Ray A. Morell

MARYLAND — Ray A. Morell, 55, a lifetime area resident, lost his courageous battle with cancer on Friday, March 23, 2001, at his home in Maryland.

He was born in Harpersfield on Oct. 9, 1945, the son of Clarence and Mildred (Moxham) Morell Sr.

On June 13, 1967, he married Kathy Hitchcock, in Oneonta.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Michelle and Jody Sperbeck of Schenevus, Renay Morell of Maryland and Cherri and Eric Haner of Maryland; three adopted children, Jeff and his wife, Lisa Morell, of Davenport, Steve and his wife, Kathy Morell, of Williamsville, and Kellie Morell of Elma. Ray also has two other "adopted" children, Mari Allen of Schenevus and Alan Kelsey of Kirkwood; his three very special grandchildren, Shawn and Brittney Sperbeck of Schenevus and Alex Morell of Williamsville. He is survived by three brothers, Clarence and Joan Morell Sr. of Stamford, Richard and Monika Morrell of Carlisle and Ronald and Marty Morell of Worcester; a very special uncle, Art Morrell; cousins, Carlton Morrell and Michell Cohn; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and his beloved sidekick, Shylo.

He was predeceased by his parents; a sister, Mildred; and a brother, Melvin.

Ray worked hard all his life, his latest job being with the Town of Maryland Highway Department as a deputy/equipment operator. Previously, he worked for R.H. Cole Trucking in Windsor.

Ray always enjoyed time spent with his family and friends. During his life, Ray always made his family laugh and, even when the days were getting tougher, he still said things to make us laugh. And for that we leave him this poem:

A memorial service was held on Sunday, March 25, 2001, at E.J. Skinner Funeral Chapel in Worcester at 2 p.m.

There were no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 542 Main St., Oneonta, NY 13820.

Oh how I wish I could take pain away, to kiss that part that hurts and make it better, take that disease that has took control of your body and set it free. The sadness I see in your eyes breaks my heart. My family is grieving the loss of someone so so very special. If only I could take you in my arms and chase all the demons away. I would collect every star that is in heaven to make you shine bright again, to smile, to laugh, to make me know that you're very much alive. I love you Dad with all my heart. God bless you, and may you rest in peace. Your loving daughter, Renay.

Arrangements are by E.J. Skinner Co., 115 Main St., Worcester.
