Sister Katrina
CAMBRIDGE - Sister Katrina -- Nun of New Skete, born Sarah Bancroft, died peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at the Monastery after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Services will be held on Friday, Aug. 15 and Saturday, Aug. 16 at the Holy Wisdom Temple, New Skete Monastery, Cambridge, N.Y.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ackley & Ross Funeral Home, Cambridge.

Barbara Merluzzo
STILLWATER - Mrs. Barbara Brookley Merluzzo, 73, of Wrights Loop, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 12, 2008, at Saratoga Hospital, after an extended illness.

Born in Mechanicville, Oct. 20, 1934, daughter of the late Loren and Ethel Brookley, her family moved to Stillwater and she graduated from Stillwater High School in 1952.

Barbara in addition to raising her family, owned or worked in a number of eating establishments throughout the area, having owned and operated the former Two of Us Cafe in Schuylerville, the Canal House and helped her daughter at Deb's Diner both of Stillwater, also the Saratoga State Park restaurant and the Coffee Shop of Victory Mills.

Kenneth LaFoy
FORT EDWARD - Kenneth LaFoy, 73, a resident of Fort Edward passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 11, 2008, at Glens Falls Hospital.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1934, in Hartford, N.Y., and was the son of the Late Charles and Helen (Dickinson) LaFoy.

Mr. LaFoy retired from Finch Paper in December 1993, after 41 years of dedicated service.

Joanne M. Joyce
SCHROON LAKE - Joanne M. Joyce, 80, passed away suddenly Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at her home on Cedar Hill Drive with her grandson at her side.

She was born Jan. 27, 1928, in Albany, N.Y., the daughter of the late John and Josephine Visher VanGalen.

She lived in Albany until she relocated to her summer home in Schroon Lake in 1993. She graduated from Cathedral High School in 1946.

Elizabeth A. Weiner
CAZENOVIA - Elizabeth A. Weiner, 81, of Cazenovia, died Tuesday in Schroon Lake, N.Y.

Born April 20, 1927 in Syracuse, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Anne (Vaughn) Dowling.

Betty graduated from the Convent High School and Syracuse University School of Nursing.

Marion Briggs
GLENS FALLS - Marion Briggs of the Cronin High Rise Apartments, Glens Falls, N.Y., died peacefully in her sleep Friday, Aug. 8, 2008.

She was born April 5, 1915.

She is survived by three nephews: Ramon Orton of Queensbury and Erwin and Kevin Bragg, both of Los Angeles,  Calif.

Carolyn L. (Frost) Barnes
QUEENSBURY - Carolyn L. (Frost) Barnes of Queensbury, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, after a long illness. With family gathered at her side, she passed away at Westmount Health Facility in Queensbury, where she had lived for the past three months. She was 91.

Born Feb. 14, 1917, in Flint, Mich., Carolyn graduated from Boston University, where she met Norman F. Barnes, who was studying at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. They were married for 70 years.

During and after her husband's career with General Electric Co., Carolyn worked with him on businesses of their own, including a yacht-delivery service and chartering their 61-foot schooner in the Caribbean for a dozen years. With their company, Executive Holidays, they also organized and guided tours around the world for five decades, travels that allowed them to visit 102 countries, go on 16 cruises and cross the equator 14 times. Of their many destinations and activities, among the favorites were snorkeling at Australia's Great Barrier Reef, swimming with sea lions off the Galapagos Islands and, in later years, spending time with family in Hawaii and the Caribbean islands of Puerto Rico and St. Lucia.

Sister Katrina
Cambridge - Sister Katrina, nun of New Skete, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008 at the Monastery, surrounded by her loving sisters. She fought a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born Sarah Bancroft on April 23, 1949 in Swarthmore, Pa., she was the daughter of Dennison and Dorothy Stuart Bancroft.

At the age of 10, Sister Katrina moved with her family to Waterville, Maine, where she lived until going to college at Swarthmore. There, in 1970, she earned a B.A. in Classical Greek while also studying Philosophy. The next year her studies at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens, Greece, sparked a great interest in archaeology which eventually brought her to Princeton University, where she earned a doctorate in 1979 in Classical Archaeology.

Pearl A. Shippee
CORINTH - Pearl A. Shippee, 75, of Oak Street, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany following a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on Dec. 1, 1932 in Corinth, she was the daughter of the late Calvin and Bessie (Allen) LaPier.

Mrs. Shippee attended Corinth High School.

Peter Cornelius Van Dyck
Bolton Landing - Peter Cornelius Van Dyck, of Clay Island, Bolton Landing, N.Y., and formerly of Schenectady, N.Y. and Scotia, N.Y. died Aug. 14, 2008 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Born in Schenectady on June 19, 1917, he was the third of eight children born to Louis Bevier Van Dyck III and Marguerite Towle Van Dyck.

He was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and attended Storm King School. He attended both Union College and Amherst College and graduated from Amherst as a member of the Class of 1938.

Patricia Ellen Eddy
Elizabethtown - Patricia Ellen Eddy, 79, of Dougan Lane, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at CVPH in Plattsburgh, with her family by her side.

She was born April 28, 1929 in Keene N.Y., the daughter of Berkley and Jennie (Lucas) Partridge.

She is survived by her husband, Robert (Bob) Eddy of Elizabethtown, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bob "Butch" and Val Eddy of Glens Falls, and Kenneth Eddy of Elizabethtown, one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Greg Hurley of Plattsburgh; four grandchildren: PJ , Stephanie, Travis and Robby Eddy; two great-grandchildren, Andrew and Piper Eddy; and one sister, Arlene McDonald of Lander, Wyo.

Genevieve E. Kimmerly
North Creek - Genevieve E. Kimmerly, 88, formerly of North Creek and Chestertown, passed away, Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at the Adirondack Tri-County Health Care Center in North Creek, following a long illness.

Born July 13, 1920 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary (Grady) Fairweather.

Genevieve married Aron Kimmerly on May 15, 1945. The couple resided on Long Island, North Creek and Chestertown before her husband's passing on July 9, 1990, after 45 years of marriage.

Mary Vrooman Larson
GUILDERLAND -- Mary Vrooman Larson, 75, of Guilderland, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Schenectady and was the daughter of the late Laverne and Bertha Lott Vrooman. Mary was a Schenectady area resident for all of her life. She will be remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mary is the beloved wife of 57 years to Edward W. Larson. She is the beloved mother of Elaine DeSieno (Ken Relyea), Nancy LaFrance (Joe), Rose Kaufman (Arnold Warner), Irene Zabinski, Mary Carol McAuley (Paul), Catie Salsburg and Edward Larson Jr. She is also survived by two granddaughters, 12 grandsons and four great-grandchildren.

Ann Lusi
FORT EDWARD - Ann Iusi, 67, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008 at the Glens Falls Hospital.

At Ann's request, there will be no calling hours.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008 at St. Joseph's Church, 164 Broadway, Fort Edward, N.Y. with the Rev. Thomas Babiuch, officiating.

Elizabeth Joan O Hare Kirkpatrick Waxweiler
GUILFORD, Conn. - Elizabeth Joan O'Hare Kirkpatrick Waxweiler, of Guilford, Conn. died peacefully at the Connecticut Hospice on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008 after a long illness.

Elizabeth (Betty), formerly of Daytona Beach, Fla. and Stony Creek, N.Y. was born in Albany, N.Y.

She grew up in Manhattan until entering the U.S. Air Force, attaining the rank of corporal.

Charles E. 'Bud' Rustin Jr.
Hudson Falls - Charles E, "Bud" Rustin Jr., 74, a former resident of Hudson Falls, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at The Orchard Nursing Home in Granville.

Born Sept. 3, 1933 in Hudson Falls, he was the son of Doris (Reaulo) Rustin of Ballston Spa and the late Charles E. Rustin, Sr.

He was a former employee of Ames Chemical in Glens Falls and retired from Chase Bag Company in Hudson Falls.

Constance E. Messitt
Chestertown - Constance E. Messitt died Saturday Aug. 16, 2008, at the Teresian House Nursing Home in Albany.

Born in Troy, she was the daughter of the late William and Julia (McGrane) Saunders.

Constance was raised in Watervliet and received her education at Troy Catholic Central High School, Russell Sage College, Mildred Elly School for Girls and the Emma Willard Conservatory of Music.

Ann M. Iusi
FORT EDWARD - Ann M. Iusi, 67, passed away following a long and courageous battle with lung disease on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, at the Glens Falls Hospital.

Born in Fort Edward on Oct. 6, 1940, she was the daughter of David and Ann (Niemiec) Collier.

Ann was a graduate of Fort Edward High School Class of 1958.

Janet Ruth Stout Sheridan
Janet Ruth (Stout) Sheridan

Argyle - Janet Ruth (Stout) Sheridan of Argyle, N.Y., went peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Aug. 15, 2008, at the age of 88 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Janet was born on Oct. 12, 1919, in Wakaw, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Ethel (Jolly) and Ray Stout. Janet moved from Canada to Argyle, N.Y., with her parents and siblings as a young girl. She attended elementary school in the one-room Hook School and later graduated from Greenwich high school. She worked in Glens Falls where she met her future husband, David S. Sheridan, and they were married on Feb. 18, 1945, in Palm Beach, Fla.

Verna Ann Kampa
Saratoga Springs - Verna Ann Kampa, 89, a resident of the Home of the Good Shepherd, Church Street, Saratoga Springs, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Saratoga Hospital.

Born on Jan. 28, 1919 in Arcadia, Wis., she was the last surviving child of Phillip and Victoria (Rumpel) Sobotta.

She and her husband Clifford owned and operated the Club Midway Supper Club in Independence, Wis., for many years. After the business was sold, she worked as a waitress at the club.

Timothy 'Tim' Corrigan
Ellicott City, Md., and Glens Falls - Timothy "Tim" Corrigan of Ellicott City, Md., passed away Friday, Aug. 16, 2008, after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was 47.

Born July 29, 1961 in Glens Falls, he was the son of Betty Lou Washburn and Patrick Corrigan.

Tim grew up on North Street in Hudson Falls. He was a 1979 graduate of Hudson Falls Central School and a 1983 graduate of SUNY Oswego with a B.S. in computer science.

Harvey C. Tifft
HUDSON FALLS - Harvey C. Tifft, 84, of Hudson Falls, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, went into the arms of the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at his son, Jack and Mary Jane Tifft's home, after a long illness.

Friends may call on Monday, Aug. 18, 2008, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Carleton Funeral Home, Inc., 68 Main St. in Hudson Falls. Hershel-Argyle Lodge No. 508 Free and Accepted Masons will meet at 3 p.m. during the calling hours on Monday.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. at the Truthville Baptist Church in Truthville, with the Rev. Kevin Gebo, pastor, officiating.
