Iva S. Winn

BAINBRIDGE — Iva S. Winn, of Bainbridge, died on Sunday, March 25, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Anna Stoutenberg, after a long illness.

She was born in Colchester, the daughter of Eugene and Florence (Brown) Lockwood.

She is predeceased by her son, Eugene Winn; her husband, Everette Winn; and a longtime companion, Charlie Northrup.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Anna and Kenneth Stoutenberg of Bainbridge and Isabelle Dutcher of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Gilbert Lockwood of Guilford; a sister, Nora Hurlburt of Oxford; and several nephews and nieces.

The family will receive friends at the Dorothy Memorial Home, 121 Main St., Afton, on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, from noon to 2 p.m. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at the Dorothy Memorial Home in Afton, with the Rev. Gordon Polenz officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Glenwood Cemetery in Afton.

Memorial gifts may be made to the Bainbridge Emergency Squad or to the Chenango County Hospice Program.

Warren A. Dennis

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Warren A. Dennis, 75, died on March 4, 2001, in Zephyrhills, Fla.

Mr. Dennis was born in Plattsburg, N.Y., on March 12, 1925.

He was a veteran of World War II. He retired in 1986 after working for 33 years for Buffalo Forge in Buffalo, N.Y.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Brockway Dennis, at their home in Hobart, N.Y., and Zephyrhills, Fla. He is also survived by three sons, Dennis, Patrick R. and Edward C.; a daughter, Pamela A. Porter; Dwight and Rosie Brockway, Kenneth and Virginia Brockway and Louise and Albert VanEtten; stepsons Kenny Williams and Fred Williams; an aunt, Charlotte Penoyer; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He also had a daughter, Darla Jean Dennis Stewart, who predeceased him.

A memorial service was held in the American Legion Hall in Zephyrhills, on March 9, with the Rev. Craig Ford conducting the service.

Robert Wolverton

WEST ONEONTA — Robert Walker Wolverton Jr., of 2828 South St., West Oneonta, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2001, at A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta, after a brief illness.

He was born May 8, 1932, in Stroudsburg, Pa., the son of Robert Walker and Edith Gorgy Wolverton.

He married Lorraine Marsh, who survives him, on June 30, 1962, in Cooperstown.

An area resident for more than 30 years, he worked as a claims representative for Aetna Life and Causality for a quarter of a century, retiring in 1993.

During his last years he was a devoted gardener and birdwatcher. In recent months he had enjoyed connecting with many long lost classmates as he and others worked to arrange his 50th high-school class reunion.

He spent most of his childhood living in Phoenix Mills. He went to Cooperstown High School, where he graduated in 1951 and played on the basketball team and caddied at the Otesaga Golf Club, Cooperstown. Before attending Rider University Mr. Wolverton was a member of the United States Air Force Air Police from 1951 to 1955, stationed at the Burtonwood Air Force Base outside of Warrington, England, during the Korean War.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Oneonta for more than 30 years, where he served on the Stewardship and Finance committees. He was also a member of the Oneonta Elks Club for more than 30 years, as well as a member of the Burtonwood Air Force Alumni Association and the International Organization of Wooden Money Collectors and received a Special Recognition Award for outstanding service in 1979. He was a past member of the West Oneonta Fire Police.

Mr. Wolverton is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lorraine Wolverton of West Oneonta; one daughter, Kathy Ann Wolverton of Scotia; one son and daughter-in-law, Peter James and Melinda Rhyne, and his soon-to-be-born first grandchild, whom he already loved very much, of Harrison; one sister, Catherine Wolverton of Stroudsburg, Pa.; one brother, Ted Wolverton of Stroudsburg Pa.; and two nieces, Patricia and Pamela Wolverton of Harrisburg, Pa.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Walker and Edith Gorgy Wolverton.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, March 30, 2001, from the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta, with the Rev. William D. Bouton, pastor, officiating. Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, on Thursday, March 29, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m., when the family will be present. Burial will be later in the spring at West Oneonta Cemetery, West Oneonta.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be given to the First United Methodist Church, 66 Chestnut St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, or the A.O. Fox Hospital Foundation, 1 Norton Ave., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, in memory of Robert Walker Wolverton Jr.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Donna Lee Evans

EAST MEREDITH — A service in memory of Donna Lee Evans will be held Saturday, March 31, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the East Meredith Presbyterian Church. Traci Martin, pastor, will officiate.

Constance McGregor

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Constance Leonard McGregor died March 26, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Elena C.M. Tucker.

Born on May 31, 1926, in Hartford, Conn., a daughter of Harry P. and Helen Psinakis Leonard.

She was raised in Pittsfield and resided in Worcester, N.Y., and Albany, N.Y.

She was a graduate of Pittsfield High School, and then she graduated from Union University School of Nursing and attended Russell Sage College, Sienna, and St. Rose College for postgraduate degrees.

During a long and distinguished political career, Ms. McGregor served as president of the New York Federation of Republican Women and was vice president of the National Federation of Republican Women. As a faculty member of the National Republican Campaign School, she lectured extensively across the United States. She was constituent aide to New York State Sen. James Seward and served in the office of Medical Fraud investigation, by appointment of Gov. George Pataki. She was a leader in presidential campaigns as well as many local campaigns.

In her nursing career, Ms. McGregor was a special consultant nurse for the Bureau of Long Term Care, assisted with planning and development of research programs and served as a public health nurse. Health and Human Service secretaries appointed her to the HHS Advisory Council on Nursing Education, a Needs Assessment Institute panel and the Maternal and Fertility Drug Advisory Committee.

Ms. McGregor was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church and was a docent for the Glimmerglass Opera.

In New York City, she served on the Board of Governors of the National Woman's Republican Club. Other memberships include American Association of University Women, Glimmerglass Opera Guild and Board, Greek American Women's Network and the Hellenic Union Club. She is listed in Who's Who in American Politics.

Ms. McGregor is survived by two children, Elena C.M. Tucker of Pittsfield, Mass., and Bruce C. McGregor III of St. Louis, Mo.; a sister, Pauline M. Leonard of Pittsfield, Mass.; a brother, Dr. Peter H. Leonard of Columbus, Ind.; and her beloved grandson, Alexander Nicholas McGregor of St. Louis, Mo. Ms. McGregor also leaves a son-in-law, Michael Tucker, and a daughter-in-law, Dr. Veronica McGregor.

Funeral services for Ms. McGregor will be held Friday, March 30, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. at Dery Funeral Home, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield, Mass., followed by services at 11 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, with the Rev. Fr. Michael Stearns, presbyter, officiating. Burial will follow in Pittsfield Cemetery. Calling hours at Dery Funeral Home will be Thursday from 4 until 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be sent to the Constance L. McGregor Memorial Fund, in care of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 73 Bradford St., Pittsfield, Mass. 01201.

Uva O. Uhlig

ONEONTA — Uva O. Uhlig, 83, of Oneonta, died on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at M.I. Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown.

She was born on Oct. 31, 1917, in Cobleskill, the daughter of the late Floyd T. and Emma M. Sutphen Spencer. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Harold F. Uhlig, in 1963, and a brother, Ivan Spencer.

She is survived by two daughters, Joan E. Wenck and her companion, Fred Packer, of Portlandville and Gloria J. Weil and her husband, James, of San Antonio,  Texas; one son, Edward H. Uhlig and his wife, Carol, of Oneonta; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; cousins, Kathryn Bellinger, Marion Snyder and Robert Guffin, all of Cobleskill, Marguerite Hagman of Lakeside,  Calif., and Charles Sutphen of Greensboro, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Uva was a member of the Elm Park Methodist Church since 1928. She was employed by Bresee's Department Store in their Lingerie Department for 16 years, retiring in 1977. In addition, she was a member of the Oneonta Business Women's Club.

Uva had many interests in her lifetime. A few were reading, watching TV, crocheting, knitting, playing cards and creating ceramics.

At Uva's request, there will be no calling hours or services.

Her remains will be donated to the SUNY Upstate Medical University to help the advancement of medical knowledge.

Interment will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery at a future date.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Bassett Dialysis Unit in Cooperstown or the Elm Park Methodist Church, Oneonta, in her memory.

Olaf J. Severud

COOPERSTOWN — Dr. Olaf J. Severud, 95, of Cooperstown, died Monday evening, March 26, 2001.

He was born in Risor, Norway, on Sept. 27, 1905, a son of Christoffer and Fredrikke (Nielsen) Saeverud.

Dr. Severud graduated from Columbia College, class of 1929, and received his medical degree from Columbia's Physicians and Surgeons, class of 1933.

He married H. Paula Schneppershoff on Sept. 20, 1937, in New Haven, Conn. She predeceased him on June 27, 1981.

Olaf was a lieutenant commander in the United States Navy during World War II, having served in the Pacific theater.

Dr. Severud was a member of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, certified in 1942, head of obstetrics and gynecology at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital from 1946 to 1971, a physician at Wells College in Auroro from 1971 to 1975, medical director at the Mohawk Valley Nursing Home in Ilion from 1975 to 1977 and served as obstetrician and gynecologist-in-chief emeritus at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital.

Before residing in Cooperstown, Dr. Severud had resided in Bogota, N.J., and Hackensack, N.J.

Dr. Severud enjoyed playing golf, maintaining memberships at the Leatherstocking Golf Course and the Otsego Golf Club.

He is survived by a daughter, Karen Severud Cook of Lawrence, Kan.; a son, Peter J. Severud of Cooperstown; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred and Dorothy Severud of Bergenfield, N.J., and Tarpon Springs, Fla., and Christopher and Helen Severud of Denville, N.J.; a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and John Funke of Wyckoff, N.J.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Gladys Severud; and a granddaughter, Kathryn J. Pearson of  Washington, D.C.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Sigurd and John Severud.

Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Tillapaugh Funeral Service, Cooperstown and Milford.

Anita W. Parsons

ONEONTA — Anita W. Parsons, 89, of Oneonta and Mesa, Ariz., died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Hearthstone of Mesa, Ariz.

She was born July 1, 1911, in Plattsburgh, the daughter of John B. and Delia (Jaques) Wolcott.

Anita married Irving L. Parsons on June 4, 1933, in Ticonderoga. Mr. Parsons died Nov. 8, 1988.

Anita had owned and operated Beverly's Dress Shop in Oneonta for 10 years. A resident of Oneonta for the past 55 years, she had wintered in Mesa, Ariz., for the past 25 years.

She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta.

Anita is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Gail) Stauble of Kingston; and two sons, Sherman Parsons and his wife, Shirley, of Old Forge, and Lynn Parsons and his wife, Sandra, of Hertford, N.C. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2001, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Paul Roman of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Oneonta, officiating. Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta, on Friday, March 30, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m., when the family will be present.

It is requested that expressions of sympathy be given to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 3049, Syracuse, N.Y. 13220, or to the charity of one's choice in memory of Anita W. Parsons.

Burial will be later in the Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.

Ann H. Reuter

MORRIS — Ann H. Reuter died March 26, 2001, at the age of 75.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard L.; four loving children, Patricia Schultz, Larry, Tom and John; and 11 grandchildren.

Before moving to Morris, the couple lived in Cresskill, N.J., for 25 years.

She was employed by the Cresskill Board of Education as cafeteria manager for 22 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Morris and the West Laurens Homemakers Club.

Visiting hours are today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Moritz Funeral Home, 348 Closter Dock Road, Closter, N.J.

Funeral services will be held at Moritz on Thursday at 10 a.m. followed by burial at George  Washington Cemetery in Paramus, N.J.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church of Morris, Morris, N.Y. 13808.

Joan Brosnan

MASONVILLE — Joan Marie Brosnan, 50, of Masonville, passed away Monday, March 26, 2001, at her home.

She was born Jan. 29, 1951, daughter of Thomas and Florence Clark Cooney in Manhattan.

Joan married John Brosnan on Oct. 9, 1972, in  Jackson Heights.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Sidney, where she was a cantor.

Joan also was a substitute teacher for the Sidney Central School district.

She is survived by her husband, John Brosnan of Masonville; her mother, Florence Cooney of Bainbridge; a son, Sean Brosnan of Wantagh; a daughter, Ariane Brosnan of Masonville; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Lupe Cooney, of El Paso,  Texas.

Her father, Thomas Cooney, predeceased her.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, March 29, 2001, at Sacred Heart Church, Sidney, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Fr. Gordon Polenz, pastor, officiating. Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Burial will be in Masonville Cemetery in the spring.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Missionaries of Charity, 335 East 145 St., Bronx, N.Y. 10451.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

Isadore Kozlowski

SIDNEY — Isadore R. Kozlowski, 84, of Sidney, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 11, 2001, in  Johnson City.

Memorial services will be held Friday, March 30, 2001, at C.H. Landers Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, at 3:30 p.m.

Arrangements are by C.H. Landers Inc., Sidney.

David Blumenstock

CONCORD, Mass. — Dr. David A. Blumenstock, 74, professor emeritus of clinical surgery, College of Physicians & Surgeons, Columbia University, physician and former surgeon-in-chief at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital, died Friday, March 23, 2001, after a prolonged illness.

Born in Newark, N.J., the son of Albert and Marion (Dickson) Blumenstock, he attended Union College and Cornell Medical School before joining the surgical staff of Bassett Hospital (1953-1992). Dr. Blumenstock devoted his life to caring for his patients, to his shared vision for creating in Bassett Hospital a unique world-class medical teaching facility within a rural setting and to his medical research. Dr. Blumenstock was a research pioneer in the field of lung transplantation.

In 1952, he married Audrey Webster, from Gloversville, N.Y. She predeceased him.

He is survived by his three children, Beth Manley of Middlefield, Conn., David Blumenstock of Westford, Mass,, and Kristen Dube of Lakeville, Mass. He also leaves eight grandchildren and a close family friend, Carol Lewis of Cooperstown, N.Y.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. in the Bassett Hall Chapel on Monday, April 9, 2001.

Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Friends of Bassett, One Atwell Road, Bassett Hospital, Cooperstown, N.Y. 13326.

Samuel Masker

COOPERSTOWN — Samuel Masker, 68, of The Meadows, Cooperstown, died Wednesday morning, March 28, 2001, at Bassett Healthcare, Cooperstown.

He was the son of Harry and Ella Mae (Yager) Masker.

Samuel had been employed by the city of Oneonta as a groundskeeper. He was a lifelong area resident.

He is survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Edith Whispell of Portlandville, Thelma Masker of Syracuse and Mildred and Angelo Amatuccio of Poughkeepsie. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Howard and George Masker, and a sister, Pearle Masker.

Samuel will be cremated and a graveside service will be held at the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, later in the spring of 2001. Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, on Friday, March 30, 2001, from 7 to 9 p.m. when the family will be present.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be given to the Catskill Area Hospice, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820, in memory of Samuel Masker.

Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Homes, Oneonta and Otego.
