knorr Funeral Home, Downsville.

Derosette R. Walker

HERKIMER — Derosette R. Walker, 92, of 104 North  Washington St., formerly of Route 25A, Springfield Center, and widow of Hobart Walker, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, in Folts Homes, Herkimer.

She was born on July 13, 1908, in Brooklyn, daughter of the late Harry and Maude Nelson Cahill.

She was a resident of Folts Homes since December of 1999, coming from Springfield Center where she had resided with her daughter, Joan Davis.

Mrs. Walker was interested in maintaining good health. She had a love for the outdoors, walking and swimming. She held a special place in her heart for all animals, especially dogs.

In later years she became a Christian, much to the joy of her whole family.

Besides her daughter, Joan Davis of Springfield Center, she is survived by a son, Robert Park of Hollywood,  Calif.; four grandchildren, Kathy Dobelman, Jan Alibrando, Gary Davis and Donna Sheffield; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

One brother preceded her in death.

A graveside funeral service will be held later this spring in Lakeview Cemetery, Richfield Springs, at a time to be announced. The Rev. James Barnes will officiate.

There are no calling hours.

Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Richfield Springs.
