"Earnie" was born on Feb. 21, 1919, in Dustin, Okla., the eighth of 13 children of William ("Willie") Buford and Dora Ann Ruddell Young of Wetumka, Okla.

After the war, he married Ruth Marie Connor in 1946, at Wetumka, and moved to Weleeka, Okla. There he ran a radio and electrical repair shop, where he attracted curious onlookers with the first TV in that part of eastern  Oklahoma.

In 1950, his family moved to Midwest City, Okla. Earnest worked at Tinker Air Force Base, and then ran Young's TV with his wife and son.

He was an avid, record-setting fisherman and a coon and quail hunter who loved his dogs and being outdoors with family and friends. He played guitar and enjoyed Country-Western music and dancing.

In 1995, Earnest moved to Oneonta, N.Y., where he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Phil and Honey Young; his three grandchildren, Courtney, Caitlyn and Benjamin Young; special friends, Bob, Mary Lynn and Annalee Bensen, Irene Judkins and Elsie Albright; and others at the Hampshire House.
