Dorothy Robinson
RICHFIELD SPRINGS — Dorothy Estella Robinson, age 77, of Windsor Drive, Monroe, Ga., passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, in the Social Circle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Walton, Ga.
She was born on March 12, 1924, in Frankfort, daughter of Chester A. and Helen O'Rourke Sturges.
Dorothy was raised and educated in both Frankfort and Mohawk, graduating from Mohawk High School.
On Nov. 19, 1949, she married James C. Robinson in the Mohawk United Methodist Church.
For many years she worked as a bookkeeper for Beaney Transport Co. in Rochester, until her retirement.
She was of the Methodist faith. When she lived locally she was a member of the Ilion Bowling League and the AARP and was a former member of the Mohawk Chapter #319 Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving, besides her husband of 51 years, James, are one son, John E. Robinson of Doraville, Ga.; a daughter, Jayne R. and her husband, David Rogers, of Loganville, Ga.; one brother, Harry and his wife, Marie Sturges, of Ravena; two sisters and their husbands, Marian and James Legg of East Herkimer and Mildred and Horace Stone of Richfield Springs; one granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be on Friday at 2 p.m. in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St., Richfield Springs. The Rev. James Barnes II, pastor of Jordanville Federated Church of Christ, will officiate. The family will be present in the funeral home to receive relatives and friends on Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Interment in Lakeview Cemetery will be later this spring.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Donna Lee Evans
EAST MEREDITH — A service in memory of Donna Lee Evans will be held Saturday, March 31, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the East Meredith Presbyterian Church. Traci Martin, pastor, will officiate.
Mary Rose Sloan
STUART, Fla. — Mary Rose Baer Sloan, 58, of Stuart, Fla., passed away Thursday, March 29, 2001, at her residence.
Born in Chicago, Ill., she had been a resident of Stuart since 1986, coming from Pompano Beach, Fla.
Before retirement she was employed with various businesses as a retail clerk and clerical staff for 20 years.
She was a member of Peace Presbyterian Church, Stuart, and also was a member of the choir.
Survivors include her husband of nine years, J. Alan Sloan of Stuart; a daughter, Christine Thorne of Stuart; three sons, Mark Baer of Stuart, Cory Baer and his wife, Kellie, of Fort Hood, Texas, and Curt Baer of Stuart; her brother, Marion "'Mac" Austin of Rockford, Ill.; four stepdaughters, Dayle Libertore and her husband, Bart, of Sidney, N.Y., Kathy Wilbur and her husband, John, of Wells Bridge, N.Y., Tracy Young and her husband, Lee, of Sidney, and Laurie Stewart of Oneonta, N.Y.; her stepson, James A. Sloan II and his wife, Teresa, of Portlandville, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Kelly Nicole Thorne and Danielle Nicole Baer; and 11 stepgrandchildren.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Nicholas J. Baer, in 1991.

A funeral service will be held Monday, April 2, 2001, 1 p.m., at Peace Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James L. Bailey II, minister, officiating. Interment will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Palm City.

Florence Sinclair
CHERRY VALLEY — Florence W. Sinclair, 93, of Cherry Valley, passed away March 28, 2001, at Palatine Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 3, 1908, in the town of Cherry Valley, the daughter of Linwood and Jessie (Willson) Scramlin.
In August 1974, she married C. Dean Sinclair in Cherry Valley. He predeceased her Nov. 18, 1983.
A lifelong area resident, she was secretary and clerk of the board for Cherry Valley Central School. She retired in 1972, after working 24 years for the district.
She and her brother were born on the Willson Homestead in Cherry Valley. The house in which they were born is one of the oldest in Cherry Valley, having been built in 1789. The farm was started in 1738, by Mrs. Sinclair's great-great-great-grandfather, James Willson, who came to this country from Ireland. (Mr. Willson was the first surveyor of the Lindsay Patent in what is now the Town of Cherry Valley and was captain of the fort at the time of the Cherry Valley Massacre).
Mrs. Sinclair was a member of the Cherry Valley United Methodist Church and a 74-year member of the Cherry Valley Rebekah Lodge. She was also a life member of the Cherry Valley Historical Society.
She is survived by a nephew, Robert Scramlin of Cherry Valley; a grandnephew, Ronald Scramlin of Mims, Fla.; and a grandniece, Cynthia Scramlin of Cortland.
Cremation took place at the Leatherstocking Crematory Inc., Cherry Valley. A graveside memorial service in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, with the Rev. Lyman Johnson officiating, will be announced at a later date.
Contributions in Mrs. Sinclair's memory may be made to the Cherry Valley Museum.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ottman Funeral Home, Cherry Valley.
Rose L. Parker
ADDISON — Rose L. Schoonover Parker, 77, of Apt. 104, 43 William St., Addison, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, Pa.
Born in Austinburg, Pa., March 27, 1924, she was the daughter of Lewis and Anna Prentice Schoonover.
She was a 1941 graduate of Knoxville High School and a member of the Tuscarora Baptist Church.
She first wed the Rev. Karl Schoonover, May 30, 1941; he went to be with the Lord on April 17, 1977. She then married Gerald Parker of Sabinsville, Pa.
During her first marriage the couple served Baptist churches at Upper Lisle, Ansonville, Pa., Wellsville and Tuscarora.
Besides her husband, she is survived by sons and a daughter-in-law, Dr. Karl (Sherry) Schoonover of Oneonta and Philip and Georgia Schoonover of Addison; her daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and James Overman of Millersburg, Ohio; and a daughter-in-law, Elaine Apple of Allen Park, Mich.; brothers, Robert Schoonover of Knoxville, Pa., and Leon Schoonover of Elkland, Pa.; 11 grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her sons, Dennis and the Rev. David Schoonover; and her sister, Ruth Resue.
Friends may call today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the H.P. Smith & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1607 Main St., Woodhull.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Tuscarora Baptist Church, with the Rev. L. D. Maxson officiating, assisted by the Rev. George Waggoner.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Austinburg, Pa.
Edith S. Lawton
NEW HARTFORD — Edith S. Lawton, 90, of the Presbyterian Home for Central New York, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at St. Luke's Memorial Hospital Center, shortly before the passing of her son, John L. Lawton.
She was born on Feb. 23, 1911, in Oneonta, the daughter of Elbert and Hazel (Crawford) Sexton.
She was a graduate of Oneonta High School and the Oneonta Normal School.
On July 29, 1939, she married Guy M. Lawton. Mr. Lawton passed away on Dec. 5, 1995.
Mrs. Lawton was a grade-school teacher in the Cobleskill School system and then with the Whitesboro school system, before her retirement.
She was a member of the New Hartford First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Lawton volunteered for the Blind Association, where she manually Brailled textbooks for students.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Kristen and Jonathan Lawton, both of Clinton, N.Y.; a sister, Jane Hess of Oneonta; and many nieces and nephews.
Her son, John L. Lawton passed away shortly after her death. She was predeceased by a nephew, Stephen Lawton.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday at noon at the Friedel, Williams, Coriale & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Road, New Hartford.
Interment will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery in the spring.

John Leigh Lawton
CLINTON — John Leigh Lawton, 56, of Clinton, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at his home, several hours after the passing of his mother, Edith Lawton.
He was born June 20, 1944, in Rome, the son of the late Guy and Edith (Sexton) Lawton.
He graduated from the New Hartford High School with the Class of 1963.
John was a United States veteran serving during the Vietnam War.
On Feb. 19, 1972, he married Gail Capra, in St. Thomas Church, New Hartford. The union was blessed with two beautiful children.
John was employed with NYNEX in the Syracuse and Utica areas, until his retirement in 1994.
He had a great love for automobiles, historical documentaries, musical trivia and especially his cat, Weasel. John's dry sense of humor will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Gail; his daughter, Kristen of Rochester; his son, Jonathan of Clinton; his aunt, Jane Hess of Oneonta; and his mother-in-law, Florence Capra of New Hartford. He also leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews; and his good friends, David and Barbara DeBlois.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice Care, the St. Luke's Hospital ICU Fourth Floor Staff, Dr. Wade Hunt, Dr. Srinivasan Mani and Dr. Sultana Razia for the special care and compassion that was given to John during his illness.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2001, at noon at the Friedel, Williams, Coriale & Edmunds Funeral Home, 13 Oxford Rd., New Hartford. There are no calling hours.
Gladys Benjamin
ROXBURY — Gladys Fern Benjamin, 77, of Lake Street, Roxbury, died March 28, 2001, in the Margaretville Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Abilene, Texas, the daughter of Gloyd and Jessie Jett.
She married Leroy Benjamin, they had been married for more than 50 years.
Gladys grew up on a farm in Texas. Later she became a retail salesperson in Brooklyn.
She has been a resident of Roxbury for 15 years, moving from Brooklyn.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy Benjamin of Roxbury; one son, Martin, and daughter-in-law, Millie Rattiger Benjamin, of Margaretville; one sister, Juanita Levretts of Roseburg, Ore.; two brothers, G.T. Jett of Texas and Shelton Jett of Virginia.
She was predeceased by one son, Harold Benjamin, in 1975, and one grandson, John Sproston, in 1991.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 31, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury, with the Rev. Richard Dykstra officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Park Cemetery, Paramus, N.J.
Calling hours are noon until service time on Saturday.
Arrangements are by Miller Funeral Home, Roxbury.
Michael B. Gleason
SCHENEVUS — Michael B. Gleason, 57, of Schenevus, died Thursday, March 29, 2001, at his home.
He was born April 12, 1943, in New York City, the son of Michael and Catherine (Lennon) Gleason.
He married Jacqueline C. Meerman on April 12, 1964, in Bergenfield, N.J.
In 1976, Michael and his family moved to Schenevus, N.Y.
He was a self employed brokerage operations consultant in New York City.
Michael was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Schenevus; a past member of the Stock Loan Association, New York City; Dividend Association, New York City; and Cashier's Association, New York City.
He was an assistant scout master, an assistant coach and manager of the Little League and Pee Wee Football, in Dumont, N.J. Michael was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline; his children, John and his wife, Marygrace Gleason of West Islip, N.Y., Michele and her husband, Rob Wright of Worcester, N.Y., and Dennis and his wife, Rebecca Gleason of East Durham, N.Y.
He was the beloved "Pop Pop" to his grandchildren, Emily and Clare Gleason, Michaela and Madison Wright and Liam and Shannon Gleason.
Also surviving are a brother, John Gleason; two sisters, Maureen Wood and Barbara Fagerman; his godson, Conor Gleason and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Dennis S. Gleason.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, April 2, 2001, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home, Schenevus. There will be a vigil service at 8:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Main Street, Schenevus, with the Rev. Edward Golding as celebrant.
Burial will be at the Schenevus Cemetery in Schenevus.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in loving memory of Michael to the Schenevus Central School Music Department, 100 Main St., Schenevus, NY 12155; the Schenevus-Maryland Emergency Squad, 105 County Highway 34, Schenevus, N.Y. 12155; or the Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, 542 Main St., Oneonta, N.Y. 13820.

Helen Post
HOBART — Helen Post, 86, of Hobart Township, passed away Friday, March 30, 2001.
She was born March 3, 1915, the daughter of Floyd and Etta (Conklin) Hamilton in Livingston Manor, N.Y.
She married the late Donald Post on April 14, 1939, in Hobart. He predeceased her on Jan. 14, 1999.
A housewife on the family farm, Mrs. Post lovingly cared for her children and found her grandchildren and great-grandchildren the highlight of her life.
She loved her flowers and lovely flower beds. Her arrangements often adorned not only her home but the church and were gifts to others in the community.
She had a unique touch creating extraordinary decorative arts from ordinary objects.
An active community member she was a member of Township United Methodist Church; the WSCS of the church; the Township Community Club; Pinochle Club; and the Hooked Rug Club. Early in her life she waitressed in New Kingston and for the Foote's in Hobart.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Richard Brink, of Barton, N.Y.; a son and daughter-in-law, David and Carolyn Post, of Hobart, N.Y.; seven grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond Hamilton of New Jersey and Clifford Hamilton of Texas; and a sister, Mary England, of Ohio.
A brother, Donald Hamilton, and a granddaughter, Jill Post, predeceased her.
Funeral services will take place on Monday, April 2, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Township United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Elder, pastor, officiating.
Calling hours will be on Sunday evening April 1 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Burial will be at the Township Cemetery in Hobart Township.
Arrangements are with the MacArthur Funeral Home, Hobart.
