Esther C. Douglas
EDMESTON — Esther C. Douglas, 69, of Edmeston died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at St. Elizabeth's Medical Center, Utica, N.Y.
She was born Sept. 30, 1931, in Milford, N.Y., the daughter of Horace and Leta (Persons) Cornish.
On Sept. 17, 1950, she married Willard I. Douglas. They recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Esther was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and great-grandmother. She retired as the cafeteria manager for the Mount Markham Central School District. She loved to sew, shop with her sisters, and bake and will be remembered as a good cook and family person. She enjoyed nature, song birds and her favorite color, blue. In addition to all of this, she was the number one fan of the New York Yankees.
In addition to her husband Willard, she is survived by three children, Marylyn and Don Fenton of Summerville S.C., Pamela and William Lewis of Poland and Scott Douglas of Clayville; her grandchildren Bryan Fenton and Aimee Gethers; and great-grandchildren, Brandon and Dyon. Also surviving are her brother, Howard Cornish and sisters, Jerri Houlihan, Joyce Stockholm and Jo-Ann Vass. She was predeceased by her sisters Jean Renwick and Verna John and a brother Buster Cornish.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, May 14, 2001, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of West Edmeston with the Rev. Don Buck officiating.
Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Milford Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the MS Society or the Heart Association in Esther's memory would be appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the church.

Therese Ellsworth
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — Therese M. Ellsworth, formerly of Cooperstown, died in West Philadelphia, Pa., on May 6, 2001, after a long battle with breast cancer.
Ms. Ellsworth was born in 1953 in Pusan, Korea, and raised in Oaksville, N.Y. She was a 1971 graduate of Cooperstown Central School.
In 1973, she joined the United States Army and served at the United States Military Academy at West Point where, as an equal opportunity specialist, she was involved in developing the program for admitting the first class of women, and with the 3/2 Armored Cavalry Regiment, Amberg, Germany where she was the Race Relations/Equal Opportunity NCO. She was honorably discharged as a Specialist 5 (E-5) in 1978.
After working for many years in the insurance industry, Ms. Ellsworth was accepted to Bryn Mawr College as a McBride Scholar. As a student, she served for four years on the McBride Advisory Board, two of those years as its president. She graduated in 1999. After graduation, Ms. Ellsworth was employed as an Editorial Assistant at The Wistar Institute in Philadelphia, a cancer research institute.
Ms. Ellsworth is survived by her domestic partner, Charla Curtis; two sons, Bruce Massey of Haddonfield, N.J. and Scott Massey of Marlton, N.J.; her mother, Marcella Ellsworth of Portland, Maine; her brother, Edward Ellsworth of Seattle, Wash.; and her brother, David Ellsworth of Portland, Maine.
At Ms. Ellsworth's request, no funeral services will be held. Condolences may be sent to Charla Curtis, 1022 S. 47th St., Apt. 1A, Philadelphia, PA, 19143. Please make donations to the Bryn Mawr College McBride Scholarship Fund in lieu of flowers.

Mary E. Russell
COOPERSTOWN — Committal services and burial for Mary Emilie Hunt Russell, 93, of Cooperstown, who died Dec. 30, 2000, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, in Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
Charles M. Mould
WESTFORD — Charles M. Mould, 87, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Bassett Healthcare Hospital in Cooperstown.
He was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Montgomery, N.Y. the son of Peter Jay and Blanche (Carley) Mould.
He married Sarah Catherine Palmer on Sept. 9, 1949. She predeceased him on Aug. 17, 1997.
Charles owned and operated the Mould family dairy farm in Westford.
He was a founding member of the Westford Fire Department and served as deputy fire chief for many years. He also was an Election Inspector for the town of Westford for several years.
Charles was an avid outdoorsman. He will always be remembered for his kindness and willingness to stop what he was doing to help someone in need.
He is survived by three sons, David C. and Lola; James J. and Charles A. and Dottie, all of Westford; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Louise Mould Redden of Andes; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter Janet Mould Patterson in February of 1997 and a brother, Herbert Mould.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 13, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., with the family in attendance from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Heller Funeral Home in Schenevus.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 14, at the Westford United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joyce Allen officiating.
Burial will follow at the Westford Cemetery

Kenneth L. Reinhard
BAINBRIDGE — Kenneth L. Reinhard, 88, passed away to be with his Lord May 10, 2001, at the Oneonta Nursing Home, Oneonta, N.Y.
He was born June 17, 1912, to George and Iona Coons Reinhard in Seelyville, Pa.
Kenneth married Loretta Knorr, daughter of Paul and Katherine Knorr, on June 30, 1934, at the Lutheran Church by the Rev. W.F. Heldt, of Honesdale, Pa.
They moved to Sidney in 1940. He was employed at Scintilla as a foreman for 16 years. He retired in 1974 after 35 years. Ken was an active member the United Presbyterian Church of East Guilford. Through the years he had served as an Elder and helped with many repair projects. Many will remember him preparing the roast beef for their annual suppers.
He is survived by his wife, Loretta Reinhard, of Bainbridge; a son and daughter-in-law, George and Betty Reinhard, of Gilbert, S.C.; two granddaughters, Donna Landers of Franklin and Dawn Boecke of South Carolina; brothers-in-law Edward Reinhart of Honesdale, Pa., Kenneth and Genevieve Knorr of Bainbridge, and Lincoln and Patricia Knorr; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister Hazel.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First United Presbyterian Church of East Guilford or the Diabetes Association.

Edgar E. Andresen
AFTON — Edgar E. Andresen, 83, of Afton, N.Y., passed away Thursday, May 10, 2001, at The Hospital, Sidney, N.Y.
He was born Jan. 8, 1918, in Norway, the son of Adolph and Alma (Jacobsen) Andresen.
He was married to Thelma Reinertsen La LaFever, June 2, 1984, in Franklin, N.Y.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.
Before retiring, Edgar owned and operated a dairy farm in North Sanford.
He was a member of the North Sanford United Methodist church, life member of the Disabled American Veterans, VFW Post #3529 of Afton, Sidney Moose Lodge #277, and the Afton Senior Citizens.
Edgar is survived by his wife, Thelma Andresen of Afton; three stepsons, Donald LaFever of Norwich, Andrew LaFever of Binghamton, and James LaFever of Unadilla; two stepdaughters Shirley Young of Laurel, Del., and Christine Wilson of Unadilla; a close brother-in-law, Leland Smith of Deposit, and other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Leif Andresen and a sister Gerd Smith.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at Anthony Cemetery, North Sanford, N.Y.
There will be no calling hours.

John P. King
SPRINGFIELD CENTER — Mr. John Patrick King, 84, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2001, at his home in Springfield Center, N.Y.
He was born. Aug. 13, 1916, in the Bronx, N.Y.
On Aug. 22, 1944, he married Shirley A. Beaulne of Oakfield, N.Y. She survives.
Mr. King was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Force, serving four years during World War II.
John and family were former residents of Oakfield, N.Y., where he had many friends.
In the 1960s, John was employed by the Flintkote Co. and Interstate Paper Co. in Riceboro, Ga., until his retirement in 1983, when he and his wife moved to Springfield Center.
Besides his wife Shirley King of Springfield Center, he is survived by a son, Patrick J. King of Campbellsville, Ky.; two daughters, Pamela Humphrey of Savannah, Ga., and Elizabeth Lincoln of Baton Rouge, La.; five grandchildren, Christopher and Elyse Lincoln, and Sean, Joel, and Bethany Humphrey.
He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
It is John's wish that committal be private.
A memorial mass will be held at St. Joseph's Church in Richfield Springs, at a later date, at the convenience of the family.

COOPERSTOWN — Committal services and burial for Helen M. White, 87, of Cooperstown, who died March 7, 2001, will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, in Fly Creek Valley Cemetery with the Rev. Douglas Deer, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cooperstown, officiating.

CHERRY VALLEY — Graveside committal services for Mrs. Rowlinda G. Livengood, who passed away March 11, 2001, will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, in the Cherry Valley Cemetery, Cherry Valley, with the Rev. Lyman Johnson officiating.

Lee John Bauer
DELHI — Lee John Bauer, 36, of Delhi.
He was born June 27, 1964, in Delhi, the son of John and Deborah (Burt) Bauer Jr.
Mr. Bauer was single and thoroughly enjoyed outdoor activities.
He graduated from Delaware Academy and Central School and worked for Oneonta Public Transit in Oneonta.
Survivors are his parents, John and Deborah Bauer Jr., Delhi; and brothers and sisters, John (Judith) Bauer, Delhi, Ella (Daniel) Ladlee, Meredith, Larry (Alice) Bauer, Morris, David (Christine) Bauer, Callahan, Fla., Ruth (James) Scofield, Delhi, Cindy Bauer and her friend, Gerry Schaffer, Delhi, Mary (Daniel) Johnson, Meridale, Russell Bauer and his friend, Linda Perry, Maryland; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family. There will be no funeral service.
Contributions in his memory may be made to a local food bank of one's choice.

Mildred O. Green
WESTVILLE — Mildred O. Green, 96, of Westville, died peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 12, 2001.
She was born in Cooperstown on Jan. 5, 1905, a daughter of Edward and Attie (Osborn) Ottaway.
Mildred graduated from the Cooperstown High School Class of 1923, and then from the Mildred Elley Secretarial School.
She worked for the Farm Bureau for several years after her schooling.
She married Ambrose Green on Sept. 18, 1926. He predeceased her April 9, 1973.
Mildred was a member of the Westville Home Bureau, a 75-year member of the Westville Grange, the Cherry Valley Eastern Star, the Cherry Valley Rebecca Lodge, the Westville Wednesday Girls and the Westville Baptist Church until it closed. She attended the Westville United Methodist Church.
Millie was an avid knitter, enjoyed crocheting and was an accomplished seamstress.
She was a devoted wife and mother and dedicated her life to her family.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Margaret Green of Westville, and Ward and Carol Green of Westville; a daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Donald Thorn of Manchester; seven grandchildren, Craig Green and his wife, Stephanie of Hopkinton, N.H., Kevin Green and his wife, Cindy of Rutland, Vt., Keith Green and his wife, Stephanie of Omaha, Neb., Kelly Riehm and her husband, George of New Fairfield, Conn., Nicholas Green and his wife, Kerstin of Westville, Brian Thorn and his wife, Judy of Rush, and Mark Thorn and his wife, Diane of Victor; seven great-grandchildren, Kaci Green of Rutland, Vt., Michael Paul of Rush, Dominick Green of Westville, Sabastian Green of Westville, Francesca Green of Westville, Zoe Green of Westville, and Jamie Thorn of Victor.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at 1 p.m. at the Westville United Methodist Church in Westville, with the Rev. Shirley Tabor officiating.
At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours. Burial will follow at Westville Cemetery.

Betty Lou E. Polley
ONEONTA — On May 13, 2001, Betty Lou E. Polley went to be with our Lord and became her family's guardian angel. She died peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Oct. 27, 1934, in Oneonta, the daughter of "Mama," Hazel E. "Wilma" Brown and Raphael W. Short.
She was raised by her special father "Pa" Alfred T. "AT" Brown.
She was a member of St. Mary's Church, Oneonta. She owned and operated Oneonta Bookkeeping Service for more than 20 years.
She loved watching her grandchildren in sporting and school events, team penning, fishing, golf, bingo, square dancing, playing pinochle, going to hockey and baseball games with Tom and the Gang and enjoying life to the fullest with her family, extended family and many friends.
She is survived by her children, Robb Polley, Maryland, Doug Polley, Scottsdale, Ariz., Ann-Marie and Michael Parrella, Otego; her two most precious favorite grandchildren, Maria Ann and Rocco A. Parrella of Otego; her Mama, Hazel E. Brown, Oneonta Nursing Home, Oneonta; her very special and best friend, Jean M. Howland, Oneonta; her brother and sister-in-law, Lawton "Luke" and Joyce Short, Evansville, Wis.; several nieces and nephews, Toni and Dale Sperry, Denise and Todd Burns, Steve Short, Tom and Teresa Short, Donnie Short; and several grandnieces and nephews; her aunt, Pauline Short, Binghamton; and several cousins including, Nelson Short, Oneonta; Charles "Chuck" and Alma Short, Binghamton, Fred and Betty Short, Pennsylvania; her extended family, Lottie Howland, Oneonta, Lynn and Joan Gillingham and family, Otego, Harold and Linda Howland and family, Houston, Texas, Ed and Nancy Miller and family, Oneonta, Doug and Linda Smith and family, Williamsburg, Va.

In lieu of flowers, Betty Lou has requested contributions be made to her pet project, St. Mary's School Building Fund, Salvation Army, and Catskill Area Hospice, Oneonta.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, May 15, 2001, at Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, from 5 to 9 p.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church on Walnut Street, Oneonta. Her final resting place will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Oneonta.

Leon E. Shultis
OTEGO — Leon Edward Shultis of Otego and Spring, Texas, died Friday, May 11, 2001, after a long illness.
He was born June 30, 1931, in Oneonta, the son of Francis Edmund and Gertrude (Champlin) Shultis.
He was married first to Jane Monser in 1957, and later to Joanne (Storch) Ruteshouser in 1980.
Leon graduated from Otego Central School in 1950. While he was still in high school he became an apprentice auto mechanic at Lobdell's Garage in Otego, and later attended several advanced classes in auto mechanics. He worked many years at Johnson Chevrolet and Oneonta Country Club Automotive. He was well-known in the area for his mechanical expertise.
He was a member of the Otego Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Ot-go Sno-Goers Snowmobile Club. He was an avid motorcyclist and in later years joined the Retread Motorcycle Club. Leon enjoyed boating, water skiing, vanning and camping with his wife and many friends.
Leon is survived by his wife, Joanne, of Spring, Texas; one brother, Bruce (Joyce) of Goodyear Lake; one sister, Mary (John) Carson of Otego and Naples, Fla.; three nieces and five nephews; several cousins; and stepchildren, Cristy and Steven. While he had no children of his own, he was very fond of his nieces and nephews. Fifteen grandnieces and grandnephews survive him also.
Leon and Joanne spent most of their married life in Otego, but moved to Spring, Texas, in 1994, where Leon enjoyed spending time with his stepgrandson, Sean, and visiting in the neighborhood.
Leon has willed his body to science. After cremation, he will be buried in Otego Evergreen Cemetery. A memorial service will be held in Otego at a later date.
